004gist:

Pls i have a serious issue
I have a site hosted on wa_pka everything was working well then suddenly it stops opening on opera mini since last week. But open on other browsers.
I guess it's the dns server of wa_pka that's having an issue with opera mini which is
Ns1.wa_pka.mobi
Ns2.wa_pka.mobi
Because it happened last year and I changed the dns to cloudflare.com dns server after registring my site with cloudflare.com.
But now I tried doing same on cloudflare.com but it didn't work again.

Any solution or dns server I can point to to enable the site accessible because now all site hosted on wa_pka is not opening on opera mini

Is the site still pointing to cloudflare?
Webmasters / Re: Help On Charging Advertisers For Ads Placement On My Blog by Jose213(m): 12:53pm On Jan 28, 2017
There is no single calculation that will tell you the exact right price to charge advertisers that want to place ads on your blog.

However, there are some rules of thumb and baseline calculations that you can use to get started. The real science of calculating the right online advertising rates comes through experimentation.
The truth is there are a lot of factors that affect the amount you should charge for online advertising on your blog.

The type of ad (image, video, text, and so on) can affect the price as well as placement and the payment structure (for example, pay-per-click vs. pay-per-impression vs. flat rate).
For example, ads placed above the fold should cost more than ads below the fold, but the challenge is finding the right price to maximize earnings. In other words, what is the right price to charge for each type of ad you'll publish on your blog and in each possible location where those ads can be displayed to visitors?

The sweet spot for your ad pricing is the price that keeps ad space filled without undervaluing that space. A popular method for calculating blog advertising rates is to divide the number of daily visitors to your blog that could see the ad by ten.

Your calculation would look like this:

1000 ÷ 10 =$100 Flat 30-Day Advertising.

It's important to understand that the value of your audience could affect ad pricing, too. For example, a blog with a highly targeted and desirable niche audience that advertisers want to connect with could demand a premium advertising rate from those advertisers.

Furthermore, your audience's propensity to click on ads can also affect advertising rates.

For example, if your audience tends not to click on ads, you need to factor that into your pricing model.
Don't Undervalue or Overvalue Your Blog
It's important to price advertising space on your blog as close to that aforementioned sweet spot as possible.

However, until you identify what that sweet spot is, it can be easy to fall into the trap of undervaluing or overvaluing your blog.
Undervaluing your blog advertising space might keep that space filled and guarantee that you'll continue to earn money from that space, but it also means you won't make as much as you realistically could earn from that space. Furthermore, undervaluing your ad space creates a perception in advertisers' minds that your blog is worth less than it really is. You want advertisers to perceive your blog as offering a good value for the money without seeming cheap.

Overvaluing your blog advertising space could keep you from selling all of your ad space each month. Furthermore, it might create perceptions in advertisers' minds that their ads will be seen frequently and your audience is very receptive to ads. If the results of the ad campaigns they pay for on your blog don't meet their expectations, they won't advertise on your blog again.

That means lost future revenue for you.

Another important step in calculating advertising rates for your blog is to analyze what your competitors are doing. Find other blogs with similar audiences and traffic levels as yours and check out their advertising rate sheets. Visit an online advertising provider website like BuySellAds.com where you can quickly research advertising rates on a variety of blogs.

Use all of this information to determine the best rates to charge for online advertising on your blog, and be prepared to adjust those rates as you test different ad formats, placements, and so on.

Webmasters / Re: Paying For Page Views- Is It Worth It? by Jose213(m): 2:04am On Jan 28, 2017
One thing about those cheap page views is that they come from low quality countries and of course non targeted people who are not interested at all with what you have to say.

An example is adfly who will deliver you thousands of visitors for only $5 but guess what?
You might not get a conversion at all!!!
And no.....Google can't ban you for not getting most of your visitors organically.

I hear about this problem on a regular basis. Unfortunately, pageviews don’t pay the bills. Purchases/Conversions do.
If you’re struggling and want to improve your conversion rates, you should look beyond the traditional CRO recommendations and A/B testing recommendations for bottlenecks.

Webmasters / Re: How Can I Start A Blog by Jose213(m): 12:29pm On Jan 26, 2017
upuphim:
@Jose213. What is added to make one start earning from the blog because I only knew about adsense account that goes with per click.

