For over ten days now the polity has been suffused with the verbiage of the letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Jonathan. The latter has been under pressure to respond to the issues Obasanjo raised in his letter. And for a while, it seemed the silence from the presidency implied consent, or that the President was too dazed by the vitriolic content of the letter to respond. But yesterday, the President broke his worrisome silence, when he called a press conference and read out a lengthy reply to the Ota farmer. To be fair to President Jonathan, he tried to clear the fog on some of the issues, but not without throwing some jabs here and there at the former president. I captured some, yes, some of the details in the response of the President. He started like this: “His Excellency Chief Olusegun Okikiola Matthew Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You must have wondered if I did not know what to reply you after you published what has become your latest act of infamy, in the name of a letter titled “Before it is Too Late” which you wrote to me. Sir, I must confess that your letter took me unawares. As a respected Statesman, I did not expect this unbecoming means of communicating with me, if the essence was not to play to the gallery. The other confession I must make is that some of the issues and accusations you made against me, were complete news to me. I have long set up committees to investigate the accusations and the reports are already coming in. Before I deal on the specifics of your letter, permit me to say that, Sir, you must purge yourself of the overflowing messianic complex you have always operated in. Yes, I had said that after God and my parents, you are the next most important person in my life. But that did not mean you are my God or the provider of my oxygen. When goats are sold, the owner releases the rope. But you have chosen to hold on to the rope most tenaciously. That is the problem. Indeed, we would have ignored you completely after your dear daughter, Dr Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, helped to put most of the issue in the right political perspectives in her own letter to you. But we needed to do this for the records. I am somewhat disappointed that you are lamenting my performance in government. His Excellency, I am sure we would have moved at a faster pace if the right foundation was laid while you were in charge. As for the issue of whether or not I will seek re-election in 2015, I am bemused that you are making a huge drama out of this even when you know I am constitutionally permitted to seek re-election. I cannot remember the incidents of my said promise not to seek re-election. But even if I did sir, am I not entitled to change of mind on any issue depending on the currency of information available to me? I do not expect you to be basing your conclusions, at your level, on the so-called fantasy of Body language. And pray, were we not all witnesses of how you tried to manipulate the National Assembly to offer you the illegal third term chance? Senator Ken Nnamani is still alive. It is pure mischief powered by uncharitable inclinations to accuse me of “double game’ in the support of gubernatorial candidates in some states. I personally participated in the campaigns of all our candidates. If they lost the elections, I cannot be blamed for that, as I am resolved to distance myself from manipulating electoral outcomes as it used to be in the past… you know what I mean You made me look like the prince of corruption because of the ancient malaise of crude oil theft. Sir, it did not start with me. I have tried to combat it. There are many committees and task forces in place to check the roguery. Besides, it is even exaggerated under me. Did you not hear that the garrulous CBN governor, who raised the false alarm of missing $49.8 Billion has eaten the humble pie by recanting? But sir, with all sense of modesty, this does not compare with the degree of sleaze that characterized the PTDF scam between you and your former Vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We did not forget. We have reformed the EFCC to be an indiscriminate fierce attack dog, unlike when it was reduced to a weapon against enemies. As for the crisis in the PDP, we know of supposed elders who have been fraternizing with the renegade governors, the reason they were recalcitrant and irreconciliable. You can only force a horse to the river, you cannot force it to drink water. These renegade governors simply refused to drink water at the bank of reconciliation. I am a Knight of the Anglican Church. I have never plotted to shed blood for any reason. No I have never. Therefore, the phantom alarm of training of killers are nothing but a tale from the mountains. Only the naïve are taken in by them. God will judge such accusers harshly. By the Grace of Almighty God, I will finish well and strong. My good people of Nigeria are behind me, contrary to what you may wish to think. I have told