Politics / No Party Member Will Be Disenfranchised - Gov. Uzodimma by Josepholome: 8:04am On May 21, 2021
ASKS OKOROCHA TO PICK A DATE AND TIME & HE WILL LEAD THE DELEGATION TO WATCH HIM REVALIDATE HIS MEMBERSHIP

The APC National registration appeal led by Alhaji Farouk Adamu Aliyu on Thursday paid a working visiting to Gov. Hope Uzodimma at the Sam Mbakwe EXCO chamber, Government House to appeal for the integration of Sen Rochas Okorocha, Sen Ararume, Dan Nwafor and a few others into the just concluded APC National registration exercise.

The head of the delegation , Alhaji Farouk Aliyu noted that the visit was necessitated by petitions written by Sen Rochas okorocha to the care taker national leadership of the party on his exclusion from the concluded party registration exercise.

"we are here having received complaints from some members that were not registered, we held meeting with the pettitioners who have spoken to us that they were refused registration, we have had their complaints, we assured them that they shall be registered, we also had interaction with the chairman of imo APC chief Macron Nlemigbo , from his own side of the story. From the discussions we discovered that there was a communication gap, we are here to ensure that level playing ground is giving to all APC members willing to register. Your Excellency, please treat this complaints as a family affairs. We are impressed with the massive turn out of members in registering with the party, we hope other states would emulate imo state"

In Response, Gov. Hope Uzodimma appreciated the APC National registration appeal committee led by Alhaji Farouk Aliyu for coming to see and hear things for theirselves noting that the registration exercise was open to all members and none members alike.

Gov Hope Uzodimma stated that he was not unaware that some people wanted to hijack the process but failed hence directing their followers not to participate in the registration.

"I am not unaware that some people wanted to hijack the process, but what I assured everybody is that nobody would be excluded , I recall getting a phone call from the Governor of Niger state telling me that Sen Okorocha complained he was refused registration. Contrary to his position here, where he directed his followers not to go and register, I even offered the Niger state Governor to get a date from Okorocha and possibly join me in Imo to receive him in his ward and supervise his registration.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma reiterated that his interest was for the growth of the party, hence wouldn't work to exclude anybody from registering and if possible he would have registered people outside the state to get the desired number he was looking for.
"What is the point of going to Calabar to lobby people to join our party, if am in my state excluding people from registering into the party, the APC before I became the Governor can never be the same. APC then was not managed by the people, it was difficult mentioning the party in any church, but now APC is like a national anthem everywhere in Imo state.

"Why will I struggle for structure, before I became the candidate, we were excluded from the Congresses, if not for the direct primaries we wouldn't have had any chance, not even my ward chairman , everything was controlled by former Governor Okorocha the way he wanted, but by the grace of God, APC came with that popular policy of direct primaries where the people were allowed to vote . The same way I benefited from the direct primaries, people should prepare, do their home work , they may benefit from direct primary. Go home, feel free to call me anytime, if there is anything we are not doing well, if my attention is called to it, it would be corrected, I will do my best to ensure that things are done the right way".

Politics / 2023 Igbo Presidnecy And El-rufai's Hallusinations by Josepholome: 2:33pm On May 12, 2021
By Collins Ughalaa KSC

Nasir el-Rifai, Governor of Kaduna State, is considered one of the intelligent guys from the North. Eloquent? No doubt. But garrulous. Oftentimes he displays characteristics unbecoming of someone of his pedigree. He has the capacity to bless with one side of his mouth and curse with the other side of the mouth. Under him Kaduna State has become a slaughter house, a den of kidnappers and haven for all forms of banditry. Pundits say his divisive politics in Kaduna State fuels the crisis.

Former Economic Adviser to former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Director of the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE), and former Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, El-Rufai should understand the problems that plague Nigeria better than many people. But that is not the case. His comments are erratic, inciting and indifferent. His big ego and unbridled appetite for power prevent him from seeing the larger picture. He wants to be Buhari's successor if the All Progressives Congress (APC) retains its presidential ticket in the North; or Vice President, if the party zones its presidential ticket to the South. He appears not to care whether Nigeria burns, whether he would preside over a fragmented Nigeria, or not.

On Thursday, May 6, Punch newspaper in its editorial entitled “Nigeria is sleepwalking into war” painted a graphic picture of the Nigerian conundrum. Citing recent killing of three of the kidnapped 23 undergraduates of Greenfield University in El-Rufai’s Kaduna State, the newspaper further quoted the Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, saying: “This nation is at war, yet we continue to pretend that these are mere birth-pangs of a glorious entity.” Punch noted that Boko Haram alone has killed over 100,000 persons and displaced others numbering millions. Besides, insurgents are taking over territories in the North once more. The editorial also quoted El-Rufai’s government in Kaduna State disclosing that 393 persons had lost their lives between January and March 2021; 926 kidnapped within the sane period.

Kaduna is not the only troubled State in the country. With reports of 741 Nigerians killed and over 1,000 kidnapped in the first 96 days in office of the new Service Chiefs, nothing else confirms that all parts of Nigeria are in one pang of distress or the other. The Southeast, for example, is currently witnessing insecurity. There have been attacks on security formations and other government owned institutions in recent time. On Monday, April 5, unknown gunmen attacked the Custodial Center in Owerri, the Police Command and military checkpoint at Ukwu Orji along Owerri-Onitsha Road. Few days later, the group launched a dare-devil attack on the house of the Governor in his village at Omuma, Oru East LGA. There have been similar attacks in other states of the Southeast. The Southwest is also going through its own pangs of distress. Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun States are currently being atrophied by insecurity. The police in Lagos State few days ago raised the alarm that groups plan to attack the State. The story is not different in the South-south.

The crisis bedeviling Nigeria has its roots in marginalization. This is pushing Nigeria to the precipice. Nigeria needs to be saved. Sadly, while patriotic Nigerians are shopping for solutions, Governor El-Rufai in whose Kaduna State 23 students were kidnapped in broad day light and three of them killed - while their kidnappers demanded N800M ransome, still has the motivation to lecture Ndigbo on how to go about their legitimate demand to produce the next president.