There are 2 Types of Blogging Income:

1.Low Maintenance Passive Income –

This is really the most ideal type of income because it can provide you and your family with freedom. This is most often recurring passive income streams that you can enjoy. This type of money happens without your personal involvement. It is scale-able.

Meaning that you can earn money without exchanging time for money in the moment. Some examples would include Google Adsense (or any paid for clicks campaign), membership sites, selling advertisement space, affiliate marketing sales, and even ebook sales.

If you can get paid for something while you are sleeping and it does not require you to exchange future time for money, then you have a low maintenance passive income stream.

The individual transactions are smaller but they happen more often and don’t require your time. Every morning when I wake up I can log into my Google Adsense account and see that I made money while I was sleeping.

2. Personal Involvement High Income –

The idea with this strategy is that if something involves your personal time, it should cost more. After all, your time should be valuable to you, right?
If you offer personal consulting for your niche you should charge what your personal time is worth to you. It also matters the type of reach that you are able to get as well.

For example, you do not have to charge as much for a webinar with 100 participants as you might with a personal consultation. You would charge even more for live speaking events as well.

The ideal strategy would be to set up low maintenance passive income streams that meet your household budget, so that you can spend your time in higher income events that require personal involvement.
Each have their benefits.
Passive income streams allow you to enjoy the freedom to use your time how you choose. Personal involvement income ideas allow you to interact with others and make a difference in other people.

I totally disagree with you.
all the topics you've mentioned above are stand alones.
Even though blogging is tech,it's a very big mistake combining it in a tech blog reviewing phones,or giving tutorials on softwares and applications.
...simply because you will have two difference audiences on your blog whom in no way share the same interests.

A visitor gets to your site so as to read your latest tutorial in rooting Htc M1 and just before commenting on your post,they see..."Related:How to get more traffic to your blog"........Trust me the visitor will never come back not because they did not get what they were lookung for..but because they see that you dont know exactly whom your audience is....unless you want to be a general blog site which is not the best route to take as solo blogger.

How pleased are you with your blog right now?

If you’ve been looking after it, you’ve been posting new content regularly and you like the look and feel of it, it’s likely that that question will lead to a favourable response.

Our blogs are a bit like friends; they work with us, help us out promoting our business, and open the door to new connections and conversations with like-minded people online.

So, if I said that there are probably ten reasons right now why your blog isn’t that great, would you believe me?

Well Read on!

#1 – Your blog is speaking a foreign language

When it comes to SEO, there’s a critical rule of thumb for keywords that gets the search engines noticing your blog.
If you don’t know what keywords your customers are using to find you, and your blog isn’t using them too in your content, you may as well be trying to speak japanese to a UK Yorkshire customer.

Make sure you match your content to the words your clients are using.

#2 – Your blog is being totally random

Do you have a really clear idea of what keywords you should be using?

If not, all the effort you spend posting up new content could be for nothing. Use Google’s keyword tool to make sure your content is targeted and on track.

#3 – Your blog rambles on like a drunk uncle at a family wedding

If you’re not using those keywords you’ve found often enough, by focussing your writing to pick them up naturally, Google won’t be able to hear you when you shout.

Make sure that your content is geared around these search terms to help get your blog noticed.

#4 – Your blog is repetitive

Having covered off #3, it’s also important to remember that your content needs to be real, informative, original and engaging to keep your customers happy.
It’s no good posting up pages that just repeat the same keyword phrases again and again – make sure that when you write, you’re producing valid, interesting knowledge that will support your clients and keep them coming back for more.

#5 – Your blog collar and cuffs don’t match

A terrible faux pas for any self-respecting blog is posting up headlines and titles that don’t have anything to do with your main keyword and the content of your post.

Make sure that the headings you use reflect the keywords you’re focussing on, as these sections of your post are the ones the search engines value most.

#6 – Your images aren’t being used to their full advantage

When you put a description by your image, it helps search engines read what the image is about.

This is a canny way of getting them to use more of your published content, so use the Alt text option and pop a caption with each graphic you use.

