Of course I understand we all have more than three criteria in choosing our potential life partner, but for the purpose of this thread, just your three topmost criteria.
For those who are married, what were the three topmost criteria that made you marry your spouse.

What transpired in 2011 as posted on nairaland in july 2011...so read below
A part four medical student of Madonna University, Anambra State, Kolade Olajide, and three other students have been arrested by the men of the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly killing a policeman during a robbery operation at Moferere area of Ado-Ekiti.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olayinka Balogun, said at a press conference where the suspects were paraded in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, that the deceased, Mr. Olusegun Olufowobi, was shot by the gang around 8:40pm on July 20.
The other suspects are, Blessing Ohworisi, a male student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti; Ojo Ogundare, a tyre repairer and Miss Sunkanmi Faleye, Ohoworisi’s girlfriend, who is the gang leader.
Faleye, who is a pre-degree student of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo in Ondo State, claimed she was not aware that her boyfriend was a criminal. She added that one of the gang members called her on the telephone and told her that her boyfriend had been shot by a robber.
Faleye, who cried throughout the period of the parade, added that she went to OAUTH to take care of her boyfriend unknown to her he had been involved in robbery.
The CP said, “The policeman was murdered in his apartment at Moferere area of Ado-Ekiti. He engaged the attackers in a gun battle with his service pistol, although he died but he shot and injured one of the hoodlums who is now receiving treatment at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife in Osun State.”
The medical student, confessed to journalists that he and Ojo went with Ohoworisi aka Master Orchestral, to the residence of the deceased for the operation.
The suspect, who claimed to be a former Student of Obafemi Awolowo University, where he met Ohoworisi, said the policeman was not the target. He added that they were returning from a failed operation when they saw shinning lights at the policeman’s residence.
He said the gang leader went in because he thought the person using a generator in the neighbourhood must be a richman.
Olajide explained that he and Ogundare, who accompanied Ohoworisi, heard a gunshot from outside the building where they had waited. He added that the policeman rushed for his pistol with which he shot the leader of the gang.
The policeman was later rushed to hospital where he died, having lost so much blood while the injured gang leader was taken away by his members.
Olajide said they deceived the policemen at different checkpoints and managed to take the injured gang leader to OAUTH where he and others were arrested.
Last Year the Campus was thrown into dissarray following allegations of sexual harassment .
That the university is a catholic based institution, owned by a revered Reverend Monsignor, Emmanuel Edeh, and prides itself as a prized citadel of learning which is also evident in the fees paid by its students, which is in the range of N300,000 to N400,000 is not enough to stop one of its lecturers from conducting a census of the female students of the institution on his bed if they will pass his paper. Mr Gospel Ajuru , a lecturer in the Pathology department of the Madonna University, Okija has been confirmed to be the type that tests the knowledge of his female students in his bed, and their performance during the duration of the ‘show’ determines what the student gets as score for both his tests and his exams. Ajuru, according to one of his students who begged for anonymity as she is still being tutored by the randy lecturer has tasted the forbidden fruit of almost all his students, especially those who are afraid of carrying over his course.
sholatech: It depends entirely on your employment letter. What is stated under resignation/Termination? If none, then you are a free bird. If however they require you to provide one month notice or pay 'in lieu', then you can request new employer if you can resume in April or you pay your current employer 1-month salary
What if the appointment letter was not signed by d employee..lyk me am in d same shoes of d OP..just dat i am yet to sign d appointment letter which i was meant to sign and i am now in d 2nd month out of d 6mnths of probation...i will love 2 hear opinions to dz regards
rundown, i think u get it all wrong!....CLI is abt sweeeping d street while VSS is like d PSP dat transport wastes and also manage dem!.........they drain gutters and drainages....dey cart away wastes in companies, residence...etc....and dey pay dem......so lawma regulates dier activitues, including activities of d CLI
So on pt...VSS is just for collection transportation sorting disposal renewal of waste...CLI is just for sweeping roads
Idimu: Got a call from VisionScape Sanitation Solution this evening asking for my name on Facebook and also told me to come for my contract letter nextweek.
