Miracles Already Being Reported Remarkably, even before the official commencement of the July Healing Streams Live Healing Services, countless people are already testifying to remarkable healings, miracles, and transformations as they prepare through diligent study, meditation, prayer, and the practical application of God's Word. These testimonies continue to underscore the far-reaching impact of the program, heightening global expectations for another extraordinary outpouring during this July. Documented Miracles from the March 2026 Healing Streams Live Healing Services The global impact of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services continues to be reflected in remarkable testimonies received from every continent, as participants report life-changing encounters during and after the broadcasts. Meimei from China had lived with chronic cervical spine pain that radiated to her head, accompanied by severe body heat and hot flashes that required constant medication. During the March 2026 Healing Streams Live Healing Services, she experienced God's healing power as Pastor Chris ministered in prayer. The pain disappeared instantly, and she has remained completely pain-free ever since. Twelve-year-old Miroslav Stefanenko from Russia had severe lung pain that made breathing difficult and prevented him from enjoying normal childhood activities. During the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, he received his healing. Today, he breathes freely and has returned to playing football and attending training sessions. Kirsi from Finland had been struggling with a persistent cough caused by prolonged exposure to cold weather and harsh drafts. While listening to a rebroadcast of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services during a jog, she experienced the healing power of God. She completed a ninety-minute run without coughing for the first time in weeks. After suffering a heart attack in September 2024, 65-year-old Elise from France was unable to bend, stand without assistance, or remember things clearly. During the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, she responded in faith as Pastor Chris instructed participants to place their hands where they needed a miracle. Instantly, she regained her mobility and astonished her husband by standing up and bending without assistance. From the United Kingdom, Ella shared the extraordinary recovery of her mother, who had been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and later slipped into a coma. Following Pastor Chris' ministration during the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, she regained consciousness, expelled clotted blood from her chest, and began breathing normally, marking a dramatic turnaround. L'Immaculée Nibigira from Burundi had been paralysed by a stroke for seven months, unable to sit, walk, or move her hands. During the first day of the March edition of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, she felt the power of God flow through her body as Pastor Chris prayed. She immediately began moving her hands, sat up unaided, and walked again. Diagnosed with kidney failure in late 2025, Mafeiki from Lesotho had become wheelchair-bound after repeated hospitalisations. While participating in the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, she felt a warm sensation sweep through her body. She now walks without assistance, sleeps peacefully, and joyfully celebrates her complete restoration. Wisdom from Nigeria had been living with severe kidney stones, fatty liver disease, and heart-related complications that caused debilitating pain whenever he bent down. During the Healing Streams Live Healing Services, he experienced an immediate release as Pastor Chris ministered to the global audience in prayer. Today, the pain has disappeared completely, and he can move freely once again. These testimonies represent only a small fraction of the millions of reports received worldwide since the program's inception, demonstrating the ongoing global impact of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services. An Invitation to the World As July 24 draws nearer, organizers are extending a global invitation to individuals, families, churches, healthcare professionals, community organizations, and leaders across every nation to participate in what promises to be another historic edition of the Healing Streams Live Healing Services. Whether attending from a Healing Center or joining online from anywhere in the world, participants are encouraged to come with faith, invite others, and expect a divine encounter. The Plateau State Government has recorded major success under its Free Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) initiative, with 311 out of 312 reported snakebite cases successfully treated between December 2025 and June 2026. Director-General of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, attributing the outcome to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s intervention in providing free access to life-saving treatment across the state. According to him, the achievement followed the procurement and distribution of Echitab®️ Anti-Snake Venom to healthcare facilities in 15 Local Government Areas, significantly improving access to treatment and eliminating financial barriers for affected residents. He said the initiative has increased public confidence in seeking prompt medical attention, reduced preventable deaths associated with snakebite incidents and strengthened emergency healthcare response across Plateau State. Bot noted that with the commencement of the farming season a period often linked to a rise in snakebite cases Governor Mutfwang had approved the procurement of additional anti-snake venom to sustain the intervention. He explained that the additional stock would ensure healthcare facilities remain adequately supplied and prepared to respond effectively to emergencies while guaranteeing uninterrupted access to treatment. The DG said the continued implementation of the free Anti-Snake Venom initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening emergency healthcare delivery, reducing preventable deaths and improving the well-being of residents. He added that the intervention further demonstrates government’s resolve to provide timely, accessible and quality healthcare services across the state

*COMMENDING THE VISION OF HON. UBONG INYANG'S VISION FOR A DIGITAL LAND ADMINISTRATION IN AKWA IBOM STATE* By David Godwin Enang Esq. MICIArb, AICMC I acknowledge and commend the notable and praiseworthy initiative championed by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Hon. Ubong Inyang, and the progressive leadership of the House of Assembly under the Leadership of Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, in advancing the Bill for the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Geographic Information Service (AKWAGIS). As a legal practitioner based in Abuja with experience in property transactions and land disputes across Nigeria, I can state with professional conviction that the challenges posed by overlapping land titles, fraudulent double-allocations, and unclear land records are not peculiar to Akwa Ibom, they are a national affliction. In Abuja for example, there are over five recognized title to property, but one cannot over emphasize the importance the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) plays in Land Registry within the FCT. What sets this initiative by the Honourable Commissioner apart, however, is the deliberate, legislative, and technology-driven approach being adopted by Akwa Ibom State to solve what many governments have merely managed. The decision to consolidate, digitise, and secure land ownership records, survey data, and urban planning information into a centralised database is not merely an administrative reform but a legal revolution. From a legal practitioner's standpoint, a single verifiable register eliminates the ambiguities that fuel several years of litigation and erode investor confidence in Akwa IbomState. It brings us closer to a regime where land transactions are predictable, enforceable, and trustworthy. I commend Governor Umo Eno for aligning the ARISE agenda with such a critical pillar of economic development. No serious foreign direct investment conversation can be sustained without secure, transparent property rights. AKWAGIS delivers exactly that foundation. Of course, the true test of any reform lies not in its legislation but in its execution. AKWAGIS will require sustained political will, adequate funding, and deliberate public sensitisation to ensure that communities, especially in rural areas, are not left behind in the transition from analog to digital land administration." I equally commend the House Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Renewal, led by Hon. Sampson Idiong, for the inclusive public hearing process. Good legislation is shaped by the voices of those it governs, and this consultative approach is a mark of institutional maturity. Akwa Ibom State is setting a commendable standard for the rest of the federation. I urge the other state legislatures to study and domesticate similar frameworks. The time for analog land administration in a digital economy is long past. Congratulations to the good people and government of Akwa Ibom State. *David Godwin Enang Esq.* Legal Practitioner

