Langtang North LGA boss Hon Pirfa Tyem distributes instructional materials to 160 schools

In a renewed demonstration of commitment to quality basic education, the Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has approved the distribution of instructional learning materials to 160 schools across the Local Government Area as schools resume for the new academic term.

The donation, which targets 142 public primary schools while extending benefits to a few private schools, underscores the Chairman’s resolve to strengthen teaching and learning at the grassroots.

The materials include 160 units each of number charts, weather charts, shapes, and other essential instructional aids designed to improve classroom engagement and learning outcomes for pupils.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Chairman, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Shalkur Haruna Mamdam, said the intervention was informed by observed gaps in classroom teaching aids in public schools.

A statement signed by Kum Precious Yakubu, the Chief Press Secretary
To the Executive Chairman
Langtang North Local Government Council said "We noticed that some of these teaching needs are not readily available for pupils."

The idea is to bring instructional materials directly into the classrooms so that our pupils can see, touch, and experience learning first-hand—similar to what obtains in many private schools,” he said.

Hon. Shalkur emphasized that the exercise represents the fulfillment of a promise made by the Chairman to the people of Langtang North.

“We are here to deliver on a promise. Promise made, promise kept is the conviction that drives this administration.

Although we intended to deliver before resumption, doing so at this point remains timely and impactful. On behalf of the government, we present these materials with the hope that they will enhance understanding and improve teaching experiences for our pupils,” he added.

Receiving the materials, the Education Secretary of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mrs. Tabitha Wazhi, commended Hon. Pirfa Tyem for prioritizing education and consistently supporting the welfare of education staff.

“This administration has shown uncommon commitment to the education sector, both in staff welfare and in making learning easier for pupils at the grassroots. These materials will go a long way in improving classroom delivery,” she said.

School heads and teachers across the Local Government also expressed gratitude. A classroom teacher, Changcit Selchak, alongside a Headmistress from a school in Zamko, Changcit Selchum, described the intervention as timely and highly needed.

“These are exactly the materials we need in our classrooms. They will help our learners improve their understanding. We truly appreciate the Local Government Chairman for his focus on education and the visible improvements in the Education Department, including structures,” they noted.

The latest intervention adds to the growing list of education-focused development strides under the leadership of Hon. Pirfa Tyem, reaffirming his administration’s people-centered approach and strong belief that quality education remains the foundation for sustainable development in Langtang North.

PoliticsDefection - I Did Not Call On Gov Mutfwang To Resign Says Senator Jang by Josepholome(op): 11:56am On Jan 12
By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

One time Governor of Plateau state Senator Jonah Jang on Monday said he did not call on the Governor of Plateau state Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection to the All Progressives Congress APC.

Jang who was one time senator representing Plateau North in a statement signed by Comrade Clinton Garuba, his Media Consultant said the attention of Senator Dr. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets.

" The report attempts to portray him as calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)."

For clarity, Senator Jang’s remarks were quoted out of context. At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Governor Mutfwang’s resignation. Rather, he criticized politicians for leaving their parties to join others.

The former governor therefore calls on the people of Plateau State to disregard the report and continue supporting Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who continues to lead the state under the people’s mandate.

PoliticsAgatu Council Boss Orders Immediate Revocation Of 2017 Agreement To Herdsmen by Josepholome(op): 4:42pm On Jan 09
Insecurity - Agatu Council boss orders immediate revocation of 2017 agreement that granted herdsmen access to Adepati Island for grazing

Orders armed herders to vacate LGA

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council of Benue state
Hon. (Amb.) James Melvin Ejeh, has lamented the worsing security situation in the council .

Ejeh who is Deputy Chairman, ALGON, Benue State in a statement made available to reporters said " I wish to formally address the public on the worsening security situation in Agatu communities following recent developments in parts of Benue State.

Agatu Local Government Area is presently experiencing a renewed wave of violent attacks allegedly perpetrated by armed herders, which we firmly believe is a fallout of recent military airstrikes in the Sokoko axis.

The statement reads that " these armed elements, fleeing from neighbouring areas, have reportedly infiltrated Agatu communities and unleashed unprecedented terror on innocent and defenceless residents."

" These attacks have resulted in the brutal killing of our people, widespread injuries, reported cases of rape, the destruction of homes and farmlands, and the displacement of hundreds of residents who are now living in fear and uncertainty."

He added that "This situation represents a grave humanitarian and security crisis that demands immediate attention."

