Without the doubt, bride price is a cultural right in most parts of Nigeria. Marrying from some places is very easy and doesn’t require anyone breaking the bank. Most times, it affects relationship as the loud undertone is that one can’t settle with the love of their life if they are not extremely wealthy . I could remember vividly when my girl cousin was to get married she was super excited and couldn’t wait to tie up the knot with her Yoruba boo. She told her mum about the guy’s intention and the mum told her dad. Hoops the marriage plan began, I know that day as I was about stepping from my home for the college when she called and said Cyndi my fiancé will be visiting our home on Friday this week and I want you to be around. Well, let’s fast forward the whole story, the fiancé came and after plenty eating and laughing, my uncle took him to the village to meet with some village heads and family members that matters, at the end of that day he was issued a list and that list was tagged Requirements for a traditional Marriage Ceremony in Nsit Atai L.G.A. He went back to Lagos where he is based and didn’t speak with my cousin for days. Worries piled up in her heart and she burst to tears when she told me of the ordeal she went through, I asked, so why didn’t you call him cousin, she said I did, most times when he picks up he says Edidiong am busy can I call you back later and that day will roll pass he won’t call me. What bites me the most is the fact that he calls me my name and not the sweetie he used to call. I then knew something was wrong. Days rolled into weeks and here I am still wondering what might have gone wrong with my boo to be. I called his best friend Olawale who was kind enough to talk some sense into him and the following day he called me. All he said was Edidiong please I need you to board the next flight tomorrow to Lagos we have a serious issue I need us to talk about. He sent me the flight code and I prepared for Lagos. I arrived Lagos at about 12.32pm, he was already their waiting for me, he hugged him and I felt he must have missed me, but then I said to myself if he did then why the cold attitude towards me. Well, we headed for his home and I had my shower and ate something. Edidiong he said we need to talk, I said okay am all hears. He started with so much Eulogy and I said why sing my praises when you practically abandoned me and made my heart aches for days, your silence was enough to send me to my early grave. Am so sorry but I didn’t know what to do nor think, I became helpless when your family head handed me the lists to our Traditional Marriage. Oh but why didn’t you show me the list before you left for Lagos, I couldn’t bring myself to show you how angry and disappointed I was he said, Disappointed?

@AutoElectNG, I like the fact that you have been spending your time on trying to make me understand. As at the time I made my last post, I forgot you advised me to to meet a professional for the valve cover thingy. Thanks for your assistance so far. Let me seize this opportunity to thank all those who have in one way or the other contributed. No sarcastic comments ( that characterise Nairaland) so far. Impressed. |
AutoElectNG:I need you to be specific on what your position is. Is it to continue without the thermostat and change to 5W 30? If so, what are your reasons? I just don't understand this valve cover taking off. I've been reading valve cover, valve cover but nothing on how to take it off. I checked the valve cover link posted earlier but I saw was pictures and didn't understand. |
diportivo:Impressive comments. Thumbs up |
AutoElectNG:You are right. I just used Chrome and it opened. I was using Opera. Opera has too many limitations méhn. |
AutoElectNG:Thanks, but the link is dead |
afolarin206:I don't really understand this valve advert. I was expecting to see how to find the valve and remove it in other to see the oil in its compartment, not advert |
radautoworks:Ah ah! I thought you were the engine oil matters Prof. We had been waiting for your scholarly input na. |
radautoworks:Which of the decisions? The decision to run it with thermostat? If it is, I made it cos I believed the thermostat was put there for a good reason in the first place. |
AutoElectNG:I don't know where to find any valve cover inside or around the oil entrance hole. It's hard to find |
autologic:Oil content cannot be seen due to the design |
autologic:Used it for more than 2 years and my fan is direct but I opted to run it with thermostat but I was advised against it by my electro |
Here's are photos of the cover and the
|
oluwaseunla:Yes, you guessed right. The rating is 20W 50. You are a qualified Nigerian. It does not 'short oil' As for sludge, I don't know. How can I find out if there's sludge? |
