Barely three weeks after the Bayelsa State House of Assembly approved N2.9 billion loan for Governor Douye Diri to purchase operational vehicles for principal officers; he is expecting agriculture loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for farmers in the state. Governor Douye Diri, who disclosed this when representatives of 24 political parties under the aegis of the state chapter of the Inter-Party Council (IPAC) visited him at the Government House, Yenagoa, said the loan facility would promote farming and other agricultural activities in the state. Diri was sworn-in on February 14, 2020, following the Supreme Court judgment that ousted the former governor-elect, Chief David Lyon due to multiple names in the credentials of his deputy, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

The Acting Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Daniel Alabrah in a statement on Sunday said that Governor Diri has vowed not to play politics with the loan, stressing that stringent measures would be put in place to ensure that only farmers are the beneficiaries. He advised the political class to steer clear of the CBN loan, noting that politicians that own farms were qualified to obtain it.

He said the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources would go round the state to verify farmers and their claims before disbursing the loan, saying the primary target is to promote food sufficiency and diversification of the local economy through production to boost the internally generated revenue. He said: “We have been moving for the CBN agriculture loan. Very soon it will come to us. I’m sure in the next one week we will have it.”

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has declared dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II as a global citizen who is well connected and known all over the world. El-Rufai, who was in Awe on Friday, said he came to show solidarity to the deposed emir. He attended the Friday prayer in Awe, which was led by Sanusi II. “His Highness Sanusi is a global citizen. I am here to show solidarity,” he said.

El-Rufai and Sanusi II left Awe for Lafia on Friday. The dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II regained his freedom, few hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered his immediate release. The deposed Emir was taken to Awe in Nassarwa state after his dethronement by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state. He was dethroned over alleged disrespect to the office of the governor and other government agencies.

The 14th emir of Kano was hours after his removal banished to Nasarawa State, a development that elicited outcry from different quarters. Sanusi II, on Thursday instituted a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order for his release from detention and confinement. Also, lawyers and civil society groups have continued mounting pressure on the federal and Kano State governments to allow the dethroned emir enjoy his freedom.

In a fundamental rights enforcement application filed by his lawyers led by Lateef Fagbemi, Prof. Konyinsola Ajayi and Abubakar Mahmoud, all Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), Sanusi sought for two reliefs: “An interim order releasing him from detention and/or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the Applicant’s Originating Motion.” Respondents in the suit include the Inspector General of Police, the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS), Attorney General of Kano State and the Attorney General of the Federation.

The application was brought under sections 34, 35, 40, 41 and 46 of the Nigerian Constitution, and Articles 5, 6, 10, 12(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act Cap A9 LFN 2010 and Order IV Rules 3 and 4 of the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009.

Dr Femi Aina of Ayoola Hospital, Kilanko, Ilorin, has called for caution in the careless handling of phones, keys and naira notes in the face of spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19). Aina said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Friday, while reacting to the confirmation of the second case of the global pandemic disease in the country According to him, these items are capable of carrying germs which can lead to infection, noting that most people handle phones even while eating. He said that people often carry phones, keys and naira notes in their hands and unconsciously with the same hands take up food to eat.

“You see the way we use phones is becoming habitual, some carry their phones to the toilet, to the dining table, kitchen and the likes. “And while they are there, they keep touching the phones and cook or eat at the same time. “The same goes for our keys, we carry them at intervals, but we hardly disinfect our keys and it is dangerous. “As much as we practice good hygiene, we must be careful with these three things, because they are capable of carrying germs and infections,” he said.

The doctor however advised that keys be disinfected regularly by washing in disinfectants, and for phones, one should dip a clean cotton in disinfectant water and squeeze dry to clean a phone’s outer surface. He also urged the public to always have handy sanitizers that contain alcohol for use at intervals in order to prevent being infected with Covid-19. (NAN)

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, says N6.71trn to fully implement the second National Health Plan within the five years. He stated this in Abuja yesterday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services and Institutions. He said the implementation of the plan was to reduce maternal mortality rate from the current 576 to 400 per 100,000 live birth of children under five. He described the plan as a strategic healthcare system development system aimed at addressing the most basic challenges especially the primary healthcare system and other levels.

Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to review disciplinary actions taken by the embattled National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee against some party members. The governors, under the auspices of Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) stated this in a memo written through their Director-General, Salihu Lukman, entitled: “Disciplinary Actions by Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC: Why APC must be Rule-Based” and made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja.

Daily Trust reports that the party has scheduled emergency NEC meeting for Tuesday March 17, 2020 and the President, Muhammadu Buhari, who is regarded as a father of the party, is expected to be present. While Oshiomhole-led NWC had suspended Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, Deputy National Chairman (North), Alh. Inuwa Abdulkadir, National Vice Chairman (North West), was alleged to have been suspended by his Magajin Gari, “A” Ward, Sokoto North Local Government of Sokoto State over alleged anti-party activities. Former governors of Ogun, Imo States and governor of Ondo State, Ibikunle Amosun, Rochas Okorocha and Rotimi Akeredolu respectively and two others were also suspended over alleged anti-party activities before they were reinstated. But Lukman urged NEC of the party to make APC rule-based with a view to laying solid foundation for the resolution of all the major leadership problems facing the party.

He said: “With the emergency National Executive Council (NEC) of APC scheduled to hold Tuesday, March 17, 2019, apart from the issue of appointing Acting National Chairman, the resolution of cases of so-called suspension of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) would have to be addressed. “This is very important given that part of what the emergency NEC meeting would be required to achieve is to lay solid foundation for the resolution of all the major leadership problems facing the party. That will mean that the NEC will have to review all cases affecting all leaders of the party, especially members of the NWC and as much as possible ensure they are settled.

“This is also necessary because after the meeting, it will be the NWC that will be saddled with the responsibility of providing leadership to resolve all other leadership problems. Therefore, charity must begin at home, or as they say in law, he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.” Our correspondents recall that Shuaibu, in May 2019, wrote a letter to Oshiomhole, asking him to resign due to alleged incompetence. The NWC was then reported to have set up a five-man Disciplinary Committee led by Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the then Deputy National Chairman (South), to investigate allegations against Sen. Shuaibu.

The NWC was said to have suspended Sen. Shuaibu on the purported recommendation of the disciplinary committee. Lukman wondered whether NWC of the party has power to suspend its party members according to APC’s constitution. “Does the NWC has the power under the APC constitution to suspend any of its serving officers such as Sen. Shuaibu who is the Deputy National Chairman (North)? Without going into the details of the allegations against either Sen.

Shuaibu or Alh. Abdulkadir, what is the procedure for discipline as provided in the APC constitution?”, he queried. He added: “It is very difficult not to conclude that by its actions, the Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC arbitrarily handled issues of discipline such that even where there could be valid cases of activating disciplinary proceedings against Sen. Shuaibu and the three Governors, it was compromised therefore rendered the so-called suspension, acts of nullity. “The case of Alh. Abdulkadir is different largely because it was the decision of the ward executive, which the NWC, instead of transmitting it to NEC, decided to appropriate the powers of NEC.

This may require that NEC recall the decision of the ward and proceed to appoint the fact-finding committee as provided in Article 21(B)(ii) of the APC constitution. “Somehow, all these so-called cases of suspension and the speed with which the Comrade Oshiomhole-led NWC acted on them further demonstrate the intolerant disposition of the APC NWC under Comrade Oshiomhole. “Unfortunately, it also exhibited a disturbing reality about the inability of members of the NWC to cross-check provisions of the APC constitution before arriving at their decision. Such conducts are only the credentials of tyrants and despots and not political party leaders under a constitutional democracy.

“The reality is that to discipline a party leader of the status of a Deputy National Chairman, National Vice Chairman, Governors, etc. is not an easy task. It requires good planning and the necessary courage to be combative. But more importantly, it is a question of skillful application of capacity of our leaders to mobilise our members to enforce provisions of the APC constitution on matters affecting the conduct of party leaders. “It is not as simple as just sitting in Abuja to make pronouncement.

