Abeg is bolton. If Arteta know what is good for him. He should just go and gather all the reserves abeg.

Nobody who played this game deserve to see football till weekend again. Atleast there is Jorginho,Jesus, Nwanerir, skelly,Kiwior, sterling he can complete the rest with reserve and U21
Swearss...
All of them needs at least 4days rest.

Today's match was truly draining for almost everyone that started cos they ran themselves to the ground

Arteta has them doing the dark arts. Constant time wasting, fouling goalkeepers on set pieces, delaying restarts, intentionally looking to injure key players. The free flowing football marred by the disgusting dirty tactics.

Arteta and Gabriel the most dislikable personalities in that team. Tueh
All these things from my Arsenal?

We don't intentionally look to injure key players. Please which three key players have we intentionally injured?

Fouling keeper from Set pieces? That's just tactics. Dirty tactics, yes but in this Var era, if it's a foul, it would have been blown. We're just exploiting a loophole being created.

Constant time wasting ke? No oo Biko.

And as for Gabriel being the most dislikable personality, I might understand if you're a rival fan at the receiving end but for us we really love him like that cos he is someone we truly lacked before. Arsenal defenders have been known before as sissies and soft and we were often trolled for it. Well, not anymore grin

Omorr..
This draw pain me gan. E really really pain me.

We switched off at that "last moment". I don't know but I think MLS shouldn't have drifted inside. Timber wasn't doing that and that's how they capitalize to have that shot inside the box. Something dey didn't have all through the 2nd half.

Kudos to the boys, team and coaching crew. Credit to them cos this was really a display worthy of applause. So sad cos they didn't deserve the dropped points.

Raya mehnnn. Best Gk in the world!! No caps.
Ought to win the man of the match!!!

Just when we've finally got Trossard that can play that 10 and see us through till Odegaard comes, he now got a red. Ogun kee that ref.

Calafiori, what a beauty. All our attackers would be proud of that goal. Sheez!!
Him and Timber were Rock

So many positives but still tell short of the 3pts.

Mixed feelings

Coyg!!!!

I don't know why you guys scared. City are not that good especially defensively. Once you beat their press they become extremely vulnerable as their only defensive minded players are the back 4
Na this here be the big issue. It's not easy to beat their press

Last season we might have won at Etihad because Partey and Odegaard was able to beat their press quickly which the latter released Trossard. There's also a reason we played a whole lot better during the community shield

This season, there's Partey but no Odegaard to really exploit the half space in midfield (both are world class in giving and receiving in half spaces respectively).

Na wetin dey get me worried honestly cos how are we gonna create chances even when pressed.

Fingers crossed tho

Not really confident of getting something out of this game TBH. Not because of Odegaard's absence but the way our forwards have been misfiring lately.
Martinelli being the biggest culprit.
The only reason why I'm a bit skeptical is because of Odegaard because after we absorb pressure, we'll someone to transition us out of tight quarters.

But fingers crossed tho. I'll watch the game as an arsenal fan

Depends on your definition of technical sha. And going by your sample, Partey, Rice and Jorginho are all technical.

And I can't remember where I said we need another 'Odegaard' exactly. Even you yourself agreed Zinchenko should be able to do a job there even though he is not 'Odegaard'. With ESR playing there, na still same mechanic Football we will still be playing. Make una dead that talk abeg.

Funnily enough, I don't see how ESR would have replaced Odegaard in midfield. Infact, Ethan, Vieira and Zinchenko have better chance of playing that role than ESR.

This is not to say ESR is not good o but he is a totally different player from Odegaard. ESR likes to get at the end of chances while Odegaard is a creator.
Maybe you didn't watch Esr well enough before we brought in Odegaard (with all due politeness as I can say it).

The thing I believe you're missing is that you think we need to have "another Odegaard" to play that role. But No it's not. What we need is a technical quality midfielder that can play that role and play his own game and we'll be fine. And that's where Esr or Nwaneri comes in

It's like the striking department. Havertz, Trossard and Jesus are different kind of players but all of them can play that Cf comfortably to an extent without we suffering in forward position. Havertz doesn't need to play like Jesus neither does Trossard need to play like Havertz or vice versa.
Where the big issue will lie is playing someone like Rice/Partey as Cf.
Even the Dm sef, Partey, Rice and Jorginho are 3 different kinds of DM but they can all comfortably play there

If we're looking for another "Odegaard" in this team, we won't get it cos what he brings is a whoooooole lot.

In a nutshell, What the midfield is lacking presently is a technical attacking midfielder. None of Havertz, Rice or Jorginho is that and that's why we're suffered against Atalanta and it might continue like that
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Jodera: 4:07pm On Sep 21, 2024
Spy360:
To your last line my answer is no. However it does not change the fact.