#7 – Your blog is antisocial

If you link to other blogs online, you’ll gain a few benefits.
The main one is that you develop a network of like-minded people to return the favour.

Secondly, search engines like to see you linking to other sites to boost the value of your own.

#8 – Your blog is shallow

When you publish a post, it’s not enough to simply rely on the article itself to get you out there being noticed.
If you forget to populate your blog post meta description, you’re missing out on one of the most valuable SEO tools you have available.

Add keywords to make sure you get the best out of every new article you publish, every time.

#9 – Your blog is shy

If you don’t have URLs that are easy for search engines to categorise and locate, your blog could be accused of hiding away from the limelight.
Use simple, recognisable keywords for the title and URL of each post to make sure you’re helping people to find your latest article easily.

#10 – Your blog is rude

If you have spelling errors, capitals, too many sales pitches, pointless content or any other of the main flaws in your site, your blog will be dismissed by your customers in favour of more polite sites!
Make sure you check all of your posts before you publish, using the ten reminders above, before you push the submit button, to keep your blog being friendly, polite, useful and loved by your clients!

Webmasters / Re: What Is The Difference Between Vps Hosting, Cloud Hosting And Dedicated Server by Jose213(m): 4:24pm On Jan 23, 2017
A VPS server is literally split into as many parts as there are users. If there are 10 users, 10GB of RAM and 200GB of hard drive spave on the server, each user will be able expend 1GB of RAM and 20GB of space. Once you hit the RAM limit your site may go down, but the others will remain stable. The hypervisor is the one responsible for managing the virtual machines that create this separation within the server.
This simple addition removes almost all of the bad neighbour effect. Extremely rarely there can be some issues which affect multiple users by affecting the hypervisor itself, but this isn’t something you need to worry about.

Dedicated hosting is the hosting service that negates all bad neighbour issues because you are all alone on a server. This provides a host of benefits, but also comes with quite a few downsides.
Since you get a computer all on your own, many companies allow you to customise it extensively. You may be able to choose the amount and type of memory, the OS to install, and other hardware elements that make up a computer. This gives you a lot of flexibility which may be needed for some specialised software.

Cloud hosting is essentially the same as VPS hosting. Some companies don’t even call their service VPS anymore, the say Cloud or Cloud VPS.

Cloud based computing is similar to how utilities work. If I plug my video camera into the mains I can use it as much as I need and it will take as much power as it requires at the moment. If it is on standby it will use very little power, when it is recording it will use a lot more but the electric system can handle the changes in power requirements.
Cloud based hosting allows you to use the resources of multiple servers in a network. This makes it even more scalable, in addition to providing a host of additional benefits, mainly based around security.

What do you mean tech has no much traffic?

Do you know tech is in the top 5 categories in terms of traffic and revenue.

My best advice would be go fully tech since its so diverse or go with another niche fully.

Once you start ranking up on google for certain keywords,believe me you will notice a big change.

Also use free tools like Semrush to check on how your site is fairing.....I have a tech blog(not the one in my signature)....and according to semrush,it ranks no 7 for the term 'weird google tricks' and guess what.....i receive tremendous amount of traffic from just that position!!!

BARE WITH ME......THIS IS GONNA BE LOOOOOOOONNG!!

To succeed with SEO in 2017 you need trust.
Trust is the core component of Google’s relevancy-oriented search. Without trust, you’re simply not relevant. Yet, building trust is a double-edged sword and somewhat of a catch-22.

For newcomers, especially, gaining visibility without trust has become incredibly difficult.

However, without visibility, how are people supposed to garner those all-important shares and links to your content? If someone can’t discover your article, how are they supposed to engage with it and like it enough to send it to their friends or share it on social media? Clearly, in the beginning, the odds are stacked up against us. But there is a way forward.

Trust is most certainly the pathway to Google’s heart, if there ever was such a thing. And by leveraging this understanding of trust, we can succeed with SEO to make money online , build passive income streams and build a successful business in the long term — as long as we play by Google’s many rules.

At the core of Google’s relevancy equation, trust itself is created through three fundamental pillars. Within those three pillars, there are more than 200 different factors that help to comprise the search giant’s core algorithms. Once you understand these fundamental pillars, you can work on building up your trust across each of these areas.