AutoElectNG:I'm presently using Mobil Super 1000 20w 50 (The recommended oil is Toyota 5w 30) V6 Mileage :Can't tell cos an unscrupulous electro rolled it back to zero some years back |
diportivo:She. It's a serious matter. Waiting for her to do justice to it |
I want to change the oil for servicing of my Toyota Camry (Big Daddy) 2003 model from Mobil to the recommended Toyota oil but I was told if I did, I would be grappling with low oil pressure issue. And that the engine is old, so the recommended oil is too light to be efficient, so the Mobil I'm presently using is better. Any truth in that? |
Lionel Messi, a favourite among Barcelona fans, will not be a contender for the 2018 edition of UEFA men’s player award. The Barcelona forward, who is a three-time winner of the award, was however shortlisted for the forward of the season award. Cristiano Ronaldo, newly-signed Juventus player, Mo Salah, Liverpool forward, and Luka Modric, Real Madrid midfielder, are the three finalists. The trio was shortlisted by a jury of 80 coaches and 55 journalists. The winner of the award, alongside other categories, will be announced on August 30 during the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco. In the 2017/2018 season, Ronaldo won his fifth Champions League title with Real Madrid and finished top scorer for the sixth consecutive season. Salah, whose team reached the Champions League final only to lose to Real Madrid, scored 44 goals last season. Modric, who won the Champions League alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, was a runner-up at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, winning the Golden Ball. The UEFA award recognises the best players, irrespective of nationality, playing for a club within the territory of a UEFA member association during the past season. Players are judged on their performances in all competitions – domestic, continental and international. https://www.thecable.ng/no-mercy-messi-uefa-announces-player-year-nominees/amp

Moderators, what is left for this post to hit the front page? |
feldido:There was no need to say he's not from your place. Most of the things you said are not happening. The only correct thing you stated there is 'owing 3 months salaries ' (for state workers). Let me touch on downgrading of workers. Tell me if it's wrong to downgrade a worker who gets a job with a forged B. Sc certificate, from their present level, down to level 4 which happens to be the worker's highest genuine certificate. Forgery is a criminal offence. Those concerned ought to be arrested and prosecuted but he let them be. Any worker who was downgraded is guilty except a few cases of human error. There's a committee set up to help such people. Any more queries? |

When Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Real Madrid was announced in 2009, I – along with every other Barcelona fan – drew a sharp intake of breath. The transfer took place shortly after Barcelona’s Champions League final victory over Manchester United. Although the match ended 2-0, in a game that is commonly remembered as a stroll for Barcelona, the discerning fan will be remiss to forget the opening salve of thunderbolts that Ronaldo unleashed at Victor Valdes, Barcelona’s custodian at the time. Having scored 42 goals that season – matching Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record, despite playing as a winger – Ronaldo was making screamers into a habit. Amongst this glut of goals were several long-range scorchers – a 40-yard missile against Porto always comes to mind – so, seeing Ronaldo with room outside the box forced culés around the world to collectively hold their breath. However, Valdes and Barcelona were saved by Ronaldo’s accuracy, or lack of. The only shot that actually drew a save came from a freekick, and Valdes was fortunate that the Manchester United strikers lacked the predatory instinct to capitalize on his dismal parry. If his other shots were on target, Valdes would have no chance against the dip, swerve, velocity and venom that Ronaldo’s shots were synonymous with. Thankfully, that was not to be and Barcelona soon overwhelmed Manchester United, and Ronaldo cut a subdued presence on the fringes for the remainder of the game, along with the rest of his team. Barcelona had triumphed, but at what cost? Real Madrid, arch-rivals and political nemesis, recruited Cristiano in the following summer for a (then) world record fee, along with the services of Ricardo Kaka. Barcelona had just won the elusive and highly-coveted treble, and Madrid were forced to splash out in a bumper-summer which can only be compared to PSG’s acquisition of Neymar and Mbappe in the summer transfer window of 2017. Kaka had won the Balon d’Or in 