Costs will never be the same! That's the point!
68816419:
keep quite u fool, and you think Nigeria and Ethiopia's SGR ain't fenced and never had same issues as yours (compensation, labour wages...) how much does fencing a 470km of "single line" rail costs, what types of Sgr classification is yours and was the first phase rail construction costs parts of Naivasha lines, if yes, what's the distance from Nairobi terminal to Naivasha .?

Kenya's Railway is Earthquake Proof. Can sustain an 8 Richter scale Earthquake!

It's built like a bird nest, all units are tied together. We are talking of a formidable class 1 Chinese Railway!

Contractors have allayed fears earth tremors can destroy the standard gauge railway line.

China Communications Construction Company, the contractor working of the Nairobi-Naivasha line, said on Tuesday they have implemented new technology to ensure the lines are safe from earthquakes.

CCCC's spokesman Steve Zhao said many geologists were involved in the installation of the technology. He spoke to reporters in Naivasha.

There were fears the line could be damaged following tremors that shook several counties on Sunday.

On Monday, the Kenya National Highways Authority said a fault line on a critical bridge along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway could be as a result of the tremors.

But CCCC said the sgr line is safe.

Zhao said all elements in the station buildings, such as walls and the roof, had been tied together like a giant nest.

“This will act as an integrated unit during earthquake shaking, transferring forces across connections and preventing separation,” Zhao said.

Zhao said other earthquake resistant measures incorporated in the line include building the railway track on a wider sub-grade - the foundation the track is built on.

“The sub-grade and slope in the sgr Phase 2A are relatively higher and wider in comparison to Phase 1 from Mombasa to Nairobi,” he said.

He said the contractor had determined the safest seismic fortification to be implemented for the line to meet an earthquake resistance intensity of 8, in the area between Embulbul – Ngong and Duka Moja – Narok.

Land compensation, labour wages, sgr type classification all play part into the cost. For instance Kenya has fenced it's railway from Mombasa all the way to Naivasha.Such minor details increase up the cost. Also a ready power line runs parallel along the line ready for future electrification!

If you want a cheap version of the Jeep,Hilux,Vitz or Prado.Just go to IVM and get one! Do they draw their own prototypes on paper or they come ready being designed from China?
rvp20182:
They are just arguing here because they are desperate for any success in their poverty-ridden hopeless country. The manufacturer of shitty cars in China is well known. In a functioning country that has standards and the works - you'll not be allowed to claim 'Made in Nigeria' badge if you - but were dealing with a country of morons by morons. Any Nigerian with a half a brain left the country never to come back. The cream left and here we are dealing the dredge...

Does Nigeria manufacture vehicles?
theenchanter:

Are kenyans not buying ur locally made vehicle? Or is d vehicle manufacturing company still at infancy?
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:00am On Jun 08, 2019
What IVM are doing is car assembling! There is nothing Nigerian about their cars! Some of their cars look like some knock off Jeeps,Hilux or Prados. There is much plagiarism in their designs, zero originality!
rvp2018:
Mobius last I checked were using KVM - in Thika town - for their manufacture. They have original designers - have hired top guys from top European and US car manufacturers - and are actually manufacturing a car. Re-badging Chinese clones of cars is not something we need to discuss here.

The Chinese aren't even our greatest lenders, the Bretton Woods institutions are.
rvp20182:
You'll find such articles funded or written by Western as Chines eat their challenges. The true story about Kenya SGR is great success. The NBO-MSA railway was constructed in record 3yrs - and began passengers services in June 2017 - and cargo in jan 2018. For passengers - four trains - two trains each direction ply the route daily. For Cargo - we began with 1 train in Jan - and kept adding a train every year - and now we are doing 14 trains each direction - about 28 trains per days.

Here is the chinese ambassador to Kenya take.

We believe SGR is economically viable. Note that in first year of operations, Mombasa-Nairobi SGR has earned Sh10.33 billion, which is close to the operating cost of Sh12 billion. It’s never easy for a railway project to achieve nearly break-even in a year. Kenyan and Chinese operators deserve credit for that achievement. China has full confidence in Kenya’s ability to make profits from SGR.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 7:49am On Jun 08, 2019
The Mobius may not be so much spectacular but most of it's components are made locally. It was mostly built by hands and it's only this year that robots will be doing much of the work!
rvp2018:
Now that is car manufacturing - re-badging Chinese cars - like Nigerians and Ghanians are doing is crazy and won't be allowed in many countries - and would be treated as importation.

You can feel the presence of South Africa's GDP.Whilst Algeria,Egypt and Morocco have bigger GDP's than Kenya, you won't see them featuring top and being much visible in each and every stat. They(SA) are still to some extent a mineral based economy but they've been able to create and bring synergy effect from all sectors of their economy as compared to the other countries that currently beat Kenya in GDP terms! It is for this reason that they are touted as the most advanced economy in the continent!

