Tinubu, Mutfwang, Akpabio ,several other dignitaries honour APC National chairman’s mother at funeral

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Saturday joined numerous dignitaries to pay their last respects to Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at her funeral service held at the Church of Christ in Nations headquarters in Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Yilwatda’s mother died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, in August 2025 at the age of 83

President Tinubu, in his remarks, described the late Mama Lydia as “a mother of the community, a mother of the state, and a humanitarian.”

Tinubu praised the APC National chairman as “a man of character and intellect” and commended the large turnout of governors, public officials, and dignitaries as a testament to the high regard for both the APC National Chairman and his mother.

“Let this day be one of joy and thanksgiving, even in mourning. The prayer of every mother is that her child succeeds and you will.

God will grant your prayers. Live a dedicated life, serve humanity, and remain faithful to God Almighty.”, Tinubu said.

The President further emphasized values of unity, contentment, and productive leadership, stating, “Hate is not an option for us. Love is what we must continue to preach, love for one another.”

Tinubu also highlighted his belief in religious freedom, saying, “We may differ in faith, but we pray to the same Almighty God, to whom we are all answerable.”

Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s presence, stating, “Your esteemed presence means so much to the immediate Yilwatda family and to the people of Plateau State in general.”

He thanked the President for his support in addressing insecurity in Plateau State, noting improvements in security conditions.

Mutfwang also appreciated Tinubu for appointing Prof. Yilwatda as APC National Chairman, likening it to an honor for Plateau State, reminiscent of former leaders like Chief Solomon Daushep Lar.

“While we are grateful for the honour of your presence at this solemn occasion, we also look forward to welcoming you again soon, Mr. President. We would be delighted if you could visit Plateau State again in the near future to see for yourself the extent to which we have keyed into your Renewed Hope Agenda with the resources available to us”, Mutfwang said

On his part, Senate President Akpabio praised COCIN’s contributions to the North Central region through schools, clinics, and health centers.

He referenced Prof. Yilwatda’s tribute to his mother, describing her as “a perfect portrait of the virtuous African woman, a true matriarch” who instilled values of humanity, diligence, compassion, and faith. Akpabio commended President Tinubu as “a unifier” who bridges faiths, regions, and political divides, evident from the diverse attendance at the funeral.

In his speech, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda expressed gratitude to God for extending his mother’s life beyond initial medical predictions by 47 years.

He portrayed his mother as a resilient and determined woman who worked tirelessly, selling akara and pap, running a shop, and managing market sales despite her health challenges.

Yilwatda highlighted her mother’s selflessness, noting she handed over her earnings to his father, who then distributed them as if they were his own.

“To His Excellency and all dignitaries, thank you for giving me a shoulder to cry on,” Prof. Yilwatda said.

He humorously declared himself President Tinubu’s “first son,” jokingly displacing the Governor of Niger State, who had earlier offered himself as the President’s son, asserting his veto power as APC Chairman to “collect his party card” if he doesn’t submit.

Our Correspondent reports that the remains of late Mama Lydia were later conveyed to the Kanke community, Kanke Local Government Area, for internment.

PoliticsNorth Central Development Commission Clarifies Budget Submission To NASS by Josepholome(op): 6:03am On Oct 04, 2025
By Golok Nanmwa , Jos.

The North Central Development Commission has reassured Nigerians especially people from the geopolitical zone of prudent use of it's funds earmarked for the commission.

This was contained in a statement from the commission and made available to reporters in Jos.

The statement reads that the attention of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has been drawn to media publications over the 2025 budget estimates of the Commission presented to the Senate Committee overseeing the Commission.

As a new Commission barely one month old, the NCDC has commenced the process for its full takeoff with the submission of a 140 Billion naira budget proposal to the national assembly.

The statement reads that "On the 30th September 2025, the Commission's management appeared before the Senate to defend the budget proposal and had a robust session where members of the Senate Committee on NCDC scrutinised the submission and received clarifications.

According to the commission' After receiving explanations at both open and closed sessions, the Senate Committee made observations and adjustments before finally giving its approval pending concurrence of the House Committee before final passage.

"It is therefore important to clarify that while the budget proposal of 140 billion naira was not altered, the figures allocation cited in the media reports do not take into consideration the adjustments made which will be reflected in the final document.'

They added that " The final budget approval will only be clear when the House Committee on North Central Development Commission carries out its legislative scrutiny and concurs with the Senate where the final accurate figures and line distributions will be authenticated and released. "

"We therefore wish to put on record that the 2025 budget proposal is a working document which is still in process and when finally passed, will operate within the life cycle of the national budget.'