" As Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, I unequivocally condemn these barbaric acts and decry the continued bloodshed in Agatu land. Our people are being hunted on their ancestral land without provocation, and this cannot be allowed to continue.'

In view of the persistent violations and escalating violence, I hereby announce the immediate revocation of the 2017 agreement that granted herdsmen access to Adepati Island for grazing.

That agreement, entered into by the then administration of Agatu Local Government Council, was never carried out in good faith. It was done under the guise of promoting peaceful coexistence, but at the expense of the Agatu people.

The negative consequences of that action have been enormous. Consequently, I hereby declare the agreement null and void and of no effect whatsoever.

Hon Ejeh also said furthermore, all armed herders are hereby ordered to vacate Agatu land with immediate effect. Let it be clearly stated that no portion of the Agatu land belongs to herders under any guise.

Agatu is an agrarian society, and our farmlands must be protected to guarantee food security and the livelihoods of our people.

I call on the Federal Government and all relevant security agencies to urgently deploy a reinforced military and police presence in Agatu Local Government Area, as the current security arrangement is grossly inadequate to stem the tide of these attacks.

I commend the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his consistent efforts and commitment to restoring peace and security across the state.

The people of Agatu appreciate the governor’s interventions and urge him to remain focused and not allow the activities of retrogressive elements to distract him from his peace-building agenda.

I also commend the Commander and troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of DSS, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies for the massive kinetic operations deployed across the general area to rid the council and its environs of crime and criminality.

The overwhelming influx of armed herders into Agatu land necessitates a passionate appeal to the Armed Forces of Nigeria to not only increase troop deployment but also provide the required workforce to flush out these ragtag elements from our council area.

I wish to inform the public that the council is taking decisive steps to dismantle criminal networks operating in the area.

Security agencies have already arrested some relevant suspects and are currently investigating them. No individual found aiding or abetting insecurity in Agatu will be shielded or granted undue leniency.

The position of the Agatu people is unequivocal: at this time, no herder is welcome on Agatu land. Any future engagement, if considered, will occur only after extensive consultation with the Agatu Traditional Council and other critical stakeholders, and will be conducted strictly through lawful and official channels.

While we are not opposed to any group of people based on ethnicity, we will not tolerate the presence of anyone whose actions threaten the lives, peace, and livelihoods of our people.

We call on residents of Agatu to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands as government and security agencies intensify efforts to restore peace and normalcy.

Agatu deserves peace. Our people deserve to live, farm, and thrive without fear.

PoliticsPolitical Realignment, Democratic Responsibility, And The Ethical Use Of Power by Josepholome(op): 6:16am On Jan 09
Plateau State at a Crossroads: Political Realignment, Democratic Responsibility, and the Ethical Use of Power

Plateau State is presently undergoing a consequential political realignment, marked by the steady migration of political actors and governing structures from the People’s Democratic Party to the All-Progressives Congress.

While political defections are not alien to Nigeria’s democratic evolution, the breadth and velocity of the current movement elevate it beyond routine political maneuvering.

It represents a defining civic moment—one that demands clarity of thought, restraint of language, and a principled examination of power.

At the center of this transition lies a fundamental democratic question:
What becomes of governance when political competition weakens, and how must power be exercised when opposition thins?

Nigeria’s political architecture remains deeply centralized, and within such a system, political actors often align pragmatically with power at the center to secure administrative access, fiscal leverage, and political survival.

In this context, defections are frequently less about ideology than about structural calculation. To acknowledge this reality is not to endorse it; rather, it is to confront the conditions under which our democracy operates.

Yet political realism must never become moral surrender.

Democracy is sustained not merely by electoral victories, but by institutional accountability, pluralism, and restraint. When a dominant political coalition absorbs most of the political class, the safeguards that protect the public interest are at risk.

Legislative oversight can weaken, civic scrutiny can soften, and internal party processes can quietly replace open electoral contestation.

In such environments, power risks becoming insulated—less responsive to citizens and more vulnerable to excess.
For Plateau State, these concerns carry particular gravity.

The state’s political history is inseparable from questions of identity, land, faith, inclusion, and communal trust. Governance here is not an abstract exercise; it is an instrument that shapes peace, coexistence, and collective survival.

Any political consolidation that appears indifferent to fairness, transparency, or representation risks reopening wounds that leadership is obligated to heal.
And yet, political consolidation itself is not inherently harmful.