But before I launch into a discussion about that — and convey some of the strategies that will allow you to explode your presence by using the inherent power of search engine optimization — let me give you a bit of history. You see, the reason why it’s so difficult to dominate Google’s search results is because the search engine has been scorned once too often.

As Google’s search grew over the years and turned into the dominant player that it is today, people realized the importance of ranking high organically. Clearly, the near-limitless amount of free traffic can send any business into the stratosphere. Everyone knows that, and because of it, everyone is drawn to it.

Yet, over time, as people understood how the system worked, they began to take advantage of certain less-than-scrupulous strategies that allowed them to rank their content quickly at the top of Google’s search.

These weren’t the most relevant search results, which enraged Google. Because of that, Google knew things had to change.

As an upshot, SEO has seen some dramatic upheavals in recent years at the behest of Google and its core mission to cultivate an internet to wield more inherent value for the global populous.

And while things have calmed down recently, the last five years has seen a massive overhaul in the way Google determines what the most relevant search result is.

Before you can really understand what it takes to rocket up Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) in 2017, you have to digest what’s changed. The reason? The changes are integral to the bigger picture and just what Google’s intentions are with the web.

Google’s main aim is to deliver the most relevant search result in the quickest manner possible. Clearly, it’s perfected that. So much so that it digitally obliterated its competition, vastly skewing the major market share towards its powerful search, while making the company a household name in the process.

The algorithm updates that have been put in play have gone by names like Panda, Penguin, and more recently, Hummingbird, amongst droves of others. These algorithm updates have been intended to improve the user experience, eliminate spam and scams, and to increase the overall relevancy of search.

By understanding what’s changed, you can gain perspective into Google’s intentions on what it’s attempting to achieve. It desires content that helps to improve the lives of others, delivers value and that users want to engage with.
Those are the most relevant search results. That’s what Google is after. But for years, it got quite the opposite.
It dealt with unscrupulous individuals attempting to “game” the system.
And if you fail to address each of these pillars of trust, you’ll find yourself floundering in a sea of competition, unable to gain the precious visibility that you’re after.

1. Age;

Age is more than a number. Google relies on its relationship with you over time to judge just how much it can trust you. The longer it’s known about you and the more often it sees you creating high-quality content that delivers tremendous amounts of value, the more it’s going to trust you.

Age also doesn’t rely on the date you first purchased your domain. Age refers to the indexed age, meaning when Google actually discovered your domain. If you buy a domain and leave it dormant for years, that won’t help you. You have to actually do something with it.

2. Authority;

The second pillar of trust is authority. Google relies on other sites that it already trusts to determine what newcomers should be trusted. If you have a site with great content, and other websites that Google already trusts are linking to you organically, your trust will naturally increase over time.
However, building authority is incredibly difficult at the outset. When you’re new, and you’re unable to get discovered at the top of Google’s SERPs, how are people supposed to find you and subsequently link to you? Unless you quite literally go viral, you have a steep uphill battle ahead of you, but authority is also incredibly important to your overall ability to rank.

3. Content;

The third underlying component of trust is content. Your content plays a large role in your visibility on Google’s SERPs. Simply put, you can’t push out subpar content and expect to gain traction. Your content has to deliver enormous amounts of value if you’re serious about attaining the search giant’s attention.

But it’s not just about one-off content. You need to regularly deliver great content on your site, the kind that people want to share and engage with. Without great content, you have nothing, and no matter what SEO strategy you employ, it will fail.

No one will link to a site with poor content. Don’t waste your time by trying to cut corners or take shorcuts. Content is most certainly still king.

Beyond these three pillars of trust, there are more than 200 ranking factors that are involved in Google’s search. These ranking factors run the gamut from obvious to obscure.

For example, one such ranking factor is just how long remains before your domain name expires. The rationale is that domains that are registered for a short period — such as a year — are more likely fly-by-night sites.

The longer the domain is registered for, the more likely it’s going to be to stick around. While this is a small relevancy signal, it just goes to show you some of the obscurity involved in ranking factors of Google’s algorithms.