According to the statement "While the NCDC appreciates concerns for the successful takeoff and implementation of key projects that will impact the North Central region, the Commission wishes to assure that it will operate in a transparent and accountable manner and also abide by extant financial regulations of the nation."

In executing its mandate, the NCDC Management will work closely with all stakeholders across the North Central States and FCT to ensure equity, and inclusivity by conducting thorough needs assessment and strategic consultaions in developing its roadmap.

PoliticsThe Political Significance Of President Tinubu’s Plateau Visit by Josepholome(op): 7:00pm On Oct 02, 2025
Beyond Condolence: The Political Significance of President Tinubu’s Plateau Visit
02 Oct 2025

Opinioncheesy.M. Long’gul

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned visit to Plateau State for the funeral of late Na, Lydia Yilwatda, the mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, is far more than a simple act of condolence.

It is worthy to note, that, this is the first official visit of Mr. President to Plateau state and reportedly only the second burial he has attended as Nigeria’s President, the first being the state burial of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This visit to Plateau, a state currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), carries significant political and symbolic weight for both the ruling APC and the entire Plateau community.

The primary political significance of the visit lies in its impact on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State. By attending the burial of the mother of the National Chairman, a Plateau son, President Tinubu is explicitly showing support and solidarity for the state’s most prominent APC figure. This move elevates Professor Yilwatda and his immediate political family, signaling to both party members and the electorate that the state’s APC leadership has a direct, potent connection to the seat of power.

This moment also offers the APC a rare opportunity for organic political mobilisation and visibility in an opposition-controlled state. The presidential entourage and media spectacle act as a massive, subtle rally, reinforcing the message that the ruling party at the centre is invested in the state.

While the hopes are high, the Governor seems to have Challenge and a Missed Opportunity because the presidential visit is typically an occasion for the host state government to showcase its achievements through project commissioning. In this instance, however, President Tinubu will not be using “two stones to kill one bird” by commissioning new projects. The incumbent Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang (PDP), faces the challenge of not having a major high-level project to present, two years into his administration.

Furthermore, the Governor himself has been quoted claiming his current legacies are focused on intangible achievements, they are “in the hearts of men and women of Plateau State” an assumption rooted in idealism without material demonstration. This lack of a tangible “showpiece” project leaves a void that opposition figures, easily highlight on the slightest criticism.

Given this context, the visit transforms into a high-stakes, politically exposed moment for the Governor. To mitigate the political embarrassment of having no tangible project for the President to commission, Governor Mutfwang can reach out to the chief mourner, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to persuade the President to at least hold a security-focused meeting with key stakeholders in the absence of projects.

Such a meeting would redirect the focus from the absence of projects to the critical issue of security, which is the most pressing concern for the people of Plateau. It would allow the Governor to demonstrate leadership and secure much-needed federal commitment, turning a potential political vulnerability into an opportunity for vital federal collaboration.

For the people of Plateau, the visit is a monumental event. It marks the President’s first physical presence in a state that has been grappling with persistent and devastating security challenges. The lack of a presidential visit despite the scale of the tragedies had become a painful point of criticism. Notwithstanding,President Tinubu’s presence now, while for a private mourning event, serves as a powerful symbol of federal attention because of the following:

Acknowledgement and Empathy: A presidential visit, regardless of its primary purpose, draws national focus to the state. It offers a crucial public opportunity for the President to directly and publicly address the ongoing security and humanitarian crisis in Plateau. A heartfelt statement on peace and security can go a long way in healing a traumatized populace and reassuring them of federal engagement.

Intensified Focus on Insecurity: The security and media attention that follows a sitting President could pressure security agencies to prioritize the region, potentially leading to a re-evaluation and recalibration of security strategies of the state

In this context, an old African proverb resonates with a clear and potent warning to the opposition PDP: “When a big tree falls, the ground feels it.”

The “big tree” is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his first visit to Plateau State has made the political ground rumble. This visit, ostensibly for a family burial, is fundamentally an act of investing political capital into the local APC structure through its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. The message is unmistakable: The ruling party, the APC, is not just a distant entity in Abuja; it now stands physically on the Plateau, demonstrating a direct, undeniable link to the nation’s highest office. For the opposition PDP, which currently holds the state, this is a clear signal to “watch out.” The presence of the President will reinforce the local APC chapter, boosts the morale of its members, and subtly reminds the electorate of the formidable power that backs the party at the national level.