@ Idimu, Pls are you an Area manager ot supervisor
Another wrong twist of history.. The first application of GIS was done in the area of Public Health to map diseases spread...in fact Programmers, computer scientist, Mathematicians, Statisticians, Surveyors etc have contributed are still contributing to the advancement of GIS... Moreover in some universities GIS and Remote Sensing is under the faculty of sciences, some engineering others Environmental design..
Not a wrong twist..i know my history well Dr Snow used d knowledge of cartography to map out cholera nd not medicine. And at that he was a also a trained cartographer too wich was under geog

U av a pt tho. Altho Geog gave birth to GIS, and when pple saw its usefulness as a tool in analysing...they made it open to all disciplines. In most university GIS is mostly taught in d department of geography or borrowed lectures from d dep of geog.
Guyman02: I am a certified Town Planner, every city requires them for effective development and the field is broad in that you could even be an architectural draughtsman as a student within our locality, environmental impact assessment expert, good knowledge of Geography and remote sensing which can also be done as masters programme. Engineers and Architects, built industry practitioners, politicians etc have to work with Master Plans developed by Planners for estate layouts, parks and recreation, markets and business areas developments, construction sites, transportation and movement within cities etc States like Lagos know the importance of planning and Abuja is one city where planners have exhibited their expertise through monitoring and evaluation of the Abuja master plan which has been a battle between them and competing factors. It is a broad field which requires creative minds.
You can quote me anywer....d original plan of abj which is what is used now was designed by a Geography professor from University of Ibadan now in bkessed memeory...lets just end dz arguement...it all depends on what one wants....that determines wich is better. Cos i heard someone saying EIA done by URP....EIA is a multidisciplinary assessment done by almost everyone.
For me a geographer(B.Sc)..M.Sc Env control nd mgt, specialise in remote sensing and GIS, also a programmer(python)....and am enjoying myself. There are also URP guys enjoying demsefs too nd der are also geographers yet to enjoy so also URP..so also d engineers, lawyers,.....
I will just say let d fellow choose whatever course she wants, let d person love it, do adequate research on d selling pt of d course, be open minded and most importantly connect to d greatest Geographer and URPlanner of all which is GOD. And wit little knowledge nd skill from either...u will earn a good income and be fulfilled. Drop pen.
greenermodels: if you check online, you would realise most universities in Nigeria and abroad don't offer geography anymore. if he wants to work in environment, let him study exactly that thus, urp, civil engineering, landscape architecture, gis or any other aspect he is interested, geography is a Jack of all, master of none which is why it's not a professional course.urp is a far better option.
Lol where did u get ur statistics from...ow where u able to get info dat the tens of thousands of university abroad are not offering geog. as a course. D top 10 university in d world still offer geog as a course
franktolk: I will advise him to go for Geography . Geography is an all encompassing field that involves even the Urban and regional planning , Physical and human/economic geography,Geomatics,Integrated Geography, sales and marketing etc
According to www.geolounge.com "Geography has been branded a unique science of bridging the gap between social sciences and natural sciences. Hence we have two main sub-disciplines in geography. These sub-disciplines are Physical Geography (natural sciences) and Human Geography (social sciences)."
Geography can easily open up doors of international opportunities for you because it is general and not specific ,unlike Urban and regional planning . If you move abroad and you say u read urban and regional planning , they would first of all look at where you are coming from- Africa -Nigeria , what can you really categorically point to as a good monument of urban and regional planning in Nigeria ? With Geography you can still conveniently branch out into Urban and regional planning either in the future or at a Master degree level. Don't just get carried away with the name 'Urban and regional Planning'
Human Geography
Human Geography which is the second sub-discipline is of no less importance because essentially studies the people, cultures and communities existing in the world with a view of understanding its effects on the environment and vice versa. This means that the sub-discipline tries to understand the relationship that occurs within and across space – space here referring to specific locations – and place.