These are the benefits!

So you are saying that 3 million people and almost half a million TEUs have been transported without accidents being reported? That's one of the benefits you can pull from usage of Railway transport!
rvp2018:
In the meantime - Kenya SGR - started construction in 2014 - and in record 3yrs was in Nairobi - and now in Naivasha (about 600ksm) - and in 2yrs of operation (1 yr for cargo)...

According to the statistics from the Africa Star Railway Operation Company Ltd, by 31st May, SGR has offered service to 3 million passengers and transported 440,000 TEUs. The transportation management to 25 stations out of 33 is fully handled by Kenyan employees. The localization of 9 passenger service stations, train service and passenger management has reached beyond 90%.

Compare to NIGERIA smiley

Nigeria SGR I think began in 2006 smiley and is still far from complete - Lagos - Kano SGR - only complete part is Abuja-Kaduna -200kms- (possibly with embarrassing operational stats).

Abuja-Kaduna - (3yrs) of “safe operation of the Abuja- Kaduna train service” offering services to over 1.5 million passengers so far. MSA-NBI in 2yrs - 3M passengers.

Waiting patiently to see if Air Tz and their railway will make profits! It's a worldwide phenomenon that such ventures mostly don't generate monetary profits even those in developed nations!
TayserMahri:
You can sing that to the birds. I will never take you seriously, and your Tz. You hyped your SGR too much until you confused Uganda. Now after realizing how much you have wasted them with your sluggish, snailish, tortoise pace they have turned back to the Kenyan route and committed real money this time. Though personally I had a feeling Uganda was co-opting your route to hide their own shortcomings. They knew they had no money to start with, and virtually no institutions would be willing to lend them, and Kenya would really rush them on the project because they knew when Kenya commits to something it is as good as done. So they pretended to be having deeply thought & smarter plans with the Tanzanian route to mask their own weaknesses - knowing of course your slow pace would buy them much needed time and space to breathe and atleast gather a few funds. They were never serious on your route, just saving face. Either way, your SGR is now on its death bed. And you should be thankful actually. It was too expensive for you anyway. Its good to learn to live within your means. Dont try to compete with Kenya - utapasuka msamba grin

So this is one of the biggest projects in the world? The Tanzanians are on meth! grin grin grin
Acadavah:
The first phase of sgr will complete in November. Uganda Tanzania pipeline was planned to start this year June. LNG plant was planned to start at 2022. The LNG cost 30B us dollar which is half of our GDP that's why the project depend on those foreign companies to do it.

It will be a game changer. Our banks have already embraced digital banking! I think our banks are the most innovative in Africa when it comes to that front! We are now talking of blockchain and AI technologies! We are ahead of many in Africa when it comes to embracing this disruptive innovations. As a matter of fact,we have a task-force formed by our president on task to establish how we as a country can fully harness and benefit from blockchain technology!

Telecoms might soon begin to apply for digital banking licences . The cash transfer thru this medium is getting bigger everyday. It has overtaken traditional cheques. The future has a lot of promise tontelecoms operating this service. Full Digital banking is coming soon. This wiill be a game changer.

And Kenya will be growing at 3 percent per annum with a shilling depreciation of around 20% coming next year.Ethiopia's story is the same as the Rwanda one, both showing great promise but overrated as f*ck!
cossano:
and i pointed that out, yes it is not something to celebrate, but look at the bigger picture, even in china when massive industrialization started there, cheap labor was one of the factors that drove industries to china, so many companies will rush to invest in Ethiopia due to factors such as cheap labor, then once labor becomes more educated the wages will rise and by the time this same industries will be looking for another country in the third world to relocate their companies Ethiopia would have gain so much in terms of knowledge transfer so much so that it will have its own local apparel industries to compete with the rest of the world. remember its not always about wages but transfer of knowledge.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 2:38pm On Jun 06, 2019
In manufacturing, all those countries you've mentioned aren't on the same breath as Kenya.I however agree that more needs to be done in our manufacturing sector!
cossano:
no. Kenyas manufacturing is not a joke, its the high cost of production that is killing manufacturing in Kenya, towns such as nakuru in their glory days use to be manufacturing haven but due to high taxes, exorbitant power cost, higher wages compared to neighboring countries etc the industries died, i know you said you are from nakuru, can you share images of the collapsed industries here? i mean nakuru's industrial area is a ghost town, the government must fix these, last week KEPSA, urged the govt to atleast lower corporate tax to 20% to spur industrialization in the country. under the prevailing circumstances do you expect us to compete with Uganda and Tanzania? or even Ethiopia where a worker in their EPZ earn an equivalent of kes.6,000 while their Kenyan counterparts earns almost kes.15,000