When guided by discipline and ethical clarity, alignment between state and federal authority can unlock real opportunities: accelerated development, coordinated security responses, and improved access to national resources.

The decisive factor is not the banner under which power is gathered, but the values, standards, and accountability frameworks by which it is exercised.

This moment therefore places an elevated burden on those who now command political authority in Plateau State. With diminished external opposition comes an expanded moral responsibility to govern transparently, inclusively, and competently.

The political class must recognize that authority without accountability is fragile, and legitimacy without performance is temporary. Public office holders must welcome scrutiny, strengthen oversight institutions, and treat accountability not as an inconvenience, but as the essence of democratic leadership.

At the same time, the responsibility for accountability does not rest on leaders alone.

Citizens, civil society, the media, faith and traditional institutions, and the diaspora must resist political fatigue and selective silence.

Democracy weakens not only when leaders fail, but when citizens disengage. The obligation to demand transparency, to ask difficult questions, to reject ethnic or partisan blind loyalty, and to insist on measurable outcomes is a civic duty—not an act of hostility.

A politically conscious citizenry is the strongest safeguard against abuse of power.

The absence of strong opposition does not reduce the duty to govern well; it intensifies it.

Equally, it heightens the responsibility of citizens to remain vigilant, informed, and engaged.

This period is also a critical test for political parties themselves. A dominant party that expands without reinforcing internal democracy, ethical standards, and transparent processes risks transforming unity into fragility.

When rules are unclear and merit is questioned, internal factionalism replaces pluralism, and instability resurfaces from within.

Plateau’s path forward must therefore be intentional. Political leaders and citizens alike must actively construct democratic guardrails: open procurement systems, credible internal party processes, strong legislative oversight, and sustained civic engagement.

Power must be balanced by participation, and authority by accountability.

History will not remember Plateau for the names of parties people joined or abandoned.

It will remember whether this moment strengthened institutions or weakened them; whether it produced measurable progress or deeper public cynicism.

Power consolidated without accountability erodes democracy.
Power governed by purpose, restraint, and public scrutiny restores trust.
Plateau State now stands at a crossroads—not merely of political alignment, but of democratic character. The direction chosen will define not only the present, but the legacy left for generations to come.

Warns Against Unauthorised Use Of Gov. Mutfwang's Name

Hon. Dan Kwada, the SSA to the Executive Governor of Plateau state on Middle Belt Ethnic Nationalities has distanced himself and office from an event titled “Middle Belt Summit”, allegedly organized by a group known as “Uniting the Middle Belt”, and scheduled to hold in Jos from January 5–6, 2026.

Kwada in a statement made available to reporters in Jos said We wish to categorically state that the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, neither approved nor authorized the said event.

"Consequently, the use of the name of the Executive Governor as Chief Host of the summit is misleading, unacceptable, and should be disregarded in its entirety."

The Senator reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all local governments within the Southern Senatorial District are equitably carried along in development efforts, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He disclosed that ongoing consultations are addressing grey areas to ensure that new entrants into the party do not displace loyal members who sustained the APC through challenging periods of vilification and political adversity.

In his remarks, a member of the Elders’ Forum, Gen. Jon Temlong, commended Senator Lalong for his leadership and steadfast stewardship of the party over the years, particularly for creating opportunities for Plateau indigenes, including those from Langtang, to serve at the federal level.

"The leadership of AMAC views the recent stakeholders’ meeting organized by the FCTA not as a collaborative effort, but as a direct attempt to undermine the constitutional functions of the Third Tier of Government.

"It is essential to remind the FCTA and the general public that the FCT Public Health Department is a service-oriented administrative body, not a revenue-generating agency. Under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), specifically the Fourth Schedule, the functions of a Local Government/Area Council are clearly defined and protected.

"These exclusive functions include:
Provision and maintenance of health services, control and regulation of shops, kiosks, restaurants, bakeries, and other places where food is sold to the public, regulation of slaughterhouses and markets, assessment of privately owned houses/tenements.

"The Constitution is supreme; any administrative regulation or law that conflicts with these specific provisions is unconstitutional, null, and void.

"The FCTA Public Health Department has relied on a High Court judgment in Suit No. CV/1642/2024 (Devyani International Nig. Limited v. Abuja Municipal Area Council) to label AMAC’s operations as "illegal." AMAC wishes to clarify the status of this litigation.