By physically showing up, President Tinubu will deliver a powerful, non-verbal declaration that the APC is committed to reclaiming or strongly contesting the state.

While the PDP may boast of holding the state government, the political weight and influence brought by the President’s visit make it clear: The APC is stronger, more influential, and fully engaged in the battle for the hearts and minds of the Plateau people.

Lastly, the ground has indeed shaken, and the opposition must now reckon with the renewed strength of the political force that just landed on their territory.

PoliticsGovernor Mutfwang’s Vision For A Secure And Violence-free Plateau by Josepholome(op): 8:41am On Sep 22, 2025
By Gyang Bere

At the heart of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration lies an unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property in Plateau State. Since his inauguration in May 2023, the Governor has consistently emphasized that peace and security are not just constitutional obligations but also the foundation upon which social and economic recovery must be built. He recognizes that without security, there can be no meaningful industrialization, innovation, or job creation that guarantees wealth and prosperity for the people.

In his inaugural address, Governor Mutfwang vowed that security under his leadership would not be reduced to rhetoric. He pledged to be “firm, fair, and just to all, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious inclination.”

RESTORING HOPE AMID CRISIS

Barely weeks after his declaration as Governor-Elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in April 2023, the state was thrown into turmoil. His hometown, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Area, home of his Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo came under devastating attacks aimed at making the state ungovernable.

Rather than engage in blame games, Governor Mutfwang took decisive action. He visited Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Riyom, Barkin-Ladi, Mangu, and Bokkos, some of whom had lived in camps for nearly two decades. His presence and assurances brought renewed hope to traumatized families, who for the first time felt that government genuinely cared about their plight.

Governor Mutfwang also reframed the narrative of Plateau’s insecurity. Instead of the often-repeated rhetoric of “herder-farmer clashes,” he courageously defined the killings as genocide against defenseless rural communities. Security experts and public commentators have since upheld this perspective, noting the systematic and coordinated nature of the attacks that left behind deaths, destruction, and displacement.

ENGAGING NATIONAL SECURITY STAKEHOLDERS

Understanding the magnitude of the crisis, Governor Mutfwang personally embarked on a strategic tour of security institutions in Abuja. He engaged the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Inspector-General of Police, DSS, Immigration, Customs, Civil Defence, Correctional Service, NEMA, and ultimately, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

His mission was clear: to present the true narrative of Plateau’s decades-long violence and to extract firm commitments from national security leaders. The outcome was remarkable. For the first time in years, top security chiefs visited Plateau and deployed access to threatened communities, averting imminent disaster.

This engagement led to the establishment of new Police Mobile Force squadrons in Gashish (Barkin-Ladi) and Bassa LGAs, alongside MOPOL 81 in Kwall now regarded as one of the most equipped mobile squadrons in Nigeria. These units are currently active in Bassa, Riyom, and Jos South, safeguarding communities and deterring crime.

SECURITY INTERVENTIONS AT THE STATE LEVEL

Governor Mutfwang also revived Operation Rainbow, a state-owned security outfit established under former Governor Jonah Jang but left dormant for years. Initially, 600 trusted youths and community leaders were recruited, trained, and equipped from vulnerable communities in Mangu, Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Jos South. Their intelligence-gathering efforts have already foiled several planned attacks. Plans are underway to recruit an additional 1,450 youths to strengthen grassroots security in the Operation Rainbow across the 17 local government areas.

To enhance mobility and response capacity, the administration repaired dozens of abandoned operational vehicles, procured new Hilux vans, and supplied motorcycles, raincoats, and boots to security personnel. Through collaboration with local governments, 17 brand-new Hilux vehicles were also acquired for Operation Rainbow.

A State Security and Information Centre was launched with a toll-free line to enable citizens to report threats or suspicious activities, ensuring swift and coordinated responses. The government also established a Plateau Special Activities Centre, equipped with modern surveillance technology, to monitor movements across all 17 LGAs.

RESETTLEMENT AND RECONCILIATION EFFORTS

Beyond immediate security, Governor Mutfwang is focused on restoring dignity to displaced persons. In 2024, he set up a Resettlement Committee to plan the safe return of IDPs to their ancestral homes. Its recommendations emphasized the need for enduring security before resettlement begins in full.

In May 2025, he inaugurated a Fact-Finding Committee tasked with identifying affected communities, ASSESSING level of destruction, tracing attack routes, unmasking perpetrators, and recommending comprehensive interventions.

Furthermore, recognizing the role of dialogue in sustaining peace, the Governor established a State Inter-Religious Advisory Committee, which has been actively engaging different faith and ethnic groups to resolve tensions and prevent conflicts.