On Saturday, May 8, the media reported El-Rufai to say: “I don’t think anyone has stopped the Southeast from going for the presidency. But you see, you cannot get the Presidency of Nigeria by threats or by shouting victimhood. This is a political process and you have to engage other parts of Nigeria to convince them to support you. That is what everyone does. That is what Jonathan did in 2011; that is what Buhari did in 2015 and 2019. That is what every President does. You don’t stay in your corner, abuse everyone in Nigeria and say give me Presidency. It is not going to happen. Presidency is not by allocation. It is the result of a political process. You join a political party, your party negotiates with other parts of the country and it happens. That is how it is done. And you cannot get it by sitting down or threatening secession. It won’t work. I think the Southeast is going about it the wrong way because if you look at the APC for instance, we do not have many footprints in the Southeast.”

In the rave of the moment, El-Rufai conveniently forgot that no part of the country has all of its citizens in one political party. Not even his Kaduna State. In the face of this, it is erroneous that the APC does not have "many footprints in the Southeast". Furthermore, it is shocking how El-Rufai stereotypes Ndigbo. His veiled reference to the IPOB and seeing Ndigbo in that light is condemnable. IPOB has been agitating for the Republic of Biafra. They cite years marginalisation as reason. But El-Rufai chose to see every Igbo man as members of the IPOB, as if everyone in the North is a member of Boko Haram or the bandits.

Igbo leaders have since made the point that they want a structured Nigeria where justice and equity reign. The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, for example, says that Ndigbo want fairness and equity, peace, progress and unity. Fairness and equity would bring us to see the need to support Ndigbo for the presidency. In a recent interview in Abuja, Prof Obiozor emphasized the “compellingly reasonable” need for the rest of Nigeria “to support the Southeast to produce the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the next time around”. He said that doing so would provide a sense of balance and sense of belonging, crucial in resolving the Nigeria dilemma.

In July 2017, Igbo leaders, including the five governors of the zone: Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Willie Obiano of Anambra and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi; Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was then the Deputy President of the Senate; and other members of the National Assembly, former Senate Presidents: Senators Adolphus Wabara and Ken Nnamani, then President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, and his predecessor, Enwo Igariwey; former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Ebitu Ukiwe, former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ogbonna Onovo, and a former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hillary Opara, Deputy Governors, State Assembly Speakers, religious leaders and traditional rulers, rose from a closed-door meeting and restated the commitment of Ndigbo to a restructured, united Nigeria. The position of Igbo leaders on a restructured, united Nigeria was taken in the midst of intensified agitations for the creation of Biafra by IPOB and MASSOB. This is unlike the attitude of some leaders in the North towards the crisis in the area. Yet, El-Rufai does not see it.

Since his emergence as the Governor of Imo State and leader of the APC in Southeast, Governor Hope Uzodimma has maintained that Igbo people do not want to break away from the country, but to get justice and fair treatment in the country. “What Ndigbo want is justice, equity and fairness. A Nigeria that provides a level playing ground for all citizens. That is what we want. And we believe we can get what we want through constructive and tenacious engagement with fellow nationals and relevant institutions, not by violence or war".

In spite of all this, El-Rufai chose to classify Ndigbo as people “shouting victimhood”, as if they are weak people. If El-Rufai does not listen to the leaders of Ndigbo, he is missing the point. No leader in Igbo land will listen to bandits in Kaduna who roam the streets, kidnap students and demand ransome, and misconstrue same to be the voice of the people of the State.

If Nigerian leaders refuse to listen to the leaders of the various ethnic groups, including their state governors, and prefer listening to non-state actors, we may not have a country where people like El-Rufai would become Governor and aspire to become president. El-Rufai should change style. Nigeria is not all about him. He should lend his voice to the call for restructured Nigeria in order to enthrone justice and fairness. This will guarantee a united Nigeria for all of us. It will remove marginalization which is the root of the agitation in parts of the country. Then people like El-Rufai will have the space to pursue their political ambitions in a better Nigeria.

Ignoring the call for restructuring Nigeria and talking down on Ndigbo because of their 2023 presidency project is not in the best interest of the country.

Crime / Gov Uzodinma Issues Stern Warning To Bandits, Hoodlums And Criminals In Imo by Josepholome: 1:38pm On May 06, 2021
REMARKS BY GOVERNOR HOPE UZODIMMA ON THE OCCASION OF THE PRESENTATION OF SECURITY VEHICLES AND GADGETS TO OPERATION SEARCH AND FLUSH TEAM, ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 5TH, 2021.

Today's event heralds the presentation of more vehicles and security gadgets to our Operation Search and Flush team. It is a bold statement on our iron-clad resolve to flush out criminals from our dear state. It is a signal to bandits, hoodlums and trigger-happy criminals that their time is up in Imo State.

Again this event further underscores the fact that our government can never be intimidated by criminals and their sponsors. It also reaffirms our commitment to the protection of lives and property of all citizens of the state including those on transit.

You will recall that just a few days after I assumed office as the governor of Imo State, I inaugurated the security outfit known as Operation Search and Flush,(OSF), which brought together all the different security agencies to work as a team to fight every form of criminality. The objective then and now is to rout and root out every aspect of crime in our state. I empowered the outfit then with a record of 100 patrol vehicles and sophisticated communication equipments to help them achieve the objective. There is no doubt that that intervention yielded positive results, the recent pockets of crime here and there notwithstanding.

Let me; therefore, commend the heads of security agencies in Imo State and their men for their supportive roles in keeping Imo State and her citizenry safe. No matter what might have happened recently, the gallantry and sacrifices of these patriotic officers have never been in doubt. May I use this opportunity to commiserate with families of the officers who paid the supreme price in the course of executing their lawful duties. My administration will always do the needful to cushion the pains of these losses.

In like manner, we shall do all that we can to ameliorate the pains of families who lost their loved ones in the course of accidental engagements with security agencies. Our sincere condolences go to the affected families

My beloved people of Imo State, in a way we can say that today's event is part of our response to the evolving security challenges in the state. We are reinforcing what we started last year. We are reenergising the security architecture in the state to make it more proactive and result-oriented. These vehicles and equipment being donated by my administration are eloquent testimony to our resolve to confront and combat criminality headlong.

