The ice and glaciers on both Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro has been melting fast due to climate change. Mt Kenya (second highest in Africa after Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the source of Tana river which generates hydro power. Recently, a UK firm bagged a tender to build a two billion dollar dam in Tana River. https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/British-firm-gets-nod-to-build-mega-dam-in-Kenya/539546-4787886-py7qbpz/index.html sufferNsmiling: It seems like mount kilmanjaro has a lot of gracias. That means a lot of water running down. Do you generate power from the water running down like south africa and australia degenerate power from their ice caps on the mountains. This might be an alternative to geothermal power station |

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2056.htmlThe CIA have been right all along. Quick question, if their corporations make profits in billions of dollars more than Kenya, where then is the cash in their coffers ? Where is the money? Where are the dollars ? Their sectors make more revenues than us ? Why is their treasury short of cash then? South Africa have have a more than 100 billion for budgetary purposes! Can they match this ? Coming next year their budget will be in the region of 29-28 b dollars. You can then add 2 or 3 b from the states. The 35 billion you've been giving them was an act of genorisity from you. It's remittances which keeps Nigeria afloat! rvp20183: That is not even 3B dollars - and they are allowed to levy taxes. Lagos with a GDP of 100B generates 1B dollars. Cooking need to be a little credible.
And then whole federal gov generates hardly 10B dollars - a 500B gorrilla of economy.
And so in total Nigeria generated 13B dollars - I guess this include OIL? |

When it comes to economics and money matters, you can't brush off the per capita factor! Daejoyoung: Per capita is too simplistic a factor to be used for stuff like this. For example, in Nigeria some of the best swimmers would easily come from the ljaw tribe in Southern Nigeria, but they are not even amongst the majority in Nigeria. lf they win awards for Nigeria tomorrow, it would be useless to measure their no of awards per capita, just like you also say your athletes who win gold all the time are usually from a small part of Kenya, and they beat the U.S without even having to bring the per capita factor of both countries because it's unnecessary. So the truth is that Kenya has better runners than the U.S(and it's evident, per capita or no). Brazil have more football awards than China, India, and the U.S, we don't also need per capita for that. lt's same with entertainment as a whole. This is why your logic here is absurd. |

Kenya's and SA slums are true slums and are built on illegal land. Your slums are cities, that's the difference. Abeoukuta is a one permanent slum! Your slum population is almost equal to our 48-50million people in Kenya! Iwantslavesgone: You are an idiot . What could be more of a big slum than kibera , mathare and Soweto |

The fact that this thread is soon going to be 3000 pages shows how poor you really are! That big GDP isn't even commensurate to the salaries your public servants earn! Imagine Abeokuta is a City! Abeokuta is a great case of a full slum city! NairobiWalker: Obaboon always barks and pants like a dog whenever anyone points out something successful about their country. See now he's using a single picture of a slum to claim South Africa is a slum. Meanwhile, the whole of Nigeria is a slum. They'll tell you Southern Nigeria is rich yet when you look at places like Onitsha and Abeokuta which are in Southern Nigeria, you die laughing.

This is your 2019 projection of population. We are only days to 2019. We have been setting the pace for green energy investment and adoption in Africa.Electricity isn't our main agenda now.We are now focusing on the soft aspects like universal healthcare coverage and important basics like affordable housing. This is not say that we've stopped investments in the hardcore projects, talk of projects that consume alot of cement and steel like roads, ports, heavy industries and railways. We have a clear development roadmap up untill 2022,electricity isn't one of the agenda, but some more investment are needed to reach 100% connectivity. For power, the focus is to be 100% renewable in some few years to come! With cheaper renewable power, our manufacturing capacity should shoot up.Our electricity tarrifs need to be competitive when compared to economies such as Egypt,Ethiopia and SA in order to attract more industrial related investments into the economy. Kazikazi: In this era of renewables it have been much easier. We had much difficulties providing power on hundreds of small islands, but thanks to today's solar power technologies. We will reach 100% on 2020/2021 financial year.
I am surprised at your Kenya. With no small islands, with smaller population, and smaller area than Tanzania, you should have reached 100% long ago! I think you are lagards |

What you have done for housing is commendable. We've got a plan for affordable housing too.The plan is to make it as cheap as 6000 dollars for a one bedroom apartment! This plan targets those earning less than 1000 dollars a month who normally don't qualify for mortgages in Kenya! TMKsouth: Are u seriously saying nothing else has been built or good achieved since 1994? Dude, even those things built during apartheid times have been properly maintained or even upgraded to world class status (by a black govt). Our airports & roads being the case in point. Plz plz plz Google OR Tambo International Airport & weep.

10 Things the ANC Got Right in South Africa https://businesstech.co.za/news/general/122723/10-things-the-anc-got-right-in-south-africa/
1. Approximately 12 million households have access to electricity, seven million more than in 1994.
2. South Africa has seen strong growth in the black middle class, believed to have surpassed that of white South Africans several years ago already.
3. Nearly 500 informal settlements have been replaced with quality housing and basic services. Three million free houses have been built, benefiting more than 16 million people. |

If the housing levy can collect 500 million US dollars annually, then housing is pretty much done. In a decade, that means that Kenya's housing levy would have poured 5 billion US dollars into the market. The pension pool is one that should be considered much just like the way you've said. What is Rotich doing? Lastly, the IMF team have been here and gave some promising outlooks of the economy,I thought they didn't want any business with us after their recent bursts and rants about the shilling and our economy! rvp2018: I think insurance is pretty maxed out already. What is needed and treasury has not had the balls to do is a FUNDED Civil Service Pension Fund. We continue to have unfunded civil service pension that depend on tax payers. If we were to force all public servants to belong to Civil Service Pension fund - we would be talking billions of dollars - worth of money - that can be invested.
You need to look at South Africa pension - ours is 10B - Nigeria 20B - South Africa's is 370B!!!!!!!! And the solution is for treasury to move civil servants from unfunded to funded pension - like private sector - and create a huge fund - that would make NSSF look like a joke.
The civil servants would be forced to contribute % with gov meeting 50% of it - and nobody would be entitled to pension from tax-payers moving forward. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 3:10pm On Dec 23, 2018 |
That's a good one. There are many policies that need to be put into place. The insurance industry literally sits on a goldmine, they command huge financial muscles. There has been talks of them being brought in to fund big money projects. Then we have the remittances that can yet fund cash intensive projects, this one would soon be realised.Bright things ahead! We are talking of Sukuk and green bonds right now. The state plan of a the mortgage corporation which should be able to collect 500 million US dollars just for housing is something that should be backed by all stakeholders. Intresting things are happening in Kenya's financial sphere! rvp2018: I am ambivalent. I think we need small innovative like Equity or say Unitas sacco - but we also need well capitilized banks. Small banks are big risk - they can collapse any time - like Imperial or Chase bank.
So I'd say CBK should continue to raise the capital requirement - and hopefully we will have big enough banks to be able to fund big ticket projects. |

No correlation at all? What does GDP measure? Aren't banks important institutions when talking about 'money matters and economics ' which GDP itself seeks to measure? Ibrahimanis: This again? You still believe that nigeria"s GDP is cooked
I've never said Nigeria's banking is bigger than SA.
And again their is no correlation between size of GDP and Size of a country's Bank assets. |