BUILDING A NEW PLATEAU

Governor Mutfwang’s vision is clear: Plateau will not be defined by insecurity. His administration is steadily rebuilding trust among communities, reconnecting displaced populations with their homes, and restoring the sense of security that underpins all development.

By prioritizing security, strengthening collaboration with national institutions, empowering local communities, and fostering dialogue across divides, Governor Mutfwang is laying a solid foundation for a secure, united, and prosperous Plateau State.

PoliticsDon’t Give Audience To Who Attack Our Party In Their States - Forum To Tinubu by Josepholome(op): 10:12am On Sep 21, 2025
Stop giving audience to opposition govs who attack our party members in their states - APC Forum tells Tinubu

The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has urged President Bola Tinubu to stop giving audience to governors of opposition parties who harass and intimidate APC members in their states.

The North-Central APC Forum, which made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its Chairman, Alhaji Salleh Zazzaga, said Tinubu and those in his inner circle should "stop entertaining" the opposition governors because they do not mean well for the President and the APC.

Although the North-Central APC Forum did not name the concerned governors, several opposition governors, including Ademola Adeleke, Osun, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; Chukwuma Soludo, Anambra, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Caleb Mutfwang, Plateau, PDP, are known to enjoy easy access and close relationships with President Tinubu.

Adeleke and Soludo, who are seeking re-election in off-cycle elections coming up in Osun and Anambra states, respectively, have openly suggested that Tinubu is backing their second term bids - even against APC candidates.

In June 2025, during the Sallah holidays, Tinubu received the Osun governor at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In a similar development, Tinubu, in August, received Soludo in the Presidential Villa for a private meeting.

In the same vein, Mutfwang was part of Tinubu's delegation during his recent state visit to Brazil. The Plateau governor said he received a special invitation for the state visit from Tinubu.

However, in the statement signed by Zazzaga, a member of the APC campaign council in the 2023 election, the North-Central APC Forum said the concerned opposition governors are not sincere in their relationship with the President.

Urging Tinubu to concentrate on APC members, the Forum said the opposition governors are taking advantage of Tinubu's "large heartedness" and accommodating disposition, telling him the "rights things" in his face while working against him behind his back.

"The North-Central APC Forum urges President Bola Tinubu to stop entertaining opposition governors who go to him with deception and lies. They say nice things when they meet Mr President but when they go back to their states they do a different thing altogether.

"They pretend to be nice when they come before Mr President but when they leave his presence and go back to their states they take actions that are against the interest of Mr President and the APC.

"These governors harass and intimidate innocent APC members in their states. They go as far as using the instruments of government to frustrate the legitimate businesses of law abiding APC members who are working hard to survive.

"APC members are being hounded to the extent that their personal properties are being demolished, or are marked for demolition, by these opposition governors and their agents.

"This ugly situation is playing out in states being governed by the opposition, particularly in the North-Central, as well as in other parts of the country. As dedicated members and stakeholders whose only interest is the growth and progress of the party, we felt we should draw President Bola Tinubu's attention to this sinister situation.

"This has become even more imperative as we approach elections in some states led by the opposition, where the incumbent governors, who are not members of our party, are dropping Mr President's name, claiming to have secured his endorsement while they at the same time unleash the machinery of the state against APC candidates and members.

"These opposition governors, due to their undeserving access to Mr President, are carrying on as if the APC is not existing in their states. They drop Mr President's name while doing everything possible to subdue APC members and weaken our party. This is not acceptable and should not be allowed to continue," parts of the statement said.

The North-Central APC Forum noted that the situation is demoralizing for APC members in the concerned states

"Continuing to entertain these opposition governors would give the wrong and false impression that President Bola Tinubu is in support of their victimisation of APC members in their states.

"We urge Mr President to act immediately to clear this wrong impression by withdrawing access and other unmerited privileges being enjoyed by these ungrateful and deceitful opposition governors," the statement added.

The North-Central APC Forum in the same vein urged Tinubu to call the opposition governors to order, and warn them to stop the victimisation of APC members in their states.

Stressing the need for Tinubu to concentrate on APC members, the Forum said the opposition governors should defect and join the APC if they so desire, rather than pretending to be with Tinubu while working against his party (APC).

"If they wish to defect to the APC they should defect and become part of the APC family. They should not go to Mr President and tell him nice things only to do the opposite behind his back. That is unacceptable. Ahead of the off-cycle elections and the 2027 election, Mr Presidential should focus all attention on the APC and it's members," the North-Central APC Forum further insisted.