Furthermore, in the coming weeks, I shall be integrating the Imo State Vigilante outfit, otherwise known as Ebubeagu to complement the efforts of Operation Search and Flush, in fighting crime in the state.

Let me, therefore, use the auspicious occasion of this memorable event to declare a total war against crime, criminality and their sponsors in the state. In this regard, I am today declaring a zero-tolerance for crime in Imo State. From now onwards Imo State shall be a no go area for criminals. We shall take the war to the doorway of all criminals; their kindred, their hamlets and their hideout. We shall smoke them out and flush them out of Imo State.

Consequently, I hereby charge our security agencies to chase the criminals to their hideouts. All smoking joints where marijuana and other dangerous drugs are sold and used should be searched and flushed out. Henceforth, any landlord who avails his property to criminals, even smokers of weeds would be answerable to the law. In like manner, any traditional ruler in whose domain criminals abides and who fails to report same to relevant authorities will be held accountable.

We can no longer tolerate a situation whereby our state is used as a breeding haven for criminals.

To the good people of Imo State and residents, I say to you, you are Safe; go about your lawful engagements without any fear of molestation. No shaking. Your safety is guaranteed.

On that note, it is my pleasure to present these vehicles and equipments to the Operation Search and Flush outfit to further reinforce their operational capacity in the onerous task of protecting lives and property in Imo State.

Thank you. God bless Imo State

Politics / A Black Sunday At Awo-omamma by Josepholome: 9:41pm On Apr 26, 2021
In the wee hours of Sunday 25th of April,2021, Nigerian security agents laid siege on Obinna Victor’s hometown of Awo-omamma in Oru East LGA, Imo state. The siege was carried out based on allegations that Obinna is one of the sponsors of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) separatist organization and they received information that he was in his hometown for the Easter holiday. This unfounded allegation led to an inhumane attack on a peaceful village, resulting in casualties of innocent men, women and children, including a 13 year old girl.Obinna, who is the CEO of Optimum Obidon Nig. Ltd, an upright businessman is being hunted by his own people. His wife Oluchi and his parents have since gone into hiding. If such an act can be committed in his absence, one can only imagine what would have happened if they had found him at home.

Politics / Secondus Shuns Cross River LG Chairmen by Josepholome: 10:52pm On Apr 12, 2021
National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus Shuns delegation of Local Government Chairmen from Cross River State, led by Stephen Odey and Alphonsus Eba to the Party’s Headquarters in Abuja. The National Chairman on hearing of their fruitless and useless visit, left the Office in a hurry. An aide of the National Chairman had told the Delegation that the Chairman had not approved the visit, so they should not bother but they insisted and got a big embarrassment. They are right now, begging for an appointment for tomorrow.

The National Chairman cannot do anything to help the frustrated Party men who are sitting on the fence. The Supreme Court has ruled on the Issue of Ward and Chapter Excos. The Chairman of Party does not want to be charged for Contempt of Court. The Chairman has said, he will not go to Prison on account of anyone, not even for Gov Ayade and his group of errand boys. We hear the member Representing Obudu, Bekwarra and Obanliku avoided going on the visit. Ayade has sent his errand boys in another failed mission.

Ayade is trying to play the game of blackmail but getting it wrong. He is deceiving APC on the one hand, that he is defecting to APC and using it as a bargain tool to negotiate in PDP.

Ayade has failed. Let him go and rest. His time is up!

Gaming / Lottery Regulatory Commission Continues Sensitization Against Under Age Gaming by Josepholome: 11:44am On Mar 29, 2021
The National lotteries commission under the leadership Mr. Lanre Gbajabiamila has resumed its campaign against under age gaming in Nigeria. With the spike of under age gaming in the global gaming business, the NLRC is pulling all the stops to stem its rise in Nigeria with several media campaigns and interactive sessions.
The NLRC launched a radio and tv advertisement campaign in four different languages (English, Hausa, Yoruba and pidgin) to reach out to Nigerians warning them about the menace of underage gaming. These adverts were hosted on football panels and network radio stations in Nigeria to reach a diverse audience of young Nigerians.
A big part of the sensitization campaign is the Digital advertisements on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Nairaland. With more young Nigerians online, the NLRC promoted advertisements against under age gaming, warning about the repercussions of gambling before adulthood and promoted responsible gaming across platforms. A panel was also organized with industry stakeholders on Zoom to discuss the best ways to tackle under age gaming and chart a new strategy for the future.
The campaign against under age gaming was also taken to the streets in several cities like Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Port Hacourt and Kaduna. Merchendise like T-shirts, face caps, exercise books and pens were distributed to remind young people of the menace that is under age gaming and why it is important to stay away from this until they are adults.
The Lottery Regulatory commission has insisted that it will continue the sensitization campaign indefinitely as it has shown verifiable results in the drop in under age gaming, the commission also called on gaming companies to be strict with their KYC and costumer vetting in order to battle the menace together.

She noted that the Foundation recognises the Lagos State government’s efforts in the

provision of adequate pre-hospital care for trauma and emergency victims. She said that to further aid and support the ongoing laudable interventionist work in the health sector, the Foundation has been training volunteers in first aid skills and has formed a network of volunteers trained in first aid and basic emergency response called the TCIF First Responder Network.

“Furthermore, leveraging on technology, TCIF designed and developed the Trauma Care Emergency Response Application suites (TCERA

apps) which we are launching today.

“This network is made up of volunteers from all walks of life. They are willing citizens trained to provide first aid to those that need it.

“These two initiatives underscore TCIF’s commitment to improving emergency response and we have been actively engaged in expanding

the available pool of skilled first responders to improve outcomes of traumatic injuries in communities by recruiting, training and equipping volunteers, and also by strengthening collaborations with existing emergency response agencies,” Dr. Philips declared.

She disclosed that some of the strategic partners for the project include the Lagos State Ambulance Service, the Federal Road Safety Commission, the Nigerian Boy Scouts organization, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and others.