"The judgment in question relied heavily on a previous default judgment (Dunes Investment and Global Service v. Abuja Municipal Area Council), which has since been set aside. Consequently, AMAC has appealed the Devyani judgment on the grounds that the trial court did not consider the constitutional provisions or the fact that the precedent (Dunes) was voided.

"An order for a Stay of Execution has been filed. Therefore, AMAC maintains that the matter is sub judice, and the FCTA has no legal standing to unilaterally declare the Council's activities illegal pending the outcome of the appeal."

He added: "There is a clear distinction between Revenue and Service. The FCT Public Health Department’s role is policy formulation and clinical oversight. It has no constitutional backing to compete for revenue with a democratically elected local administration.

"By attempting to commercialize health inspections and sideline the Area Council, the FCTA is encouraging "institutional conflict" that starves the grassroots of funds needed for critical development, including rural electrification, primary healthcare, local road construction and maintenance.

"The Executive Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, urges business owners to remain law-abiding but mindful of their statutory obligations to the Council.

"We are committed to an 'Ease of Doing Business' environment, but we will not stand by while the constitutional powers of the Third Tier of Government are eroded by agencies that lack the legal mandate to collect such levies.

"We call on the Honorable FCT Minister to intervene and ensure that the FCTA Public Health Department focuses on its primary mandate of clinical excellence rather than interfering in the revenue structures of the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

"AMAC remains confident in the judicial process and asserts that its right to generate Internal Revenue (IGR) cannot be extinguished by administrative fiat."

PoliticsDoro Pushes ‘one Humanitarian, One Poverty Reduction System’, by Josepholome(op): 9:10am On Dec 16, 2025
Harps on Functional National Social Register

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, has called for the urgent consolidation of Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty reduction architecture under a unified national framework, stressing that effective coordination, credible data and sub-national ownership are indispensable to delivering measurable impact for vulnerable Nigerians.

Dr. Doro made this call yesterday at a one-day High-Level Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Strengthening Sub-National Ownership and Results-Based Financing (RBF) for Humanitarian and Development Interventions in Nigeria, held at the European Union (EU) Embassy Conference Hall, Abuja.

Addressing policymakers, development partners and humanitarian actors, the Minister underscored the central role of states in first-line humanitarian response, particularly in the context of recurring floods, insecurity-induced displacement and deepening socio-economic vulnerabilities. According to him, sub-national leadership is no longer a matter of discretion but a strategic necessity.

“States and Local Government Areas sit closest to the people. They understand the context, the risks and the realities on the ground. Any humanitarian or poverty reduction system that sidelines them will struggle to deliver timely, effective and sustainable outcomes,” he said.

A statement made available to newsmen in Jos reads that Dr. Doro explained that the dialogue was convened to reinforce the operational mandates of State Ministries of Humanitarian Affairs through improved budgeting, strengthened preparedness and emergency response systems, and the full integration of humanitarian planning into state development frameworks.

He added that the forum also sought to build consensus around state-led early warning and early action mechanisms, as well as structured coordination among State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs), LGAs and community-based responders.

A major focus of the Minister’s intervention was the application of Results-Based Financing as a tool for improving accountability, mobilising domestic resources and linking public spending to verifiable outcomes in humanitarian assistance and poverty reduction programmes.

Unveiling a key policy direction of the Ministry, Dr. Doro announced plans to institutionalise a “One Humanitarian, One Poverty Reduction System”—a unified national platform designed to harmonise all humanitarian and poverty reduction interventions across government, development partners, civil society organisations and the private sector.

He explained that the proposed system would provide real-time data, enhance transparency, eliminate duplication and ensure that financing is tied to measurable results rather than fragmented activities.

Central to this vision, the Minister stressed, is a credible and functional National Social Register (NSR).

“A functional National Social Register is the backbone of any serious humanitarian or social protection system,” Dr. Doro said. “Without reliable, dynamic and regularly updated data on who the poor and vulnerable are, where they live and what shocks they face, we will continue to spend resources without precision and impact.”

He noted that the Ministry’s reforms are aimed at repositioning the National Social Register as a single source of truth for targeting beneficiaries, coordinating interventions and tracking exit pathways from vulnerability to self-reliance.

