The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know.

I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?”

Some people are like Leaves on a Tree. When the wind blows they move, always unstable. Season changes they wither and die off. Most people in the world are only there to take from the Tree never adding value.

Some people are like a Branch on a Tree, they make you think they are good friends - strong and reliable but when you step on them they break off and leave you high and dry.

But these are very rare, the Roots, if you find some people who are like the Roots of a tree then you are truly blessed cos they are not going anywhere. They are not worried about being seen, they are not worried about what people will say or about what they doing for you.

You can have a million branches but without the Roots, the Tree can't live. So if you have some Roots in your life hold on to them and the rest you LET THEM GO.

After reading these, I scrolled through my contact list and differentiated the Roots from the Leaves and the Branches.

I also realised that I couldn't remember the last time I was single. I always had a boyfriend at every point in time, someone to cling onto, which I didn't need. They were always there to TAKE, TAKE, TAKE never giving back. They take your Money, waste your Time, your Energy and use your Body.

I said NO MORE... I broke up with my boyfriend and concentrated of fixing Me because two bad yokes make a bad Omelette, One bad egg and one good egg still makes a smelly Omelette.

Society makes us think that we are cursed if we are Single, that a girl has to be married at a particular age or you are 'Old Goods'. We need to learn the 'Act of Singleness' cos no matter how many people you date and you haven't work on yourself, then am sorry to say this but that new 'Relationship is Doomed'.

People praying 'Where is my Man?' 'Lord, Help me find my Prince Charming'... Girl, Shut the Hell Up and Wait !!! If you don't know how to be by yourself what you gonna do with somebody else?

Have you ever sat down to consider how these three things affect how you think, feel and how you are judged?

Well, I guess most haven't. So let me break it down for y'all.

An instance, I was in Paris during the Fashion Week and wore a Louis Vuitton Red gown matched with some simple Lapearl accessories and had my hair woven in a fish braid then tucked in a stylish bun. But the eye popper was the backside of my dress, while everyone else had on floral gowns and jumpsuits, Noo... Not me... I had a bare backside except for a series of beads running from one shoulder to the next. I had ladies who wanted to be me, I had guys who were eye-raping me and of course I had ladies who walked up to me wanting to exchange contacts.

I wouldn't call myself a Fashionista, I just love clothes and I love to shop a lot so I guess that makes me a Shopaholic

I know what you are thinking. What is this 'Change'?

Before I get to that, I would like to take you through Emily's Adventures...

While most of us look forward to having a bottle of wine and watching our favourite soap opera after a long working week, Emily from El Paso Texas was preparing for her own Friday night escapade in Las Vegas. And you know how the saying goes:

'What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas'.

The 32 year old has spent the last years ticking off items from her bucket list. Hitherto she has dived out of a plane, gone hiking in an African jungle, auditioned for America got talent show and lived with a tribe for a week.

Emily always felt that life was too short to have a boring- marathon lifestyle so she decided to live life outside her comfort zone. She lost her aunt to breast cancer and one statement her aunt said that changed her mindset forever;

'She wished she lived more, Travelled to Paris with the one she loved but she would always regret the things she didn't have the courage to do but that Emily should not make her mistakes and always find time for a little adventure'

This statement made Emily consider what she was doing with her life and if she was happy, and she realised she wasn't.

She took a leave of absence from her job and bought a one-way ticket to the UK and spent the past months travelling around the world and pushing her boundaries. People thought she was crazy for doing something so spontaneous and she told them

'You only live once, so might as well make it the most of it'

One of the craziest thing she has ever done was to travel to Vegas with the intentions of marrying a complete stranger. She went to a male stripper club and met this Gorgeous Greek god who captured her attention with his moves and had the most amazing emerald eyes she had ever seen. She told him what she wanted to do, he laughed and said 'I like you so why not?'

So she found a chapel and and there were around 30 people there but he didn't show up. She was embarrassed and red faced, so she looked into the crowd and asked if anyone wanted to marry her and a random guy said 'Yes'. They had to go through the process of getting it annulled within 24 hours. It wasn't consummated either.

She would say most of the things on her list were realistic while some were just dip-shit-crazy but she wouldn't have it any other way. She still travels every weekend and ticks off an item from her list. After years of this amazing adventure she can proudly visit her aunt's grave and say
'she has finally scratched her itch'

'Life is all about taking chances and doing the unimaginable'

'One day you will wake up and there won't be any more time to do the things you've always wanted. Do it now'

Most times I watch a movie I think about you, about us, our adventures and times together. About what was, what could have been and never will be. You never put in the work to allow it blossom.

Relationships are like flowers, they look soo beautiful at first sight but with time they dry up when not taken care of or nurtured, they wither and die off but when maintained they grow, produce, blossom.

This is exactly the way I felt before until he showed me he was not the right person for me, he was years older but not wiser. I wonder when he will be!

I never dated wealthy guys, they seem to be too self absorbed but you were an exception to that rule, I bet you never knew how lucky you were maybe never will.

I watched you dressed like a gentleman, invading my world only to leave it in destruction and open promises. It is such a pity you will never know what you missed until it is too late and I will not be here to run back to.....

I was just 16 and thought I could do anything but little did I know my whole life will change soon with one little decision. I had a boyfriend, who took my virginity got me pregnant and decided he was not ready to be a father. I found myself alone with no help. I did not have the courage to face my parents or my friends with the news. I was sure I would not have an abortion because I would be killing a life and did not want the guilt on my conscience.

I made a decision to go away from home and have the baby. I moved to a place with no friends or family to help with what I was going through in my life. I decided to start a new life with the little money I had saved in my account but it wasn't easy. I found new friends with the neighbours at the little apartment I stayed, ladies who helped me during my pregnancy and also who were there during my labour.

9 months and 3 weeks later I welcomed my baby boy on the 28th of September. I couldn't believe that I could create such a pure being and I made a vow to be the best I can be for my baby. I want him to know he was never a mistake but a blessing.

I love my son and am prepared to do anything for him, but I was also determined to finish my studies, because I knew it would be important for our future if I did. Taking care of my son and staying up all night working on school projects was not easy. Not to mention how we had it financially. 2 years later I graduated with first class honours and got a job in an oil firm.

And even though I now work, my salary is unfortunately not that high, so I still struggle sometimes and have a difficult time giving my child all he would need. I never buy myself anything. If I ever buy anything it is for my son. Sometimes I was depressed and frustrated and felt like my life was over until my son said:

'Mommy, when I grow up, I want to be just like you. You are the best mummy ever!'

And so it was, one day, whilst I was searching for info on how to make your own website online, that I found a really good web host that is also a small business solution. So now, apart from my regular job, I have been building my own websites in the evenings for about a year and a half, and have started to earn money from them. Not so much yet, but the money is starting to come in - slowly but surely. This has really given me a lot of hope.