I fear that combativeness was applied at the expense of membership mobilisation. All this period, at no time did the NWC convene any meeting to attempt to explain or seek for support of any of its disciplinary decision to any member or organ. Everything was reduced to media outburst, which is unfortunate. “This bring us to the suspension of Comrade Oshiomhole by his ward. In every respect, Comrade Oshiomhole’s case is similar to that of Alh. Abdulkadir. Since November 2, 2019, the ward executive of Ward 10, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State announced the suspension of Comrade Oshiomhole, interestingly for alleged anti-party activities similar to the charges against Alh. Abdulkadir.

“The decision was transmitted to the NWC and instead of applying the provision of Article 21(B)(ii) of the APC constitution to set up a fact-finding committee, or even endorsed the suspension given the precedence they have set in the case of Alh. Abdulkadir, the NWC rejected the decision of the ward executive to suspend Comrade Oshiomhole.”

“My family is still in shock, and mourning the death of our daughter Fatima. She was such a lovely kid who loves taking care of her younger ones. Her dream was to become a teacher,” says Malam Tasi’u Maikano, the father of late Fatima – a SS2 student of Government Girls Arabic Secondary school Fago.

Fatima’s dream was cut short following her death a forthnight ago purportedly from a corporal punishment by a mathematics teacher, one Abubakar Suleiman.

Daily Trust Saturday gathered that the maths teacher, also known as Sikiti, was not a full-time teacher or casual staff but was engaged through a private arrangement by the principal of the school for a monthly stipend of N5,000. While narrating the incident that led to his daughter’s death, Maikano who resides in Kofar Bai in Katsina town said he was called by one of the vice principals of the school on February 13 to come to the school because Fatima wasn’t feeling fine.

Maikano arranged with some relatives and embarked on the 2-hour journey to the school. On getting there, he was informed that Fatima’s health condition worsened when she fell down after an evening bath. They said she may have been hit by evil spirits. On seeing his daughter, he shelved his earlier decision of taking her back to Katsina for medical care and drove straight to Daura General Hospital which was less than 15 minutes drive from the school.

No sooner had they arrived, than the doctor on duty confirmed her dead. Maikano called the vice principal to inform him of what had happened and took the long ride back to Katsina town to begin her funeral rights and burial the next day, February 14. Four days after her burial, Maikano said he asked for his late daughter’s school bag and books. While going through them, he came across a diary which the students refer to as ‘slum book’ where they sometimes document their daily activities.

In the last page, the late Fatima had written in Hausa “Allah Sarki ranar Alhamis munzo firef akaci miyi lilin muka yi malam Abu sikitu ya bugimu har ya fasni ko ma goshi banda lafia ina masassara da ciwon baya kamar na mutu” which translates in English as “God is great. On Thursday at prep, we were asked to kneel down. Abu Sikiti beat us and I got wounded, I’m down with fever and my back aches like I’m dying.”

Speaking with Daily Trust Saturday, the deceased’s father said “When I came across this note, I became confused and called the vice principal and told him about it. “When I didn’t hear from him after 15 minutes, I decided to go to the school with some of my relatives. He later called but I refused to pick it until we got to the school. “On our way to the school, one of Fatima’s friends called me to find out how she was doing and I told her she’s dead. I heard her and the others burst into tears. I was shocked to learn that no one heard of her death.

“When we got to the school, I showed them what she recorded on her ‘slum book’ and the principal later arranged some students who came and narrated that Fatima came out of the toilet, collapsed and fell sick thereafter. “However, one of her classmates later told the gathering how the math teacher flogged them for not doing their homework, and when it got to Fatima’s turn, she begged not to be flogged on her back but hands,” he said. Maikano said “What annoyed me was the principal and the teacher’s move to cover up what really happened. My family is pained because of that.

Another thing was the school authority not doing enough during her sickness. Records show she wasn’t even taken to the school’s dispensary or Fago Town hospital or to Daura for proper medical attention. “More painful was their inability to come and condole with us during the funeral. The vice principal came four days after on his way to Dutsinma while the principal sent a message that she will come next week. Even her friends were not told she’s dead.”

