Culture › Re: Obaship Crisis Rocks Yorubas In FCT by johnmark1234(m): 11:36am On Dec 04, 2015 |
Olaedo1: Obaship dispute rocks Yoruba community in FCT
The Obaship crisis rocking Yoruba Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is showing no sign of abating. In fact, it got to a level that the traditional ruler of Yoruba in the territory, Oba (Dr) Olusegun Salau, warned those he accused of sowing seeds of discord among members of the community for selfish interests, to desist from such. He even threatened that henceforth, anybody caught in the act would be handed over to security agencies for appropriate sanction.
The major contention is over who the authentic Oba of Yoruba in Abuja is. Salau had insisted that he remained the only recognised Oba and advised the contenders to embrace peace in the interest of the Yoruba race.
Oba Salau recently summoned an emergency meeting with chiefs and elders of the Yoruba community at his Kado’s place in Life Camp to find solution to the crisis. He told them that the meeting was summoned to find a way of redeeming the image of the community which he noted had been badly damaged through incessant crises and indiscipline among residents.
The Oba expressed dissatisfaction that the main reasons for the formation of the community were yet to be fully realised many years after the community was formed. ”During this period, it has been one form of crisis, mistrust, bickering, blackmail and all these have largely affected our progress and image as a community in FCT,” he told them.
According to him, “going down memory lane, you will recall that the birth of Yoruba Community, FCT came into being following my installation as the Oba Yoruba of Abuja at an event which was widely publicised and which was attended by all prominent Yoruba sons and daughters residing in Abuja.”
Oba Salau, who highlighted most of the steps taken earlier to ensure peace within the community as well as in other ethnic groups within the FCT, including the emergence of Six Area Councils’ chairmen with the appointment of an Oba as the chairman to coordinate the activities of the Yorubas in each Area Council who should report back to him, said that it was unfortunate that some members went ahead and sabotaged the efforts for selfish reasons. He told them: “It is time to put an end to all this nonsense. Our teeming brothers and sisters resident in the FCT are looking up to us for what will benefit them just as their neighbours are benefitting from their own tribal communities. In this new era of change, we cannot continue this way; it is unacceptable to me.”
Oba Salau insisted that there was no leadership problem in Yoruba community in the FCT and said: “I am the only person so chosen by the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa as the paramount traditional ruler and leader of Yoruba Community. I am quite aware of my enormous power “The fact that I allowed everybody to operate freely does not mean I am weak. Henceforth, I have resolved to put an end to this disgrace and embarrassments. My actions to some extend are to bring sanity and honour to the Yoruba community, FCT where it will earn us greater peace and progress,” he stated.
Oba Salau, certainly, did not stop there as he announced the prohibition of proliferation of Obaship titles in the FCT, saying that the action was in line with the authority conferred on him by the Ona Abaji and chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in FCT, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa. According to him, “Henceforth, there is only one Obaship title in the whole of FCT, which is my own: the Oba of Yoruba Abuja, while the rest will be known and addressed as Chief of Yoruba in the respective villages as my representatives in all the satellite towns and villages and they are expected to report back to me the activities of the Yorubas in the council areas
“Anybody or group of persons that move about parading themselves as leaders of Yoruba Community in Abuja, without my knowledge, for instance, the so-called Egbe Omo-Odua Yoruba in FCT, will henceforth be dealt with and treated as fraudsters.” “Any Chief without my approval that moves around parading himself as Chief of Yoruba in any part of the FCT, for instance, those whose certificates as Yoruba leaders do not emanate from my office, will be dealt with and treated as fraudsters,” he added.

TechRev: Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai yesterday visited Gajigana, Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State, which was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday.
He was received and conducted round troops’ deployment by the Commander 5 Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 243 Battalion.
The Chief of Army Staff while fielding questions from journalists that accompanied him, stated that he was there to see things for himself, asses the situation and give necessary directives.
Speaking further with the Commanders, he expressed dissatisfaction with the troops conduct and warned that such incident should not repeat itself.
The troops were reported to have fled their base after Boko Haram members nearly overpowered them in Gulak.
Buratai also called on the public, especially those residing in the affected area to support and cooperate with the troops by exposing suspected Boko Haram terrorists that live among them.
He stated that the recent wave of attacks by terrorists in Gulak and Gajigana should be seen as isolated, assuring that adequate measures were being taken to deal decisively with any such occurrences.
The COAS also assured that the military and the security agencies would continue to improve their performances.
He was accompanied by the Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Acting Director Military Intelligence and the Acting Provost Marshal (Army). Also on the entourage were representatives of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Police attached to the Military Command and Control Centre.
The troops, during the Gulak attack, killed 3 Boko Haram terrorists, while a number escaped with gun shot wounds. One soldier lost his life.
They recovered a Toyota Hilux, 1 PKM gun, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun, 3 AK-47 rifles, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade tube and 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade bomb.

