@oyb, show me post that indicates I am a GEJ apologist.

@hercules, so the elections in the SW were rigged?

Vote for the NCP candidate? Did you watch the debate he featured in? Were you around when he had a face-off with Tinubu as labour leader in the Lagos State civil service?

I do not have to vote for a candidate because "no one will hold it against me." That defeats the aim of democracy. I should vote for a candidate because I believe in him/her and what the person stands for.

I still insist that Buhari could never have won that election no matter what. Just like me, many others did not believe in him. Even his running mate had said same about him earlier.

If you believe thata the elections in the SW were not rigged, how come Buhari could not make any serious impact? Or were the elections in the SW rigged as well?

@bk.babe.97

Did you read my post where I said I did not support Jonathan because the cabal will continue to hang around him?

Obviously you are reading only portions of my posts that suit your design.

One thing you guys seem to either be ignoring or refuse to accept is that not voting for any candidate is a valid option of an eligible voter where voting is not compulsory like Nigeria.

What I see here is a group of people who are still pained at the loss of their candidates at the last elections and are not willing to get over it.

They would do and say anything to justify their support for their candidates.

If your interest in this thread were genuine, all you could have said is that nothing can be done about the cabal until the next elections when the government gets booted out but no. Since your intention is to justify your support for your candidates, you resort to insults and questioning the moral right of a voter who chosen to exercise the ineliniable right not to vote for any candidate.

If you are so concerned about this moral right, you can start your own thread about it. Let me suggest a topic for you: "Does someone who did not vote have a right to compalin after elections?"

Good luck with that (and no pun intended!)

On the issue of voting for just any candidate because he/she is a lesser evil, I am not sure that is quite right. If it did, most Ralph Nader or Ross Perot would have been American presidents!

What you are saying is that I should have voted for Comrade Ayodele Akele of NCP because he is a lesser evil that Fashola of CAN or Dosunmu of PDP.

One other point your are missing is that these cabals exits at all levels of government irrespective of the governemt in power.

Meanwhile, can we get back to the topic?

WHAT SHOULD WE DO ABOUT THESE CABALS?

Sorry about typographical errors. I have limited functionality as I am posting from my phone.

I meant:
Saying that we should vote for Ribadu for his person and not Tinubu is like saying we should for GEJ and not "OBJ".

Saying that we should vote for Ribadu for his person and not Tinubu is like saying we should for GEJ and not Tinubu. What personality does Ribadu have that qualifies him to be president? Running EFCC or represneting the Nigeria Polce as lawyer at the Oputa panel? I don't think so!

Buhari had no choice but to accept the result of the 2007 elections. He will have to accept this one too.

No matter how many times elections are run and freely to, Buhari can't win. That is ther reality.
Politics › Re: We Can't Progress With These Cabals. What should We Do About Them? by johnie(op): 7:46pm On May 11, 2011
I couldn't have voted for CPC because it is built around an individual, a man who would have problems functioning effectively in the democratic context of present day Nigeria. What Nigeria needs is not a strong man but strong institutions.

Ribadu was not an option at all. Events I hope recent events have shown his supporters that he was merely a pawn in a political chess game.

I did not support Jonathan because I knew the cabal will continue to hang around him.

I did not support Buhari because he cannot function effectively under a democratic setting.

I did not support Ribadu because he is politicallly naïve.

I did not support Shekarau because I do not know him well enough.

Katsumoto:
every Nigerian (of voting age) had the right and opportunity to vote for a candidate of their choice. Now that choice might have led to change or it might have kept the cabal you are complaining about in power.
Why conclude that I voted for any of the candidates?

What I have is a right.  Nigeria is not one of the 12 countries where voting is compulsory.

I did not vote for GEJ or your candidate
.

Why is that so hard to comprehend?

Somebody, save me from these e-almajiris who want to lynch me because I did not vote for their candidates.

Lobbyists hijack Jonathan's vacation at Obudu
By Modey Peters

May 9, 2011 02:14AM

It was meant to be a private visit, with relaxation at the top on the agenda. But the seven-day stay of President Goodluck Jonathan at the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State quickly became loaded with a busy daily schedule.

When Mr Jonathan left Abuja penultimate Friday for the resort, located high in the Obudu mountain range of Cross River State, to soothe frayed nerves after the arduous presidential election, attending to lobbyists and businessmen must have been far from his mind.