the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) to ensure that they announce national fasting of forty days and forty nights to thwart all the plans of the enemies of Nigeria, no matter who they are. That they must declare that no weapon fashioned against Nigeria, be it from Boko Haram or whoever, will prosper. Finally, let me assure you that the transformation agenda of my government has been attracting international investors and in no time, the entire nation will soon become one large construction and industrial yard. We shall all be witnesses. Please accept my best assurances of …” Just as the President finished reading the letter to pressmen, his spokesman, Dr Rueben Abati , looking agitated with creases on his forehead, stepped out to co-ordinate the question and answer session, as over a dozen hands were already up, desirous to fire follow-up questions at Mr President. Abati was just announcing the modality of the question and answer session, when the loud blast of a heavy duty truck woke me from my deep sleep, as my house is by the roadside. As I sprung up, I was looking for President Jonathan, asking breathlessly, “where is he, where is the president?”, and my children began to ask if I was alright. It was only then I realized I have been dreaming. -NLM Change Is Inevitable!!! *********************************************** Help Nigerian Police With Information Any Time You Suspect Strange Persons And Movement In Your Areas. China mourned South African anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela on Friday, but took to the Internet to ask awkward questions about their own human rights leaders, many of whom are in jail or endure frequent harassment by the government. Chinese President Xi Jinping praised Mandela for "leading the South African people through arduous struggles to the anti-apartheid victory," in a condolence message to South African President Jacob Zuma. "The Chinese people will always remember Mr Mandela's extraordinary contributions to the development of China-South Africa ties and the cause of human progress," Xi said, in comments carried by Xinhua, the official news agency. Meanwhile, Al Jazeera's Rob McBride, reporting from Beijing, reported that some of the tributes from ordinary Chinese citizens turned into veiled criticism against the Chinese leadership. McBride said that online posters made indirect reference to Chinese Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, who has been jailed by the Chinese government. "We are remembering a person who respected and struggled for human rights, freedom and equality, but China's Mandela, who has done exactly the same kind of things, has been jailed," wrote one user in a widely shared post, making an apparent reference to Liu, whose name is blocked on Weibo, the country's equivalent of Twitter. "It's totally ironic." Another wrote, "If Mandela had been Chinese, he'd have been beaten to death." source http://live.aljazeera.com/Event/Nelson_Mandela_7/98906057 |
Was Nelson Mandela a criminal for being imprisoned for 27 years? Answer is capital no!!!. Not all what is in a constitution of a country at particular time is right. Mandela was once criminalised by his country constitution but later vindicated, so if you are a Human right Activist now, surelly you will be prosecuted, hated, disrespected and harassed but later vindicted . When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace |

stevedure: It won't work u say? Maybe u shul make more reserches and gather ur facts right b4 comin on social media 2 comment, i mean no offence! Now, do u knw why River state university is not partaking in the strike? Cos Gov. Amaechi dealt with d ASUU in dat skul. He layed off the members who refused 2 work, employed new ones. I knw u would say the case in court dat's if u're aware of it, now let me tell u dat it's been 2yrs now and i dnt see it been resolved in court within anoda 2yrs time, isn't 4yrs enof time 2 graduate a set of students 4rm yr1? If a governor with limited powers and resources can do it den do not under-estimate d president of a nation! The commander in chief of Army, Navy, Airforce, Police etc, am sure ASUU members can't out-number those people, they will go to court after they are sacked, the court will use 8yrs to investigate, den wen they(ASUU) finally win d case, by den i must have graduated same as all undergraduates now, den most of the lecturers must have attain their retirement ages, they will be retired n paid gratuity, who loose? If u have frnds or relatives who are lecturers better advice them now!GEJ theory, myopic view |
excelkoms: prolong the strike you say? Is d strike not already overdue? Dis ASUU ppl dnt really care about d students dey claim to be fighting for. Meanwhile let me remind you dat RSUST chapter of ASUU have been on strike for close to 2years now but normal academic activities have been taking place dia. What R/state govt did was to lay off all d striking lecturers dt refused to resume n employ new ppl. Though, d case is in court but, trust me, its a case dt may linger for decades, a period during wc a handful of dia members must hav passed on. ASUU shud jst put an end to dis dia madness!!!forget about that, that ur theory is not feaseble under this situation, i remeber when Akala sacked all oyo state teachers and later begged. I just see this one as joke and commedy |