Strategy 1 — Market your content;

One of the most important SEO strategies to use in 2017 is content marketing. At the heart of this strategy is high-quality content that delivers a tremendous amount of value. This so-called “anchor content” is located on your website. However, it doesn’t end there.

You need to market that content on authority sites such as Quora, Reddit, WiseLike, LinkedIn and other highly-trafficked destinations on the web.

Engaging in content marketing is not easy by any measure, but this single SEO strategy will help you rocket just about any of your listings to the top of Google’s SERPs over time, as long as it’s done the right way.

To do this, there’s a very specific method. You have to ensure that you build similar and relevant content that’s keyword specific on authority sites such as Medium.com, LinkedIn.com and Quora.com, and that the content has a single link from the authority site back to the main anchor content on your primary domain.

Strategy 2 — Improve page speed;

The page speed of your site has a big influence on the user’s experience. Slow-loading pages take away from the user experience, while fast-loading pages help to add to it.

Google is acutely concerned with the user’s overall experience, and improving the page speed is one such way you can drastically improve that experience.

Use tools such as Google’s Page Speed,
GTMetrix or Varvy’s Page Speed Tool to run insights and gain suggestions on how to improve your site’s page speed. If you’re not technically savvy, you might need to enlist the help of a web developer to optimize your site’s page speed.

Strategy 3 — Focus on mobile and AMP;

Google has made a concerted push to mobile. Considering that mobile searches are now far surpassing desktop searches, it’s no wonder the search giant is so focused on mobile.

However, most people are still behind the curve when it comes to mobile. Their sites load properly on desktop browsers, but not on mobile devices or even tablets.

Leverage a responsive design for your site, if you presently don’t have one right now, to ensure that your site is optimized for mobile devices. Google has also recently launched its Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) project, which further increases mobile load times.

Strategy 4 — Leverage the power of videos;

Whether it’s 2017, or any other year for that matter, every SEO strategy needs the power of video marketing. Videos take your content into the stratosphere due to the popularity of video platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo.

Creating useful tutorials and other informative videos are also a great way to deliver real value to people in a multimedia format that’s easily accessible to anyone with a smartphone camera.

Build relevant videos to further deliver the point made in a particular article on your site, and ensure that the description is keyword rich — but not keyword stuffed.

Leverage elements such as the title and tags to fuse the keyword-centric nature of your video content.

Strategy 5 — Be social and engage with others;

Authority is built up over time, but it also can’t be built up unless you’re social and you engage with others. In the beginning, they won’t come to you. In fact, what you’ve likely noticed is that it’s incredibly hard to rank any content at the outset.

That’s because most newcomers have very little age and very little authority. So you have to get out there and build it.
This isn’t just about sharing your content repeatedly with others. You can’t simply cheerlead your own cause and expect to get ahead. You need to be social, add value to conversations, follow others and take an interest in what those people are doing if you want them to take an interest in you.

First of all, i want you to understand that creating a blog is not as daunting as many people think...or tell you...In fact, by following the step-by-step instructions in this guide, you will be able to set up and make your own blog, avoiding pitfalls and missteps that hinder some novices (no technical skills needed).

I hope that by building your own blog you will gain knowledge, friendships, support, confidence or turn blogging into a lucrative business.

Ready? Let’s get to it!

Five easy steps to starting a blog:

1.Choose a blogging platform

2.Pick a domain name

3.Get a web hosting account

4.Install blogging software and set up a blog.

5.Select a blog design and layout

Choosing a blogging platform;

At this stage, you’ll need to determine the type of blog management platform/tool you want to use.I recommend that you set up your blog on one of the self-hosted platforms. But before you make that decision, let me describe each option. When it comes to starting your blog you have the following options:
free, freemium and self-hosted (recommended) platforms.

Free platforms;

95.56%

Blogger 4.06%

Ghost 0.1%

Tumblr 0.06%

Svbtle 0.01%

For many new bloggers, the availability of free blogging platforms such as Blogger or Tumblr is tempting. Of course, there is one big benefit, it's free. But you need to understand that having a blog name in this form—yourname..com or yourname.tumblr.com, is the sign of an inexperienced beginner who likely won't be taken seriously.

By keeping your blog on a free platform, you let the platform own your name. You’ll be subject to their rules and restrictions, they may limit or prohibit ads on your blog, or they may even place their own ads on your blog.

