Hello House,

I have a question please.
I haven't submitted my DS-160 form yet because i need some clarifications.

1) Can i change from B1/B2 to specifically B2 on the form(I have paid visa processing fee at GTB and it was written B1/B2)?
2) My US Contact is in Texas and i intend to put up with a Friend's sister in Maryland/Virginia. Must both addresses for US contact as well as where i will be staying correspond? Is it safer to input just one address?

Please help.

Thank you.

Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore $11,752

Hello,
Which of the JHH is this as i have their correspondence with an estimated quote of $40,000 for VD and 70,000 for CS as at today?
Could you kindly send their contact please and this estimate is it for a non- discounted normal delivery(self-pay)?
Thanks.

Hello.
Was your appointment chosen for Lagos or Abuja Consulate? It seems one can get an earlier date in Abuja.

Strted typing again for wat seemed like eternity
Vo- I'm gonna approve ur visa cos u were bin honest n straightforward abt your intentions althou d amount u paid previously was quite low cos d average fee shld b abt 18k but u guys paid abt half of dat so I'm gonna let it pass and since now u r willing to pay more than previous fee,i like dat n will consider that althou i will advice u look for another hospital cos this particular one has bin flagged for giving discount dey claim bck frm d government so to avoid issues with renewal later please look for another facility n try to pay above d 12k u quoted. Gave us d white paper n said thank you
Us-thank you n almost ran out sef

Nothing was checked at all...

We qualified for Dropbox but decided to just book for interview since most dropbox applictions hv bin ending up with 221g so I guess dats one of d reason why she said we were upfront n straightforwd abt our intentions..dont know for sure but guessing that counted n above all it was just God's favour cos there were abt mayb 5 white paper n huge stack of blue on d table.

Congratulations dear.

I think you can apply anytime though they usually say 6months. People have reapplied after refuser even when its less than 6montha. I reapplied two weeks after a refusal. I choose the option 1 for the previously refused wthin 6 months and i got a date. Infact i was even able to change the date later myself and got a date the following week. Meaning i was able to schedule another interview 3 weeks after my previous denial. If you feel you have a strong reason to reapply, by all means pls do immediatly

Thanks for responding.
God bless.

I believe It's ok reapply anytime after refusal as long as option 1 (previously refused) is chosen. But no appointments dates are up for that category at the moment and choosing option 2 will be misrepresentation. Prayer is they open up dates for this category soonest.

Thanks for your response.
I appreciate.

Lolz! I wouldn’t joke with that. That’s the way it is, at least for now....

I had to check the slip I was given again.
It stated, “I can reapply at anytime(no time frame stated)”, but should be able to demonstrate my circumstances have changed and be able to present information that wasn’t presented in my previous application.

Thanks for responding.

7k discounted or undiscounted.is it just hospital or every asides Dr
Used it in 2014, $3959 VD, epidural 1350, pediatrician around $600, other labs and tests around 1k den Dr $2400 resulting to around 9k yet I was refused.. I only noticed a discount of $2+ wch I don’t know if dts d reason cos I kept asking d VO he said nothing
I went wt memorial HErman for the interview too cos I know it’s not common though I cldnt get d new correspondence so I used d old one

Hi,
$7,000 is discounted but from Memorial Hermann Medical Center. Other MH hospital facilities in other locations are approximately $1,000 cheaper.
Hospital-$7,000
Obstetrician-$2,500
Anesthesia-$2,000
Paediatrician-$1,000
Lab-$150
Total-$12,650

This is price for a Caesarean section.

My dear, I really can’t say what their reasons for refusal are but we will keep trying and be hopeful.

You should get a new correspondence. Someone here has recently gotten a correspondence from them.

I wish you exceeding grace.

Update: I got my passport today with the visa granted. Thank y’all for the encouragement. God bless you.

Finally, congratulations dear.

I have gone through your posts but need a few clarifications:
1) is this your first time going to the US for childbirth? If no, how much was your last bill and what hospital did you use?
2) what’s your current medical budget for this delivery ( is it $11,000 or $15,000)?

My husband and I have decided that I use other hospitals outside Texas in order to get a non discounted bill. I contacted Memorial Herman in Texas previously . My entire medical bill would be about $12,000.
( Hospital bill about $7,000 discounted).
Would you advice I use them or rather present two correspondences( one with $12,000 and another with $15,000?) and then explain my reasons for presenting both?

Dear Nairalanders, please I need your advice.

Okay

Good morning,
Please can you kinda send a copy of the itemized bill to me too?
I applied for my visa renewal last week via Dropbox and I haven't received any feedback since them.
I want to start getting ready with necessary documents should they ask me to schedule an interview.
I have some print out documents from J.H Stroger but I don't know whether those suffice as itemized billing or not; so I can contact them for the right documents.
I will appreciate your response please.
Thanks.

I have been on the phone with a few hospital reps over the last couple of days and one thing they emphasized was that everyone has to be treated fairly and on that note if you are self pay, you are entitled to a certain percentage of discount.
I told them I wasn’t interested in the discounted package and they said it is standard procedure for them and that’s what keeps them at a competitive edge.
At this stage, I’m running out of ideas as to decide on what step to take next.

Please who knows of any hospital in Houston that offers a non-discounted package?
Help a sister, thanks.

Congratulations on the success of your interview.

Oakbend refused to send my itemized bill. when i inquired from them why, i was told it has been sent with the Zero Balance as Hard copy before i left the US in march 2017. I got the zero balance but i did not get any itemized bill. I am beginning to think that Oakbend Medical Center is doing something shady. I also request from Julie Medina (Oakbend Accounting officer) to send me a soft copy, she said she has sent it to an email address. only to find out that the email Address is not even mine or DW and she is sounding like it cannot be sent again. So please what can I do and also what does the itemized bill look like. Can some one share with me what an Itemized bill looks like. lydia.fregene@gmail.com. Thank you

Hi,
Julie said same thing to me but I hesitated.
She eventually sent the soft copies to me within an hour as an encrypted message using Baracuda.
Check your email, I will forward mine to you.

