Hotels.ng partners others to provide self- isolation centres for Nigerians with Coronavirus. Nigerian hotel booking service, Hotels.ng in collaboration with 10 other hotels in the country will be providing self-isolation centres for Nigerians infected with the Coronavirus. Mark Essien, founder of the agency made this known via his Twitter handle. According to the founder, the hotels are designed to make available adequate self- isolation protocols, full room-service and easy contact to doctors. Essien also stated that the rooms are generously discounted, so the cost is modest. Essien also called on people showing symptoms of the virus or were already diagnosed with the virus to book the hotels in case they wanted to self-isolate, and not want to spread it to their loved ones. Essien also said that the hotels were available for the two-week window that the NCDC approved for self-quarantine and prospective clients who needed these centres could contact him via direct message on his social media handles. Hotel.ng’s latest offering comes in the light of outcry from Nigerians over the terrible state of coronavirus isolation centres in the country. Apart from the fact that there are few centres available, the state of those centres is awful. Soothing is the fact that the Nigerian senate voted N620 million for approval to set up isolation centres, to be managed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control. Currently, as reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the total confirmed cases stands at 46.

The government of Kosovo has collapsed after a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Albin Kurti was backed by a majority of MPs. The vote was brought by a junior coalition partner angered by Mr Kurti's approach to tackling the coronavirus outbreak. It comes only two months after the government was sworn in. It is not clear how the political impasse will be resolved as elections cannot be held because of the pandemic. Doctors have warned that without clear direction, the disease could overwhelm Kosovo's underfunded health system. The Balkan country has at least 70 confirmed cases and one death from Covid-19 - the disease caused by the coronavirus. Correspondents say the political crisis has angered citizens who want the country's leaders to focus on measures combating the spread of the virus. With street protests banned because of a lockdown, residents in the capital Pristina have been banging pots and pans from their balconies to vent their frustration at the squabbling. One protester who managed to circumvent security outside parliament on Wednesday raised a banned at the entrance that read: "The most dangerous pandemic in Kosovo is politics. Shame!" The vote of no confidence was initiated by the junior partner in Mr Kurti's coalition, the centre- right LDK (Democratic League) party. The LDK has been at loggerheads with Mr Kurti for several weeks but the final straw came when the prime minister sacked LDK minister Agim Veliu. Mr Veliu had supported calls by President Hashim Thaci for a state of emergency to combat the coronavirus. Mr Kurti insisted that such a move was not justified. More than 80 MPs in the 120-member assembly backed the vote after nearly 12 hours of debate. Analysts say it is unlikely that Mr Kurti's party will try to form a new government. Last October's general election was the fourth since Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Serbia does not recognise the country and, with Russian support, has blocked it from becoming a member of the UN and other international bodies.

time at Emirates Stadium.
Cesc Fabregas has revealed why he left Arsenal
nine years ago, admitting to crying after defeats
while naming Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri
as the only players on his level "mentally and
technically" at the time.
Arsene Wenger managed to snap up Fabregas as
a youngster from Barcelona's famed La Masia
academy in 2003, and he became the youngest
player to appear for the first team in the club's
history a month after his arrival in north London.
The ex- Spain international went on to feature
in 303 games across all competitions for the
Gunners, becoming a favourite among supporters
for his exceptional passing range, fierce passion
and combative style in the middle of the park.

He was, however, unable to inspire tangible
success in the form of trophies, with a solitary
FA Cup triumph the only piece of major
silverware he picked up during his nine-year stay
at Arsenal.
Fabregas ended up returning to Barcelona in
2011, and later made his way back to the
Premier League with Chelsea before moving to
France , where he currently plies his trade with
Monaco.
The 32-year-old has now opened up on his
decision to walk away from Emirates Stadium,
insisting he started to feel "lonely" at a time
when Arsenal were no longer competing with the
elite on domestic or European fronts.
"I was the captain, I always felt so much
pressure on myself," Fabregas told Arseblog . "I
had to lead this team to win something. I gave
everything. Sometimes, I used to go home after
we lost and I used to cry.
"I used to suffer, I used to spend sleepless
nights suffering. And then you lose a game,
you're in the bus like this, destroyed, and then
you hear some players laughing, thinking about
where they will be going out later.
"This was going on for a few years. We were
playing beautiful football and I enjoyed that side
of things but I was putting pressure on myself to
lead, to do everything and at one point I felt kind
of lonely.
"Especially in the last two or three years, I felt
Robin and Samir were the only players - it's not
an arrogant thing to say, it's how I felt at that
time - were the players who were at my level
mentally and technically.
"Many things came in my head, I have to admit I
was a bit empty, I was drained mentally,

