1.Abubakar bukola saraki 2.bolaji abdullahi.3.saidu dakin-gari 4.Abdulrashid maina. So the issue of the likes of wasiu rasheed etc are names of allah so you need the prefix of "abdul" meaning "servant"before calling them eg. Abdulrahman(servant of the merciful) and a northerner will prefer calling you "abdul" alone than rashid or wasiu. And about the issue of differences in going to mosques. Same way christians have denominations they exist in islam and again we have four school of thoughts in islam. I BEAR WITNESS THAT THERE IS NO GOD EXCEPT ALLAH AND THAT MUHAMMAD IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER
The first two people you mentioned are from Kwara State (middle belt) a buffer state between North and South. The Sarakis don't normally identify as Yorubas.

Mention any prominent Yoruba people not related to Kwara/Kogi or states close to those states bearing these names.

I concede Saidu (Saheed) and Rashid to you, though they are not common among northerners.

Wasiu is not a name of Allah. It means diligent or persevering worker.

I am not a Muslim but this is what I think make the difference. Yoruba muslims usually "yorubanize" their Islamic name in pronunciation and spelling . For instance, Mustapha becomes Tafa, Ahmed becomes Amedu, Abdul becomes Abudu and so on.

Hope this makes sense to you, Op
Thanks for your input.

My question really is that some names people bear in some regions are not borne in others.

E.g.

Masoud is a common name in Egypt. You would find it in Yoruba as Moshood.

I am yet to come across a northerner bearing the name.

Same goes for Rachid (Rasheed), Saeed (Saheed), Majeed (Mojid), , Wasiu.

If you anyone knows any prominent northerner bearing these names, list them here:

Rachid
Saeed
Waleed
Masoud
Wasiu

Similarly, if anyone knows any prominent Yoruba bearing the following names (which are common in North Africa), list them here

Abdullahi
Abubakar
Musa

Note that I said northerner. Abubakar and Abdurahman are names common to northerners and middle belters but not Yorubas.

Before you start blabbing about intellectualism and then sounding unintelligent. My maiguard is a 62yrs old Muslim scholar refered to as Malam, he has mini makaranta where he teaches other maiguard kids/teens in my locality.
Would it surprise you if a Professor at Pat Utomi's privately owned and run Pan Atlantic University says the products of government-owned universities are half baked intellectuals?

And a UNILAG professor of Law says law graduates from private universities are half baked?

Born2Breed:
Majority of Muslims reads the Quran from the original language Arabic. Unlike the Christians whose Bible are translated to several languages. Why change Yeshua to Jesu if the only Bible version I've read is in Hebrew.
What's the point here?

North Africans bear Rachida while Yorubas bear Rashida

Senegalese women bear names like

Abibatou

Absatou

Aïcha

Aïssatou

Alimatou

While Yorubas bear equivalents such as

Habibatu

Hafusatu

Haishatu

Halimotu

And their northern counterparts bear

Hafsat

Aisha

Halimat

Aminat

Does intonation and accent then make one fake and the other original?

A Spaniard or Portugese bears Francisco while a Frenchman bears Francois.

An Englishman bears Christian and a Portuguese bears Cristiano

An Englishman bears John, a Dutchman bears Johannes

Does that make any of them fake Christians or slaves?

Sanwo-Olu: Fourth Mainland Bridge Not Our Priority

Olaseni Durojaiye

Concerned with the seeming slow pace at which some critical road projects are being executed in Lagos State, the governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said the construction of Fourth Mainland Bridge would not his priority if elected.

He said this while fielding questions from respondents on radio programme recently, assuring Lagos residents of their commitment to ensure early completion of the Lagos-Badagry expressway.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his running mate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasised the need to ensure the completion of ongoing critical road projects that included the Lagos Badagry expressway.

According to him, both Badagry and Lekki-Epe expressways are so critical to the economy of Lagos, that no effort must be spared to ensure their early completion. To this end, issue of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge may be delayed.

Specifically, the governorship candidate explained that the ongoing 60-kilometre Lagos-Badagry expressway project being executed by the state government should be completed as early as possible.

He noted that the project “has two major intermodal transport schemes namely; the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the Light Rail Mass Transit with their accompanying infrastructure- 10 lanes superhighway taking off from Eric Moore interchange and traverses westward through Orile Iganmu, Alaba Oro, Mile 2, Festac, Agboju, Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko, Iyana Era, Ijanikin, Agbara, Ibereko and terminated at Badagry.

The goal is to connect Lagos with the ECOWAS countries. The initiative would no doubt, enhances the commercial and other business activities between the affected neighbouring countries.”

Besides, he acknowledged the importance of Lekki-Epe Expressway, which he said would be expanded and reconstructed, especially, from where it stopped now to the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) in Akodo.

Why work on Lagos-Badagry Expressway is slow – CCECC

The contractors handling Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the Lagos Light Rail projects, Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation, on Thursday said the recent downpour had slowdown work.