Thousands pour in Heartfelt Tribute as Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari, MFR, Receives Overwhelming Love on Father’s Day In a moving outpouring of gratitude, thousands of Nigerians took to their platforms on Sunday to celebrate and honour Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari, MFR, on Father’s Day. Men, women, widows, and countless vulnerable individuals whose lives he has touched in profound and diverse ways poured out their hearts in appreciation for the Kwara-born philanthropist. Through his foundation, he has tirelessly created life-changing opportunities, lifted families from despair, and restored hope to many, leaving an indelible mark of compassion and generosity across communities. Read the full statement of their encomium below: There are men who become fathers by birth. There are men who become fathers by responsibility. Then there are extraordinary men who become fathers through sacrifice, compassion, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of others. Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari belongs to that rare class. Today, on Father’s Day, we celebrate not merely a father to his biological children, but a father to thousands. A father to the orphan who found hope where there was none. A father to the struggling student whose education was rescued from uncertainty. A father to the young entrepreneur who received an opportunity when others only saw limitations. A father to countless widows, vulnerable families, and communities who have experienced his generosity, compassion, and kindness. Indeed, many proudly call him “Father” even though they do not share his name or bloodline. Many whose fathers are alive still look up to him as a father figure because of the guidance, encouragement, wisdom, and support he has consistently provided throughout their lives. That is because fatherhood, at its highest level, is not about biology. It is about responsibility. It is about service. It is about lifting others. It is about creating opportunities and opening doors. It is about believing in people until they learn to believe in themselves. For decades, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki has embodied these values. Long before politics and public recognition, he was already investing in people. Long before titles and honours, he was already changing lives. Long before public applause, he was already extending a helping hand to those in need. Across Kwara State, across Nigeria, and even beyond our borders, there are countless stories of lives transformed by his intervention. Stories of young people empowered. Stories of dreams revived. Stories of businesses supported. Stories of careers built. Stories of families restored. Stories of hope rekindled. Many know him as a successful businessman. Many know him as a renowned philanthropist. Many know him as a respected political leader. But perhaps his greatest title is one that cannot be conferred by any government or institution: A Father to Many. His greatest investment has never been in buildings, machines, or enterprises. His greatest investment has always been in people. In human potential. In the belief that when one life is transformed, an entire generation can be transformed. This is why thousands of young people see him as a mentor. Why communities see him as a pillar of support. Why ordinary people see him as one of their own. And why so many families continue to remember him in their prayers. The true measure of a man is not what he possesses, but the number of lives made better because he lived. By that measure, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari stands tall. Today, Kwara celebrates you. The people celebrate you. The countless lives you have touched celebrate you. The beneficiaries of your kindness celebrate you. The young people whose futures you helped shape celebrate you. The families whose burdens you helped carry celebrate you. Thank you for being a father beyond blood. Thank you for being a leader beyond title. Thank you for being a source of hope in difficult times. Thank you for showing that true greatness lies in service to humanity. As we celebrate you today, we pray that Almighty Allah continues to bless you with good health, wisdom, strength, peace, and long life. May He reward your kindness abundantly. May He continue to make you a source of blessings to humanity. And may future generations continue to benefit from the seeds of compassion, generosity, and service that you have planted. *Happy Father’s Day to Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari, MFR.* *A Father to Many. A Mentor to Generations. A Friend of the People. A Blessing to Humanity.* https://leaders.ng/2026/06/21/thousands-pour-in-heartfelt-tribute-as-ambassador-abdulfatai-yahaya-seriki-gambari-mfr-receives-overwhelming-love-on-fathers-day/

The Industrial Training Fund (Industrial Training Fund) has announced the launch of a Business Incubation Programme for artisans under its Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) initiative, in a move aimed at transforming skilled workers into business owners and job creators across Nigeria. The programme, targeted at graduates of the SUPA training scheme, is designed to bridge the gap between skills acquisition and sustainable enterprise development through structured business support, mentorship, and access to start-up resources. According to the ITF, the initiative will provide beneficiaries with entrepreneurship and business management training, including the internationally recognised Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) programme, alongside certification and licensing support to enhance professionalism and competitiveness in the labour market. The Fund said selected artisans would also receive tools, equipment, and start-up support packages under defined participation and repayment arrangements aimed at promoting accountability, ownership, and long-term sustainability of enterprises. A statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations Unit of the ITF, Thomas Ngor, said: “The ITF Business Incubation Programme for SUPA Artisans is designed to ensure that the skills acquired through the SUPA Programme translate into sustainable livelihoods, thriving enterprises, and increased economic opportunities for Nigerian youths.” It added: “Our goal is to nurture a new generation of artisans who will drive MSME growth, create jobs, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s industrial development.” Speaking ahead of the launch, the Director-General of the ITF, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, described the programme as a strategic intervention to ensure that technical skills acquired by artisans translate into viable businesses and employment generation opportunities. He said the initiative would help position beneficiaries to contribute meaningfully to national economic growth and the expansion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country. Dignitaries expected at the official launch include the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Special Adviser to the President on MSMEs, among other senior government officials, development partners, financial institutions, and stakeholders in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. The ITF said the launch will also provide a platform to present the programme framework, implementation strategy, and expected impact, as well as showcase selected participants. It added that a robust monitoring and evaluation system will be put in place to track beneficiary performance over a five-year period, focusing on business growth, job creation, sustainability, and contributions to national development.