If you're serious about blogging, you’ll want to move away from this option.

Freemium platforms;

Freemium means you’ll have a trial period before you have to start paying (costs vary from $5 to $30 per month). Several platforms are available. One of the most popular is TypePad. This platform focuses on ease of use for writing, but customization options are limited and it lacks certain features of value to bloggers.

By default, your TypePad blog name will look like this: yourname.typepad.com. It's not always the best option if you’re trying to build the name and brand for your blog. However you could point your own domain (purchased through any domain registrar) to a TypePad blog. To get your new self-hosted blog started, you need to decide on two important things: a domain name and a web hosting provider.

Picking a domain name;

Your domain name will be the name by which you will be known online for no matter what niche you choose.

It’s the unique address of your blog on the Internet. Your domain will be yours as long as you continue paying the annual fee ($10 to $15 for a .com domain). Users who know your domain/URL (uniform resource locator) can simply type it into their browser's address bar. Others will be able to discover your blog through search engines such as Google and Bing, so you definitely need to find a unique name.

Your domain name may be the highly popular "dot com" or it may be country or niche specific. From .co.ke (Kenya), .us (United Sates) to .co.uk (United Kingdom) and from .guru (yes, for life coaches) to .sport (for sports related domains), these top level domains (TLDs) are added to any domain name in order to point to their location. In the end, it's about being memorable, so if a different extension or country code helps you be memorable, then break the rules!

Geting a web hosting account;

After choosing a domain name, selecting reliable hosting services will be one of the most important decisions you make. To a great extent, the functionality and performance of your blog will depend on your hosting provider. The host makes sure your blog is available 24/7 to potential readers and it’s where your files are stored online.

Most hosting companies also offer domain registration services. Some people like me keep their domain name with the registrar company, separate from the hosting account. web hosting The wrong web host can cause many problems with your blog. Just imagine choosing a mobile company that has no reception. Your web host is a major piece of the puzzle to maintaining a successful blog, therefore, it’s crucial that you choose a reliable provider.

Self-hosted platforms;

Self-hosted platforms allow you to run a blog on your own domain. Aside from following your domain registrar and web hosting company's rules, you’re fully in charge of your blog and its contents. You have a number of choices when it comes to a self-hosted blog system (also knowj as a Content Management System or CMS). One of the best and most well-known self-hosted content management systems (CMS) is WordPress.org, powering 25.4% of all websites in the world and responsible for over 76.5 million blogs, which is recommended by 99% of the blogging experts.

Start Setting Up a Blog:

Step 1;

You should start by selecting your hosting plan on a reputable company. If this is your very first one, you should go with the basic plan which should be able to cover all your needs & once you get your blog going,consider upgrading your account.

step 2;

Pick a good domain name that can be remembered. Your domain name has an important say when it comes to the future success of your blog, and so you should take your time to come up with something new.

step 3;

Go to your hosting account & Once you’re logged in, you’re ready to install WordPress. Under the website section, you should be able to see a WordPress icon. Once you click install, you will be taken to a short WordPress description, after which it will be required from you to type in your username, site title and password, Once you check and double check every letter you have entered is correct, click “install now” and the installation After your installation is complete, you will receive an email about your credentials, after which you can browse through various themes and templates in order to find the one according to your needs.

step 4;

After Wordpress is installed, the first thing your blog needs is a face (design and layout). The design of your blog can be easily changed with Themes. The default theme that comes with your WordPress blog installed is Twenty Sixteen—while it's a good starter theme, you could select a theme that is more unique to your blog and compatible with your niche.

Choose a theme that looks great, but also works for your unique content needs. Your readers will first notice the overall appearance of the blog, before even taking a look at the content.

Congratulations! you now have your own domain name, hosting space and your blog is set up. Next, you will need to get familiar with the Wordpress dashboard, learn how to make desired changes to your blog, start your content creation and promotion in order to become a successful blogger. Otherwise happy blogging!!!!!"

Stay away from Mifihost & Betahost247 like a plague if you really care about your site.
This two so called 'Hosts' are resellers and thats the worst thing you want...going for a middleman.

