grin grin grin

It reminds me of an interaction I had offshore on a Samsung Heavy Industry site. There was this Delta guy I hear everyone call Money. I just felt it was his nickname. Then one day, we were talking and I said he should tell me his real name as calling people by their nickname is not my forte. Then he said that's his name. I was taken back.

I said, "Really? If your first name is Money, what is your surname?"

"Government!"

I laughed throughout the day.

You guys are really close minded, You never give room to other alternative. I keep on saying it that the physical universe is enough evidence for God.

Lets look at this perspective.....

Is fire and water a living thing? ""Disclaimer "" i fully understand fire and water are not living things. But however i am going to give it a shoot.

Fire and water both constituted of basic units. Fire is nothing more than a combustion reaction, and the resulting flame is the visible manifestation of the reaction. The intense heat of the fire vaporizes the fuel source, and, as the vaporized fuel interacts with air particles (free atoms and molecules), a glowing flame is produced. The glow is light emitted from the exited electrons of the air particles. In other words, the basic unit of a flame is the particles of air. Those particles can be thought of as a type of cell, the basic unit of the existent flame. Water is also composed of basic units. These units are called molecules, and they are of the form H2O (hydrogen and oxygen.

Water is the source of life, that most of the animate lifes depends on. It seems paradoxical, how can inanimate become a source of life to animate object? But that is the wonders of universe. Infact the major source of life are inanimate (Air, sunlight and water)

God can actually be an inanimate object, yet still still remain a source of life to everyone .
At least you agree that God is an inanimate object, even though the Bible reveals him as a living being. That's a good start.

I can see the level your frustrations has gravitated to, for i'm very certain it didn't begin this way but this is the product of the culmination of your frustrations towards God in this respect over a long period of time.

Next thing it would be that you directly want to work for the devil, to crown all your frustrations and rage in this respect!

I can emphatize with you to an extent, because I walk with God, and frustration is part and parcel of man's walk with God on earth! If you doubt me, you can ask Noah, Abraham, Moses, Job, David, Elijah, John the Baptist etc., and you'll see that frustration with God was something they all had in common.

I mean when you have a certain John the baptist, who was so sure that Jesus was the messiah for whom he was sent to prepare the way, that he said with full confidence of him, "behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world", but would later now send people to ask the same Jesus, "are you the one that was to come or shall we look for another?" then you would understand that the difference was frustration.

But even if we assume that it was because they were just men who inherited the condemnation of sin from Adam, then what about Jesus the only begotten Son of God, who had no such condemnation but also asked God out of frustration, to take the cup away from Him, which of course God didn't oblige him. And then when He was on the cross, also asked out of frustration, "My God My God, why has Thou forsaken Me?"

So certainly frustration is very integral to man's walk with God, hence anyone who doesn't expect to be frustrated in this respect should not even bother entering in, otherwise you'd only see yourself starting a journey you are not able to finish.

Perhaps that's the only difference between those of us who make it, and people like you who give up, the fact that such frustrations didn't stop or deter us, but only made us stronger in who we are, and what we believe in!

By the way in your post at the beginning of this thread you said you asked a question when you were still a child which you didn't get an answer to, I don't know if that's still the case. But if so you should understand that Adam was said to have also had daughters(Gen 5:4), and then it was not unusual if one married his blood sister, and then also take into consideration their average lifespan at the time, meant that someone could marry someone five hundred years their junior or even more. So if Cain had married, he could have married any one of them!
You expect me to work for the devil, a fictional character who has been made up to serve as Jehovah's alibi?

GOD IS DEAD--OFFICIAL

While theists continue in their search for the evidence to prove to us that their version of god exists, we can only continue to remind them of our findings.

For one, theists believe God is not an inanimate object but a living thing. But is there any sense in which God could be living? A living thing must have ALL of the following characteristics:

1) An organised structure
Since God is immaterial, he cannot have a structure, organised or otherwise.

2) Requires energy to sustain existence
God cannot require energy to exist, since he is said to have existed for an infinite time before anything existed, so he must exist independently of an energy source.

3) The ability to grow
God is said to be unchanging, so we can safely conclude that he cannot grow. It's not even coherent to say that an immaterial thing could grow.

4) The ability to metabolise
Without a material body, it is inconceivable that God could either breath or eat, digest and excrete, so we have to conclude he cannot metabolise.

5) The ability to respond to stimuli
This characteristic is untestable, since we do not know of any way to apply a stimulus to an undetectable, immaterial being. Consequently, we cannot say God passes this test.

To be classified as a living thing, God must pass ALL of these tests, yet we find God is unable to pass ANY of them. If this were an exam, we could not talk about God getting a poor mark--he can't even turn up to sit the exam! This is absolute and total failure.

So take down all your God is Love! and Jesus lives! posters. God is now dead. Officially.

This would apply if I were intending to convince you that gods do not exist, which I am not. Same way I wouldn't be wasting my time trying to convince you gods existed if I felt they did. I wouldn't believe gods exist, I would know they existed, and if you don't know they did, I'd just pass you off as a deluded ignorant fool. After all, I'd hardly accept that I was the deluded ignorant fool and accept my existing god does not exist!

