fergie001: Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, says President Muhammadu Buhari will likely dissolve his cabinet before May 29.
After assuming office in 2015, it took Buhari six months to unveil his cabinet and this attracted widespread criticisms.
But speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Adesina said the president will not spend a long time before choosing his cabinet members.
He said the president had already promised to do so as soon as possible.
When asked if the president would reshuffle his cabinet, Adesina said: “One thing about governance is that the first mandate was for four years.
“That mandate lapses on May 29, and shortly before May 29, the president is likely going to officially dissolve his government. That is the way it is usually done.
“He says thank you to everybody that he has called to work with him and then he dissolves that government officially.
“Then when he is inaugurated for a second time, he now reconstitute a government; he appoints his personal aides, he forms his cabinet, he appoints other people to fill other positions.”
Buhari was declared winner of the presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.
The president, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won a second term bid after polling over 15 million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured over 12 million votes in the election.

ahmedkoded95: Kano State Hisbah Board has discovered 15 women with HIV/AIDS among thousands of screened applicants for mass wedding in Kano. Besides, 23 women tested positive to pregnancy screening.
Hisbah’s spokesperson, Alhaji Adamu Yahaya, who told newsmen on the outcome of the exercise, revealed that 8,000 women applied for the state sponsored mass wedding programme, including divorcees, widows and spinsters. He said the screening was part of the prerequisites to ascertain the health status of intending couples before the consummation to enable the board and each person know the health status of their partner.
“The prospective couples were selected from the 44 local councils of the state and as soon as the screening is completed, the state government would fix the date for the conduct of the mass marriage”.He stressed that Governor Umar Ganduje has sustained the mass wedding initiative to check the rate of prostitution and assist those incapacitated to marry. Meanwhile, the heightened atmosphere of the general elections took the shine off last week’s celebration of Saint Valentine’s Day. Away from the boisterous ambience where the city of Lagos is serenaded in the colour of red, it was an unusual Valentine’s Day as most Lagosians went about their normal businesses while only few persons were seen donning an attire with a touch of red.
The Guardian also observed that most eatery outlets and gift item shops recorded low patronage unlike in previous years where even secondary school pupils mark the day with fanfare.
According to Ogunjide Olufunkanyi, manager of Chicken Republic, Victoria Island, she attributed the low turn out of customers to the preparations for the polls and lack of money in the system. On the contrary, Oaikhena Elimen, the branch manager of Medplus, a pharmaceutical store in Victoria Island, said there was a high patronage of condoms, which he said is as a result of Valentine, as many young ones would like to play safe when engaging in sex to mark the day.
“Really, we have recorded more sales of condoms today. The students want to show appreciation, love and have fun. People abuse this day by luring girls into immoral sexual activities in the name of valentine but there was high customer request for packs of condoms,” he added.

The Nigerian President who said he will continue with all the programmes and come up with more innovations that would further alleviate the sufferings of the poor if he was reelected, mentioned the fight against Boko Haram insurgents, the anti-corruption war and promotion of agriculture, particularly the ban on importation of rice as some of his achievements.
“My administration is making concerted efforts to liberate 17 local governments that were before under the Boko Haram insurgents.
“Before our election in 2014, the Boko Haram insurgents were confusing our youths, telling them that they were fighting because of Allah.
“When we were elected, we embarked on enlightenment campaigns preaching to the youths that they were being used to detonate bombs that kill innocent people. Islam does not support the killings of innocent people for no just cause,’’ he said.