Choose reputable hosts whi have their own data centers like GreenGeeks,SiteGround..etc...etc

as i write this post,my site has received a 24hr suspension from a certain reseller host and my advice is run away from anything called a reseller....RUN.....my friend....RUUUUNNNNNNN....

Webmasters / 4 Dumb SEO Strategies That Might Get Your Site Penalized by Jose213(m): 12:48pm On Jan 21, 2017

Is your SEO provider about to get you penalized? Hopefully not, but there is a chance it might. It is too easy to put up a website and advertise SEO services without actually knowing what they are doing.

There are also marketers out there who don’t keep up with Google best practices and are still using old methods which am sorry to say are ineffective.

If you have never been hit with a Google penalty, let me just tell you it is an experience like no other. Your heart falls into your stomach, you become short on breath and your eyes start to hurt from staring at your computer screen wondering what the hell happened?

It’s not a good feeling and one that you never want to experience. Even worse, when potential clients or partners look you up on Google and see you’ve been penalized, kiss your reputation goodbye.

As you plan your SEO strategy for the year 2017, here are four things to watch out for. If any of these are happening, there is a good chance you are on your way to a Google penalty.

1. Linking to your homepage;

First, there is nothing wrong with including homepage links into your backlink strategy. However, it must be done the right way.
Some people still believe that acquiring more links to the homepage of your website will help that website rank higher.

Those people are still living in 2005.
Google doesn’t rank websites. It ranks pages. That is why you need to link to quality content within your website and not the homepage….Got it?

A sure sign that your provider is doing things wrong is if they link your homepage to an exact match keyword. For instance, linking the term “SEO provider” to the homepage of an actual SEO provider.

Exact Match Anchor Text + Homepage Link = Road Leading to Google Penalty

Homepage links are fine if they are done naturally. The only “natural” way I see homepage links is if it is branded (e.g., the article is talking about a specific company and links to the homepage of that company) or a quote that links to the homepage of the person giving it (even this is iffy as some black-hat marketers are oversaturating Google links from quotes).

If you only have a homepage and product landing pages on your website, it is time to start reevaluating your marketing plan. Start a blog and generate quality content that people want to read. This is the only way to ensure quality links to your site.

2. Link farms and wheels;

A link farm is nothing more than a series of websites set up by an SEO provider for the purpose of creating backlinks to specific sites. They are created using free platforms such as WordPress or Blogger and really have no value other than trying to manipulate search results.

A link wheel is when a marketer links to a money article (your website) from others. The articles linking to the money site are then linked from other articles which also link to the money site.

Try not to discredit link wheels right off the bat. Some SEO specialists are able to use link wheels without incorporating link farms. This can still be an effective method of backlinking and also occurs naturally with high quality content.

When an SEO provider is able to acquire a backlink for you, ask if they own the property where the link originates. If so, it is likely a link farm.

When an SEO provider says they use link wheels, ask them if they are using link farms or if they are engaging in white-hat link wheel tactics.

3. Linking from penalized websites;

You never want to be linked from a website that is sandboxed by Google. These sites are sandboxed for a reason and having links from them will not do you any favors with Google.

You want links from sites that are trusted by Google, not penalized by them.
Ask your SEO provider how it determines which sites to acquire links from. Then ask how it vetted that site. If the company uses sites such as Pixelgroove or
Moz , you are likely in good hands.

I want to point out that although penalty checkers can give you a good indication of a penalty, only webmasters know if they have been penalized. Notification of manual actions are provided to webmasters through Google Webmaster Tools.

I recommend getting a full list of links that have been acquired and do your own independent check.

You should also have your provider supply you with a list of websites for link acquisition in case there are any on there you want to vet before moving forward.

4. Buying links;

Oh boy..you should never purchase links. This is a violation of Google policies and is one of the top reasons websites get sandboxed. Links should come naturally and can be accomplished through valid link acquisition strategies.

So what is a valid link acquisition strategy?
There are many guides out there with white-hat link building methods, but basically it involves outreach. You must find link opportunities and then reach out to those properties and suggest your link.

Some SEO companies are outsourcers. They get your business and then go to Upwork or another freelance website and buy links at a discount to what they charge you. So now you are putting your website in the hands of a third-party who you never hired in the first place.