PoliticsCoalition Laud Tinubu, TANTITA Over Historic Reduction In Oil Theft by Josepholome(op): 3:52pm On Sep 15, 2025
Coalition Commends Tinubu Administration, Security Agencies, Tantita Over Historic Reduction in Oil Theft

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (CPD), an umbrella body of civil society organizations, has hailed the monumental success in the fight against crude oil theft and vandalism, citing official data that shows Nigeria recorded its lowest oil losses in 16 years.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, CPD spokesman, Dr. Gabriel Nwambu, said recent figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) point to a dramatic turnaround in the nation’s oil sector, attributing the progress to decisive government action, security operations, and community-based private partnerships.

According to the NUPRC, Nigeria’s daily crude oil losses in July 2025 dropped to 9,600 barrels per day, a sharp decline from an average of 102,900 barrels per day at the peak of 2021.

The report shows a 44 percent reduction in 2022, followed by a 79 percent reduction in 2023, with sustained declines through 2024 and the first seven months of 2025. This, the coalition noted, represents a 94.57 percent drop compared to the 2021 peak.

“The statistics tell a compelling story of progress,” Nwambu said. “This monumental success is a direct consequence of strategic political will and effective collaboration. We stand here today to commend the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration for demonstrating the courage and commitment to address this long-standing crisis head-on.”

The coalition, which comprises the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Initiative for Ecology, Climate and Environmental Rescue, Coalition for Democratic Watchdogs, Initiative for Voter Awareness and Electoral Reforms, Global Centre for Conscious Living Against Corruption, and other groups, lauded the government for providing “the enabling environment and strategic support” that made the turnaround possible.

It also praised Nigeria’s security agencies for their “unwavering commitment” to what it described as a “kinetic approach”—directly confronting and dismantling theft networks that had long sabotaged the nation’s oil sector.

A significant portion of the coalition’s commendation was directed at Tantita Security Services Limited, a private security firm working with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).

Nwambu said Tantita’s “deep operational knowledge” and its collaborative model involving local communities had proven decisive in detecting illegal refining sites and securing critical pipelines.

“This is a model for success that harnesses both professional expertise and local intelligence, creating a formidable deterrent against criminal activity,” he said.

The coalition stressed that the benefits of the progress extend far beyond the oil sector, pointing to the fiscal implications. “The dramatic reduction in crude oil losses translates directly into increased revenue for our nation,” Nwambu stated.

“This means more funds are available for critical government projects that will benefit every citizen, from building roads and schools to providing healthcare and social services.”

He added that the development not only boosts Nigeria’s global oil market standing but also strengthens investor confidence, paving the way for further growth and job creation.

Calling for continuity, the CPD urged the government to sustain and protect the collaborative model, warning that any disruption could “risk a rapid relapse into the high-loss era, jeopardizing the economic gains that have been so hard-won.”

“In conclusion, we salute the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, our dedicated security agencies, and Tantita Security Services Limited for this national achievement,” Nwambu declareda. “The numbers speak for themselves, and we are confident that a sustained commitment to this model will bring about greater prosperity and a more secure future for all Nigerians.”

The address was signed by representatives of six organizations: Dr. Gabriel Nwambu (Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness), Malik Momoh (Initiative for Ecology, Climate and Environmental Rescue), Briggs Ironbar (Coalition for Democratic Watchdogs), Sepuloe Fineface (Initiative for Voter Awareness and Electoral Reforms), Dagogo West (Global Centre for Conscious Living Against Corruption), and Comrade Peter Nwokolo (Citizens Rights & Leadership Awareness Initiative).

Educational ServicesPAP Deploys Over 140 Foreign Scholarship Beneficiaries by Josepholome(op): 2:39pm On Sep 12, 2025
•••We’re Complementing Tinubu’s Development Agenda For N’Delta- Otuaro

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has deployed over 140 beneficiaries it awarded scholarships for post-graduate studies across universities in the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the pre-departure briefing/orientation ceremony for the foreign scholarship beneficiaries at the PAP headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday, the Administrator, Dr Dennis Otuaro, expressed the hope that they would add value to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria when they complete their studies.

At the event, brand new laptops were distributed to the post-graduate scholarship beneficiaries aimed at enhancing their studies and research.

Otuaro said the human resource base of the Niger Delta would be enriched when they finished their programmes, and also contribute to efforts at reducing the region’s human capital development gap.

He stressed that the massive deployment under the PAP’s formal education component complemented President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the region.