The family reported the matter to the state ministry of education and all parties were summoned for a meeting. The embattled teacher Abubakar during the meeting admitted flogging all the students who did not do their home work. “When I came to flog her, she told me that I can only flog her on her palms which I did.

This is all I know. Speaking on the matter, the principal – Fatima Yakubu, attributed her inability to visit the bereaved family to ill health. For Maikano, what has happened has happened and no action will bring his daughter back to life but he says action must be taken to serve as deterrent to officials who do not take proper care of children and wards entrusted in their care.

All efforts to get the reaction of the state commissioner of Education, Dr Badamasi Charanchi, proved abortive as he neither answered his calls nor responded to a text message sent enquiring about government’s action on the matter. However, sources within the ministry confirmed to our reporter that the embattled principal has been officially queried for negligence and redeployed back to the ministry.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a multinational professional services network of companies, has projected that Africa’s equity capital market (ECM) will sustain its volatile trend in the 2020 financial year amid promising prospects for growth if the authorities do the needful. The projection derives from the poor performance of the ECM last year as the activity declined sharply both in volume and value when compared to the level in the preceding year, with 2019 posting the lowest proceeds raised in ten years.

Specifically, during the year in review of African equity markets, the overall ECM activity in 2019 declined in value and volume by 44% and 29% respectively, compared to 2018. According to the professional services firm, the decline was mainly related to activity in South Africa, where ECM activity dropped by 69% in terms of value and 46% in terms of volume compared to 2018, and where Africa’s largest bourse saw no capital raised through IPOs in 2019.

Despite the lackluster performances of most African bourses and the volatility that characterised their operations last year, the global consultancy outfit, in its 2019 African Capital Markets Watch, which captured the value of transactions of the bourses across equity, Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and Further Offers (FOs) market segments publication issued today, was optimistic that 2020 held good promises for investment. Commenting on the ECM value slump, PwC Africa Capital Markets leader, Andrew Del Boccio, noted that “a state of uncertainty seems to have become the ‘new normal’, and we expect some degree of volatility and caution to continue to affect Africa’s capital markets activity in 2020.

“This sentiment is also reflected in PwC’s annual 2019 Global CEO Survey, in which African CEOs noted their expectations for a slowdown in economic growth as well as their top concerns, which included political risk, over-regulation, and worries about finding top talent to fill the skills-gap”, the investment analyst added.

Even then, the firm’s Africa Capital Markets Director, Alice Tomdio, predicted: “Consistent with prior years, we expect governments across the African continent to continue to implement strategies towards building robust capital markets. Some recent examples include Ethiopia’s plan to launch a local stock market during this year, and Angola’s roadmap to privatise its state-owned companies by 2022. In addition, we can expect to see other announced privatisations in Nigeria, Malawi and Ghana.

“Despite the lackluster activity in 2019, we saw significant progress in various capital markets initiatives during the year, including the drive for sustainable finance through the issuance of social, green and infrastructure bonds in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria. Together with a move towards more local currency and blended financing, we expect this trend to continue, and to unlock new sources of capital for African issuers”, she added.

In the report, PwC linked the general slowdown in equity markets to a series of macroeconomic factors. These include an ECM deceleration in global markets, caution in the period leading up to key local elections, which took place in both Nigeria and South Africa in 2019, and more specifically in South Africa, growing political gridlock and economic stagnation.

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has insisted that the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll must appear before it for questioning over alleged land racketeering to the tune of over N1bn. Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kano, Chairman of the commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado said the emir was expected to appear on Monday, March 9, 2020 by 10am.

Earlier, the emir was expected to appear before the commission’s team of investigators yesterday (Thursday), according to an invitation letter dated March 2, 2020 that was addressed to him, a copy of which was sighted by this reporter. However, while the commission awaits the arrival of his Highness, the emir’s legal representative from Dikko & Mahmoud Chambers sent a letter to the commission requesting for a shift in date to 25th March 2020.