“In a system driven by evidence, the National Social Register allows us to move from assumptions to facts, from overlapping interventions to complementary action, and from temporary relief to sustainable poverty exits,” he added.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Doro acknowledged that progress in humanitarian response, social protection and poverty reduction would be incremental but achievable through collective resolve and sustained commitment. While debates may persist around the boundaries between humanitarian action and social protection, he maintained that the ultimate measure of success must be tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

He reaffirmed that the dialogue, alongside follow-up engagements scheduled for February and the forthcoming National Council on Humanitarian Affairs, is intended to ensure that states and local governments internalise and operationalise national policies, with particular emphasis on livelihood creation, productive interventions and clearly defined exit outcomes.

Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, H.E. Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, highlighted the constitutional and developmental imperatives for cooperation across all tiers of government. He noted that humanitarian action, social protection and poverty reduction are embedded in Nigeria’s Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy.

According to him, ongoing macroeconomic reforms and improved fiscal inflows to states and LGAs have created new opportunities for increased investment in humanitarian and social sectors, in alignment with the National Development Plan and the Renewed Hope Development Agenda.

Contributing during a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya, commended participants for their robust engagement and urged states to leverage upcoming platforms, including the National Council on Humanitarian Affairs scheduled for January 2026, to deepen collaboration, share best practices and mobilise additional resources in response to Nigeria’s growing humanitarian needs.

The EU Head of State, Human Development, Ms. Leila Ben Amor Mathieu, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s humanitarian and development priorities, particularly initiatives that strengthen local ownership, accountability and sustainable financing models.

Panel sessions at the dialogue featured practical insights on state-led durable solutions and poverty reduction initiatives, cascading the National Social Protection Framework to sub-national levels, and applying results-based approaches to poverty reduction.

The dialogue concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening sub-national leadership, improving preparedness and emergency response systems, and advancing results-based financing frameworks to ensure that humanitarian and development interventions deliver measurable and lasting impact for Nigerians.

The event was supported by development partners and attracted participants from federal and state governments, local government authorities, civil society organisations, donor agencies, technical experts and the wider humanitarian community.

Nigeria, UN OCHA Advance New Partnership Model to Strengthen Local Humanitarian Leadership

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

The Federal Government and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have agreed to deepen collaboration as Nigeria moves towards a more locally driven, efficient and sustainable humanitarian system.

During a courtesy and technical meeting with the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, OCHA’s Head of Office, Mr. Trond Jensen, outlined the agency’s global shift toward empowering national institutions and local organizations to take the lead in humanitarian response. Jensen, who has led OCHA’s work in Nigeria for several years, said the country is well-placed to serve as a model for this transition.

He highlighted new measures designed to channel more support directly to Nigerian partners, strengthen community-level delivery and increase the use of cost-effective tools such as cash-based assistance and locally produced nutritional supplements like the “Tom Brown” formula. These approaches, he noted, ensure faster, more flexible and more relevant aid for vulnerable populations.

Jensen also explained that OCHA’s long-term plan is to gradually hand over full coordination roles to Nigerian institutions by 2028; reflecting growing national capacity and the government’s strong commitment to humanitarian reform. “We want to leave behind a lasting legacy: a system fully led, implemented and owned by Nigeria,” he said.

Responding, the Minister welcomed the new direction of the partnership, noting that it aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen sub national structures, improve coordination and enhance accountability in humanitarian and poverty reduction efforts.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s determination to build a system where federal and state governments, NGOs and development partners work seamlessly through a unified national framework.

He also announced the upcoming inauguration of the National Council on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as well as efforts at ensuring greater transparency and more measurable results of the work of the Ministry.

The Minister commended OCHA, under Jensen’s leadership, for its years of service to Nigeria and expressed optimism that the ongoing collaboration will deliver a stronger, more resilient humanitarian architecture. “This is a call to step up, organize ourselves better and take full ownership,” he said. “We are ready for the heavy lifting.”

Both sides agreed to hold further sessions to jointly design the transition roadmap and address operational issues such as the entry of essential medical supplies, as Nigeria and OCHA work toward a modernized, locally led humanitarian ecosystem.

PoliticsLies VS Facts: Revisiting The Aregbesola Years In Osun - Olakunle Ayorinde by Josepholome(op): 12:47pm On Dec 10, 2025
Public debates about Rauf Aregbesola’s time as Osun governor often swing between praise and criticism, but many arguments overlook the economic realities of that period. The nationwide recession from 2014 to 2016 hit state finances hard, with 23 states unable to pay salaries at all. Osun faced a sharp drop in federal allocation and internally generated revenue, forcing difficult decisions.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Aregbesola intentionally paid half salaries. In reality, the Labour Government Salary Apportionment Committee, which was made up of labour leaders and government officials, jointly agreed on a temporary modulated payment structure to prevent mass layoffs.