Otuaro explained that the beneficiaries were deployed for studies in industry-competitive and professional disciplines, noting that “with the knowledge they will acquire, they will contribute to the development of the region and the nation in general.”

The PAP boss further said, “If you put the number of beneficiaries we are deploying today together, over 140, all of them are going for post-graduate studies in universities in the United Kingdom.

“We are confident that when they complete their studies and return, they will add value to the socio-economic advancement of the Niger Delta, and the human capacity resource of the region will be enriched. They will add value to our communities, the region, and the nation.

“What we are doing today is a deliberate effort to take the development agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to the people in the communities of the Niger Delta.

“When the President appointed me last year, he gave me a mandate and that is to take this programme to the people. That is what we are doing.

“We have other aspects of the PAP. However, this foreign post-graduate scholarship deployment takes cognizance of professional areas that are industry-competitive. We also deploy beneficiaries for other programmes in-country.”

He, therefore, advised them to shun distractions and take their studies seriously in order to justify the Federal Government’s investment in their education, and be good ambassadors of their families, communities, the Niger Delta and the country.

Also, the Technical Assistant to the PAP Administrator, Edgar Daniel; the Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. M.O Erebulu; and the Head of PAP’s Education Department, Dr Charles Ariye delivered talks on cultural/social dynamics of studying in the UK and Europe, the diplomatic and security implications of studying abroad, and the academic dynamics of studying in the UK, respectively, to guide the beneficiaries’ conduct.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Gift Gbaminido and Amadimati Greatman, thanked the PAP Administrator for awarding them post-graduate scholarships to study abroad, and pledged to make good use of the opportunity.

Signed:
Mr Igoniko Oduma
Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme.

PoliticsBarr. Mantu Lauds President Tinubu Over His Appointment As Board Member NCDC by Josepholome(op): 12:08pm On Sep 09, 2025
The newly appointed Board Member of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), representing Plateau State, Dr. Barr. Umar Mantu, has commenced his post-appointment engagements with a symbolic and heartfelt visit to his hometown, Gindiri, in Mangu Local Government Area.

In a show of humility and deep-rooted cultural values, Dr. Mantu’s first official act was to visit the Hakimi Palace in Gindiri District, where he sought prayers and blessings from traditional rulers and his people. The visit, he said, was a deliberate step to show appreciation to his roots and receive spiritual and communal backing before assuming his duties in the newly created commission.

“This is home, and before I go anywhere else or step into the office, I must return to seek the blessings of my people. That is the foundation I want to build upon,” Dr. Mantu said during the palace visit.

Dr. Mantu expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his appointment, describing it as a sign of the President’s commitment to the development of Plateau State and the entire North Central region. He lauded the creation of the NCDC as a visionary move aimed at accelerating socio-economic progress in the region.

“President Tinubu’s creation of the North Central Development Commission is not only historic but a clear reflection of his belief in the potential of our region. I am deeply honored to be part of this mandate,” he said.

He also extended his appreciation to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, under whom he served. Dr. Mantu highlighted that his experience working closely with Prof. Yilwatda revealed his commitment to transparency, good governance, and impactful service delivery, qualities he pledged to uphold in his new role.

"Serving under Prof. Yilwatda gave me a firsthand understanding of strategic governance. His passion for transparent and efficient leadership is contagious, and I plan to carry that same energy into my role as Board Chairman,” he added.

Dr. Mantu also thanked the National Assembly for the successful passage of the bill establishing the NCDC, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to a people-centred development approach. He emphasized that such legislative backing provides the necessary framework for lasting socio-economic transformation in the North Central region.

Following his visit to the palace, Dr. Mantu hosted a warm reception with APC stakeholders and party loyalists in the Pyem Chiefdom, reinforcing the saying that “charity begins at home.” The event served as both a celebration and a call for unity as he embarked on this new journey.

In the coming days, Dr. Mantu is expected to extend his courtesy visits and engagements to other parts of Plateau State, strengthening relationships and fostering collaboration for the success of the commission's mandate.

The North Central Development Commission was recently established by the Federal Government to address developmental challenges and unlock economic opportunities across the North Central geopolitical zone, which includes Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa States, and the Federal Capital Territory.

PoliticsGEJ Is 100% Legally Qualified: Jonathan's Cousin Tells Keyamo, Odinkalu by Josepholome(op): 6:13pm On Sep 01, 2025
GEJ is 100% legally qualified": Jonathan's cousin, Azibaola, tells Keyamo, Odinkalu over 2027 presidency

Azibaola Robert, who is a close relative of Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that the former president is constitutionally and legally qualified to contest the 2027 Nigerian general elections.