The solicitors reminded the commission that its power to investigate crime is being challenged in Suit No K/208/2019. The solicitors also requested from the commission, the petition leading to the investigation; the names of the companies of interest to his royal Highness the emir; and the statements and documents obtained in the absence of its client. It was based on this request that the emir’s solicitors demanded the commission to postpone the invitation to 25th March, 2020 pending the issues raised. However, chairman of the commission, insisted that the agency was empowered to open fresh investigation on any body found wanting in anycorrupt practices.

Barr. Rimingado explained that emir Sanusi is being invited to clear himself over allegation of illegal sells of government property, adding that the fresh investigation was sequel to an alleged violation of provision of Sections 22, 23 and 23 of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008 (As amended) by the emir in the management of land reserve called Gandun Sarki spread across the state.

“Preliminary findings suggest that, a company; Country Wide House Ltd served as a corporate vehicle to allegedly launder the sum of N520m being proceed of 20 hectares of land in Darmanawa phase II under the former right of occupancy CON-RESS 2016-503 illegally sold to Messer family Home Fund Limited allegedly on the instance of His Highness the emir of Kano. “Investigation further reveals that, some of the proceeds of the sales remitted to the emirate council bank account can be traced to the companies of interest to His Highness.

“His highness is also alleged to have ordered for the payment of N175,000,000.00 to Messr Apple Integrated Resources as facilitation fee for the agreement of provision for side and services at Darmanawa 33.4 Hectares by Messr City scape ltd against the decision of the emirate council’s meeting of the 8th June 2016, which rejected such payment to the company, which the commission’s investigation confirmed that has never participated in any dealing with the City Scape arrangement with Ado Bayero Royal City Trust Fund,” he said.

He further said investigation indicated that all the alleged illegal transactions for the sale of landed properties at Darmanawa, Hotoro and Bubbugaje belonging to the Kano state emirate council were done by the trio of Shehu Muhammad Dankadai (Sarkin Shanu), Sarki Abdullahi Ibrahim (Makaman Kano) and Mustapha Kawu Yahaya (Dan isan Lapai) based on the alleged instruction of his highness the emir of Kano.

“These persons have made useful statements to the commission that necessitated inviting His highness to clarify some issues. So, I wish to categorically state that, this commission is entering a new investigation brought forward by a whistleblower on 29th December, 2019 and is not related to an earlier investigation which is still subject matter of civil suit.”

On the request by Dikko and Mahmoud chambers, he said: “The commission has drew the attention of the solicitors of the decision of an Appeal Court that affirmed the decision of Kano State High Court which settled the powers of the commission to investigate allegations of corruption against any person in the state as decided in the case of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission & one other vs Baba Salisu & 26 others, 2019 LPELR 47107 CA.”

The chairman also said the commission had denied the requested documents at the moment, as according to him doing so may jeopardise the commission’s investigation. However, he assured to make its findings and the documents requested available to the solicitors during interviewing of their client.

The Federal Government says it has discovered over 70,000 ghost workers in the Federal civil service following the introduction of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the opening of the 2020 Management Retreat for Treasury Directors of Finance and Directors of Internal Audit in Kano.

According to the minister, with the newly introduced system, Federal Government is hoping to make the system free of ghost workers soon. “I know that we have up to 70,000 ghost workers that have been identified in this process and we hope that we will come to a time when we will say that we have no ghost workers,” she stated.

While responding to questions on University lecture’s refusal to register with IPPIS, the minister said about 55 percent members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had registered in IPPIS. She also declared that lecturers yet to be captured in the IPPIS won’t be paid February salary. “Unfortunately, most reforms that you undertake you come across resistance.

We have had resistance from ASUU on the implementation of the IPPIS and I am happy to report that, at least, up to 55 percent of ASUU members are registered and the ones that are not are not getting their February salary,” the minister said. 10,000 difference The number announced by Hajiya Ahmed is 10,000 more than the number declared by Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami.

