When a top commander from Nairobi visited the troops in Somalia! The soldiers appeared in great condition, well clothed(their gear was in top condition).I am glad seeing the SCAR-H gun in the first photo.I didn't know that we used this badass of a rifle in bush wars,I thought this guns were only a reserve for the special forces. I can see the camp barber being used well-there are so many clean heads.

They've got an opus dei connection. That may explain the strict dress code and being a law, business and IT university I can understand why they'll be dressing official ! It's sad though that my jeans and snickers won't be allowed! Mkenya2019: They need to relax the dress code though. I was at Nairobi Tech weeks last month or so - and they sent us a dress code - . Yes I think what likes of Nairobi have is their old reputation, course offered (eng & medicine) and ability to take the top students. 90% of all top 100 students will by default choose UON. That is where Strathmore need to get.
University of Nairobi admits 16 out of 20 top KCSE candidates - and they mostly want to study medicine or engineering. https://www.nation.co.ke/news/education/UoN-admits-16-out-of-20-top-KCSE-candidates/2643604-4381220-12owc1g/index.html |

I'm a big fan of that university. It's currently in position 4/5 in Kenya. In some years to come,it's going to be 1/2 in Kenya if our public varsities don't step up their game a notch higher. Strathmore now wants to invest in Engineering courses and open up a medical school, the future looks bright for them! Mkenya2019: Strathmore wins against Harvard in moot court competition Geneva |

We can do more for our dairy sector. This is why the Africa free trade pact makes sense. There are a lot of milk ATMs nowadays. Well, Kenyans consume milk more than anything else. It's great hearing that some governors still carry out the free milk programmes in schools. That's how you slowly kick out malnutrition among the under-aged! Mkenya2019: The average price for packed processed milk for 2018 is 120 (61 per 500ML) according to KNBS. I think formal sector is nearly 1 billion dollars - for milk sold - yogurt, ghee, butter. |

Their farmers want to trade with Kenya, their government doesn't. Well, we'll just import from Uganda, Mexico or Zambia! Those neighbouring countries won't even give them good prices per bag than Kenya. Guess what, they'll get a good price from Zim with their currency! Mkenya2019: Now that makes sense. So Maize looks like it's trending towards half of all foods - you use way too much land on Maize - Tanzania is just maize fields after maize fields. The yields are poor and poverty rampant. You could do with more diversity. Why not even try Irish potatos or at least more nutritious foods.
The worse part in the maize story - you block kenya from importing your maize in your usual jealousy and envy - and your farmers are suffering - from poor maize prices. Uganda farmers are singing to the bank - as Kenya go for their maize, maize gems and bran.
Instead of allowing maize, cashew nuts and name it farmers & traders to freely trade their maize - Magufool is out there selling maize and cashewnuts to all sort of conmen . What if Zim doesn't have money to pay for the maize - like the Kenyan dude failed to pay for all the cashew nuts . You go signing a maize contract like it was a big deal. |

Taking into account the possible five billion litres produced all over the country, the figures should translate into those billions you are denying. Processed milk is sold at sh.100 per litre while in the informal market the same goes for about sh.70. obaaderemi: Don't be silly like your lying rvp brother. Less than a billion litres of Kenya's milk is processed. You lack the technological capacity. In fact about 10% of Kenya's milk is processed. So how does that translate into billions. While we must give you kudos for how far you have gone with milk and horticulture, lying to yourselves only takes away the shine. That guy knows nothing about economics. |

You get money when you sell milk just as milk. What about when you add value to it and sell it as yoghurt or any other known dairy product? You just don't take the annual production and multiply it by the market price so as to get the true value of Kenya's dairy sector. |

He hasn't recently read the report done by Ugandans. The Kenyan route is there top preferred route. Their Arema railway is of inferior quality compared to Chinese class 1 SGR. We are nearer to Suez Canal than Tanzania,we have a much bigger port than Tanzania. Our route is shorter going to Uganda compared to the Tanzanian one. It would be mad for the Ugandans to want to link their railway with Tz. kikuyu1: Once and for all,we're not and have never been jealous of Tz! You can build your SGR to Uranus if you want-in the 254 we honestly don't give an eff and worry about our own ishyt. You're convinced a railway to Rwanda,Ug and Burundi can make money-carrying who/what cargo? Anyway, carry on! |

This was so informative! Mkenya2019: Comparing kenya and TZ - is like comparing Kenya and Nigeria. It's like day and night.
TZ went Ethiopia way - they went for Class 2 - electrified railway. Ethiopia have been in operation for 3-4yrs and it's huge mess. Their electric trains stall mid-way every often because of erratic power supply. They are still one one or two trains from Addis to Djiboutti. It has no hope of repaying the loan...and they already asked Chinese for debt relief..they were given more time to repay.
Now Kenya has - again - some of the most QUALIFIED engineers, architect and designers - and policy wonks - you can think about.
We thought about all those issues. And we settled for Class 1 (heavy load) railway that is diesel-run - but with an option to electrify in the future - and the results - Kenya SGR is about to break even. We are doing 4 passengers trains and 28 cargo trains - 1 year in operations. In exactly 2yrs operations - Kenya has already surpassed it's 5th year projection.
Now Ethiopia is generally better in decision making than Tanzania and Nigeria.
Nigeria SGR of course is very sad story. Enough said of that.
Let try Tanzania. They are building brown-field (kenya is green-field - entirely new) electrified SGR from Dar to it's hinterland. It financed 50% by internal fund and 50% by commercial loan (CRAZY from South Africa's Stanchart bank. TZ main city is Dar - just like Nigeria - Lagos - nearly 60% of all cargo terminate at Dar. The railway will be just for transporting passengers and has no chance of in hell of breaking even in 30yrs. Unless they some minerals to ferry from the hinterland....there is little cargo that Rwanda or Burundi can do.
Tanzania is basically building the railway as competition against Kenya. They never thought through and they will of course be asking for debt forgiveness when StanChart squeeze their balls.
Kenya as always makes smart decisions. We have refused to extend the railway at China terms because it's doesn't make economic sense - China wants the railway to get to Congo - and they should fund it.
The cost variable - has been explained severally - Kenya is class 1, it's also green-field, it also include rolling stock, has several animal corridors - and when all that is factored it's competitively priced
Ugandans did comparison of the 3 - and choose the kenyan one.
Here is Uganda comparison...Kenya vs Tanzania vs Ethiopa.