But two days into his stay on the hills, located in Obanliku local government area of the state, politicians, contractors and businesspersons desperate to gain his favour, quickly relocated to the plateau, in pursuit of the president. Thus Mr Jonathan was torn between sticking to the planned retreat with his aides and meeting with the army of visitors itching to attract his ear. All this affected his relaxation time as he had to work late into the night.

His wife, Patience, was not left out. She also kept a busy schedule as people thronged the resort to see her, partly as a way of gaining access to her husband.

Business mogul Femi Otedola was the most prominent person from the business community to hop along to what is being called Nigeria's ‘Camp David' to meet the president. Some national officers of the president's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were not left out. According to senior member of the PDP in Cross River State, they came to discuss the shape of the new government, including the composition of the new federal cabinet, zoning of key national assembly offices, among other issues.

La. Gov. Bobby Jindal releases birth certificate

The Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who was born in Baton Rouge to immigrant parents from India, has released his birth certificate.

The Republican made the move Friday, nine days after President Barack Obama released his own long-form birth certificate to further prove that he was born in the United States.

Jindal is considered by some observers as a potential candidate in the 2012 presidential race.

His office says they released the document on request, after being asked whether Jindal's eligibility to run for office would be affected by a "birthright citizenship" bill introduced by fellow Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana. It would limit automatic U.S. citizenship to children whose parents were legal residents.

Jindal's parents had green cards for permanent residency and wouldn't have been affected by the legislation.

Murdered IFP councillor had jumped ship
Feb 17, 2011 11:16 AM | By Sapa

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Imbabazane Municipality councillor killed on Wednesday evening had just jumped ship from the Inkatha Freedom Party to the National Freedom Party, the leader of the breakaway NFP said.

“Duma Mcebisi recently announced publicly that he was moving to our party. We may not rule his move as one of possible reasons why he was killed,” said NFP leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi.

She said she was extremely worried about violence perpetrated against her party members.

“Three people have already been killed in Uthukela and some were seriously injured. Two other people were attacked in Gauteng on Sunday,” she said.

NFP was formed in January after Magwaza-Msibi and other IFP leaders had a fallout with the IFP.

According to police reports, Mcebisi was shot dead in Ntabamhlophe on Wednesday evening. He was an IFP ward councillor until he crossed to the NFP.

“On Wednesday at around 6pm, Mcebisi, 32, was travelling in his vehicle in Ntabamhlophe Road in Imbabazane Municipality when he was attacked,” said Director Phindile Radebe.

Mcebisi was shot in his upper body and he died at the scene, she said.

The police recovered R5 cartridges and the Toyota Corolla believed to have been used by the gunmen.

“He (Mcebisi) was in possession of a pistol. It is believed he may have fired at the attackers to defend himself,” said Radebe.

“The political violence team is investigating. Motive is not known but we may not rule out the possibility of political violence.”

The incident took place barely three weeks after Simon Shange, an IFP councillor in eNdulinde in eShowe was found dead. He was found dead after leaving home with two men. Two men were arrested in connection with his death.

ANC candidate attacked by 'IFP mob'
Apr 11, 2011 10:16 PM | By AMUKELANI CHAUKE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANC election candidate Julia Moloi went door to door introducing herself to residents of Alexandra, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

Just before 4pm, excited about attending a live broadcast of TV programme Election Debate, she waited alongside the township's main road, 12th Avenue, for a minibus to fetch her and three other women.

Minutes later, Moloi, 53, found herself under attack.

She said yesterday: "As we waited for our transport, two groups of IFP supporters went past chanting election songs with us, in the spirit of ubuntu, as they walked from [a rally at] the Alexandra stadium to their buses, which were parked within walking distance of where we were.

"A third group, however, caught us by surprise and started hitting us with traditional Zulu weapons while swearing at us [and the ANC]."

Moloi said she and the other "old women" were defenceless during the attack.

"I could not even see how many of them there were; there were a lot of them.

"I have nine stitches to my head and I am in a lot of pain, but the woman who was admitted to hospital is in a critical condition."

The woman was discharged from Charlotte Maxeke Hospital yesterday but is still in a serious condition.

She, Moloi and the other women were rushed to the nearby Alexandra Clinic.

The ANC has condemned the attack and called on the police to act swiftly to arrest the perpetrators.

ANC national spokesman Jackson Mthembu labelled the behaviour of the IFP supporters "barbaric".

"One person is critical following this attack. Their only sin was to wear an ANC T-shirt," he said.

Bonginkosi Dlamini, spokesman for the IFP in Gauteng, apologised "unconditionally" for the attack but immediately shifted the blame to the newly formed National Freedom Party, which broke away from the IFP.