ABUJA, Nigeria — Valentine Ozigbo, business leader and founder of the Valiant Movement, on Saturday, June 13, 2026, convened the organisation's first National Conference, bringing together coordinators and leaders from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory for a day of orientation, leadership training, and strategic planning. Held at Hotel De Bently, Abuja, the conference marked a significant milestone for the non-partisan leadership and citizenship development initiative, which is anchored on the principles of courage, character, and capacity. Activities commenced on Friday, June 12, with a welcome dinner that brought state leaders together for the first time as a national body. The gathering provided an opportunity for delegates travelling from across the country to build relationships ahead of the conference, reflecting the movement's belief that enduring national transformation must be rooted in genuine community and shared purpose. Delegates reconvened on Saturday for the main conference, where they were formally introduced to the movement's vision, values, structure, and strategic direction before participating in a packed programme featuring presentations by members of the national leadership team. Delivering the keynote address, Ozigbo, a multiple-award-winning global CEO, described the gathering as fundamentally different from traditional political assemblies. "This is not merely another conference," Ozigbo told delegates. "It's not another political meeting. It's not another gathering of people looking for positions or titles or applause. This gathering is different." He argued that Nigeria's most pressing challenge extends beyond politics. "At its deepest level, Nigeria suffers from a crisis of leadership values, civic consciousness, and moral courage," he said. Ozigbo painted a picture of decades of normalised corruption, transactional leadership, and widespread civic disengagement. "Too many young people have concluded that integrity does not pay," the acclaimed political leader said. "Too many leaders now pursue power without purpose." While acknowledging leadership failures, he insisted that citizens also bear responsibility for national renewal. "A nation does not collapse only because leaders fail. A nation also collapses when citizens abandon responsibility," Ozigbo said. "A society does not die merely because bad people exist. A society dies when good people surrender responsibility. That is why the Valiant Movement was born." Addressing what he described as "the tyranny of blame," Ozigbo challenged Nigerians to move beyond assigning responsibility for the country's problems and focus instead on solutions. "Responsibility is the highest form of power," he said. On the question of restructuring, Ozigbo clarified his position. "When I say restructuring, let me define it. I don't mean division. I don't mean hatred. I don't mean violence. I don't mean the destruction of Nigeria. I mean the honest redesign of systems and governance structures so that this country can work more fairly, more efficiently, and more sustainably for all its people." He argued that political restructuring must be accompanied by a restructuring of values and mindset. "We must restructure how we think, how we lead, how we speak, how we treat truth, and how we understand citizenship and responsibility, because a corrupt mind will eventually corrupt even the best institutions and constitutions." Responding to questions about the movement's political intentions, Ozigbo emphasised that the nationwide structure was not being built to advance any individual's political ambitions. Instead, he described the Valiant Movement as a long-term civic and cultural intervention aimed at transforming leadership culture and citizenship values. "Even if you produce one president or governor without transforming the culture beneath the system, the nation eventually returns to the same problems," he said. "The real battle is deeper than elections. It is a battle for values, civic consciousness, leadership culture, institutional thinking, and responsible citizenship. Our mission is bigger than elections. Our mission is the future of Nigeria itself." Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, who gave a keynote address at the conference, examined the habits, values, and disciplines historically associated with successful nation-building, situating the movement's emergence within a broader philosophical and historical context. Several members of the national leadership team also addressed delegates on key aspects of the movement's structure and strategy. Ms Aziza Uko, the movement's Director of Strategy, Media and Communications, led the delegates through the movement's core values and ethical standards, outlining the behavioural expectations and disciplinary boundaries that will govern membership nationwide. A global communications expert, Ms Uko also addressed the conference on the topic, "Reproducing the Valiant Identity: Training, Communications, and Brand Discipline". Director of Membership, Chigozie Alex, presented an overview of the movement's organisational structure, detailing responsibilities at national, state, local government, and ward levels. Director of Technology, Emmanuel Samuel, introduced delegates to valiants.me, the movement's digital platform, which will serve as the central infrastructure for membership management, communications, reporting, and coordination across the country. National Coordinator Ike Bishop spoke on grassroots mobilisation, community service, voter education, town hall engagement, and digital advocacy. Director of Finance, Nnamdi Obiechina, outlined the movement's financial framework, while Director of Legal Services, Barrister Cosmas Anyabolu, provided guidance on legal compliance, disciplinary procedures, and security protocols for coordinators and members. Director of Projects, Nana Kazaure, unveiled Project 774, an ambitious framework designed to ensure active movement structures across every state, local government area, and ward in Nigeria. Closing the conference, Ozigbo issued a direct challenge to the assembled leadership. "History is watching us. Future generations are watching us. Nigeria is watching us," he said. "This generation has a decision to make. Will we continue normalising decline, or will we rise to rebuild? Will we continue surrendering responsibility, or will we become builders of a new national culture? If a new Nigeria must emerge, then a new Nigerian must emerge." He urged delegates to "rise above fear, rise above selfishness, rise above bitterness, rise above mediocrity, and rise above silence," and become "voices of truth, examples of integrity, builders of communities, defenders of democracy, and custodians of value." Expressing optimism about the movement's future impact, Ozigbo said he hoped history would one day record that, "when Nigeria stood at a dangerous crossroads, a group of courageous men and women rose with character, conviction, discipline, and purpose, and helped change the direction of our nation." "Let us rise with courage. Let us build with character. Let us serve with conviction. And let us become Valiants," he said. Several distinguished guests attended the conference, including Most Rev Dr. Martin Uzoukwu, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Minna; Rev Fr John Chinenye Oluoma of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Dr Tony Offiah, Dr. Ejike Nwene, Mr. Edem Kubbie, Crystal Ikanih-Musa, Sarah Makka, Rev. Juliet Binitie, Mr and Mrs Chris Okafor and Afam Mbanefo. https://www.thegong.com.ng/valentine-ozigbo-convenes-maiden-national-conference-of-the-valiant-movement/

UNDP, Partners Seek Stronger GBV Action to Strengthen Nigeria's HIV Response Efforts to curb HIV infections and improve access to healthcare in Nigeria may remain limited unless gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) are tackled as major public health concerns, stakeholders have said. The concern dominated discussions at the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) National Consultative Workshop on Gender Equality, Gender-Based Violence and Intimate Partner Violence Programming in Nigeria, convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Joint United Nations Team on HIV/AIDS, with support from the Global Fund and other partners in Abuja. Participants noted that while Nigeria has made progress in expanding HIV prevention and treatment services, many women, girls and vulnerable populations continue to face barriers created by violence, stigma and discrimination. Speaking at the meeting, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Oyedepo Iseoluwa Rotimi (SAN), said the country's health challenges cannot be separated from issues of justice, human rights and protection. Representing the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, he observed that key populations continue to face obstacles in accessing healthcare because of stigma, fear and institutional barriers. According to him, despite a decline in national HIV prevalence, new infections remain disproportionately high among vulnerable groups, underscoring the need for more inclusive and rights-based interventions. Rotimi also drew attention to the situation of inmates in correctional facilities and survivors of human trafficking, noting that poor access to healthcare and support services often increases their vulnerability to HIV, tuberculosis and other health risks. He advocated stronger collaboration between health and justice institutions, improved referral systems for survivors of violence, expanded healthcare services in custodial settings and greater investment in programmes that address the root causes of vulnerability. For UNDP, the