But the evidence has been peer reviewed. I after all reviewed it, or don't you consider me a peer? Unfortunately, personal bias gets in the way of reviewing such stuff. Gods are one area where the rules of objective reviews are not accepted. I can't train your mind to be objective I am afraid. But just consider what has happened to all the gods that exist no more. Did they stop existing, or did they die in the minds of those who believed they existed?

As I said, gods exist only in the minds of those in whom they have been created, so it would be irrational for me to try to convince anyone that what exists in their minds does not exist in reality. The evidence is however out there that all the gods that have ever existed are human creations, and everything the gods have been claimed to be responsible for, more suitable reasons now exist. You just have to approach it with the mind that allows you to realise that fact. There was a time, after all, when Aphrodite lifted up her hindlegs and women got pregnant, but nowadays, we know that sex has something to do with birth, and Aphrodite is more or less dead.

To me, a person who believes gods do not exist, is an agnostic, as in someone who does not know, which may suit some, but if you really want to get off the fence, clean out your mind and consider the evidence objectively.
I don't like endless rhetoric. You said you've done extensive research and found out there's 100% certainty that there's no God. All I ask for is the evidence of your certainty that's above board. You'll be contributing greatly to our body of knowledge if you do.

You've heard it now, and I have held this view whilst living in Nigeria, and in fact, developed it there through extensive research. If gods do exist, people wouldn't claim to believe they did, they would know they did, but I'm sure you'd have realised most people believe gods exist without actually knowing.
You understand it's not enough to just blurt out these assertions, right?

You've done extensive research that have not been peer reviewed, hence the rest of us mortals don't know about, isn't it? It's a given that such a research if validated would win you a Nobel.

This is flawed excuse, the discussion can be initiated by either of them.

Using your logic.

Atheist .....ehy emeka why do you pray before you start attending to customers?

Believer.....mr nanmdi , i need to talk to god first befors any other human. God first you know.

Atheist.....how do you talk to god that does not exist?

Believer.....how do you know the God i am talking to does not exist?

You can see from this scenario, it is atheist that initiated the discussion and come up with the statement that god does not exist. And logically, it is reasonable for the believer to ask for the evidence of that statement.

Hope you understand now.
Then I ask you, is this scenario what happens to you in real life? Which of the two scenarios do you think is much more likely in Nigeria?

And any atheist who conclusively tells you god does not exist is deluded. I have not heard an atheist say that. Where do you find your own atheists?

It isn’t. A burden of proof is only required when there is a dispute which cannot be easily resolved and where there is a need for an answer one way or the other. So burden of proof lies on the persuader, either be it believer or not.

If someone I don’t know, let’s say seun , were to come to my house and try to persuade me that I am deluded for believing in God, I would be quite justified in adhering to the position that the burden of proof would be on him as the person seeking to persuade me of his superior argument. If he failed to discharge the burden of proof I would carry on with lifestyle.

At least "" the God delusion "" written by Richard darwkin was an attempt to prove god does not exist. Even your own thread is base on the same premises.
Here is the conversation usually...

Believer: You need God for your fulfillment...

Unbeliever: I don't think so. I don't believe in God.

B: How can you say so? Only a fool says there is no God. God exists...

U: What is your evidence for the existence of God?

B: You sef, prove to me that God does not exist...

You see, it is the believer who makes the assertion of the existence of God, therefore the burden of proof is on him to back up his claims.

Do you understand now?
Christianity EtcRe: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by joseph1013(op): 6:15am On Nov 09, 2018
YOU CAN'T PROVE GOD DOESN'T EXIST

It is common for theists to avoid the burden of proof by asserting that the atheist cannot prove God doesn't exist. Atheists normally respond with something like , "No, but you have the burden of proof..."

That's fair enough, but there is another way to deal with this. The assertion "You cannot prove God doesn't exist" is itself a belief and needs to substantiated. So next time a theists challenges you in this way, don't start wittering on about the burden of proof, just ask them how they know that.

They will be no better at explaining why you can't prove God doesn't exist than they are at explaining why they believe he does.

The love of god is a concept Christian evangelists sell very poorly in Nigeria.

From time to time, I get accosted by part time preachers and evangelists who want to sell me the love of Jesus. Sometimes when I'm not busy and the preacher looks like he/she has the cognitive resources to undertake a meaningful discourse, I engage.

The opening moves are often the same. I have been a door to door preacher myself. So I know all the moves and steps and the supporting verses.

So I systematically remove the legs on which the arguments stand one by one with basic logic and humour, pointing out inconsistencies and absurdities and introducing scriptures they are usually coming across for the first time. Trust me, it can be frustrating when you're holding a bible and someone holding just a smart phone is showing you weaknesses in your pitch.

Then comes the interesting part. When everything else fails, the threats then begin. The Jesus that loved you unconditionally a few minutes ago would burn you in everlasting fire and mete out every imaginable punishment on you, not because you're a thief or a liar or a murderer. But because "you have not accepted him as your lord and saviour." And it is the same guy who sold you the love of Jesus a few minutes ago who is selling the threats and wrath.