Dr. Philips expressed the hope that the deployment and the use of these applications within the Lagos Metropolis by its residents will not only help to reduce the morbidity and mortality rates associated with injuries, but their use will complement and lend support to the impact of the existing emergency response framework being commendably financed and managed by the Lagos State Government.

“We look forward to opportunities to collaborate with the existing trauma management structures both at state and local government

levels, and to scale up the deployment of the application across the nation,” she said.

The chairperson further said that numerous opportunities exist for relevant stakeholders and corporate organizations to collaborate with Trauma Care International Foundation in delivering the sustainable solutions towards contributing immensely to improving on the pre-hospital care available in Nigeria.

The Trauma Care Emergency Response APP (TCERA) has six steps to usage. The first stage is to download the APP from google Play; step two is sign up, then receive a passport; step three is to log in; step four, edit profile, step five, click on SOS button, and step six, provide details of the emergency.

Representative of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adeolu Arogundade, at the interactive session, enumerated the activities of the Lagos State government in trauma management in the state over the years, pointing out the challenges and the importance of collaboration between public and private actors. He emphasised the need to get to the nearest care provider or where victims can get help within minimal time of the accident.

Dr. Arogundade highlighted two critical processes in trauma care management which he identified as timely intervention and the process of handling victims. The latter has to do with managing physical pains a victim goes through at an accident scene and which part of the body should be touched or not by the rescue personnel.

Dr. Arogundade disclosed that the health department in Lagos created google map where victims can get help to locate hospitals in the state. The google map once logged into, he said, indicated hospital location. He added that it also provides information identifying location of incidents of accidents.

Dr. Arogundade admitted that in galvanising access to care, the TCERA will add value to existing facilities provided by the Lagos State government.

Dr. Arogundade disclosed that Lagos State has 27 general hospitals and tertiary health institutions while the federal government maintains LUTH. He disclosed that the state health ministry received over 3,000 emergency calls, adding that the ministry was receiving an average of five calls daily on how people can get to the hospital.

Dr. Arogundade also revealed that the state government set up calls, and ambulance service for emergency care. He expressed that the call and ambulance service will step up operations with the TCERA APP. According to him, “TCERA APP will provide the technology for easy communication. There are 28 government facilities and over 2,000 registered facilities.

“The APP will make it faster to identify locations; identify the FRSC, whose second office is on the road; identify the Police, LASTMA, NURTW, and others; also identify centres for interventions.”

He reiterated that Lagos State government has 27 general hospitals, observing that, however, the population of Lagos continues to grow. “Definitely, we need cooperation and the private sector to save our people,” Arogundade declared.

He observed that the vulnerable people in road accidents are those on official duties who stand at the roadside.

Dr. Arogundade talked of the golden hour for intervention. “If they do not get support, they die on the spot. Some stay for a few hours; if nothing is done; or if the right thing is not done, they die.

“The first hours of rescue are crucial; and appropriate things have to be done to save the life of a victim,” he declared.

The Director of LASAMBUS, Dr. Korolo, acknowledged that communication is key to medicare services. He stated that it is a novel innovation necessary to fulfil the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), adding that it was one of the measures put in place by Lagos State government for addressing MDGs. One of the measures, he said, was capacity building, adding that the government grown ambulance capacity from five to 25, stating that the state intends to provide one ambulance for each local council. This, he said, will enable the caregivers get closer to the grassroots for proper care. He observed that trauma does not give any notice. “The closer we get to the service to the grassroots, the better it is to deliver proper service, proper care.

“We will look at some of our processes, especially, with documentation, and we will need to adopt the APP,” he declared.

The LASAMBUS Director affirmed that technology is in the front burner of service delivery, noting that LASAMBUS is working on some innovations.

Dr. Korolo stated: “communication is key in interventionist care services, there is need for governmental and non-governmental synergy. “We have gone past where we started, we reach out to the grassroots population. Lagos will adopt the TCERA APP at call centres.” He disclosed that LASAMBUS has partnership with an organisation in Texas, the US, and another in Canada.

The representative of the FRSC Sector Commander in Lagos State, Mrs. Fekoya, said that the FRSC has mandate to prevent crash on the roads. She said that the Corps need to educate and enlighten people on safety measures on the highways. She pointed out that 95% of auto-crash on highways are caused by human errors.

She stated that the FRSC rely on technology to get information on occurrences on highways.

Mrs. Fekoya revealed that FRSC is connected to all Commands in the country, adding that the Corps has 12 Commands in Lagos State.

She said that they have connectivity with hospitals and other necessary intervention agencies when accident occurs. She noted that in most cases, gridlocks hinder rescue operations, saying that the command connects another command to intervene, explaining the traffic constraints from the end.

She added that FRSC also has GPS with which the Corps reaches out a Command for interventions, monitor the movement of the vehicle from the headquarters and ensure the victims are rescued and safe. She said that the Command must get to the rescue scene within 10 minutes of notification.

Mrs. Fekoya stated that communication is key in data analysis, noting that security is also key in interventions. She said the FRSC uses technology to multiply the impact of interventions, educate people to prevent accident.

She highlighted that FRSC has first information report, relying on technology to identify locations. She added that they also have public source information, where people at the scene of accident post on the social media. The Corps download it and act. She added that rescue personnel require patience in evacuation of accident victims.

Mrs. Fekoya advocated that people should comply with accident prevention measures and save resources devoted to medicals, so that such resources can be utilised in other areas of development.

She thanked the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International (COFI) for their dependable support. “It is our goal to work closely with the government, strategic communities and corporate organisations to significantly reduce the emergency response time in our communities while championing volunteerism in pre-Hospital care through the TCIF First Responder network and the usage of the TCERA applications,” she declared.

Politics / "Declaration Of No-fly Zone; An Attack On Zamfara People By The FG."~~~CPA by Josepholome: 5:07pm On Mar 03, 2021
The Centre for Public Accountability CPA, has expressed regrets over the desperate attempt by the Federal government, to politicise the security situation in Zamfara State, noting that the recent declaration of a 'No-Fly Zone' on the state coupled with a ban placed on mining activities, were targeted at further destabilizing the effort of the state government, towards, addressing the spate of insecurity in the state.