Long story short, buying links means you are entering the room of black-hat marketers. You will likely end up with links that violate all the issues highlighted herein.

You will have some that use exact match anchor text to homepages, some that use link farms, and others that will link from websites that are already penalized by Google. All of which are things you want to avoid in the first place.

Check with your provider and make sure they are acquiring links for you using white-hat methods, including incorporating link diversity techniques. Any method that uses link buying should be discontinued immediately.

Anything else?

These are just four of the methods I think are most important. Many SEO providers still use these methods. Why spend your money on an “expert” when in the end they will get you de-listed in search rankings instead of ranking you higher?

The SEO landscape is continuously
changing , making it increasingly difficult to know what not to do. There are plenty of other methods that I did not cover that will likely get you penalized. I would love to hear the ones you feel are important to avoid.

Webmasters / Top 3 Tools To Spy On Your Competitor’s Keywords by Jose213(m): 12:36pm On Jan 21, 2017

If we talk about website optimization , keyword research is an essential part for both PPC marketing and search engine optimization success.

The internet is choke full of articles by search marketing experts who tell you that it is necessary to optimize your site for the terms that people are actually searching for.

But when it comes to finding those terms and turning them into profitable keywords, this whole process is no easy feat. You have to put a huge effort to prepare a robust keywords list for your website.

But here’s the thing…

Keyword research doesn’t have to be that hard. Especially, when you’re in a market where there are lots of your competitors already ranking well on search engines, you can easily find keywords that are guaranteed to bring you traffic.

But How? …. you may ask.

By spying on your top competitors and uncovering their targeted keywords.
In this post, I’m going to share with you three easy-to-use tools that can help you do exactly that with just a few clicks.

3 tools to uncover your competitor’s keywords.
Before I share the tools with you, it’s important to know which of your competitors are performing well on search engines.

A simple Google search will help you find out. Just search your primary keyword on Google (e.g. If you offer online business consulting, type in “Online business consultant”) and you’ll get a list of a handful of your competitors. Pick at least five companies from the first page and you’re good to go.

Now that you have the list of your top competitors, here are the tools you can use to uncover their keywords with simple steps:

1. Webbee SEO Spider (Free + Paid).

Webbee is the world’s most inclusive SEO spider that helps you analyze your website architecture to understand and monitor technical SEO issues.
Now, this tool has a key feature called “Keyword Intelligence Mode”, which helps you audit keywords on your website. It shows you keyword conflicts on Links, Titles and Headings.

The upside here, though, is that you can use it to find your competitor’s keywords too.

Follow these steps to find your competitor’s keywords using Webbee SEO Spider:

Download and install the tool on your system.
Put your competitor’s website under “Keyword Intelligence” mode and hit start.
Get search volume for these keywords from Google Keyword Planner and filter out the best and most relevant keywords to target on your website.
That’s it.

2. SEMRush (Paid).

SEMrush is the online research tool for online marketing professionals. It can help you find out how your competitors are performing on search engines. You can use this tool to identify the organic and paid keywords of your competitors.

Here are the steps you need to follow:
Go to SEMRush.com and insert your competitor’s website URL in the bar.

Filter your results by clicking on “Top Organic Keywords”. It will show you the list of keywords with their current rankings.

Download the list of those keywords, filter out the relevant ones and use them to optimize your website. Using the same process, you can also download the keywords that your competitors are using for paid marketing (Google Adwords).

3. Ahrefs (Paid).

Ahrefs, like SEMRush, is an online tool that allows you to find out your competitor keywords.
Here are the steps you can follow:

Login to Ahrefs.com
Navigate to Site Explorer
Enter your competitor’s website URL and hit search.

Now click on “Organic Keywords” section and you will see the list of keywords with latest rankings.
Simply export these keywords and filter out the best keywords for your website and optimize your site accordingly.

With the combination of these three tools you can prepare a great list of profitable keywords.

For more keywords that people are searching, you can also use Google Keyword planner. It can help increase the soundness of your list.

Next, use these keywords to optimize your website. The better you optimize, the better your results will be in terms of impressions, ranking and traffic.
