The good thing with our FDI is that it is spread out in many sectors thereby impacting more people across different value chains! Some countries get billions of FDI's which are mostly gobbled up by just one or two sectors.Anyways,FDI's are welcomed and they should be a blessing to any country!

In Kenya, FDI flows increased by 27 per cent to $1.6 billion. Investments were received
in diverse industries including manufacturing, chemicals, hospitality, and oil and gas. The
country has been making strides to facilitate private enterprise and foreign investment,
which are contributing to increasing FDI. It improved its “Ease of Doing Business” ranking
and has also been marketing its export processing zones (EPZs) as attractive destinations
for manufacturing-oriented foreign investment. Uganda and the United Republic of
Tanzania saw increases in FDI flows of 67 and 18 per cent (to $1.3 billion and $1.1 billion),
respectively. \

It's a private one! We were built under capitalism. This university though is heavily subsidised by its owners. It's also gives out hundreds of scholarships.

As for our public ones, not everything is fully free but the government subsidises a lot.

So you've got a startling 30M acres of arable land (no 9 worldwide) - with 1.5M tonnes of fertilizer - what is the per acre application of fertilizer(urea) again- and then you somehow beat all those countries - to become 4th largest agriculture produce in world - and yet nobody has ever seen a ship full of Nigeria food. Pick any of those countries - US, Brazil, Ukraine, Indonesia - even Kenya - there are thousands of ships now - with their food.

In mitigation, you can claim the fact that nearly all 200M Nigerians are openly defecating on the land after a heavy meal of fufu, has produced one of the most successfully organically farmed agriculture.

Most wigs are made out of sisal. And Tanzania is the biggest sisal producer in Africa( second in the world). The question is_why should a country which produces such huge quantities of sisal imports wigs?
So the gov have imposed taxes to boost local manufacturers.Currently, we manufacturer little amount of wigs. We need to be the second or biggest exporter of wigs in the world

In many countries such products are taxed very low or exempted of any tax. I'm not surprised as Magufool once said that girls who get pregnant shouldn't school anymore.Doesn't look a classy man to me ! The guy hates girls and women. Would be surprised if I find three women ministers in Tanzania!

Safaricom is the only Kenyan business listed on the prestigious ‘Forbes Global 2000’ list of the leading 2000 public companies in the world. The firms are ranked based on their sales, profit, assets and market value.
Safaricom posted $2.4 (KSh240) billion in sales in the last financial year with its profit hitting $623 million (KSh63 billion).
In 2019, only 17 companies based in Africa made it on the list. Ten of the public firms are from South Africa, three from Morocco, and two from Nigeria. Banks and financial institutions dominated the African list.
South Africa’s Standard Bank Group emerged as the top African company on the 2019 Forbes list. The group has a market value of$22.9 billion (KSh2.3 trillion). It posted $9 (KSh909) billion in sales, and a net profit of $2.1 (KSh212) billion in the latest financial report.
Other notable African businesses on the list are; Dangote Group, Absa Group, Commercial International Bank, and MTN Group. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China was ranked as the top company on the Forbes list for the 7th consecutive year. 575 firms on the ranking are based in the US.

Geothermall Kings


Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has won a Sh5.2 billion tender to drill geothermal wells in Ethiopia, marking the second win in the landlocked country in under four months.

Business development director at KenGen Moses Wekesa said it has reached an agreement with an independent power producer (IPP), Tulu Moye Geothermal Operations Plc, located in the eastern region of Ethiopia, to drill wells and offer geo-scientific survey.

“We bid and the first bidder fell off. We were the second best evaluated bidder. The IPP has now engaged us in discussion. We have negotiated and settled,” said engineer Wekesa during the recent energy debate convened by QLand Energy Communications Consultancy.

“We will be providing geo-scientific survey and drilling eight geothermal wells. One geothermal well costs about Sh650 million.”

This will be the second such tender for KenGen in the horn country after it announced February that it has won part of a Sh7.6 billion contract to supply geothermal drilling services to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).

KenGen said it would be supplying about 30 percent of the component of phase II which translates to about $ 6.2 million (Sh620 million). Mr Wekesa said the latest win will deepen KenGen’s vision to diversify revenue streams, riding on experience in the energy space. “We have over the period developed a very solid experience in human capital especially in geothermal and we have been seeking opportunities to export our expertise,” said Mr Wekesa.

It is now eying Rwanda and Djibouti for geothermal project, having hosted Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh at the Olkaria geothermal fields in Naivasha last year.

For the Chief Executive, Global Analytics Limited, Tope Fasua, making reference to “Budget of Consolidation,” was not correct, rather it should be called “Budget of mediocrity”, when compared to the budget of some African countries.

“Nigeria economy is supposed to be the biggest in Africa. But, we are the lowest, both in per capita budget figures and in absolute terms. Nigeria is in the middle among South Africa, Algeria, Egypt and Angola.

“This year, South Africa is budgeting about $116 billion, against Nigeria’s $23 billion, despite being the highest appropriation ever. Angola is doing $124 billion; Algeria $53 billion and Egypt $40 billion.



“What it shows is that successive Nigerian governments have not been dreaming. Not enough revenue is being generated, yet we are one of the most profligate countries in the world. We should be budgeting about N30 trillion,” Mr. Fasua said.