CapitanPan: ABUJA – The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, will on Wednesday, hear a suit seeking to disqualify Governor Nyesom Wike from participating in the forthcoming governorship election in Rivers State, over an allegation that his birth certificate was forged
Justice Inyang Ekwo directed the service of hearing notice on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Governor Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who were listed as Defendants in the suit marked FHC / ABJ / CS /1430/3018, which was filed by one Mr. Elvis Chinda. The plaintiff, alleged that the certificate of birth Wike attached to the Form C. F. 001, which he submitted to INEC on November 2, 2018, for clearance to participate in the 2019 general election, was forged.
He told the court that the certificate titled “Statutory Declaration of Age”, attached to Wike’s Form C.F.001, and purportedly deposed to on October 3, 1986, by one Collins Nyeme Wike had claimed that Nyesom Wike at the time of deposition, was a native of Rumuepirikom in Obio / Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State According to the Plaintiff, “As at 3rd October 1986, there was no local Government Area known as Obio /Akpor Local Government Area in existence in Rivers State. “As at 1986, Rumuepirikom was not in Obio /Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State , but in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State being the parent LGA from where Obio /Akpor Local Government Area was carved out”. He told the court that Obio /Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State was created in 1989 by Decree No 12 of 1989, two years after the alleged forgery was committed. “That the certificate of birth ( Statutory Declaration of Age) was purported sworn to and issued at the High/Magistrate’s Court Registry, Port Harcourt but allegedly bears stamp of the Judiciary Probate Registry ,Port Harcourt. “There was no Court Registry, whether in 1986 or afterward known as High/Magistrate Court Registry Port Harcourt. No such Registry existed or exists any where in Port Harcourt or Rivers State”. Plaintiff said the forged certificate of birth misled INEC into believing that Wike had a genuine birth certificate that confirmed his alleged date of birth given as 13th March1963. The alleged that Wike presented the bogus birth certificate to maintain consistency and coverup falsehood and lies, which he started in 1998. He said the coverup, “began in 1989, when Wike expressed desire to contest for the local chairmanship of Obio/ Akpor Local Government Area Council election in Rivers State which INEC had fixed 35 years age for eligibility. “Wike was 30 years of age then and ineligible for that election. In order to qualify for that election, he forged the Certificate of birth now in contention. He has used it in subsequent elections.”
The plaintiff argued that INEC, “is not in a position legally to disqualify Wike from contesting the governorship election except the court gave an order disqualifying him for the breach of Section 182 (1) (j) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria”. Consequently, he is praying the court to among other things, determine: “Whether the certificate of Birth titled Statutory Declaration of Age deposed to by one Collins Nyeme Wike purportedly sworn to on 3rd October 1986 at the High/ Court Magistrate’s Court Registry, Port Harcourt lied about/against itself and contained falsehoods. As well as, “Whether by the combined provisions of section 182(1)(i ) and 1 (1) & (2)of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the 2nd defendant ought to be disqualified and declared ineligible to contest the 2019 governorship election in Rivers state made pursuant to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). In a 39 paragraphs affidavit in support of the originating summons, Elvis Chinda said that he is aware that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria disqualified any person seeking election into the office of the Governor, who presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)”.
He is further seeking, “A declaration that the Certificate of Birth titled Statutory Declaration of Age deposed to by one Collins Nyeme Wike purportedly sworn to on 3rd October 1986 at the High/ Court Magistrate’s Court Registry, Port Harcourt and presented by (Gov Wike)the 2nd Defendant to (INEC) the 1st Defendant on the 25th December 2014 for the purpose of the 2015 General Governorship Election in Rivers State was forged. “A declaration that, the information contained in the Affidavit Form C.F. 001 deposed to by 2nd Defendant on the 29th October 2018 and presented to the (INEC)1st Defendant on the 2nd November, 2018 for the purpose of the 2019 Governorship Election in Rivers State was false.
“A declaration that by the provisions of section 182(1)(i) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended)/,(Wike) the 2nd defendant is not qualified or eligible to contest and participate in the 2019 Governorship election in Rivers State or any other such election, having presented a forged certificate to (INEC) the 1st defendant. “An order of the Court directing the disqualification of (Wike) the 2nd defendant from contesting or holding out himself for the 2019 General Governorship election in River State or any other elections made pursuant to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , 1999, (as amended) having presented a forged certificate to the 1st defendant.
Likewise, “An order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC, the 1st defendant from receiving or accepting from (PDP),the 3rd defendant or any other person any nomination of the 2nd defendant , from processing such nomination, or from presenting Wike the 2nd defendant on ballot, in respect of the2019 Governorship Election or any other elections made pursuant to the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.

KEVIND: A coalition of top Niger Delta agitators have threatened to unveil a government that would oversee the affairs of the region, and equally declared their readiness to work with the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari. They said that Buhari’s suspension and replacement of Onnoghen by a Northerner was part of his ethnic agenda, which is unhealthy to the country’s unity.
The agitators, who issued the threat yesterday in a communiqué after a meeting that started in Southern Ijaw, Bayelsa on Saturday, noted that since Buhari remains focused on his alleged ethnic agenda, they (agitators) would unveil a government that would oversee the affairs of the Niger Delta region. The communiqué, among others was signed by General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs), and Convener: Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators; General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers); General Simply Benjamin (Bakassi Strike Force); General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors) and Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters).
The agitators described the suspension of Onnighen as a “blatant exhibition of rascality and the highest form of dictatorship, tyranny and fascism in the 21st Century, which we view as the highest level of insult on the collective intelligence of the Niger Delta people.” They added:”The removal is a coup against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a coup against the Rule of Law and separation of powers and a coup against the Nigerian Democracy.
“It is a face-off with the Niger Delta people, and we call on the International Community to note this so that when we would retaliate nobody would blame us. This is clearly aimed at preventing Justice Onnoghen from selecting/inaugurating credible judges that would handle election petitions in their respective Tribunals.
Shobowalebola: Orji Kalu, former Abia governor, has criticised Ohanaeze Ndigbo for endorsing Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Kalu expressed disappointment with the group on Sunday while speaking with journalists at his country home in Igbere, Bende local government area of the state.
He said the John Nwodo-led executive of the organisation betrayed the people’s trust and exposed the body as being partisan.
“Ohanaeze is a socio-cultural organisation and so should not be seen to be partisan. What the leadership did by endorsing Atiku was not in the interest of the Igbo nation,” Kalu said.
“The endorsement also did not enjoy the support of the majority of members but may be a committee’s decision.”
Kalu described the endorsement as wrong and capable of decimating the organisation into two factions, if not rescinded.
He said: “I was very surprised that Nwodo, whom I have a lot of respect for, could do such a thing because that is not the right thing to do.
“What they just did implies that we have two Ohanaezes, or we are going to have another organisation in a different name.
“I will be in consultation with Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra and other people of goodwill to decide what we will do next, we are not going to accept it.
“These are card-carrying members of PDP, they cannot use Ohanaeze platform to endorse any candidate, it’s not acceptable to us.
“We want a level playing ground. I expected Ohanaeze to be neutral, whoever wins, they should support.
“I’m not even expecting them to endorse Buhari, we want them to be neutral because neutrality is the hallmark of every independent cultural association.”
The former governor dismissed the fear that the endorsement would sway the voting pattern in the south-east against President Muhammadu Buhari.