We let ESR go because Nwaneri is good. Being good doesn't mean ready. Like I said, we need to ease him in. This is very critical to how a young player should start. Have you seen a primary school child who is very eloquent in debates fail when stood before a crowd of elders? It happens because their tutors didn't ease them in. It's like having sex, you do pre-intimacy first if you want to really impress
So while easing him in, our midfield will probably suffer technical quality for the main time be that?
Na that technical quality be my ish oo.

None of Havertz, Rice, Jorginho and even Merino have that technical quality of an Am

I'm just how I'm proven wrong sha, may Arteta will come up with something different that's sustainable

If the match is not that crucial like u claimed , then why is everyone complaining and lamenting about the outcome of the match like we just lost a final? 🤷‍♂️

I already mentioned it here days ago that Arteta will most likely not throw the boy on the pitch except we are having like two goals margin.

We were all here when Saliba was bought and did not get considered because Arteta felt he wasn't ready. At some point some fans felt Arteta was being unfair to him. Today Arteta's decision has been proven to be a wise one

If a coach is hesitant to throw a young player into a high intensity match like Champions league, he will definitely have his reasons which we may not agree with; but doesn't mean his reasons aren't valid.
Of course Every match that's not preseason or lowly cup will surely garner lamentations if things doesn't go as expected but there are matches in which you can try out something and there are matches in which it's wrong to do such. If ystdy was a Ko round, I wouldn't vouch for Nwaneri at all. If we can't put him now(even if it's some minutes), then When?

While I get the Saliba part but there's something missing here. When Saliba was deemed not yet ready, he purchased David Luiz and then White who were able fill-ins before Saliba was ready but it's a different scenario for Nwaneri. He sanctioned the exit of both Esr and Viera yet Nwaneri isn't deemed ready? That's my big worry here.

It's funny how he normally makes great decision when it comes to defence department but there's always a bit of skoin skoin when it comes to the attacking side

Yesterday’s match got a lot of fans emotional (maybe because of the taunt of rival fans sha ) , but like u rightly said ; It will irresponsible for Arteta to throw the young boy into a match of such nature .

I believe the boy’s time will come and he will do well in view of his talent.

That being said , it is important to state that Arteta goofed allowing Martinelli playing 90 minutes with nothing to show for it attack-wise . Arteta should also have realized by now that Havertz is ineffective as a midfielder , he just keeps ghosting on that left side of midfield . These are the issues .
I don't think it'll be irresponsible to be honest.

This guy have been playing with the first team in trainings. According to the few matches we watched him, the players have confidence in him hence they're not afraid to give him the ball. Even if it's to bring him on as a sub, it wouldn't have been bad. This is just the first UCL match so it's not as if it was even critically crucial sef.

There's a reason I wasn't talking about Odegaard's deputy for the past two seasons and that's because I believe Esr will take the slot when he's unavailable.

If Ethan is deemed too young to play ystdy game, then omorr, he's not ready at all. Maybe we were just building hope for nothing cos I'm certain if Esr is here, he would have certainly started yesterday.

If that's case then it makes the sale of Esr more baffling

Spy360:
Calm down. No sane manager will throw Nwaneri into a tough schedule in three tough teams away outside his plan. Do you want to destroy the boy's mentality? Assuming that one of those games was at home then he can try but these are away games where your fans voices won't be the loudest.

You saw how an experienced Jorginho or Sterling struggled how much more Nwaneri. He may be at the same talent level with them Jamal and Musiala but he is not there yet mentally and that will take a proper planned process.

Arteta himself admitted that all his plans for this week were scattered with those series of injuries during the international break

I also believe that Odegaard injury must be enough for Arteta to hasten that process.
I still remember your quote clearly earlier this preseason. You said something in the line of

"if ever you're looking for a reason why Esr is sold, look at Nwaneri" ...

I mean, we all watch this guy ball in preseason. We all watched how only him was the shining light when he came as sub against Spurs even when his fellow Sub veterans (Jesus and Sterling) where just looking overwhelmed.

You made that statement with the belief that he'll take Esr place(cos to you, he's potentially better than ESR), so how come is he now a player that can no longer play such a game yesterday night. It's not as if we're playing Madrid or prime Bayern in a UCL match, it's freaking Atalanta in a first match. If there's any match to play him, that's the match even if it's to come on as a sub in the 60 something minutes.

Tbh, if he can't get minutes and starts now, then, I'm sorry, he's not even ready at all.

Ask yourself, If Esr is here, would you have made this excuse?

I now see why Roland and Sod dey vex for Arteta and Edu. The options in attack is limited yet ESR, Viera and Nketiah were sold with no replacements brought in. It might come back to bite you guys.
It'll surely come back to haunt us if he doesn't have plans for Nwaneri quickly or probably Zinny.
I can't believe he sold Esr just so that Havertz or Rice will play in Odegaard's stead if Odegaard himself is unavailable.

It's sad