Throughout the recession, over 70 percent of workers (junior staff, teachers, health workers and local government employees) continued receiving full salaries and pensions. The modulation applied mainly to senior officers and political appointees.

Another widespread falsehood is that Aregbesola’s successor, Gboyega Oyetola, inherited the salary modulation. Records show this is untrue. A few outstanding balances of the modulated salaries were already cleared before Aregbesola handed over, and full salary payment had resumed eight months before the end of his administration.

Beyond the salary debate, Osun continued major development programmes. The School Feeding initiative served 254,000 pupils daily and later became a national policy. Thousands of classrooms were constructed or rebuilt, the OYES youth programme absorbed unemployed youths, and road projects continued across the state despite the financial strain.

It is true that the recession created emotional and financial pain for many families, and their feelings are valid. But emotions cannot replace verified facts. Transparency was maintained throughout the crisis, and Aregbesola’s strong grassroots support today reflects public recognition of his long term developmental impact.

The Aregbesola years were a mix of economic challenges and visible transformation. Narratives based on half truths may trend online, but they cannot erase the documented reforms, infrastructural investments and social programmes that reshaped Osun during one of Nigeria’s toughest economic periods.

Reacting to the development in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central APC Forum described Al-Makura's appointment as well deserved, noting that he has the capacity, and track record, to effectively handle the assignment.

The Forum pledged it's full support for the ex-senator and called on all stakeholders in the North-Central, including state governors, members of the national and state assemblies, party leaders and political appointees, among others, to give him the needed cooperation.

"The North-Central APC Forum equally thanks President Bola Tinubu for appointing a capable and highly acceptable personality in the person of former Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura as the Renewed Hope Coordinator for the North-Central.

"Mr President could not have made a better choice and we hereby congratulate Senator Tanko Al-Makura on this well deserved appointment," the statement said, adding that Al-Makura's appointment as Renewed Hope coordinator will go a long way towards the actualisation of the Forum's pledge to deliver six million votes for Tinubu in 2027.

The APC Forum noted that Al-Makura's track record makes him the ideal person for the role in the North-Central.

The statement added, "Senator Tanko Al-Makura was the only governor in the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, bloc during the merger talks the resulted in the birth of the APC, making him one of the founders of the party. He is a two-term governor with clout and experience and both former and sitting governors see him as one of their own. As a former senator he is regarded as part and parcel of the legislature. He was among the chairmanship aspirants who accepted without grudges to the consensus option that threw up Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman during the APC National Convention in 2022. His loyalty to APC and Mr. President is not in doubt.

"He has discharged critical party assignments in the country, which gave him first hand and intrinsic knowledge of the party nationally."

The statement highlighted party assignments handled by Al-Makura to include serving as Chairman of the Ekiti State APC Primary Election Committee that produced former Governor Kayode Fayemi in 2018. Al-Makura also served as the Chairman of the North-East Zone Reconciliation Committee in 2018, and as a member of the Bisi Akande-led APC Reconciliation Committee in 2020.

The statement added, "He has a very rich experience and knowledge of political activities as he was Youth Leader (Plateau State) in National Party of Nigeria (NPN) - 1979; State Secretary (Plateau State) in National Republican Convention– 1989; founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 1999; Governor on the platform of the CPC – 2011; pioneer member and signatory to the merger that found APC - 2013 and APC Senator – 2019."

The North-Central APC Forum also pointed out that Al-Makura was among the CPC bloc stakeholders who stood by the APC and President Bola Tinubu when some members wanted to pull out of the party and join the opposition coalition, earlier in 2025.

In the same vein, the North-Central APC Forum congratulated Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, on his appointment as Director-General for Party Outreach, Engagement and Mobilisation.

In the new role, Uzodinma who was also announced as the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Ambassador, is to work closely with the leadership of the APC and state governors to champion the achievements and programmes of the Tinubu administration across all political structures.

The North-Central APC Forum described Uzodinma's appointment as well deserved.

"We have utmost confidence that those appointed by Mr President to supervise the Renewed Hope Initiative will discharge the mandate effectively and position the APC for victory in all coming elections, particularly the 2027 election, when we believe Nigerians will attest to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda by electing Mr President for a second term in office," the Forum said.