CPA in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Olufemi Lawson questioned why Zamfara is the testing ground for the Federal government's declaration of no-fly zone, when in actual fact, there have been previous alarms raised by Nigerians, in States across the country, most especially in the Northeast and North Central zones, about how arms and ammunition are supplied to criminal elements, with the aid of aircrafts.

"We consider the admission by the Presidency, that criminal elements now get their supplies, through the aid of aircrafts, as an indictment of those responsible for managing our airspace and national security, which further confirms our believe, that the incumbent administration has lost the capacity, to further guarantee, the security of lives and properties of Nigerians, which ordinarily should be its primary responsibility."

"We are constrained to believe, that the decision of the presidency, is a direct attack targeted at the Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Bello Matawalle, over his recent revelations, on the roles, played by some highly placed individuals, towards truncating the state government's effort at rescuing the recently abducted over 270 girls of the Government Girls Science Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara state."

"It is also hypocritical of the Federal government, to take such a swift decision, without consultation with Stakeholders in Zamfara state, at a speed it never took, during similar scenarios witnessed in President Buhari's home state of Katsina and of recent, Kagara in Niger State."

Rather than making this kind of unpopular action towards addressing the insecurity in Zamfara, a situation that has been largely traced to the mismanagement and maladministration of the state, under the previous administration, particularly between 2011-2019, when Mr. Abdulaziz Yari was in saddle, as the governor, We wish to remind the Federal government, that it is her primary responsibility to make sure that lives and properties of all citizens are protected, without any iota of political consideration. When this is lost, then there is nothing like governance again.”

We are therefore demanding for an immediate reversal of the Federal government's no-fly zone order, while asking that genuine nationwide inquiry be launched into the claims, that criminal elements, now get their arms and ammunition supplies, through our airspace, a situation, that should worry any serious Government, particularly, those who have been saddled with the responsibility managing our national security.

Is the FG telling us it doesn't know owners of jets in Nigeria again? There is nothing we will not see in Nigeria.

The senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition on Monday opened investigative hearing into the allegedly “Missing” N27billion meant for the payment of the pension of former staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria PHCN.

The probe by the Senate followed a petition by the disengaged staff under the aegis of the National Association of Disengaged Staff of PHCN.

Presenting the petition, the Deputy Chairman of the disengaged PHCN workers, Lawal Abdul Magini told the Senate panel that it relied on some media reports alleging that N27 billion meant to clear pension was approved and paid but was diverted by a private insurance company, BestWorth Insurance Brokers.

The workers through their lawyer, Emmanuel Okere told the Senate panel that the matter is currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC; calling on it to use its power to invite the Bureau For Public Enterprises, BPE, EFCC, BestWorth insurance Brokers and Polaris Bank for questioning.

Responding, the chairman of the committee and senator representing Ondo Central, Senator Ayo Akinyelure however stepped down the petition; advising the petitioners and their lawyer to furnish it with more documentary evidence to drive its investigation to a logical conclusion as it could not rely solely on circumstantial evidence.

Politics / *JUST IN: Corruption Fighting Back At Federal Character Commission:* by Josepholome: 8:17pm On Feb 17, 2021
Since the appointment of Dr Mrs Farida Dankaka as the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission FCC, some entrenched interests in the Commission, repugnant to change appeared determined to perpetuate the regime of incompetence, inept leadership and corruption.

Within six months of her appointment, there has been grand designs to frustrate her and return the culture of corruption President Mohammadu Buhari is fighting, which influenced the appointment of such qualified and incorruptible lady to the commission.

Within this period, frivolous petitions was falsely reported to have been written to the ICPC and lately the National Assembly, accusing the respected entrepreneur and administrator of corruption, high handedness and job racketeering.

This was accompanied by aggressive media campaigns calculated to smear the hard earned reputation of Dr Dankaka.

A cursory look at the petitions signed by two members out of thirty seven of the Commission suggest that the petitioners were shamelessly working on hearsay as the petition read inta alia that “..we gathered..”. Its shameless indeed that people of that status could orchestrate lies to mislead institutions just as to get an individual.

Its ridiculous to allege someone of manipulating employment in favour of eleven persons from her senatorial district when in actual fact she is at the forefront of the fight against job racketeering perpetuated by certain interest in the commission.

Since her appointment, the FCC Chairman has made giant stride in the commission including, strict adherence to the provision of the FCC act for effective delivery on the commission’s mandate, capacity building for management and staff of the commission, institutionalising the principle of probity, accountability and value for money among others.

President Mohammadu Buhari was clear in his vision to have appointed Dr Dankaka, a woman whose pedigree and integrity is obviously not in doubt or questionable.

Dr. (Mrs) Muheeba Farida Dankaka is not new to management or Leadership and her coming into public office is indeed a blessing.

Politics / Federal Character Commission - The Hard Truth: by Josepholome: 8:05am On Feb 16, 2021
Hajiya Muheeba Farida Dankaka has been on the news in the last few weeks over series of unfounded and malicious issues created to assassinate her reputation by faceless but unrepentant interests in the commission working closely with the outgoing secretary.

These persons have in times past and also lately accused the executive chairman, Hajiya Dankaka of amongst other things, awarding a contract of N35M to a media consulting firm.

However, for the records, Hajiya Farida Dankaka since assumption of office as chairman of the Commission hasn’t awarded any contract to anybody or agency as the said contract was awarded by the former chairman of the commission with clear records in the commission to prove this.

I challenge any of those peddling this nefarious rumor including their backers accusing the chairman to come up with documents where she approved any contract in the sum of N35M.

Also, the issue of job racketing has also been in the news. However, it is in good and reliable authority that I wish to state that nothing of such has happened under Hajiya Farida Dankaka's watch as chairman of the commission.

It is common knowledge that waivers cannot be sold to agencies or departments because there is a process to get such waivers required for employment of Nigerians.

