Fashola returns ThisDay award
22.07.2008

Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Monday returned the ThisDay Governor of the Year Award for distinction in infrastructural development conferred on him in February to its organisers.

Sources close to the Governor’s Office in Alausa said the action came in the aftermath of the recent publications in the ThisDay, title in the stable of Leaders and Company, designed to force the government to violate its physical planning laws to serve the interest of an individual.

According to a letter, with the title: “Return of Award,” which was personally signed by Governor Fashola, a copy of which the Nigerian Tribune obtained, the ThisDay awards was a Greek gift meant to tie the hands of the state’s helmsman.

“Little did I know, on receipt of the award, that it was a Greek gift meant to tie my hands and prevent me from upholding my oath of office, to do right to all manner of people according to law without fear or favour, affection or ill-will,” the letter read.

The governor also restated his determination to continue to hold sacred the oath of his office.

He declared in the letter: “Let me emphasise that on no condition will I depart from my binding commitment to protect the best interest of Lagos State at all times.”

Meanwhile, the state government yesterday defended its integrity, pointing out that recent publications of the newspaper casting aspersion on its character were borne out of malice, mischief and parochial self-interest.

Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, told journalists in Lagos that contrary to insinuations by ThisDay, the state government strictly follows due process and transparency in the award of all contracts.

the conman in question stands the risk of life imprisonment but the political conmen who have left majority of the nigerian population in chronic suffering at the end of the day just go in through the front doors and get out through the back doors after a maximum sentence of six months-what a shameful imbalance in our justice?
nigeria and nigerians shld start looking at these crimes from the point of view that one is against individual

I totally agree with u. The justice system in Nigeria is so laughable to the extent that the laws are only for the poor. Politician/Minister/Governor who stole billions of dollars are only given pat on the back. Some month back the NBA chairman was campaigning for 'Plea Bargaining' ! Whao, I sorry 4 Nigeria. Alarm of Bayelsa who stole our money was given a historic welcome 4 looting the treasury. What a country!!!
I'm not justifying what those guyz have done but to remind us of the monumental and criminal injustice in the Nigeria State. I'm very angry.

There are many parameters involve in determing which school is better than the other such as
1. The serenity of the environment
2. The quality of the Lecturers; which is measure in terms of Teaching, Research and Community & Nation Development.
3. The quality of their Undergraduate and Postgraduate Student.
4. Student Unionism
5. ICT Compliance
6. Practical class / Industrial Training 4 the Student
7. Leisure / Sporting Facilities.
and many more.
Before I pass my comment on the three school based on these parameter I'll like 2 say that i've been to the three school.
On Point 1
OAU is unarguably the best of the three. The planning was just too perfect, kudos to the funding fathers they really did a great job. The Oduduwa Hall is one of the greatest masterpiece I've ever seen.
The problem with UI, I think is necessity prolem. Then, Nigeria needed to have its own University 2 match the achievement of Morroco and Ethiopia and everything was hurriedly put in place.
UNILAG planning was also not the best. Considering the fact that it was establish the same year with IFE they really lag behind OAU in this aspect.

 POINT 2
I really dont have data on this, so I will refrain 4rm saying on this.

POINT 3
Data are also hard to get on this but one thing i can say without taking anything away 4rm the other two is that IFE students have been found to be all round over the years. Aside 4rm the academics they are very conscious of the society. I have had cases where they come top in interview, even their third class are force to be reckon with.

   POINT 4
On this, IFE stand head and shoulder above all. The student Union in IFE is an institution on its own. It is only in IFE that the Student Union is independent. It is only in IFE that any tribe can contest and win election to be part of SU executive. No corrupt politician dare come to the campus and go freely. For quite some time there has been no Student Union in UI and UNILAG.

    POINT 5
I really dont know much about the level of Computerization in these three school but one fact i know is that UNIBEN was recently judge as the best ICT compliance in Nigeria. Convenant is also not bad in this aspect.

     POINT 6
On the practical class, the fact are hard to get. The IT in UNILAG is 6 month, which is your first semester part 4. In OAU engineering, after your part 2 u'll have 3 month IT within the campus, also after your part 3, another 3 month IT, then your part 4 6 month IT. I dont know of UI IT program.

   POINT 7
On this point UNILAG is the best among the three. Since the community is also part of the University, then with UNILAG u can go to different places like beach, Silverbird Galleria, Night Club e.t.c. The sporting facilities is in good shape hence it attract different sporting event outside the campus. They seems to have maintenance culture which is totally lacking in most Nigeria University.
RomanceRe: He Wants His Child After Telling Me To Go For An Abortion by joselekas(m): 12:50pm On May 02, 2008
This is one story that has underline how wicked some men could be. @ poster u have to be strong. Don't allow him to intimidate you. He is a fool to have made the statement of reporting you to the Police. u see my dear all he want is the title and unfortunately for him ur child is attached to it because his wife cannot give him a child then he now remember he has a child somewhere. For now don't give in and let him lose that title for the pain he has inflicted on you but later you can. Inform your family eps your grandfather and be strong and brave. I'm a guy and i cant ever imagine doing that to a lady.
TV/MoviesRe: Any Lover Of Mount Zion Films In The House? by joselekas(m): 11:53am On May 02, 2008
Mount Zion films lead by the indefatigable Pastor, Mike Bamiloye is a treasure we should keep for our children's children. I grow washing the film Agbara Nla and i so much love it. I remember staying glue to our tv set every to wash the film. What i like about the personality of the man is running a non profit oriented organization but rather a life impacting ministry. I read one of his interview where he said pirating his work will expand the message in the work. I think he deserve a National Merit Award. I doff my hat.
Christianity EtcRe: Scandal: Pastor Chris Oyakhilome In South African Trouble! by joselekas(m): 4:29pm On Apr 25, 2008
I got 2 see this post very late but nevertheless I will like to raise some question about the whole issue.
1, For many years that he has been performing miracle has there been any case of stage manage before?
2, Why will they shut out journalist from taking pictures from the crusade?
3, What is the reaction of the authority in SA if truly the allegation has merit?
4, Any official response or reaction from the church?
These and many question should be ask before jumping to conclusion.
I have once doubt Pastor Chris when he visited 'Pastor' T.B Joshua and proclaimed that the later is a man of God. I also have some other reservation about ministry and his personality though i listen to his preaching.