2007, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008 – and Madrid were truly resurrecting their Galactico era. Timeless talisman of La Liga What followed ensured that Cristiano Ronaldo will be heralded as a timeless talisman of La Liga. For a decade, Ronaldo fought tooth-and-nail with Lionel Messi for the La Liga trophy, the Copa Del Rey, and the Pichichi (top scorer) award. His 44 goals led them to a rare league triumph in 2012, losing just two matches in beating a Barcelona side that racked up 91 points; a Barcelona side that many refer to as the Golden Generation. On a more personal level, Ronaldo’s presence stoked a fire that had been simmering ever since the Invincibles of Arsenal had engaged in a pizza-fight with rivals Manchester United. Domestic rivalries and derbies are commonplace in football, but nothing matched the intensity of the Clasicos during Ronaldo’s decade. Although Jose Mourinho was the primary antagonist, Ronaldo will always be remembered with seething hatred by Barcelona fans for his “Calma” celebration which silenced the Camp Nou, sparking traumatic memories of Raul’s famous finger-to-the-lip. It was an iconic moment from an icon who went on to score in six consecutive Clasico fixtures. In the end, his Clasico tally culminated in 17 goals scored, 11 of which were in the riotous cauldron of Camp Nou, amidst over 90,000 culés calling for his blood. What a man. The moment that best summed up Cristiano Ronaldo for me didn’t come on the pitch. It wasn’t a goal, celebration or haircut. It was after the warm-up to Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Bayern in 2018, when the players were headed back through the tunnel prior to kick-off. As the likes of Kroos and other Madrid players sauntered their way up the stairs, having just undergone their warmup session, Ronaldo chose the other side of the railing – empty of traffic – and sprinted up the flight of stairs like a machine. A machine. In the end, that’s the only word that can capture the essence of Ronaldo. Now, the Machine has chosen to ply his trade in the Serie A with Juventus, after winning a third consecutive Champions League with Madrid. It might be because of tax exemptions, it may be because he’s chasing the treble, it could be because of the standing ovation that his bicycle kick sparked in Turin. In all this speculation, one thing is for certain – La Liga will never be the same again. An era has come to a close. The times, they are a changin’. As a Barcelona fan, I’ll admit that there’s an element of myself that is slightly relieved to not be competing against this machine anymore. As a football fan, I am strangely distraught. Here was a man who dedicated himself to the sport in every way possible. A true physical specimen, he transformed himself into an Adonis of football as he mounted its peak. He is an example to every aspiring footballer out there. He was one half of the greatest rivalry the sport has witnessed. He defied the hands of time itself. How could I not be sad? I even had a dream wherein I met Cristiano and beseeched him to come back to La Liga, such is the subtle nature of my destitution. He won’t ever come back. They say that you only appreciate something when you lose it. The true magnitude of loss, however, won’t be felt until the season progresses, and one name is conspicuously missing from the Pichichi race. Well, Spain’s loss is Italy’s gain. All I can do is endeavour to keep an eye on the score-lines of Juventus games, for the inevitable mention of the Machine. So long, Cristiano. The Old Lady will audience your final act but, for the rest of us - we’ll always have the Champions League. http://english.alarabiya.net/en/sports/2018/07/29/Memories-of-Cristiano-Confessions-of-a-Barcelona-Fan.html |
feldido:I'm not impressed with this post. Don't say what you cannot defend. You are not the only one living in Bayelsa. Stop misleading the public. The present government in Bayelsa is out to reposition the state in the right direction. Desist from being comfortable with abnormal way of getting things done. Open your mind, acquaint yourself with the activities of the state government, have foresight, and you'll understand the government has the overall good of the state as its focus. Mind you, I'm not a politician. I'm being owed more than you (15½ months salaries between 2015 and 2017) but I'm not offended cos I prefer the betterment of the state to achieving my selfish interest. |
I'm experiencing difficulty rooting my Gionee (GN5001s) phone. I've been using kingroot. It roots till it is over 55% and it says 'please wait for the update patiently' and I keep waiting and waiting but the update doesn't show up. My network is fast and I have free 3.3gb space. What more can be done?