To this end, the elements behind this insinuation are challenged again to provide any document to prove their case.

Whereas the issue of an imaginary employment of 11 new staff in the commission by the chairman is in the air, it is not true. Who are they? What are their names? Which department are they working in?

Assuming without conceding that the allegation is correct, the chairman will still have acted in line with relevant sections of the act establishing the commission which bestows on Her statutory powers to employ staffs in the commission.

The validity of the FCC act is open to a debate and persons interested are challenged and welcome to prove that she erred.

Coming at a time when the Senate and office of the secretary of the government of the federation have both investigated the matter and absolved the chairman of any infraction, nefarious elements at the various levels in the commission not excluding the infamous group of federal commissioners responsible for lying to Nigerians through their media campaigns are advised to retract their steps, embrace peace and recommit themselves to the main reasons for which they were appointed.

Mrs Farida Dankaka is only being fought by 8 out of 37 National commissioners of the commission because of her uprightness and determination to make the federal character commission a stabilizer of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

According to them, “madam no dey gree drop”.

It has also been found out that the secretary of the commission is supportive of the 8 infamous federal commissioners due to the refusal of president Buhari to confirm Him as substantive chairman of the commission after intensive lobbying and serving as acting chairman.

The Federal Government is now called on to as a matter of urgency appoint a new secretary of the commission from the south since the current Secretary is from the north and his tenure is ending in a few days time in line with civil service rules.

Muheeba Dankaka has not hidden her desire to preside over an agency that will champion a wide range of reforms in corporate governance in the public and private sector.

This she is poised to do and will continue to work with patriotic individuals and groups to midwife a process that will form the benchmark for measuring excellence in public service.

Politics / Most Misunderstood SSG, Bashir Ahmed by Josepholome: 4:21pm On Feb 15, 2021
Most Misunderstood SSG, Bashir Ahmed

Adamawa politics is often characterised by smear campaign fueled by envy and malice.

Usually some elements, especially those disgruntled due to personal and/or selfish considerations, are known to taking prominent figures on tye pages of newspapers.

Most recently, especially with the Advent of social media, mischief makers are wont stop scandalising people.

The Secretary to Adamawa state Government (SSG), Bashir Ahmed, is a victim of such smear campaign in recent times.

Rabble rousers, especially those of the stuck of Jimeta politics got themselves engaged with barragee of attacks against the SSG.

What is however laughable is that looking at all the issues raised against him, his accusers only succeeded in revealing their ignorance, just as they betrayed their desperation to harm a man who is standing out.

Another issue that is unknown to them is the fact that, the SSG is a man that is well understood by his boss,Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Attempts have been made casting the SSG in bad light, on alleged mismanagement of COVID-19 funds.

In some cases, the same elements have sustained efforts to attack his personal life on ground of poor morality.

Against the backdrop, a one time Governorship contender in the state, Alhaji A. A. Lawan Uba, came to the defense of the SSG.

He categorically took on the attackers, and with a jest, describing them as trying to make a storm in a tea cup.

To A. A. Lawan Uba, Bashir stands tall; and infact, the tallest of all since creation of the state. He posited that Bashir cannot be discredited or pulled down by mischief makers

He argued vehemently, that as the engine room of Adamawa state government, Bashir was enjoying the full confidence of his boss.

He furthered that Bashir can never be deterred or cowed I to bending the rules for the selfish benefit of those out to reap where they didn't sow.

On allegation of mismanaging coronavirus funds, A. A. Lawan Uba counselled them to seek proper education on the operations o the Adamawa State Covid-19 Containment Committee.

Firstly, Uba said the committee was empowered by law to spend money before accounting for it.

Notwithstanding, the SSG who is the chairman, decided to put in place a procurement committee, co-chaired by the CAN chairman, Bishop Dami Mamza and the chairman of Muslim Coucil, Alhaji Gambo Jika.

In conclusion, A. A. Lawan Uba, called on the good people of Adamawa State to disregard all the malicious media content being peddled agaisi the SSG. He described all the lies as rubbish

He however regretted the actions of two or three dissidents in the family championed by Nnanyelugo Chike Agha that had decided to scuttle the collective efforts of the entire family in recovering their expired leased lands in the Onitsha metropolis by approaching the state government and the state judiciary to discredit the family and the family lawyer Barr.Harold Ekwerekwu by saying that he does not have the authority of the family to represent them and also execute all legal cases he had been doing.

Mr.Ben Ezedinobi Ekwerekwu frowned at the behavior of Nnanyelugo Chike Agha and his cohorts who had already tarnished the image of the entire Okposieke family through their actions and antecedents by jeopardizing the collective efforts of the family in getting back their ancestral lands leased to the Government and individuals which had already expired.

"Nnanyelugo Chike Agha had being acting like a paid saboteur, I wonder what he stands to achieve by going against the family," he decried!
"For him to partner with Anambra state government ,the state judiciary and other individuals to fight against the family is what beats my imagination".
Also, he had been laying claims to the Diokpa position in the family forgetting that his father is still alive as he has not told Onitsha people about his demise by performing his full burial rites(second burial) according to the native laws and customs of Onitsha people. He cannot be the Diokpa or the head of the family so long as the Onitsha native laws and customs is at place."

Nnanyelugo Chike Agha is an imposter, the entire Obosieke family did appoint the oldest man in the family, Nnabuenyi Igueze as the family head pending the second burial rites of the late Diokpa of Okposieke family.

We have collected all our family members signature to discredit his actions, to attest also and reaffirm our support and mandate to Bar. Harold Ekwerekwu as Okposieke family lawyer, for him to continue his drive legally to recover all our family ancestral expired leased lands from the hands of Anambra state government, the state judiciary and private individuals also.