"We condemn it in the very strongest terms and we are calling on our members, and members of the Alexandra community, to come forward to work with us to apprehend the perpetrators," he said.

"We are going to be engaging with the police to bring those responsible to book. We want them to broaden their investigation."

ANC Midvaal candidate attacked
2011-05-06 22:08

Johannesburg - An ANC Midvaal ward candidate was allegedly attacked after a door-to-door campaign in the area, the party said on Friday.

African National Congress spokesperson Brian Hlongwa said Loveliness Mazibuko claimed three men attacked her while she was walking home wearing an ANC T-shirt in Daleside on Thursday

She claimed that while the men assaulted her they said: "ANC se kak, jou kaffir", said Hlongwa.

Mazibuko's upper shoulder and neck were injured. She was still in the Heidelberg Hospital on Friday night.

"All that we are praying for is free political activity, The sad thing is that tensions seem to be rising as we approach election day," Hlongwa said.

He criticised the Democratic Alliance for the way in which it removed a bust of Hendrik Verwoerd from outside the municipal offices in Meyerton on Wednesday night, saying this could contribute to the highly charged atmosphere.

The Midvaal municipality is run by the DA.

"I just hope that we don't have a repetition of this. There is life after the May 18 and people will have to co-exist."

Mazibuko would lodge a complaint with police when she was discharged from hospital, Hlongwa said.

Okay, I found a report that says that the were injured or died in the Suleja blast were insured.

The story also says that those who died were ex-corpers not serving corpers.

I close my case.

Suleja Bomb Blast: NYSC Lists Corps Members For Insurance
.Thursday, 14 April 2011 04:17 Abu Nmodu, Minna

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it has compiled the names of the eight serving corps members who were affected in last week’s Suleja bomb blast at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office for payment of insurance indemnity by the electoral body.

Also to benefit from the indemnity were two ex-corps members who lost their lives in the bomb explosion that led to the cancellation of Saturday National Assembly elections in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.

NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, Mr. Dauda Daniel Dauda, who disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Minna said that the names of the two deceased ex-corps members and the eight injured serving corps members had been forwarded to INEC for the payment.

The move, according to the coordinator, was in conformity with the position of the chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, who said at the weekend that all the victims of bomb blast of Suleja and Maiduguri would benefit from the insurance policy the commission had put in place for it staff, including the ad hoc staff recruited for the ongoing general elections.

Dauda explained that the interests of the late ex-corps members would be protected.

“We are not going to distance ex-corps members that were affected in the ongoing negotiations of insurance cover to be compensated.”

The state coordinator NYSC insisted that though there were injured corps members but none of the thirteen persons that lost their lives in the explosion were serving corps members.

Dauda described those behind the last Friday’s bomb blast as enemies of democracy who were bent on disrupting the ongoing democratic process, while maintaining that the incident was not necessarily targeted at corps members.

Politics › Re: Is The Fg Really Serious About Improving Power Supply? by johnie(op): 9:34am On May 11, 2011
Interestingly, the VP's visit and completion and commissioning of the projects was originally scheduled for last year!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nigeria: Sambo to Visit Sapele, Other Power Project Sites

Golu Timothy

30 July 2010

Abuja — The Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo is ready to commence the inspection of power project sites at Sapele, Alaoje and Olorunsogo in the first week of August 2010 to ascertain the extent of work preparatory to their completion and commissioning before the end of the year.

He disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during a continuation meeting on hydro power projects to specifically discuss the progress on Mambilla, Zungeru and Gurara phase two projects. The meeting which was in furtherance to Federal Government's resolve to improve power supply in Nigeria was held at the State House.

The vice president in his address called for the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing major dams in the country including Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba hydro power stations.

It will be recalled that the committee examined the possibility of generating 675 megawatts of electricity at Sapele, Alaoje and Oloronshogo which were to contribute to the 225 megawatts of electricity each to the national grid.

The vice president said the focus of the FG was to look into the contribution of small and medium hydro power facilities in the country. He directed that the committee working on coal potential in Nigeria be co-opted as part of the power meetings.

The meeting examined two crucial issues bordering on the formal appointment of consultants for supervision and grant of money for advance payment for the contract involving Zungeru and Gurara phase two hydro power projects to be awarded this year.

Earlier it was observed that an Extra-ministerial committee chaired by Engr. Olapade, set up on April 27 this year and comprising of members from Ministry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Power, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and three co-opted members from the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and Nigeria Electricity Energy Commission (NERC) were charged with the responsibility of examining the potentials of establishing a coal power plant.