bros12345: This whole crisis is very avoidable. I am an Igbo man, I do not support IPOB secession protest. But the way I see it, this is going to escalate nationwide.
Shooting this people will not stop the protest. They will only look for weapons and start retaliating.
Beyond the secession threat, what we want is to sit down and discuss the inclussion of the Igbo nation in this govt. Playing blind eye to this [protest is a big mistake by this administration.
Let me give you an idea. It may get to a level where the IPOB guys will start burning trailers and may even burn some mosques. Then the northern youths will start retaliating, burning down churches, and by then, blames will be going up and down. And if care is not taken, the whole nation will be in turmoil.
Cheers what is ur problem this man call hem self IG. Did we complain we close aur business for that |

I took my girlfriend out to the school social centre to eat and behold I saw the two together also eating and playing like lovebirds. I felt it was a normal thing to do with your husband's friend. After we left and came back home some minute after, we heard them open their door and laughing uncontrollably. 10 minutes later the room was quite and later fill with erotic sex sound track. I was surprised and same time very angry. I left my girlfriend who decided to watch a movie and left me thinking alone outside in the compound why a lady could be this wicked to allow her husband's friend do her. Politics › Re: Biafra; If Yusuf Were Alive Today, There Could Have Probably Been An End To Bok by johnmark1234(m): 8:58am On Nov 23, 2015 |
xmich: IGBO leader and a Board of Trustees (BoT) of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Rommy Ezeonwuka, has called on the Federal Government to be cautious in handling the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafran groups.
The Ogirisi Igbo urged the government not to repeat what happened to Yusuf Muhammed, self-styled leader and founder of Boko Haram with Nnamdi Kanu’s case.
“If Yusuf were alive today, there could have probably been an end to Boko Haram. Rather, Boko Haram is spreading because the leader that knows its secret code has been killed and no one knows how to decode it. Every activist has a special message from God. Asari Dokubo, Tompolo and others emerged to prove that the Niger Delta where Nigeria gets all its money has been denied its due. Today, Kanu is saying Igbo are being cheated and maltreated in a country where Igbo have shown so much love, being the only tribe that has put 90 percent of its investments outside its tribal land.
The message of Kanu and Dokubo are almost the same. Someone must rise to talk about the maltreatment and cheating on his people and that is what Kanu is doing. He never preached violence like some did.”
Ezeonwuka urged Ndigbo to unite with one voice and seek Kanu’s release. “Asking for his release does not mean I am encouraging him to go ahead for the actualisation of Biafra. My previous stand on Biafra is that every Igbo man is already a Biafran since May 1967 when General Odumegwu Ojukwu (retd) declared the Republic of Biafra.

Politics › Re: 105 Missing Soldiers: Nigerians Are Being Conned, Buratai Is Not Being Truthful by johnmark1234(m): 9:15am On Nov 20, 2015 |
MizMyColi: The Shadow Cabinet Of Nigeria in a state of utter shock and dismay hereby decry the coordinated bombings in Yola and Kano in the past 72 hours resulting in 49 deaths and many injured, worse still, the alleged case of 105 missing soldiers as reported in the media. We are aware of the recent press statement by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, that no army officer is missing.
We beg to differ on this. We have reached out to a few reliable sources within the ranks of the Nigerian military and we can confirm that things are very bad, the Nigerian press seem to be covering up a lot of things.
Could it be that the Nigerian Army and FG have colluded to quash this issue of grave concern by maintaining plausible deniability, in a bid to forestall a campaign similar to the BringBackOurGirls movement?
At this point, we demand to know the men who make up the 175 battalion, we demand a proof of life. Also, we demand undeniable proof that all vehicles, a truck loaded with over 60,000 rounds of AA ammunition and artillery pieces be accounted for. As a matter of National emergency and urgency we charge the presidency to take the following steps:-
1. Conduct a more thorough investigation and release an official press statement confirming or denying such reports. Nigerians deserve to know the truth. 2. Inform the Nigerian people on steps being taken to ensure the safe return of our gallant and brave soldiers to their families and loved ones, in the case that this report is officially declared to the general public as true.
3. Employ every might and resource to ensure that the Nigerian Army #BringBackOurSoldiers ALIVE. The Boko Haram insurgents have been reported as the world's deadliest terrorist organisation. Such negative and shameful development is a far cry from President Muhammadu Buhari's promise to annihilate Boko Haram within two months of assuming power.
The Chibok girls saga is yet to be resolved and at the time of this release, we have an alleged case of missing soldiers on our hands.
If this eventually turns out true, then it is a monumental embarrassment; A slap on our military might. This cannot be handled with kid gloves. We urge all hands to be on deck. Our collective resolve as a people must be to shun terrorism in all it's forms. In all sincerity and purpose, we hope that this alarming news turns out false, however, in a case where such is confirmed, our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the missing soldiers who are yet unsure of the fate of their husbands, sons, and fathers. Moreso, we commiserate with the families of all the victims in the recent bomb blasts. We pray that they be granted fortitude to bear such immense loss. We equally encourage our soldiers out there on the battlefield not to despair. Nigeria will rise. #SayNoToTerrorism #bringbacktherezoosoja |