The entire Okposieke's family at this emergency meeting says that, Bar.Harold Ekwerekwu is still the legitimate Obosieke family lawyer and it is not disputed anywhere, for he had been in that capacity for years now and the entire Okposieke's family members are at his back in full support of his efforts which had been yielding positive results ever since he was appointed as our legal representative.
We advise Nnanyelugo Chike Agha and his cohorts of saboteurs and dissidents to desist from their ugly acts and channel their energy elsewhere and allow Bar.Harold Ekwerekwu to continue his good works in securing back our family ancestral lands that were tyrantly held against our collective wishes as these lands had already expired under the lease agreement with the occupants. WU: REMAINS THE LEGITIMATE OKPOSIEKE'S FAMILY LAWYER-----Nnabuenyi Igweze(Head OKPOSIEKE'S FAMILY)

As controversy in Okposieke family of Onitsha community rages over who represents the family as the principal counsel in all its dealings with the public over their landed properties scattered all over the Onitsha metropolis.

Mr.Ezedinobi Ben Ekwerekwu the chairman of Okposieke family land committee in an emergency meeting of the entire Okposieke family members including the elders, youths and the principal family members at Onitsha stated that the contentious issue of who is the legitimate family lawyer that represents the family is not a matter to be contested anywhere, as the entire Okposieke family of Onitsha community years ago in unionism appointed Bar. Harold Ekwerekwu as the legitimate legal counsel that will oversee their affairs particularly in legal cases concerning their landed properties scattered within the Onitsha metropolis and beyond with a mandate to recover all their lands that their lease agreement had expired which some are still with private individuals and the State Government.

Politics / A Setback In Ending Police Brutality And Human Rights Abuses In Nigeria by Josepholome: 6:55am On Feb 05, 2021
JUDGEMENT ENFORCEMENT: A SETBACK IN ENDING POLICE BRUTALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN NIGERIA

On the 1st of February, 2021, the Federal High Court sitting in Oshogbo, Osun State awarded the sum of N5,000,000.00 (Five Million Naira Only) as aggravated and general damages against the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector General of Police for the flagrant abuse of the rights of one Mrs Adetola Halima Abdulazeez in a fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by the Abuja based legal practitioner, Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq. The pronouncement of the Court in the judgment came at a time the nation has just been confronted with protest across the country wherein Nigerian youth trooped out en masse to protest against police brutality and other human rights abuses.

The Judgment is therefore a victory to the nation in the fight against police brutality and abuse of powers as resonated in the words of the court. However, what should be a thing of joy for the victim whose case appears to be a beacon of hope to many Nigerians has been targeted for frustration by the moribund process of enforcing this judgement as encapsulated in the extant laws on enforcement of monetary judgement against government agencies.

Notwithstanding the fact that pronouncements of this nature seek to compensate victims of human rights violations, the sad and avoidable reality is that successful litigants are overburdened with the onerous task of enforcing these pronouncements. One would have thought that a system that provides the legal framework for enforcement of fundamental rights would guarantee that fundamental rights are not only protected and compensation awarded; but also ensure that the payment of the compensation so awarded without the need of imposing additional burden of seeking the consent of any administrative body. It is against this background that the provisions of section 84 of the Sheriff and Civil Processes Act 1955, which made the consent of the Attorney General of the Federation or State as the case maybe a condition precedent condemnable to say the least.

The implication of this provision is that no monetary judgement can be enforced against any public institution without the consent of the Federal or State Attorney General. Given the fact that the larger percentage of victims of human right violations and abuse are poor, it is almost impossible for this class of people to obtain the requisite consent. This thus defeats the purpose for which courts award damages against erring parties, especially in relation to its punitive nature which serves as a deterrent to government agencies. Furthermore, it violates the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which under Article 2(3) calls on member states to ensure that victims of human rights abuse have an enforceable and effective remedy determined by a competent court.

In fact, article 19 of the United Nations Declaration on the Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power imposed a duty on states to incorporate into the national law norms proscribing abuses of power and providing remedies to victims of such abuses. In particular, such remedies include restitution and/or compensation, and necessary material, medical, psychological and social assistance and support. Rather abiding by these basic principles of justice, the Nigerian government is busy creating impediments for victims who are merely trying to reap the fruit of their labour.

The growing number of recorded of cases of police brutality, human rights violations and abuse of power in astronomical terms has contributed largely to the growing incidence of citizens’ resort to self-help and other informal methods of airing grievances as displayed during the recent #ENDSARS protest. The inauguration of Panels of Inquiry across the country as an off shoot of the #ENDSARS protest have availed victims of police brutality an avenue to seek relief from their ordeals. While this is laudable, the possibility of enforcing judgement obtained in court or any recommendation made in related cases seeking enforcement by the panel of inquiry, has been reduced to nought by the daunting realities facing the Nigerian Legal System, hence the need for sound engagement and conversation about the enforcement of judgement in Nigeria against government agencies.

Contrary to the layman’s notion, ‘winning a case’ extends beyond obtaining positive judgement in court. It includes the enforcement of such judgements, which is the last stage of every judicial process. Thus, every judgement creditor, that is a party in whose favour judgement was entered, is entitled to the accruing benefits of the judgement obtained and same must be enforced in compliance with the provisions of the law. This is a corollary to the duty of the court, as expressed in a plethora of authorities, to enforce its orders, decisions and judgements as well as ensuring the speedy resolution of disputes. In effect, the court officials saddled with the responsibility of discharging this obligation include Chief Registrars, who invariably are the Deputy Sheriffs, the Bailiffs and other relevant court personnel. As a matter of law, every judgement is effective from the date of delivery or from such date as the judgment itself appoints and same must be obeyed without question. A default on the part of the judgement debtor – the party against whom judgement was entered – in complying with the judgement of the court entitles the judgment creditor to commence Judgement Enforcement proceedings.

The Sheriff and Civil Processes Act and Judgement Enforcement Rules make provisions for the modes of enforcing judgement to wit: writ of fi fa, writ of sequestration, writ of possession, garnishee proceedings, etc. The Constitution also empowers the Court to enforce and ensure compliance with its order or judgement as provided in section 6(6) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). While these provisions of the law give the impression that the Court are ready to enforce its judgment with despatch, the reverse is the case in reality as section 84 of the Sheriff and Civil Processes has wrestled from the weak arm of the victims of fundamental right abuses and a host of other person who has obtained monetary judgment against the government or any of its agencies the right to enforce the said judgment through the callous introduction of the requirement of the consent of the Attorney General of the Federation or State as the case may be.