workshop offered an opportunity to push for a more coordinated response to intimate partner violence and gender-based violence within Nigeria's development and health agenda. UNDP Gender Lead, Onyinye Belinda Ndubuisi, said violence within intimate relationships continues to affect women's ability to seek healthcare, disclose their HIV status and access support when needed. She explained that the consultation was designed to bring together government institutions, development partners, civil society organisations and human rights actors to identify gaps in existing responses and develop practical solutions. Ndubuisi said stakeholders were particularly interested in ensuring that gender-related interventions are deliberately incorporated into Nigeria's Global Fund GC8 proposal rather than being treated as secondary considerations. According to her, there is a need to move beyond awareness campaigns and invest in interventions that provide direct support for survivors while addressing the social and economic factors that sustain violence. Also speaking, Country Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in Nigeria, Ms Krittayawan Boonto, stressed that existing laws alone are insufficient without effective implementation. She noted that although Nigeria has enacted legislation aimed at protecting women and children from violence, enforcement remains a challenge, while many survivors still struggle to report abuses or access support services. Boonto warned that programmes addressing GBV and IPV must be clearly reflected in the country's funding priorities, with measurable targets and accountability mechanisms to ensure results. She said stakeholders have a unique opportunity through the Global Fund's eighth grant cycle to secure investments capable of producing long-term impact for women, girls and other vulnerable groups. Similarly, Head of HIV at the Global Fund, Dr Izukanji Sikazwe, said addressing violence and discrimination is essential to ending the HIV epidemic. She noted that fear of abuse, social exclusion and other forms of violence often prevent people from accessing HIV prevention, testing and treatment services. According to her, the Global Fund is working with government institutions and communities to identify strategic interventions that can reduce vulnerability while improving access to HIV, tuberculosis and malaria services. She also expressed concern about reports indicating that many cases of violence occur within families and other trusted environments, making prevention and response efforts even more urgent. Stakeholders at the consultation agreed that strengthening protection systems, improving access to justice and ensuring survivor-centred services will be critical to achieving both public health and gender equality goals. Recommendations from the meeting are expected to contribute to Nigeria's Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 funding request and guide future investments in GBV and IPV prevention and response programmes.

Daduut made the call during a thanksgiving mass held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Gold and Base, Jos, on Wednesday, to celebrate her appointment as Nigeria's Ambassador-Designate to South Korea. The well-attended service drew political leaders, traditional rulers, clergy, party faithful, family members and supporters from across Plateau State and beyond. Daduut described her appointment as a privilege and a call to higher national service, expressing profound gratitude to President Tinubu for finding her worthy of the diplomatic assignment. She pledged to deploy her experience and expertise towards advancing Nigeria's interests and strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and South Korea. "I wish to express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding me worthy of this important national assignment. "I accept this responsibility with humility and a firm commitment to advancing Nigeria's interests and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Korea," she said. Daduut noted that South Korea remains a global leader in technology, innovation, industrialisation and education, adding that Nigeria stands to benefit immensely from stronger partnerships with the Asian nation. She said her appointment presents another opportunity to contribute to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration and support efforts aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth and development. The ambassador-designate also commended First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her commitment to women empowerment, social inclusion and national development. She expressed gratitude to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth groups, as well as the people of Plateau State for their unwavering support throughout her political and public service career. Daduut urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country despite prevailing economic and social challenges, stressing that nation-building requires unity, resilience and collective sacrifice. She particularly encouraged young Nigerians to remain hopeful and continue to pursue excellence, hard work and integrity, describing Nigeria as a country of immense opportunities. By Caesar Jadu Payi The recent expression of dissatisfaction by Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa marks a significant turning point in Abuja's response to recurring xenophobic attacks against its citizens. The Federal Government's decision to commence the voluntary repatriation of affected Nigerians, coupled with indications that retaliatory measures are being considered, reflects the seriousness with which Nigeria now views the situation. Reports indicate that more than 1,000 Nigerians have already registered interest in returning home following the recent wave of attacks, intimidation, looting, and harassment targeting foreign nationals in South Africa. This represents a sharp increase from the earlier figures recorded when the crisis first emerged. Nigeria's frustration is understandable. Beyond the immediate loss of livelihoods and insecurity faced by its citizens, many Nigerians believe that South African authorities have not responded with sufficient urgency to protect foreign nationals and prosecute perpetrators. The concern is heightened by Nigeria's historic role in supporting South Africa's liberation struggle against apartheid through diplomatic, financial, and educational assistance. However, while repatriation may be necessary as an emergency humanitarian measure, it should not become Nigeria's primary strategy. Repatriation addresses the symptoms of the crisis; it does not address its causes. The real challenge before Nigeria is how to protect its citizens while safeguarding one of Africa's most important bilateral relationships. Nigeria and South Africa are not ordinary partners. They are Africa's two leading powers, whose cooperation remains critical to continental security, trade, investment, and the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). South African companies such as MTN, MultiChoice, and Stanbic IBTC have significant commercial interests in Nigeria, while thousands of Nigerians contribute to South Africa's economy as entrepreneurs, professionals, academics, and skilled workers. Any prolonged deterioration in relations would impose costs on both countries. This is why any retaliatory measures considered by Nigeria must be strategic, proportional, and targeted. Diplomatic options available to Abuja include summoning South African diplomats, demanding measurable action against perpetrators, seeking intervention through the African Union, and reviewing aspects of bilateral cooperation where necessary. Economic measures should remain a last resort and must be carefully calibrated to avoid unintended consequences for Nigerian consumers, workers, and investors. At the same time, Nigeria must deploy its greatest source of influence: soft power. Through diplomacy, cultural engagement, diaspora networks, and strategic communication, Nigeria possesses significant capacity to shape continental opinion and mobilize support against xenophobia. The country's cultural reach through Nollywood, Afrobeats, higher education, and business networks remains one of the strongest on the continent. Going forward, three priorities should guide Nigeria's response. First, the protection of Nigerian citizens must remain non-negotiable. Every Nigerian abroad deserves the protection of the Nigerian state regardless of location. Second, accountability must be pursued through diplomatic and legal channels. Perpetrators of attacks must be identified, prosecuted, and punished to deter future occurrences. Third, both countries should establish a permanent Nigeria-South Africa Anti-Xenophobia and Early Warning Mechanism involving government agencies, security services, diaspora groups, and civil society organizations. Such a mechanism would help identify tensions before they escalate into violence. Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu is right to express Nigeria's displeasure. No responsible government can remain indifferent when its citizens are repeatedly targeted abroad. Yet the ultimate objective should not be retaliation for its own sake. The objective should be the protection of Nigerians, the preservation of national dignity, and the strengthening of African solidarity. The true test of leadership is not merely how nations react during crises, but how they transform crises into opportunities for lasting solutions. For Nigeria and South Africa, this is one such moment. Both countries must rise above the politics of resentment and work toward a future where no African is treated as a stranger in Africa.