LogoDWhiz: Nice thread.. Thanks for this.. I just registered for CBT at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State... I pray for success this year.. Any info would be gladly appreciated.. Thanks.. #peacei dont think u need any special info xcept what is above, read ur book wella and follow instructions because CBTexam is not that easy as people think, just pray u have luck to meet what u have read and understood |
Skykid1208: 9ice threadu cant do it by yourself because of access code, just go to nearby cafe to register, u just have to choose mode of ur exam |
Aminat508: I Luv Cbt, it jst dat it depends on the ICT centers, did mine in Esa-oke, Osunstate, i mke my result nd i was given an extra 20marks 2 wks after i had printed my 1st result..Xra 20 what? Hope u got xra 40 marks in post utme too** lol lucky girl |
1313: If the federal government is sincere in their promise to ASUU, why can't they sign that agreement? Verbal agreement in this country is a deceptive strategy to push this issue aside. Why give them ultimatum when it comes to making your agreement formal and binding? I trust ASUU. Let's wait and see how the drama unfolds.im also watching in 3D |
our president lack what it takes to be a leader, this is just the beginning of war, season one has just finished after 5 months +, season has jus begun, , my president has been advised finally to use force by those who call the shot and control my puppet ruler. im really enjoying the strike ooooo |
This is a nice thread, atleast it will help up coming jambites that have phobia for CBT, I almost made mistake of paper and pencil this year, natural im computer literate but was with idea that nothing comes perfect at first in nigeria therefore i was desperate for pencil and paper exam b4 i was convinced to opt for CBT because of lack of centres. i was then placed to UI. My fear was later confirmed when i was scheduled to sit for my exam on last saturday of the month of which was environmental day. i had to leave my own town as earlly as possible and i got to OJO around 6:55am, i have to treck from ojo to UI because YES O people have blocked the road. On getting to UI, i was told to wait somewhere because i was already late. After hours of checking in to CBT centre hall, 45 munites on the exam, like 5 computers tripped off including mine. After like 20 munites, the fault was rectified and i was able to finish on time. i scored wella which later earned me law at UI. THANKS MY LORD |
I think you have improved a little on your grammar and errors but surelly your school is a little prison break |
jj9ice: Yeah, i still thank God for precious life and relations im blessed with, i finished 2003 and cleared my result at once, i did jamb about 6times and DE form about four times, in all my jamb i didnt score less than 240 and out this ten years, unilorin took 5 solid years b4 i run comot, uniabuja 2, *ABU 1, UI 1 but im still with ui with this year jamb going for law with 287 in jamb and 75% in post utme which i believe God will surely do this year, but within 10 year i did NCE which is 3years studied ENG and IJMB@iloirin getting 13points out 16pionts for years. just to show my brother and sister that winner never quit. Mickchillz: I swear. Ve been waitin for someone to come up with some facts that doesnt rhyme with the story for bein a real one even though the story is a gud one. But at the beginin he stated that the story is real, talented Keep it up. But the writter should quit he lie of it bein real cause this story aint real. Its fiction. Thanks, I have never commented since i started following this thread because all DESERT HALL scenes, i dont think that can happen anywhere in nigeria without school authority doing nothing. moreover, attitude of ur principal to all those seniors strokes of cane, i dont think that can happen anywhere in nigeria at this human right age. But truelly u get what it takes to be the next CHINUA ACHEBE, u just have to work on your lapses. |
Mickchillz: I swear. Ve been waitin for someone to come up with some facts that doesnt rhyme with the story for bein a real one even though the story is a gud one. But at the beginin he stated that the story is real, of which i disagree on. there are certain things he said that logically disagree with eachother. i think its better the story is said to be fiction than true life story. Even then it would make the writer be seen as more talented to have written a story this interesting and seemingly real out of his thoughts and imagination. Keep it up. But the writter should quit he lie of it bein real cause this story aint real. Its fiction. |