This statement comes amid growing calls from stakeholders who view Jonathan as the only opposition figure capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election cycle.

Jonathan was President of Nigeria from May 5, 2010, to May 29, 2015. He first assumed office as acting president on February 9, 2010, following the illness and death of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.

The National Assembly later invoked the "doctrine of necessity" to transfer power to him, due to Yar'Adua's prolonged absence without a formal transmission of power.

He then ran for and won the 2011 presidential election under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), securing 58.89% of the vote against Muhammadu Buhari and others.

His presidency lasted until May 29, 2015, when he handed over power to Buhari after losing the 2015 election.

With Tinubu now in office, Nigeria’s opposition remains divided between the PDP and the Labour Party, with uncertainties surrounding the political platforms of key figures like Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Stakeholders argue that Jonathan’s national appeal and experience make him the strongest candidate to unify the opposition and challenge the APC.

However, Jonathan’s potential candidacy seems to be unsettling the ruling party.

Festus Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Minister of Aviation, urged the PDP not to nominate Jonathan, while Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, a prominent human rights lawyer, suggested that the former president is constitutionally ineligible to run.

In his reaction, Robert Azibaola, who is a cousin of the former president, maintained that Jonathan is constitutionally qualified to contest the next elections if he chooses to.

*He emphasised that if GEJ chooses not to yield to the overwhelming calls to contest, it would not be because he is not qualified.*

*He reminded both Keyamo and Odinkalu that he is also a lawyer who was also a prodemocracy activist in the 1990s, adding that, although his comment does not confirm Jonathan's candidacy.*

Azibaola wrote on his Facebook page:

"Dear Festus Keyamo, SAN, Chidi Odinkalu(Prof.), I greet both of you. For the record, we are three lawyers.

"We all were pro-democracy activists in the 90s, and I was a better activist than both of you combined.

"RULE NO. 1: Do not offer legal advice where none is solicited. Goodluck Jonathan has numerous, more celebrated, more experienced SANs at his disposal who give him sound, unblemished, professional legal advice only.

"GEJ is 100% constitutionally and legally qualified to contest if he chooses to. If he chooses not to yield to his overwhelming calls to contest, it would not be because he is not qualified.

"Your screwed, unsolicited legal view is not of any concern in his bucket list, and it will never be. Don't waste your precious times further dwelling on this.

"Or should you schedule a meeting with me so you can get properly educated on the subsisting court judgements on this, one of which your party, APC, was a party?

"I beg una, make we no dey put too much water inside belle for another person disco dance, make long line no form for latrine door.

"#This is not a confirmation that GEJ is running, though."

FamilyAmid Hunger, Nwaoma Foundation Feed Nigerias In Imo, Abuja, Lagos by Josepholome(op):
Nwaoma Foundation has intervened in the growing hunger across Nigeria, providing food for Nigerians in Lagos, Imo and Abuja.

The foundation, a brainchild of Nwaoma Ukachukwu, a Nigerian-born model and prophetess has been in the vanguard of taking the poor off the streets in most parts of Nigeria.

Recognizing the rising hunger across Africa and Nigeria, the foundation recently took a bold step to the streets of the nation’s capital, Abuja, to distribute palliatives to those most in need.

The Abuja outreach touched communities in Kubwa, Dutse-Alhaji, Sokale, Dutse Makaranta, Ushafa, and several others.

Food and other items including bread and drinks were distributed to people amid cheers and appreciation.

This is similar to the Lagos outreach where massive crowd greeted the motorcade conveying and distributing the palliatives.

The Abuja outreach coincided with Miss Ukachukwu’s birthday which held only a few days ago.

Speaking on the outreach, Ukachukwu said while it may not seem like much, “this is our humble way of contributing to the growth of a nation so richly blessed, yet burdened by widespread poverty. For a nation to thrive, its people must first survive — and we want our nation to thrive.

“At NWAOMA Foundation, we remain committed to supporting the less privileged through various initiatives.

“Recently, we extended our efforts to Lagos, showing solidarity with the poor and disadvantaged. Like the Abuja outreach, the response was overwhelming.

“If we haven’t reached your area yet, please bear with us. We promise to do better next time.

“Our core mandate at NWAOMA Foundation is to support both the government and vulnerable communities in building the Nigeria of our dreams — and a more peaceful world for all humanity.”

Some of the beneficiaries commended the foundation for giving back to the streets at this critical time characterized by hunger and hardship.