Nevertheless, as pleasant as the above provisions may appear, the process of enforcement of judgment in Nigeria is bedevilled with several impediments as evidenced in the rigorous processes and procedures; the effect of which has the capacity of jeopardizing the hope of justice for many and equally occasioning the abuse of human rights across the country. There is a hurdle of administrative technicalities ranging from the mandatory need to seek the leave of court to enforce judgment against the government or any of its agencies. Thus, victims on many occasions find themselves at the mercy of the judge who is not under any legal compulsion to grant such leave. Even when the leave is granted, issues of administrative lethargy results in victims suffering more at the hands of their oppressor. For instance, in an action for fundamental right enforcement against unlawful detention, the court may grant an order releasing the victim from custody but the authorities involved may be unyielding thereby prolonging the victim’s stay in custody against his fundamental right.

To add more to the victim’s herculean tasks, the additional obligation of bearing the cost of enforcement without which the process of enforcement will be abandoned. He is responsible for mobilizing the Sheriff of the court in the discharge of his official duty even though there is an allocation for same and also pays for the expense of the conveyance of the judgement debtor to prison in the case of the latter’s default in obeying the court’s order. With particular reference to judgment obtained against the government or any of its officials, the judgement creditor may need to further mobilize his lawyer to commence an action for garnishee proceeding even where there is no certainty that the Attorney General will consent to the payment of the judgement sum

The foregoing impediments to enforcement of judgments in Nigeria has led to lack of confidence in the court and the judiciary in the whole. It is alarming and the impact is felt more strongly by the poor who usually fall victim to human right violations and abuse. To further compound their misery, the race to access justice in Nigeria is more like a journey to Golgotha as many victims who have had to tread that path after enduring attendant delays often return more dejected and depressed than they were before seeking justice.

As a result, many victims of human rights violations consider the search for justice in Nigeria as an effort in futility thereby giving impetus to unscrupulous police officers to continue with the flagrant abuse of human rights. This I think is also responsible for the continued human rights violations by officers of the Nigerian Police Force as the agency is yet to feel the weight of the law in terms of constantly paying court ordered damages.

It is therefore pertinent that to address the issue of human rights abuses by security agencies and police brutality in particular, there is an urgent need to review some of our laws to ensure seamless judgement enforcement processes for litigants even against government agencies.

A total review of the judicial system particularly the aspect of judgement enforcement against government agencies will help to hold government and its agencies accountable for their actions and omissions and bring the occurrences of human rights abuses to the barest minimum. It is inconceivable that there exists a justice system where after successfully prosecuting a matter before a court of law, litigants find that enforcing such judgment is a near impossible and this is sadly the case in Nigeria.

This, therefore, underscores the need for collective and concerted action towards rejigging our laws to allow for ease in Judgement enforcement against Law enforcement agencies and institutions of government.

In saner climes, a Special Fund is normally created for the compensation of the victims of human right violations and abuses from which victims are entitled to be paid immediately the court makes a finding that their fundamental rights have been violated.

Politics / Concerned Nigerians Group Hails President Buhari At 78 by Josepholome: 8:46pm On Dec 17, 2020
, URGES HIM TO SIGN ELECTORAL BILL, HALT RIGGING OF ELECTIONS BY APC

We wish to use this medium to congratulate President Buhari on his 78th birthday. We pray God keeps him and give him the ability to halt the insecurity and maladministration presently ravaging the country.

In a country where the average life expectancy is 53 years, God has been exceedingly merciful to President. Nigerians have equally demonstrated their trust in him by voting him as an elected president, twice. President Buhari must repay this trust by putting the people first, going forward. Nigerians are suffering and many, who ordinarily would have celebrated their 78th birthday, someday, are lying dead under the ground. This is a time for sober reflection.

More importantly, President Buhari must take urgent steps to sign the electoral bill into law, when same is transmitted to him by the National Assembly. The president must also take steps to halt rigging of elections by hos party, the APC. This is the only legacy Nigeria demands from him at this time. The president must shun political, tribal or religious sentiments, and bequeath to Nigerians, an electoral Act that will change the face of elections and governance in this country. This, is all we ask from him.

Happy birthday Mr. President.

The Returning Officer, Prof Ekechukwe, Okeke, Dean of Humanities, Federal University of Technology, Otuoke, returned Dickson as the Senator elect having polled 115257 to defeat his closest opponent, Hon Peremobowei Ebebi of the APC who polled 17541.

Chief Dickson who spoke in his country home of Toru Orua shortly after his return dedicated the victory to God, the voters, Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation.

He said that the mandate was beyond the Sagbama/Ekeremor Senatorial district but an opportunity to galvanize unity and solidarity in Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation.

Politics / PDP Takes Early Lead In Bayelsa West Bye-Election by Josepholome: 5:19pm On Dec 05, 2020
The ruling People’s Democratic Party, the PDP in Bayelsa state is in early lead in the Bayelsa West senatorial bye-election currently ongoing.

Bayelsa West and Central seats became vacant following the emergence of Senator Douye Diri and Senator Lawrence Ewhrujakpo as governor and deputy governor of Bayelsa respectively.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP is fielding the immediate past former governor of Bayelsa state, Chief Henry Seriake Dickson while the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC in Bayelsa is fielding Peremobowei Ebebi, former speaker of Bayelsa state House of Assembly for the vacant Bayelsa West Senatorial district.

The collated results so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission shows, the people’s Democratic Party, PDP is in early lead.
The election according to our correspondent in Yenagoa witnessed high voters turn out as electorates trooped out enmass to exercise their franchise.

You would recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State had disqualified Peremobowei Ebebi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from contesting in the Bayelsa West Senatorial bye-election.

The presiding judge, Justice Jane Inyang, in a judgment on a case of forgery filed by Richman Samuel, upheld the plaintiff’s prayers and declared the APC candidate ineligible to contest.

The plaintiff contended that the academic credentials and voter’s card, which the defendant submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the bye-election, were forged documents.