This is where it stops adding up. Unconditional love. If you don't love me in return, you burn in everlasting fire. I point this out and almost always, I get more threats. Then I know we're done. I wonder how they manage to remain human. Because someone doesn't buy your own version of religious virus, you begin to wish him all the calamities in the world. But since we know it's all kindergarten threats. We just smile and find something more useful to do.

The next time I meet another one, I'll let him know that the fear marketing strategy doesn't work for everyone. If we argue sensibly over beer and isi ewu for a year, you have a better chance of convincing me. Of course, you're paying. Shebi it's you that believes I need the love of Jesus? INVOKING EINSTEIN...

Religious people like to invoke the names or quotes of influential people who were/are perceived as religious as evidence of the validity of their religious beliefs.

In their minds, it goes like this, "If Wole Soyinka is a theist, who are you to dispute theism?"

Little do they know that such blatant appeal to (false) authority is a logical fallacy. It proves nothing. That Barack Obama believes Islam should be tolerated does not make it right.

One of the influential persons Christians especially like to use for this fallacy is Albert Einstein. Einstein is widely considered to be one of the greatest scientists in history. They support their assertion of Einstein's religiosity by using this quote:

"Science without religion is lame,
Religion without science is blind."
Albert Einstein

But Einstein did not believe in a personal God and was not religious.

In fact, this was what he said about the Christian god to clear up all the quote mining like a lot of my religious friends do.

In a letter, he states:

"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this."

"For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions."

So to put it bluntly, Einstein thought the Jewish religion is just childish superstition.

In other words, he thinks the religions of Christians, Muslims, and Jews are childish.

How then can you invoke such a man to support you?

OUR SECRET TAIL

Evolution doesn't start from scratch for each new creature, it works by slightly changing, or adding to, an existing creature's genes. The new creature normally keeps the genes of the existing creature but may "switch off" some of them so they do not express.

If all life began from a common ancestor, you might expect humans would share genes, not just with our close cousins like chimpanzees, but with far distant ancestors such as fish, fungi and bacteria. And so we do.

Since our distant ancestors have tails, do we still have genes to make a tail? Yes, we do. In fact there is a stage in our development, from four to seven weeks gestation, when the tail is clearly visible. At eight weeks, a genetic program that evolved far later kicks in. The tail is reabsorbed and disappears leaving only the tell-tale stub known as the coccyx.

Very, very rarely, the newer genetic program fails to kick in correctly and leaves the tail intact so the baby is born with a true tail. For an example of this see Alashari M, Torakawa J. Pediatric Dermatology 1995 Sep;12(3):263-6.

So when you hear of such a case, it is not God playing an awful prank on a baby, nor is it Satan or witches causing havoc--it is nature doing its best. Unfortunately, nature's best is not always good enough.

NIGERIAN SCIENCE EDUCATION

"Listen up everyone. I've got to tell you where babies come from. If you don't remember this, you won't pass your exam--it's our silly SYSTEM! But when I've told you all that, I'll explain what really happens.

Now, for the exam, a man and woman have sexual intercourse, millions of sperm are ejactuated into the vagina where they swim into the uterus and, sometimes, meet an egg and one sperm will fertilise it. The fertilised egg is a cell that divides many times and soon the cells begin to specialise to become bones, skin, eyes and so on.

Of course, that is not what really happens. What really happens is we go to church and pray and nine months later a stork will fly into your bedroom carrying a beautiful baby. Praise Jesus!"

This may be a joke but after talking to many educated Nigerians, it seems to be how some science is actually taught. Sad.

WHAT MICROEVOLUTION PROVES

Creationists prefer to believe myth and magic over evidence and reason. But, given the huge weight of evidence, even creationists find it difficult to deny microevolution (changes within a species, such as changes in the shape of a finch's beak). So they admit microevolution is real.

Good. But what does microevolution prove? It proves that a mechanism exists that causes genetic variations between generations. And it proves that some genetic variations can become widespread in a population over a number generations.

There is just one more thing we need to know, genetic changes in a population are cumulative. Let's say a micro-change occurs in a population, when a second micro-change occurs in the same population it will ADD to the previous change. For as long as a population survives, there is no limit to the number micro-changes that can accumulate.

By accumulating many small changes over the generations, could a flipper become a leg (the bones changing in shape and size)? Of course it could. Could a leg disappear completely or almost completely?

Of course it could. Could a flap of skin become a wing? Of course it could.

At some point the accumulation of genetic changes would mean members of the evolved population would no longer be able to mate with a member of the original population (assuming some survived). At that point we say a new species has evolved. Is this microevolution or macroevolution?

At some point, a population that made its living climbing trees could change and make its living running on the savanna and eating an entirely different diet. Is this microevolution or macroevolution?

The reality is, there is only microevolution. But give microevolution enough time and selection pressures and you have macroevolution. With time and selection, macroevolution is INEVITABLE.

In four billion years, life on Earth has had plenty of time, and plenty of selection pressures.