Recall that in line with the vision of the founder, Miss Ukachukwu, NOF, had in 2019 distributed food and other items to women, children and the girl-child who are mostly considered vulnerable under harsh economic conditions.

The foundation had provided homes and accommodation for many disadvantaged children in many parts of the country including other Africa countries

One of the toughest times for the foundation was during the COVID-19 pandemic when the foundation shouldered a major responsibility of distributing food, drinks and clothing items to many Nigerians.

As a follow-up to the effect of the pandemic, NOF, reached out to woman in Lagos and Owerri, empowering them with capital to start business and securing shops for them to do their business. Some people whose shops were demolished were given a fresh hope through the foundation as it rented new shops for them.

The foundation has since the past four years been involved in the payment of school fees of disadvantaged children, sending cash to poor families, lifting many out of poverty and difficult situations. The foundation has not only played a major role in taking people out of poverty, it has equally helped in reducing the growing cases of drug addiction and abuse.

PoliticsRigging Fears In Edo, Kaduna As Opposition Alleges Manipulation, Cooked Result by Josepholome(op): 9:29am On Aug 15, 2025
*Rigging Fears Grip Edo, Kaduna as Opposition Alleges Prewritten Results, Armed Thugs, and Compromised INEC Officials*

Fears of large scale manipulation have cast a shadow over Saturday’s by elections in Edo and Kaduna States, as opposition parties and election monitors allege prewritten results in Government House, deployment of “notorious” INEC officials, plans to use the police to lock out agents from collation centres, and the recruitment of thousands of armed thugs to intimidate voters. While the ruling party has denied wrongdoing, the allegations have ignited concerns that the August 16 polls could become another flashpoint for Nigeria’s crisis of electoral trust.

In Abuja, the Coalition of Observer Groups in Nigeria has expressed deep concern over what it described as credible reports of plans to undermine the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency elections by the APC. In a statement signed by the group’s chairman, Comrade Simon Diogu, the coalition warned that tactics similar to those alleged during the September 2024 governorship election, including the unlawful preparation of duplicate result sheets before collation and the use of the police to harass and intimidate opposition party members and voters, could resurface.

The September 2024 governorship election left what the group called a lingering crisis of confidence after allegations of duplicate results and questionable collation practices went unresolved by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The coalition cautioned that any repetition of such acts would further erode public trust in the electoral system and would pose a growing threat to the stability of Nigeria’s democracy.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that results are being written in Government House ahead of Saturday’s vote. He further claimed that “squadrons of police will be brought in on Friday to prevent us from entering the collation centre on Saturday.”

The PDP chieftain also raised alarm over the perceived deployment of two controversial INEC officials from Rivers State, Suleiman Blessing, Electoral Officer for Ovia North East, and Williams Alamina, Electoral Officer for Ovia South West, both of whom, he alleged, “played very uncomfortable roles during the September 2024 Edo State governorship elections.”

“This is what INEC, APC and the Police did during the governorship elections last year and they want to do the same thing again. If they succeed then Nigerians should just forget about elections in 2027 as they will do the same thing then ask us to go to court,”
he said.

The coalition urged Governor Monday Okpebholo, whose home constituency is Edo Central, to publicly condemn alleged threats made by his supporters against opposition candidates on social media, and to guarantee peaceful, violence free elections in his capacity as the state’s Chief Security Officer.

In Kaduna State, the African Democratic Congress and the Social Democratic Party have accused the state’s APC led government of assembling a massive operation to sabotage the by elections, distort the process and steal the elections.

The two parties, contesting in Chikun Kajuru Federal Constituency and state constituencies in Sabon Gari and Zaria, alleged that about 4,000 thugs have been recruited from within and outside Kaduna to intimidate voters and opposition party officials at polling units and collation centres.

They further claimed that senior INEC officials and technical staff are being compromised with inducements, including allocations of land, and that each of the state’s 23 local government councils has been compelled to contribute N30 million to an election sabotage fund. An additional N4.8 billion, they alleged, has been provided from Abuja for vote buying, bribing electoral officers and corrupting security agents.

The coalition of the two parties named a serving Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and a disgraced former senator notorious for orchestrating electoral violence as key figures in the alleged plot.

Both in Edo and Kaduna, opposition groups and election monitors have called on INEC to act swiftly to protect the integrity of the process, including replacing allegedly compromised officials, ensuring open and verifiable collation, and guaranteeing security for voters and party agents.

Neither INEC nor the Nigerian Police have responded to these allegations.
