PoliticsJapa: Only 6,000 Medical Consultants Remain In Nigeria – MDCAN by Jokerman(op): 7:15am On Jan 26, 2025
The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) says only 6,000 consultants are left in the country.

Its President, Prof. Muhammad Mohammad, said this on Thursday during the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting in Ilorin.

Mohammad explained that 6,000 consultants remain as of February 2024, lamenting that data showed that about 1,300 left Nigeria in the last five years.

According to him, the number will continue to dwindle as the retirement age for medical consultants is 60 years.

“About 1,700 consultants are above 55 years of age.

“This means that in the next five years, they are going to leave the services for retirement,”
he said.

The MDCAN president emphasised that the number of consultants would continue to reduce, as long as the country produces only one or two per annum.

So you can see that the replacement cannot keep up with the loss from ‘Japa’ syndrome and from retirement,” he said.

Mohammad commended the government for its efforts toward finding solutions to the challenges.

Mohammad also appealed to the government at all tiers to ensure medical lectures are placed on the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), addressing disparities in their emoluments.

“We also want to have an environment where we will be able to practice and deliver the best quality healthcare in Nigeria,” he said

He did not see reason to demand why their governors can not replicate what every other governor outside their SE is doing in terms of free education and waec subsidies , instead he had the audacity to open a thread to complain of Lagos state ministry of education demanding for tax clearance certificate before enrolling students for waec that the government will pay 100% for
So no more free education again??

No one is asking you to pay 10k.

If you can provide your tax clearance for the period requested , then no need to pay.

If you don't have it , then you pay the non refundable #10k for the school board to verify and get it for you.

Note that if you have no records of paying taxes in Lagos and you still pay the #10k, your own nah sorry.
Oga I had someone last week who pays tax, and was still asked that his son pay 10k, as the name must tally on the tax clearance cert.

Fool, the students have parents who enrolled them in the schools.

Before you can enroll any child in a school be it public or private , a adult standing as a parent must register on behalf of the child.

The tax clearance certificate is to ascertain if the parents are domiciled in the state and are paying their due taxes.
I understand

But WAEC that was free, they are not collecting 10,000 as tax clearance from students...

It was not so before... Especially if the parents submit their own,but now the child must have his/her apart from the parents

It has been a trend since 1999 for these people to run to other states where education is free and waec fees are 100% subsidised by state governments.

Why is it paining him that isn't from Lagos ?

It is paining him because Lagos state subsidy on both public school fees and waec registration has been exploited by them.

Note that these are the same idiots who defended obi not investing in building public schools throughout his 8y tenure and who see nothing wrong in obi jacking school fees for all Anambra state owned schools from primary up to tertiary.

But the fool is demanding free education in Lagos - a state he is neither an indigene of or a tax paying resident.

Lagos state is tired of offering you from the yeast free education and paying for your waec fees.

The tax clearance is meant to weed out students whose parents or wards are not resident in Lagos but who send their children from your yeast to come and leach on Lagos tax payers money.

Go and hold your useless governors like obi and co who never invested in subsidizing education but rather see it as a profit venture .
So you mean someone who lives and resides in Kwara, will register their child in Lagos state public Day schools? Wetin do Kwara public schools?

Well, no wahala, can you also tell us why ss3 students are asked to pay tax when they aren't working yet?

Remember the students paying these taxes are residents of Lagos state, and their parents already pax tax and have LASSRA IDs?

PoliticsRe: Why Is Lagos State Imposing Tax Clearance On WAEC Students? by Jokerman(op): 9:50pm On Jan 25, 2025
GBTYO:
The tax clearance is for the student's parents and not the students .

This is because, since 1999 with Bola Tinubu as Governor of Lagos state, education up to secondary school has been free and the state government has been paying for waec fees for all Students in Lagos public schools.

Since then, those people from across the Niger whom their governors neither build or invest in new schools or offer free education but have been jacking up fees instead and promoting miracle centres have decided to be exploiting the free waec registration and free education provided by Lagos state.

The tax clearance certificate is meant to weed out students whose parents are not resident in the state .
Lies.

The tax clearance is also collected for those vying to enter into Lagos state government secondary schools now.

I know this because I recently updated my staff tax IDs.

So what are lagos state citizens now enjoying in education?

You are taxing everything

On my last thread, I asked this question, what are Nigerians benefiting from this government?

https://www.nairaland.com/8323152/name-one-thing-nigerians-benefitting

Now, my question again, when did WAEC students of SSS3, start working, that they are asked to pay tax?

Now you say WAEC is free, but you are collecting 10,000 for tax clearance, how is this free? So Lagos citizens can't benefit anything from government too again?
PoliticsWhy Is Lagos State Imposing Tax Clearance On WAEC Students? by Jokerman(op): 9:35pm On Jan 25, 2025
The Lagos State government has mandated public secondary school students registering for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to pay a compulsory N10,000 tax clearance fee.

This development, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, has sparked concerns and debates among parents and students across the state.

According to a parent of an SS3 student in one of the affected schools, the directive was issued to Senior Secondary 3 (SS3) students in government-owned schools, stating that WAEC registration fees had already been covered by the government. However, students must now pay for tax clearance to complete their registration.

“It is true because I paid 10k this morning to allow him for capturing,” the parent said. “We were told to collect the receipt in the office on Monday.”

The parent of one of the affected students shared the message from the school principal to all parents, “Parents are advised to pay their taxes and give the receipts to the students as data capture is slated for tomorrow 24th January 2025.”

Multiple students from other schools in the area also corroborated the claim, adding that the clearance must bear the student’s surname as used in the school records to qualify for the exemption.

Traditionally, WAEC registration in Lagos public schools has been free of charge. However, this new directive has raised eyebrows, with some parents questioning the fairness and legality of imposing such fees on students in public schools.