The air component commander of the theatre operation, “Operation Lafiya Dole”, Isiaka Amao, said this while briefing journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday. “The air component struck a mass gathering of Boko Haram terrorists and their leaders at Wulge. “Report received after the strike was that it was a huge success as many terrorists were killed,” Mr. Amao said. He said NAF also sighted and neutralised terrorists’ vehicles in Kunshe town. The commander also said NAF destroyed Boko Haram’s logistics, vehicle workshop and a weapon storage facility after successful interdiction missions on their Sambisa forest hideout. Mr. Amao, an air commodore, said NAF also destroyed a bomb-making factory in the forest. “The air component has continued to intensify its air effort in support of the ground troops. In October, over 40 interdiction missions with over 80 per cent success were carried out. “Just to mention a few, we have in the month degraded the terrorists’ logistics in the Sambisa forest,” he said. Mr. Amao said the air force also destroyed two suspected terrorists’ camps in the forest. “The continued air strikes have significantly degraded the capabilities of the terrorists. “Likewise, two terrorist hideouts in Sambisa were destroyed,” he said. Mr. Amao, however, announced that NAF lost one of its pilots, Ebitimi Owei, during the month. “On a sad note, we lost a colleague, Flight Lt. Ebitimi Owei and a platform during one of the missions. May his gentle soul rest in peace,” he said. Mr. Amao said the death of Mr. Owei would not affect the morale of officers engaged in the operation. He said NAF also intercepted and destroyed a boat carrying fuel to the terrorists along Nigeria-Cameroon border. “Other armed missions were carried out in Geidam, Gamboru, Ngala, Mafa, Kirenowa and Banki towns, among others. “These missions were aimed at identifying and destroying opportunity targets and denying terrorists freedom of action,” the commander said. DrownedFish: I've been reminiscing spending my early years with my granny in the village then and how I got to learn some of our customs and traditions. The customs might sound weird today but it went a long way to hold our community together and foster unity and progress. The westernisation of our culture and traditions has led some of us to do away with some of our customs or traditions which we deem inimical to our Progress and develeopment. Some things are not allowed or frowned at in Igboland though it depends on the part of Igboland. I will use my village which is in Anambra state as a case study.
1. Its a taboo for a woman to pick or pluck Kolanut from its tree. The Men always love feeling superior and the Kolanut or Oji is a sacred crop in Igboland.
2. Its a taboo for a woman to break Kolanut in the prresence of a titled man. Men will always be men
3. Its against our custom to cook or pound in the night. This custom was made to encourage women to cook early and avoid late gossip. The village masquerade might come and take a goat just for breaking this law.
4. Its against our tradition for a child to cry in the night. The spirits are around then.
5. Its a big taboo to kill the EKE (python) in our place. You might die of swollen and potruding stomach if you don't do the neccassary cleansing.
6. There is this forest we fetch firewood called *Agbor* you are not allowed to fart, spit, poo, urinate, speak ill of the dead, whistle, mutter about something smelling. If you do any then be prepared for *akwukwo nju* to touch you. You will be walking aimlessly inside that forest.
7. Its againts our custom to leave heap of dirt around after sweeping your surrounding, its better you don't sweep at all. If you break it then prepare for soilder ant to come for war.
8. Its a taboo to dance close to our masquerade if you are not initiated into it and its a bigger taboo to be around when *Oji onu* comes out in the night.
9. Its a taboo for women to climb Palm tree, this was done to protect the female folks from the dangers of climbing and remember women are not allowed to wear trouser or shorts which ll make climbing impossible.
10. Its a taboo for a woman to commit adultery, it leads to instant madness but I think the menfolk are not bound by this. ( SMH for the African Woman)
11. We still reverence our deities and if you are summoned for an offence you are bound to appear for its settlemnt even if you are the Pope because the laws of the land still reign supreme and it protects the less priviledge.
Feel free to add yours let's see other taboos that are forbidden in your village.