As cases of the novel coronavirus now known as COVID-19 continue to rise worldwide, researchers have learned that older adults may be particularly susceptible to the respiratory illness, which can cause pneumonia and symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath. "The data coming out of China continues to say that the people who are at higher risk for severe disease and death are those who are older and with underlying health conditions,” Nancy Messonnier, M.D., director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said at a press briefing in early February. Preliminary estimates suggested that the virus, which then had sickened tens of thousands and resulted in hundreds of deaths, had a fatality rate of about 2 percent. Early findings from China, which pertained to the first 17 people to die in the outbreak, revealed that their median age was 75, and a study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the median age of the first 425 people infected with the virus was 59.
Underlying conditions play a role.
This is typical of coronaviruses, a family that includes the viruses behind the SARS and ongoing MERS outbreaks as well as other respiratory viruses such as the seasonal flu , says Vineet Menachery, an immunologist at the University of Texas Medical Branch who studies the effect of coronaviruses on aging immune systems. "During the original SARS outbreak, the lethality rate for the overall number of cases was 10 percent, but that lethality rate jumped to over 50 percent in people over the age of 50,” he says. “Age and your condition in life will really drive your susceptibility. You may be in your 40s, but if you have these chronic health conditions, you're going to be more susceptible, just like you see with flu.” Menachery points to two main reasons for older adults’ increased susceptibility to coronaviruses. The first: They are more likely to suffer from underlying conditions that hinder the body's ability to cope with and recover from illness, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease . The second has to do with how our immune response changes with age, the exact mechanisms of which Menachery and other researchers still are working to fully understand. His research into coronaviruses has shown that older mice, for instance, experience more inflammation early on in the course of illness, perhaps “setting the table” for lung damage that can't later be overcome. The coronavirus that became a global pandemic before mid-March, like the ones responsible for SARS and MERS, affects the part of the lungs where gas exchange — the delivery of oxygen to the bloodstream and the removal of carbon dioxide — takes place. "As you get older, your lungs are not as elastic or as resilient as when you're younger. Those kinds of things, coupled with any kind of health issue you might have, trend toward this loss of airway function and respiratory function." But this doesn't mean that turning 65 — considered the starting point of older adulthood by the CDC and other organizations — automatically puts someone in the high-risk category, Menachery points out. “Age and your condition in life will really drive your susceptibility,” he says. “You may be in your 40s, but if you have these chronic health conditions, you're going to be more susceptible, just like you see with flu.” Handwashing keeps germs away from your insides. Scientists are continuing to work to develop targeted treatments for COVID-19. In the meantime, U.S. health officials recommend that people practice preventive hygiene measures, including thorough handwashing with soap and water. Menachery also notes that the emergence of COVID-19 has overlapped with that of another potentially fatal respiratory illness, the flu. Influenza remains at elevated levels across much of the country, affecting an estimated 36 million people so far this season and resulting in at least 370,000 hospitalizations, most among those 65 and older, plus 22,000 deaths. "It's not too late to get your flu shot,” he says. “It's actually been a really bad flu year.”

2018 Asian Games into a makeshift hospital
for coronavirus patients. A state of emergency
was declared in Jakarta on Monday
In Thailand, a month-long state of emergency
which will include curfews and checkpoints
will begin on Thursday. The government has
been criticised for failing to take strong action
so far. Four people have died and nearly 900
tested positive

pandemic. On Tuesday, the death toll jumped
by 514 in a single day in Spain and other
European countries also reported sharp
increases.
Italy is the worst affected country in the world
in terms of deaths. The virus has killed almost
7,000 people there over the past month.
The UK, meanwhile, is spending its first day
under tight new restrictions. Prime Minister
Boris Johnson announced unprecedented
measures
on Monday and ordered the immediate closure
of shops selling non-essential goods.
And in the US, New York's governor has said
the federal government is not sending enough
equipment
to combat the crisis. The state has been hit
especially hard by the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has
warned that the US has the potential to
become the new epicentre of the pandemic.
In other developments, Japanese Prime
Minister Shinzo Abe said the International
Olympic Committee has agreed that the 2020
Tokyo Olympics should be postponed by a
year.