Claims Against Yilwatda False, Misleading and Unfair — Plateau Youths for Positive Change Says Nentawe's empowerment programmes are visible for all to see, even to the blind, group insists The Plateau Youths for Positive Change has described as false, misleading and politically motivated the claim by a group known as the Jos Youth Initiative Forum that no Plateau youth has benefited from the leadership and interventions of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda. In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Kwalnaan Tsenlong, and Secretary, George Dente Goje, the group said the allegations were a deliberate distortion of facts and an attempt to undermine the numerous empowerment programmes and development initiatives championed by Professor Yilwatda over the years. According to the group, the impact of Yilwatda's interventions across Plateau State is evident and well known, making it difficult to understand how anyone could claim that youths have not benefited from his leadership. "The empowerment programmes facilitated by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda are visible for all to see, even to the blind." " Thousands of young people, women, farmers and entrepreneurs have benefited directly and indirectly from his interventions," the statement said. The group noted that one of the most significant interventions was the Renewed Hope Scale-Up Programme in Jos, where over 1,400 youths and entrepreneurs benefited from grants worth more than N280 million as well as various income-generating tools and equipment. It stated that beneficiaries received tricycles, sewing machines, welding equipment, carpentry tools, catering kits, phone repair toolkits, POS machines and startup capital to establish and expand their businesses. According to the statement, the initiative was designed to tackle unemployment, encourage entrepreneurship and equip young people with the resources needed to become self-reliant and economically productive. The group further noted that women across the state have equally benefited from empowerment programmes targeted at market women, widows, single mothers and other vulnerable groups. It recalled that hundreds of market women benefited from financial support initiatives aimed at strengthening small businesses, increasing household incomes and improving economic stability among families. The statement added that many vulnerable women have also received humanitarian assistance and livelihood support through programmes facilitated by Professor Yilwatda and his associates. The group also highlighted interventions in the agricultural sector, noting that farmers have benefited from tractors, improved seedlings, fertilizers, irrigation support and other inputs aimed at increasing food production and creating employment opportunities. According to the group, these agricultural programmes have attracted many young people to farming and agribusiness, thereby contributing to economic growth and food security in Plateau State. The Plateau Youths for Positive Change further commended Professor Yilwatda for his visionary leadership, humility and commitment to grassroots development, describing him as a leader who has consistently invested in people rather than rhetoric. It stated that beyond material empowerment, Yilwatda has continued to mentor young professionals, support innovation and encourage youth participation in governance, leadership and nation-building. The group maintained that leadership should be evaluated based on tangible results and measurable impact, not on politically motivated narratives designed to score cheap points. It therefore urged members of the public to disregard the claims against the APC National Chairman, insisting that the record of his contributions to youth development, women empowerment, agriculture and entrepreneurship speaks for itself. While acknowledging that more can still be done to address the needs of Plateau youths, the group insisted that it is inaccurate and unfair to claim that no Plateau youth has benefited from Professor Yilwatda's leadership and interventions. It called on political actors and stakeholders to focus on constructive engagement and support initiatives that promote unity, development and economic empowerment for the people of Plateau State.

NDC Takes Bold Steps Towards Institutionalisation, Reaffirms Party Supremacy at Second NEC Meeting The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its determination to transform the party into a robust, enduring democratic institution rather than a transient vehicle for individual ambitions. In a set of far-reaching resolutions from its second meeting, the party leadership outlined concrete measures aimed at strengthening internal governance, enforcing discipline, and ensuring long-term sustainability. These decisions signal a deliberate shift towards institutional maturity, party supremacy, and accountability—key ingredients for building a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape. Central to the resolutions is an uncompromising commitment to party supremacy. The NDC declared that all programs, policies, and appointments (except personal staff) by governments elected on its platform must be made in full consultation with the party’s established structures. This principle underscores that elected officials serve as representatives of the party’s collective will, not independent power centers. “The party remains supreme,” the resolutions state, “and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party.” This directive aims to curb the culture of individualism that has plagued many Nigerian political parties, where officeholders often prioritize personal or factional interests over the broader organizational goals. The party further emphasized that it is being deliberately built as a lasting institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded after elections. Members at all levels are encouraged to demonstrate commitment to the party’s growth and sustainability across generations. For candidates and aspirants, total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest at all times. In a move to eliminate parallel structures, the NEC resolved that all affiliated groups and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating under the NDC banner must function strictly under the guidance and control of the party. Such bodies shall no longer operate independently or in parallel with the official party structure. This resolution seeks to streamline operations, prevent fragmentation, and ensure unified messaging and strategy. To entrench ethical standards, the party has mandated the establishment of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for all party officials and candidates. A dedicated committee, chaired by the National Legal Adviser, has been constituted to develop the framework and detailed guidelines. This initiative is expected to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability across the board. Complementing this is the inauguration of a National Reconciliation Committee, tasked with addressing grievances and healing divisions among party members. The move demonstrates the NDC’s recognition that internal cohesion is essential for institutional strength and electoral success. The resolutions place strong emphasis on financial discipline. The party will enforce strict accountability in the management of all resources by its officers, with party funds used exclusively for party business. For candidates and aspirants, the rules are equally stringent. All monies sourced at various levels, as well as contributions made to campaign accounts, must be fully disclosed to the party at the appropriate tiers - local government, state, zonal, and national. Such funds are required to be received through dedicated party campaign accounts, including the presidential and governorship campaign accounts where applicable. This framework is designed to eliminate opacity, reduce opportunities for abuse, and build public confidence in the party’s financial integrity. These second NEC resolutions collectively represent a bold institutionalization agenda for the NDC. By prioritizing structure over personalities, accountability over expediency, and unity over factionalism, the party is positioning itself as a disciplined and forward-looking organization capable of delivering good governance. As Nigeria approaches future electoral cycles, the NDC’s leadership appears determined to move beyond ad-hoc arrangements and build a party that can withstand leadership transitions and deliver on its promises to the electorate. The Langtang North Local Government Council has urged residents to verify information from official sources before drawing conclusions on budgetary provisions and development projects, following growing public discussions surrounding the council's 2026 budget and project implementation. Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, said citizens have a right to demand accountability and seek clarification on government activities but cautioned against what he described as misleading interpretations of budget documents circulating on social media and other platforms. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious, the chairman commended residents for their interest in governance and commitment to transparency, noting that an informed and engaged citizenry remains critical to democratic development. According to the statement, the approved budget of the council is a public document accessible through the Plateau State Government's transparency platform and should serve as the primary reference point for discussions relating to public finances and development projects. The council explained that a budget is essentially a planning and appropriation document that outlines proposed projects, projected expenditures, anticipated revenues and development priorities for a fiscal year. It stressed that the inclusion of projects in a budget does not automatically imply that such projects have been completed, abandoned or fully funded, noting that projects usually pass through stages of planning, procurement, mobilization, implementation, supervision and completion. The chairman said some of the projects recently referenced in public debates are part of the 2026 fiscal framework and are currently at various stages of implementation. He cited the construction of the Supervisory Councillors' Office at the Local Government Secretariat as one of the ongoing projects, adding that the procurement process for the solar streetlight initiative had been completed and arrangements were underway for shipment and installation. The statement further disclosed that work was progressing at Zamko Market, where fencing works are ongoing, while boreholes have already been drilled ahead of the construction of sanitation and toilet facilities aimed at improving hygiene and commercial activities. Tyem urged residents to distinguish between proposed, ongoing and completed projects to avoid creating misconceptions about government performance. The chairman also reminded the public that he assumed office in October 2024 and called for a clear distinction between projects and obligations inherited from previous administrations and those undertaken by the current administration. Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and prudent management of public resources, Tyem said his administration remained focused on delivering impactful projects across critical sectors, including education, agriculture, security, water resources, infrastructure, healthcare, youth development and community advancement. As part of efforts to deepen public engagement, the council announced plans to begin periodic project updates in the coming weeks. The updates, according to the statement, will include photographs, project locations, implementation timelines and status reports to enable residents monitor ongoing and completed projects across the local government area. "The people of Langtang North deserve transparency, accountability and accurate information. We believe the best way to strengthen public confidence is through facts, evidence and visible results," the statement added. The council assured residents that ongoing projects and development initiatives would continue to receive the attention required for successful completion and maximum benefit to communities across Langtang North.

The campaign team of an aspirant in the governorship primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State, Hon. Jude Dakur, has called on his supporters and party faithful to remain calm and orderly following the outcome of the party's primary election. The call was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Rengkat Bakpet, and made available to journalists in Jos. The campaign team acknowledged concerns expressed by supporters following the conduct and outcome of the primary but urged them to refrain from actions capable of undermining the unity of the party. According to the statement, the campaign had already activated the party's internal dispute resolution mechanism by lodging an appeal against the outcome of the primary election. The team recalled that the outcome of the governorship primary election was rejected by Hon. Jude Dakur and his supporters, following which a petition was submitted to the party's Appeal Panel for review. "Having formally lodged our grievances before the appropriate organ of the party, we wish to call on all supporters of the Plateau Faith Project to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting the decision of the Appeal Panel. "We urge our supporters not to be discouraged or distracted by the outcome of the primary election where results were allocated to an aspirant without elections taken place in some LGAs. The appeal process has been activated, and we remain confident that the panel will carefully consider the issues raised and deliver its verdict in the interest of justice, fairness and party unity," the statement said. The campaign team expressed confidence that the appropriate appeal panel of the party would diligently review all issues raised and take a fair decision in line with the party's constitution and guideline "We have confidence in the leadership of the party and the established mechanisms for addressing grievances arising from the primary election. There is no cause for alarm," the statement added. The campaign organisation further urged members and supporters to avoid inflammatory comments, speculation and actions capable of creating division within the party. It reiterated Hon. Jude Dakur's commitment to democratic principles and internal party processes, stressing that the appeal was being pursued through legitimate channels. The statement also called on ADC faithful across Plateau State to remain united and focused on the broader objective of strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contest. The campaign team assured supporters that they would be kept informed of developments as the appeal process progresses.

50 adolescent girls in Jos trained on production of eco-friendly reusable menstrual pads By Golok Nanmwa Jos – In a significant move towards promoting sustainable menstrual hygiene, IYALI Hope Community Centre, in partnership with A Child’s Hope Foundation, has trained 50 adolescent girls from two shelters in Jos on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management. The training, which held across Jos Christian Refuge for Children Foundation (JCRFCF) and Simiji Girl-Child Foundation, equipped the girls with practical skills in the production, use, and maintenance of reusable menstrual pads. Participants also received a specially designed manual tailored for adolescent girls to enhance engagement and learning. At the end of the programme, each girl was presented with a pack of reusable menstrual pads, a storage bag, and the training manual. Speaking during the training, the Lead Facilitator, Oluwaseyi Anreti Adeolowu, stressed the urgent need for a shift to eco-friendly menstrual products. “The time to embrace eco-friendly products, especially during menstruation, is now,” she said. “The percentage of waste generated from disposable pads is enormous and contributes significantly to climate change, environmental pollution, and drainage blockage.” In her remarks, Mrs Mary Choji, Assistant Director of Jos Christian Refuge for Children Foundation (JCRFCF), expressed appreciation for the initiative. “We are grateful for this training that has improved the knowledge of the girls in our home on menstrual hygiene and the production of reusable pads. The provision of these reusable pads will enable the children to experience the benefits of eco-friendly products,” she stated. The programme is part of efforts to promote environmentally sustainable practices while empowering vulnerable adolescent girls with essential life skills for menstrual hygiene management.