Mr Izuchukwu Obioma, an official of CCECC, said, “The major challenge we have now is the rain which has really affected our work pace.

“There are areas where we are supposed to be laying asphalt by now but we have to hold on for the rain to subside.

“What we do mainly now is to intensify piling and excavation in other areas so that when the rain subsides, we will fast-track other aspects of the job.

“I assure Nigerians that between November and December, enormous progress would have been recorded,’’ he said.

Obioma said that the Ojo Military Cantonment and the Police Station opposite also posed challenges to the road project.

“The fence of the Ojo Military Cantonment and the Police Station opposite are also meant to be demolished to create right of way, but we cannot do that until both are relocated.

“Although the military authorities have given approval for the relocation, we are waiting on the Lagos State Government to take necessary steps,’’ he said.

Obioma assured the people that the delay would not affect the 2019 conclusion date for the project.

Excavation and construction of drainages are ongoing at different segments of the road.

Some banks close to the fence of the Lagos State University like the Guarantee Trust Bank have also pulled down their structures to allow for demolition of the fence.

Some road users on the Lagos-Badagry axis have been complaining about difficulty in plying the road.

Mr Feyi Olaofe, a regular user urged the contractors to ensure quick completion of the project for succour to road users.

“The suffering on this road has lingered for too long, especially in this rainy season, and I can only urge the state government to ensure that the project ends on schedule,’’ he said.

Mr Idris Saka, another road user, commended the Lagos State Government for embarking on the project.

“I quite agree that there is discomfort due to the ongoing construction on the road but it is expected.

“I am more concerned about the comfort I will enjoy when the work concluded,’’ he said.

I still maintain that Ambode set out to achieve a lot in the area of infrastructural development.

He went at it with a lot of zeal.

Alimosho, in particular, benefitted significantly from his administration.

Aregbesola, Yayi (Sen Adeola Olamilekan) and the other APC leaders in the area all testified to this.

Even Asiwaju said:

the achievements of Ambode in office was a reflection of a Governor who is not only a thinker but a doer, and expressed satisfaction that he was delivering on the promises to the people.

He said: “Akinwunmi Ambode has reflected that clearly here today. I want to say thank you because experience is a great teacher and I am experienced. I am on the spot and I have watched things in Lagos since my tenure ended.

“I was worried hell when you (Ambode) took over, not about your credibility, character or capacity, but because however wise or smart a man is, if there is no resources to back the ideas, production would be zero, progress would be zero.

“When you (Ambode) took over, I knew you inherited a burden of debt. The debt profile of Lagos was high, I was wondering how you will reengineer and face the challenges to make progress.

“Today, I can see your report card, you have scored well, and you have shown prudency especially in the judicious use of resources of the state.

“You didn’t disappoint us. Ambode is silently achieving, meticulously planning, religiously executing and brilliantly giving results for Lagos State,” the former Lagos governor said.

Tinubu said all over Lagos, the results of good governance were being felt by the people, and wished Ambode sound health and wisdom to continue to lead the State.

The question is, what happened?

Tinubu at 65, commissions projects, says Ambode has made him proud

ON March 30, 2017 2:20 AM / IN News /

By Olasunkanmi Akoni & Monsuru Olowoopejo

lagos—National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday, poured accolades on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, over his sterling performance in the last 22 months, saying that the Governor has made him proud.

Speaking while commissioning network of roads, link bridge and health centre in Alimosho area of the State as part of activities to mark his 65th birthday,[b] Tinubu said the achievements of Ambode in office was a reflection of a Governor who is not only a thinker but a doer, and expressed satisfaction that he was delivering on the promises to the people.

Before the commssioning of projects, Moslem and Christian leaders held prayer sessions at Tinubu’s Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos residence.

The Moslem prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheik Garba Akintola Ibrahim while Bishop Olanrewaju Obembe led the Christian prayers.

In his remarks, at the commissioning, Governor Ambode described the event as a historic day in the life of the people of Alimosho and the State in general.

Governor Ambode also flagged off the construction of a network of roads within the boundaries of Lagos and Ogun States, saying that it was in honour of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as the brain behind the 21st century Lagos.

He expressed optimism that the roads which have been identified for immediate construction and rehabilitation would complete the new face of Alimosho constituency, saying that work would commence next week.

He listed the roads to include Ikola Road with Odo Obasanjo Bridge – 6.4km (from Ipaja/Command to Ilo River); Ogunseye Road – 1.75km (from Ajasa/Command to Ikola Road);Oko Filling Road – 1.5km (from AIT to Ilo River); Osenatu Ilo road – 620m (from Ibari Road to Ilo River); Amikanle road – 3.1km (from AIT to Ogunseye Road); Aina Aladi road – 1.9km (from AIT to Ilo River) and Aiyetoro Road with a bridge– 1.4km (from New Market/Ishefun Road intersection to Ilo River).