The scope of Human Geography is somewhat broader that physical geography and thus the sub-fields are more numerous than its counterpart. These subfields are namely:
Cultural Geography (trying to understand and describe the occurrence of various cultural groups with reference to space. Economic Geography (studying the relationship between economic systems and the biophysical environment). Historical Geography (understanding world history in terms of space and time). Population Geography (studying cultural composition, growth, migration patterns as related to nature of places). Political Geography (studying political and governmental features of regions) Settlement Geography (defining what could be termed rural and urban areas and why?) Health (Medical) Geography (health and disease study across space and place). Essentially, Geography is considered the field of the three ‘Ws’, i.e. “Why is What Where”? Meaning the field studies ‘phenomenon’ both existing and anticipated.
Physical Geography
The first sub-discipline to be discussed is Physical Geography. Why?
This is because Physical Geography studies the all processes and pattern that can be consider natural on the Earth’s surface and since it is has been established in the science that the earth came into existence before humans, the physical environment is always studied first.
There are constant interactions between people and the environment and also between elements of the environment itself and this is the focus of Physical geography. Its importance is growing daily with the different types of environment issues that seems to the popping up day by day in the world we live in today e.g. water shortages, global warming, deforestation, tsunamis, erosion, to name a few.
The sub-discipline has four (4) view points namely the Atmosphere (air), Lithosphere (ground), Hydrosphere (water) and Biosphere (the meeting point of the other three spheres also referred to as the ‘Life’ sphere).
Sub-fields in Physical Geography are numerous but they can be broadly categorized into 5 which are
Geomorphology (earth’s form and structure) Hydrology (study of all forms of water underground, over-ground and in the cloud) Climatology (study of long term weather called climate and its effects on life) Biogeography ( study of plant and animal life and processes) Pedology ( the study of soils)
The analytical and research skills gained from your geography degree are attractive to a range of employers
Job options Jobs directly related to your degree:
Cartographer Commercial/residential surveyor Environmental consultant Geographical information systems officer Planning and development surveyor Secondary school teacher Town planner Jobs where your degree would be useful:
International aid/development worker Landscape architect Logistics and distribution manager Market researcher Nature conservation officer Tourism officer Transport planner
URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING
Urban planning graduates play a key role in how the places we live in are managed and developed and possess a variety of transferable skills
Job options Jobs directly related to your degree include:
Facilities manager Historic buildings inspector/conservation officer Housing manager/officer Local government officer Town planner Transport planner Jobs where your degree would be useful include:
Building surveyor Civil Service administrator Community development worker Environmental manager Estate agent Landscape architect Planning and development surveyor
In summary both courses are equally good , but weigh all your options very well and make the wisest decision .
JosephCudjoe: URP limits you to just a sector of d economy....
and for dose saying geographers end up as teachers..dont our engineers end up as tchas tooo.THERE are no Bad course...Rather there is only bad economy.all courses are relevant and av a role to play in structured economy.
greenermodels: the clear winner is urban and regional planning because it's a professional course especially if he ever ventures abroad to study and work, geography in Nigerian schools is a complete waste of time and money.even secondary schools are retrenching geography teachers as they stop the teaching of the subject.
Nd dz is a complete disaster for Nigeria. Obviously all d post av seen so far was based out of ignorance. Now Geog and URP are two different things. Geog is wider dan urp. What is d future of d Nigeria environment and its resources if geog is scrapped out of d system. Most courses on environment if not all, climate change amg odas are built on the knowledge of geog or on d course geog. Now if she chooses geog(grads wit a good grade) and plans her career well..she has job opportunities from the United Nations, Oil companies, Teaching hospitals(medical geog), Research institutes wich includes universities, places lyk IITA,FRIN,NESREA, NOSDRA(if she does msc in GIS)..there r a lot wich i cant just list. And even tho i av seen geographers in d aviation industry, banks, airpots, Nimet, and dz country economy is flexible to any discipline.....all she needs its a good grade at least a 2:1. And she will have more opportunities dan URP. IN conclusion if neither course is her dream...she should go for Geography. Its far better dan URP if both are not r dream profession.