APC Stakeholders Petition Party Leadership Over Alleged Imposition Of Senatorial Aspirant's Brother-In-Law As AMAC/Bwari Reps Candidate In separate petitions dated June 1 and June 2, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, the National Primary Appeal Committee, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the petitioners demanded the nullification of Gabaya's purported nomination and the conduct of what they described as a lawful and transparent primary election. A group of aggrieved aspirants, stakeholders, delegates and party members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has petitioned the party's national leadership, alleging the illegal imposition of Hon. John Gabaya as the party's candidate for the House of Representatives seat. In separate petitions dated June 1 and June 2, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, the National Primary Appeal Committee, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the petitioners demanded the nullification of Gabaya's purported nomination and the conduct of what they described as a lawful and transparent primary election. The June 2 petition, submitted through Freedom Chambers, a law firm based in Abuja, stated that it was filed on behalf of "concerned aspirants, stakeholders, party faithful, delegates, ward executives, and marginalized supporters" of the APC in the constituency. According to the petitioners, Gabaya's emergence violated the APC Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, APC nomination guidelines, and principles of internal party democracy. "This petition arises from the purported emergence and announcement of one Hon. John Gabaya as the APC candidate for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in circumstances that fundamentally violate" party rules and electoral laws, the lawyers stated. The petition further alleged that "no valid primary election was conducted in the constituency and that Hon. John Gabaya was unlawfully imposed through a process unknown to law, the APC Constitution, and the Electoral Act." In the second petition dated June 1, the group said it "absolutely rejected" the announcement of what it described as a consensus candidate. "We, the aggrieved aspirants, critical stakeholders, and loyal party members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, write to formally register our absolute rejection of the purported announcement of a 'consensus' or single candidate for the Federal House of Representatives seat," the petition stated. The petitioners alleged that no primary election was conducted across any of the constituency's 22 wards. "We state categorically, emphatically, and with deep grievance that no primary election of any form held anywhere within the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency. Contrary to the guidelines of the APC Constitution and the Electoral Act, democratic voting did not take place," they wrote. They listed all 12 wards in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and 10 wards in Bwari Area Council, claiming that no democratic primary election was held in any of them. The petitioners further alleged that no consultations were held with screened aspirants before the candidate was announced. "At no point were the validly screened contestants or their representatives invited for a dialogue, consensus-building meeting, or briefing before the unilateral announcement of a candidate was made," the petition said. According to them, "announcing a candidate out of thin air entirely alienates the popular base of the party across all 22 component wards." Allegations Of Nepotism The petitioners also accused an unnamed APC senatorial aspirant in the FCT of manipulating the process and imposing a relative as the constituency candidate. "It has come to our collective knowledge, backed by indisputable facts on the ground, that the individual contesting for the FCT Senatorial seat under our party has single-handedly hijacked the party structure," they alleged. They further claimed that the senatorial aspirant had "bypassed the party's democratic machinery to forcefully impose his biological brother-in-law as the candidate for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency." Describing the situation as unacceptable, the petition stated: "This level of nepotism and favoritism turns a progressive national party into a personalized family estate." Questions Over Membership Status The petitioners also challenged Gabaya's membership status within the APC. They alleged that officials in Igu Ward, Bwari Area Council, had no record of his registration or transfer into the party. According to the petition, the immediate past ward chairman and vice chairman allegedly confirmed they never received any resignation letter from Gabaya from a previous political party, while current ward officials reportedly said there was no documentation confirming his registration as an APC member. The petitioners claimed that Gabaya's name does not appear in the ward's membership register and that he has no record on the APC's electronic registration platform. "Hon. John Gabaya's name does not exist on the physical membership register of the APC in Igu Ward," the petition stated. It further alleged that "he has no record on the APC E-Registration platform, making his claim of membership completely fraudulent." Educational Qualification Allegation Another issue raised by the petitioners concerns Gabaya's educational qualifications. The petition alleged that the purported candidate lacks a primary school leaving certificate. "It is a matter of verifiable public record that Hon. John Gabaya does not possess a Primary School Leaving Certificate," the petition claimed. The petitioners argued that such an alleged deficiency could expose the party to post-election litigation. "Flying an unqualified candidate is an open invitation for the opposition to skip the rigors of campaigning and simply sue the party post-election," they stated. Warning Of Electoral Consequences The stakeholders warned that allowing the candidate to stand could create divisions within the party and jeopardise its electoral prospects in the constituency. "The AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency holds the highest concentration of educated, politically conscious, and active voters in the entire FCT," the petition said. They added that party members across the constituency were already aggrieved and warned of possible anti-party activities, voter apathy and legal challenges if the matter is not addressed. "If this blatant subversion of their mandate... is allowed to stand, it will inevitably lead to massive anti-party voting, lawsuits, and widespread apathy," the petition stated. The petitioners urged the APC leadership to immediately cancel Gabaya's nomination, organise a fresh and transparent primary election, verify his membership and educational credentials, and prevent undue influence in the candidate selection process. Among their demands is "an immediate nullification of the fraudulent candidate announcement of Hon. John Gabaya for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency." They also called for "the urgent scheduling and conduct of a transparent, democratic, and credible primary election or an open, inclusive consensus process involving all authentic, qualified contestants across the constituency." The group concluded by expressing confidence in the party's national leadership. "We retain ultimate faith in the leadership of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and the oversight of the Presidency to do what is right. We demand a level playing field," the petitioners stated. "Let the most popular, competent, and legitimate choice of the people emerge so we can march into the general elections as a unified and unbeatable force." Indications have emerged that a crisis may be brewing in the Plateau State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following an alleged plot by some members of the State Executive Committee (EXCO) to pass a vote of no confidence on the party's Chairman, Women's Leader, Public Relations Officer (PRO), and Organising Secretary. The move is said to be linked to allegations of financial misappropriation, lack of transparency, and what aggrieved members described as undemocratic practices within the party's leadership structure. Some EXCO members alleged that the affected officials had been collecting money from aspirants and candidates seeking party nominations, a development they claimed had generated widespread dissatisfaction among party faithful. The officials were also accused of allegedly handpicking candidates for elective positions rather than allowing transparent and competitive internal processes to determine party nominees. According to the aggrieved members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the leadership further allocated votes to preferred candidates during internal party exercises, a situation they described as unfair and contrary to the principles of internal democracy. Several stakeholders, including state party officials, local government chairmen and members of the State Executive Committee, alleged that repeated complaints over the conduct of the party leadership had gone unaddressed despite efforts to resolve the issues through internal channels. The stakeholders expressed concern that the lingering controversy could undermine the party's credibility, weaken its structure and affect its chances in future political engagements across the state. Some of the EXCO members behind the planned vote of no confidence argued that the alleged actions of the affected officials had contributed to the ADC's limited visibility and recognition in Plateau State. They called on the national leadership of the party to urgently investigate the allegations and take necessary steps to restore confidence among members and stakeholders.