On Februry 1, Pantami disclosed that 60,000 ghost workers had been detected with the implementation of IPPIS while delivering a lecture as the guest lecturer during the 29th convocation lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Minna Niger state.

“Through the implementation of IPPIS system in Nigeria, a total of 60,000 ghost workers have been detected in government pay roll”, he said. Money is saved Mr Olufehinti Olusegun, Director, Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS), had said the Federal Government saved over N206 billion in salaries of federal civil servants during the 2017 and 2018 fiscal years.

Olusegun said that was achieved through blocking financial leakages of ghost workers. He gave the breakdown as N76 billion in 2017 and N130 billion in 2018, adding that the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had helped sustain the policy introduced in 2007.

He said from 2015 to January 2019, the Federal Government, as part of the gains of the IPPIS, had been able to employ more than 70,000 new workers into the federal civil service.

The Federal Government on Wednesday said the compliance, monitoring and documentation of all professionally-licensed teachers and schools by the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) across the country would commence from March 9 to March 17. TRCN’s Registrar, Professor Segun Ajiboye, who stated this in Ibadan while speaking with newsmen, said the task force has been activated to beam search light into the credentials of those teaching in government and private schools for appropriate commendation or sanction, as the case may be.

The National Council on Education had declared December 31, 2019 as the last day for unlicensed teachers to be registered with the TRCN or get booted out of the classroom. Ajiboye, who maintained that no serious nation allows her future leaders to be misguided by quacks, stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has a dream to ensure professional teachers are given neccessary tools to excel.

In a related development, Ajiboye said TRCN takes exception to States recruiting teachers and treating her license as “added advantage” saying that TRCN certification is a must criterion for employment.

“TRCN commences compliance monitoring across the country. As the December 31, 2019 deadline given by the National Council on Education for anybody who wants to practise as a teacher in the country to get qualified, registered and licensed by TRCN has passed, the regulatory authority is embarking on verification of compliance in all the states of the Federation and FCT. “The exercise is however put on hold in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states due to the challenges there. The TRCN team in each state will be led by a Professor of Education or a Provost of a College of Education.

The first leg of the exercise will start on the 9th of March and end on the 17th. “However this exercise will be a continuous one as TRCN has created a Compliance & Enforcement Unit at its head office for routine monitoring. “Prior to the commencement of the monitoring, a technical team was set up by TRCN and a meeting was held with all the State Coordinators where issues of logistics were discussed and harmonised. “TRCN takes exception to some States making TRCN Certificate optional in their recruitment of teachers.

This practice must stop because it is mandatory for anyone who wants to profit from the job of a teacher to be registered with the regulatory authority. “It is therefore considered absurd for any State to say ‘TRCN Certificate will be an added advantage’, whereas that is supposed to be the number one criterion. This is the global best practice.

There is no serious nation that allows just anybody into its classrooms to teach their children. There must be evidence of professional certification to practice as a teacher,” he said.

A bill to prohibit and criminalize casualization of workers after 6 months of engagement by employers scaled second reading at the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The bill also seeks to prohibit outsourcing of employment in core areas of operation. The sponsor of the bill, Wale Raji (APC, Lagos), said casualisation of workers had rendered many workers unemployed.

“In the case of corporate body, shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N2m or 2 years sentence for each director of the company or both,” he said.

A fire at the mechanical village in Mogadishu Layout of Kaduna metropolis yesterday consumed items worth millions of naira, witnesses and shop owners told Daily Trust. Eye witnesses said the fire started around midnight on Thursday as a result of an electrical fault and raged on for over an hour before someone alerted a police vehicle that was on patrol in the area for assistance.

Adbulwaheed Olawuyi, a shop owner at the village, told Daily Trust that the inferno affected two shops, three cars and a spraying machine. “The workshop was used for spraying cars. A Mitsubishi Jeep and a spraying machine were inside when it happened, so it all got burnt while a Mercedes JLK and a Nissan car were burnt,” he said.

Spokesman of the Kaduna State Fire Service, Nathaniel Gaya, said they received a distress call from the police around 2:30 am on Friday and immediately went into action to curtail the fire.