He however appealed to the affected communities to cooperate with the contractors to enable them deliver the network of roads not later than the scheduled date.

Also, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and Senator representing Lagos West, Olamilekan Adeola said it was obvious that Ambode started well and is doing well, and solicited the cooperation of the people to engender further dividends of democracy and good governance.

Gov. Ambode promises more development in sub-urban communities

ON April 2, 2018 5:26 PM / IN News /

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Monday promised that his administration would continue to make every part of the state economically viable and liveable by opening up and developing sub-urban communities.

Ambode gave the assurance at the inauguration of two bridges and 19 roads around the Lagos-Ogun boundary, in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.

The two bridges are the New Aiyetoro Bridge in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area and the New Ikola road with bridge (old Odo Obasanjo Bridge), both in Alimosho LGA.

Some of the 19 roads are Ikola Road (from Ipaja/Command to Ilo River); Ogunseye Road (from Ajasa/Command to Ikola Road); Oko Filling Road (from AIT to Ilo River) and Osenatu Ilo road (from Ibari Road to Ilo River).

Others include Amikanle Road (from AIT to Ogunseye Road); Aina Aladi road (from AIT to Ilo River) and Aiyetoro Road (from New Market/Ishefun Road intersection to Ilo River).

The construction of the roads and bridges, handled by Visible Construction Company, was flagged-off in March 2017.

Ambode said it was imperative to open up sub-urban communities to decongest the urban centres, reduce traffic congestion and create better life for the people.

“Alimosho has been a loyal constituency since Asiwaju’s administration.

“So, in return, we are giving you the dividends of democracy with these roads, so that we can connect you to the rest of Lagos.

“Just as we have connected the Itele community in Ogun State, we are trying to do the same on Epe-Ijebu-Ode Road, Ikorodu-Imota-Itokin road and it is the same thing that we are trying to do on Mile-2-Badagry and Seme road.

“It is imperative that we do these roads so that we boost economic integration with neighbouring states,” he said.
Ambode said such development would also reduce the rush to the centre and allow new families and home owners to build up in other places.

He said that the new roads would serve as alternative routes to decongest the Abeokuta Expressway and reduce travel time.

“This inauguration is historic because it was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s vision. He started it with the LASU-Iba road up to Igando and Egbe.

“My predecessor, Gov. Raji Fashola, took it up to Ipaja; all in a bid to build a new economy in this particular axis.
“So, this administration has continued from Ipaja to Ayobo to Command and the bridge constructed in Aboru to link Abesan.

“Today, we are inaugurating a total distance of 27.4 km of roads with two bridges which we completed in one year. So, this inauguration is very significant.

“These roads are alternative routes to decongest the Abeokuta Expressway. You can take these alternative routes and go all the way to Ipaja up to Badagry.

“This was not done with my money. It is your tax money that we have used to provide and improve infrastructure and the economy of this constituency,” he said.

The governor promised to dredge the Ilo River and construct more roads in Alimosho – Adekoya Road, Suberu-Oje Road, Makinde Road, old Ota Road Ishefun and Ijon Road.

“We would also connect it with a jetty so you can take a boat ride between this area and Marina in 20 minutes,” he said.

Ambode urged residents to continue to perform their civic responsibilities by paying their taxes, saying that the government would give them more value than the taxes paid.

He also told the residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“My message is that I want our people to take voters registration seriously.

“It is your civic right, it is the only thing you can use to lend your voice to government,” he said.

Also speaking, Sen. Solomom Olamilekan, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, said that Alimosho LGA was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Ambode led-administration with the construction of the roads.
“Alimosho residents have come out en masse to welcome Gov. Ambode for this Easter gift — 19 roads and two bridges — in a single LGA. One of them is the longest bridge in the state after the Third Mainland Bridge.

“Before the construction of these bridges and roads, residents were moving out due to the deplorable state of the roads, but now the population in the area has doubled.
“This means that Alimosho, with its large population, is solidly declaring its support for you to seek a second term in the 2019 election,” he said.

Appreciating the governor on behalf of the communities, Mr Abiodun Coker, Chairman, Community Development Association, appreciated Ambode for transforming the area.

Coker appealed to the governor to consider the construction of the Megida-Ishefun road in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA to reduce the hardship experienced by the residents in the area.

Mr Shakiru Yusuf, Chairman, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, expressed his gratitude to the governor for the construction of the two bridges and roads.

Yusuf appealed to the governor to fulfil his promise of situating a fish farming project in the area.
According to him, the project will create employment opportunities and boost economic activities.

In his address, Mr Ade Akinsanya, Commissioner, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, said that the network of roads would ease the burden of plying bad roads.

Akinsanya urged the communities in the area to protect the public assets by ensuring they are put to good use and not turned to markets or car parks for vehicles and trucks.