Media professionals have cautioned inexperienced journalists against purveying unverified news, stating that dissemination of fake news could lead to serious litigations. The stakeholders spoke to reporters in Abuja on Monday as part of activities to mark the 100 years celebration of Daily Times Newspaper. According to them, no media organization can survive political transitions, economic upheavals and technological changes if it is not committed to the ethics of journalism. Tony Amokeodo, ex-spokesperson to a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu called on reporters to verify their contents from primary sources and not secondary. “Some journalists rely on secondary sources and not primary sources. Any journalist that wants to excel must avoid beer parlor rumours and stick to facts. Get your facts from your primary source”, he said. According to Amokeodo, some “reporters are not journalists”, lamenting the trend of misinformation on online platforms, where he said “anything goes”. On the alleged attack on journalists and media house by authorities, Mr Tony blamed lack of commitment to the ethics of journalism. Similarly, Charles Ozoemena, the Managing editor of Daily Times warned that fake news could attract serious litigations, urging journalists to stick to facts by properly verifying media contents. “If you are not sure of the fact, don’t go there. A lot of journalists just share whatever breaking news that they see online. You are sharing a news that you don’t know the source and you are not even sure of. “You must have to confirm the story by yourself before sharing, otherwise, you are exposing yourself to serious litigations. “Instead of confirming stories, you share whatever press releases you see, that is lazy journalism as far as I am concerned”. Also speaking, the founder of Folio Media Group and Publisher of Daily Times, Mr Fidelis Anosike urged consistency in the profession, stating that perfection can only be achieved via repeated actions. He said, “The next ten years of the profession will be defined by real journalists. If you are a real journalist, you should be able to write, background your stories, do research and structure your content. The profession is not for the faint-hearted. “You can’t be a journalist, then after five years, you go and do real estate, then after another five years you return, no. For you to be a perfectionist in whatever you are doing, you have to do it repeatedly overtime.” Mr Anosike earlier described the centenary celebration of Daily Times as a defining moment not only for the organisation but also for Nigerian journalism.

ADC Aspirant Hon Dakur Rejects Plateau Primaries, Demands Rerun in 7 LGAs, Cancellation in Jos North A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State, Hon. Jude Dakur, has rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primaries which produced retired General John Sura as candidate, alleging widespread irregularities, over-voting, result manipulation and exclusion of his agents from the exercise. Dakur, who spoke to newsmen in Jos, demanded a rerun of the primaries in seven Local Government Areas and the outright cancellation of results from Jos North Local Government Area. The aspirant alleged that no election took place in Jos East, Bassa, Pankshin, Kanam, Qua’an Pan and other affected areas, insisting that the exercise failed to comply with democratic standards and the party’s electoral guidelines. According to him, the results declared from Jos North were marred by massive over-voting and manipulation, alleging that over 27,000 votes were “concocted” in the council area. “I openly reject the outcome of the exercise because there were widespread electoral malpractices. In some of the areas mentioned, no election took place according to reports from my agents,” he said. Dakur also raised fresh concerns over the integrity of results from Mangu Local Government Area, alleging that figures had been altered and manipulated following alleged violence against electoral officers. He maintained that while results were originally recorded in Mangu, the figures were later changed, insisting that 13 out of 16 ward results had been tampered with. “The figures in Mangu have been changed. I want the results to be clearly stated as originally recorded. There is no chance for alteration,” he said during the interaction. The aspirant further alleged that the electoral officer in Mangu was beaten during the process, which he said contributed to the alleged alteration of results. Dakur maintained that the alleged irregularities in Jos North alongside other affected areas rendered the exercise fundamentally flawed. He further alleged that electoral officers were threatened by the State Organising Secretary of the party during the exercise, while some results were altered after submission. The aspirant also stressed that some of his agents were excluded from the process while others were assaulted during the primaries. “My agents were totally excluded. Some were even beaten,” he added. He maintained that the alleged over-voting, result doctoring and procedural violations rendered the outcome unacceptable to him and his supporters across the state. Dakur therefore called on the party’s Appeal Committee to critically review all complaints and order fresh primaries in the affected local government areas. “Those areas should face outright cancellation and reruns should be conducted. Otherwise, the outcome will not be acceptable to me and my supporters across the state,” he said. He insisted that he won 13 out of 16 wards in Mangu and questioned the alleged alteration of figures, alleging sabotage of the electoral process. Dakur, however, appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the party’s appeal process.

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has commenced engagements with stakeholders in Plateau State aimed at improving the ease of doing business and strengthening economic growth at the subnational level. Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Audu, said the visit was part of a nationwide tour of all 36 states to deepen reforms and ensure alignment between federal and state policies on business environment. She explained that the council held a technical session with the Plateau State Subnational Ease of Doing Business Council, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, and would also convene a town hall meeting with the organised private sector. According to her, the town hall meeting is designed to provide a platform for direct interaction between government officials and business operators in the state. “The idea is to interface with businesses, understand the peculiarities of doing business in Plateau State, and bring the government closer to the private sector,” she said. Audu noted that the session would feature interactive discussions and a panel where members of the state government would respond to concerns raised by business owners. She said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the Subnational Ease of Doing Business Council and ensuring that federal-level reforms are effectively implemented across states. Describing Plateau as the first state visited in the current round of engagements, Audu said feedback from the private sector would help shape policy adjustments tailored to the state’s unique business environment. “We expect that Plateau State will review some of its policies and reforms to make it easier for businesses to operate. Policymakers will take feedback from the private sector and make necessary improvements,” she added. Highlighting efforts by the Federal Government to support businesses, Audu said recent tax reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration were designed to ease the burden on small enterprises. She explained that individuals earning below three million naira annually are exempt from taxation, while small businesses benefit from favourable tax thresholds. She also noted that the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has been empowered to provide grants to nano businesses, alongside free business registration initiatives aimed at formalising the informal sector. “Formalisation builds trust and helps businesses grow. These measures are designed to encourage small businesses to scale without being overburdened by taxes,” she said. In her remarks, Plateau State government represented by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, commended PEBEC for selecting the state for the engagement. She described the visit as a recognition of the state government’s commitment to economic reforms and creating an enabling environment for investment. “For us, this is a partnership. It gives us the opportunity to assess our performance and improve on our processes to build a stronger economy,” she said. Ramnap disclosed that Plateau State has made significant progress in ease of doing business rankings, moving to sixth position from previously being unranked. . She said the government is focused on strengthening policies and stakeholder engagement to attract more investors into the state.