So I went for my 221G interview today... .

Brief history : I got my 1st Visa in 2014 and I declared it was for birthing during the interview, I gave birth In 2015 and renewed my visa via dropbox in 2016. I had my 2nd baby in 2017 and also went on vacation in 2018.

Fast forward to Dec 2018, we applied for dropbox but we got the letter to schedule a follow up appointment in Jan after 5weeks. .. We got Feb 27th for the interview date. So many people were at the embassy for 221G interview.

Got to our turn
Me and DH: good morning
VO: how many kids did you have in the US?
Me: 2
VO: can I see your payment receipt
Me: hands over the well arranged receipts per birth itemised bill from both hosp and doctor (I used Maryland for both delivery, same hosp and doctor and paid about 11k dollars per birth)
VO: what are you going to do in the US?
Me: vacation
VO: how long?
Me: 3 weeks
VO: where are you going to and do you have someone there?
Me: Maryland and yes, my uncle
VO: wat do you do
Me and DH: blah blah blah
VO starts to detach pur old passports from the bundle and I knew at that point that she was going to give us.
VO hands over the white paper and told us to pick up our passports in 3days.

Am so relieved and happy .

What I heard from other people's interview is that itemised bill is a must have and they frown at huge discount. Heard a VO telling a pregnant lady that the discount she got for her previous birth was too much and she denied her.
Another man was denied cos he didn't come with his wife's itemised bill instead he came with a letter saying she's not owing.
I also noticed the VO was checking something on the wall in her cubicle : as if they have price list of how much hospital bills shld be per state.
I wish other people going for interview good luck oh

Congratulations dear.
I can’t agree less with the ending paragraphs.

Good day mama
Please mamas what if your itemized bills has discount on it

Hello.
According to Jayfierce and others, it’s been advised we stay away from discounts.
However, if your previous itemized bills have discount on it, I don’t know if you can do much about it( Mine showed a ridiculous discount and I presented it same way). You can call them up and appeal to them to personalize the bill if possible by stating exactly what you paid for without adjustments ( can’t say if this is possible, but you can give it a try).

Dear Mamas please help poster out.

Update; i still haven’t been contacted by the Embassy. Pls what can i do about the situation?

I had my interview on the 11th of February and haven’t been contacted till today.
However, you can check your status online through their website by inputting your interview location, DS-160 number!(which was what I did)
Also, it is stated on the white sheet, the approximate number of days(about 60 days or so)you should wait for before reaching out to them.
That’s if you don’t get to hear from them.

Hello Mommas , hope everyone is doing fine. My trip went on quite smoothly - came in through JFK from Lagos with airfrance . Then took Delta flight to Elpaso through Atlanta, it was quite a tirey journey but glad I went through JFK .
My visa had expired but I dint do Dropbox as I saw from this thread that most people got called for interview so I quietly donated myself for a fresh interview without dropbox to save time and stories .
Using Doctoresparati letter (same I used in 2015 when I had my son) I applied with my sister (since am going with my son and will need help) but she was rejected. So I was scarred to apply for my mum cos of someones experience here as well.
My mum's visa was approved no much question only asked why she was going , my visa page, how many kids and grandkids she had.
When we got to JFK, I showed the officers my son America passport and she asked I join the citizen line and go ahead to do the self machine stuff. I stayed on the line for five mins and the officer asked me only one question - how long are you here for and I told him 3months and he stamped me and said have a nice stay . That was it , no agriculture though I had few food items and had a little below $10k as I dint want to waste time declaring.
I bless God for His favor cos we were treated like we just came back to our country. No hassles , no questions , nothing .
Am in Elpaso now in a very comfy accomodation I secured through airbnb -
Sorry for my long writeup. I wish everyone going for interview and those who have gotten visa a safe trip and safe delivery for all of us. May God grant us favor and above all Wisdom in making any decision.

I thank God for grace and wish you a safe delivery.
Could you share your medical budget for this delivery?
Thanks.

The state doesn't matter except in the area of cost. If you can avoid discounts it will help a lot with your next application. You can tell the hospital to give you the price without any discounts.

Why was hubby denied? Did he apply to go with you on your previous trip?

Okay, thanks.
No he didn’t.
I was at school in the UK then and had my visa already (applied in London).
He applied to go for a Conference and was given the generic blue paper.

I am hopeful that you get the Visa at the next try. You need a different hospital and one with a higher amount and not under their radar.

Also you shouldn't use your American address when filling those documents except for mail delivery. It makes the Visa Officers believe that you used public funds. This has been discussed extensively on this thread.

Goodluck.

Amen.
Thank you for your in-depth analysis and bringing this to my knowledge.
I was oblivious of this( the address).

I am currently searching for other hospitals.
Is it safe to use a hospital in the same state( Like Memorial Hermann), as I have made some prepayments to my gynecologist who consults with this hospital?

Secondly, would it be advisable to apply with my DH( He has a fair travel history because the nature of his job doesn’t afford him time to and hasn’t been to the US before as he was denied )?

Thanks again, I appreciate.

There have been several patients approved for Visa in El Paso (doctoresparati.com) that have requested to pay more than the minimum amount. Even though the Embassy can easily call the hospital to verify if any hospital is using govt funds or not, they choose not to inform themselves. In any case, $18,000 seems to be the number they are looking for.

Oh, okay.
Thank you for your response.
It seems bill presented for future birth or paid for past delivery was low, wow!