I bought Infinix Q8 with Android version 6.1, 4gb ram and 64 gb internal storage, configured it to browse, I even changed the network setting to 'WCDMA only' but it still shows 'E' (edge network) and can't open any web page after connecting to the Internet. I have checked all network settings and changed them to favour 3g browsing but the phone doesn't have 3g even though there's 3g network all around me. What more can be done? Or are there phones with 3g/4g setting that work with only EDGE? |

You are fortunate I saw your question. I know some cool businesses that can give you steady residual income without much stress. Infact one of them doesn't require you to stress yourself before a lot of cash starts rolling in. Though, you'll make more cash if you decide to stress yourself in the business, it is not a prerequisite for earning. Once you start the business, you have signed on wealth and signed off poverty. You only need some months to start smiling and asking yourself why didn't the opportunity come your way long before now. You can contact me |

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has replied the Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina, who had in a special feature titled: “President Muhammadu Buhari and the Descendants of Shimei’’, accused Buhari’s critics of being ‘Filthy Dreamers’. Fani-Kayode in his response to Adesina, said the Presidential Spokesman has lost his mind. The Statement reads in full: I am convinced that Femi Adesina has now finally lost his mind. In his latest essay, he compared Buhari to David. What on earth is Davidic about Buhari? David was a Spirit-filled believer and a heroic and courageous child of God, whilst Buhari is a son of perdition and a tyrannical servant of satan. Femi also said Buhari could have “cut off the heads” of his opponents, meaning he could have had them assassinated. Gosh. Poor Femi. He has just made a cardinal spiritual blunder, the consequences of which I have no doubt that he will deeply regret. I knew that he was frustrated, but I never knew he was a man of blood. I never knew that he and his leader believed in murder as a tool of governance. God will see to it that they pay a terrible price for even thinking of taking the life of their detractors and political enemies both in this life and in the next. The truth is that God alone gives and takes life and whether they like it or not He guards His own jealously. No-one is intimidated by Femi’s implicit threat. He ought to be mindful of the fact that whilst he and his associated are planning to take someone elses precious life they may end up losing your own. Examples of that are replete in the Holy Bible. Abishai and David’s other strong men were courageous and righteous men who undertook a noble cause, shed the blood of evil men and fought against tyranny. That is not the case with Buhari’s cabal. They are the opposite. They are the darkness that seeks the darkness. They prey on the weak, they destroy the young and they slay the old, the vulnerable and the weary. Buhari has no Abishai’s around him. He has no Joab’s and no Prophet Samuel’s either. He only has Absalom’s, Haman’s, Judas’, Dalila’s and Ahitophel’s. That is the tragedy and the weakness of his Presidency. That, plus the fact that he does not fear God and he does not respect the rights of the Nigerian people. Finally Femi wrote “when Buhari returns home some people will bury their heads in shame”. He is wrong. The truth is that when Buhari returns home, some people will prop him up and pretend that he is well enough to be President, until he falls sick and goes back abroad again. It is called “corspsocracy”, and it is defined as the rulership of the living by the dead. Instead of telling us that his principal can kill us all, Femi should consider his many failings and fluctuating health, and advise him to resign honourably. That is what a real believer and a true man of honor would counsel his erring and ailing boss to do, and not try to intimidate those of us that are in opposition with blatant, vulgar, and bullish threats of assassination. The path of blood is a dark and unpredictable one. I advise Femi not to take it. http://www.post-nigeria.com/shocking-sick-president-muhammadu-buhari-disgraced-before-the-entire-world-declared-a-servant-of-satan-and-a-man-of-blood/ |
