A Milestone for Gender Inclusion in Nigeria’s Energy Sector — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has officially launched the Women in NNPC (WIN) initiative, marking a significant step toward fostering greater inclusion, diversity, and leadership opportunities for women in the organization and the wider energy industry. The launch event took place yesterday at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, establishing WIN as a dedicated institutional platform to inspire, support, and empower women across all levels of the company. The initiative focuses on attracting, retaining, and developing top female talent while creating a supportive environment where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s energy future. In his keynote address during the launch, NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described WIN as a strategic investment in the company’s human capital. “WIN does not replace merit. It strengthens readiness. It does not create advantage. It removes unintended barriers. And most importantly, it does not divide us. It connects us,” Ojulari emphasized. He added that “NNPC wins when our women win. And when women win, organisations and nations move forward.” The event included a panel discussion titled “Winning in the Sector: Women Shaping Nigeria’s Energy Future on Their Own Terms,” where senior female leaders shared insights on resilience, mentorship, and breaking barriers in the traditionally male-dominated energy sector. A major highlight was the official unveiling of the WIN logo, coordinated by Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe. The new branding symbolizes NNPC Ltd’s alignment with global best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through WIN, NNPC Ltd reaffirms its commitment to building a more innovative, equitable, and sustainable energy sector. By prioritizing women’s advancement, the company aims to harness diverse perspectives to drive progress and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global energy landscape. The initiative comes amid broader efforts by NNPC Ltd to promote gender equality and empower women, aligning with international standards and contributing to national development goals. At the International Energy Week 2026, held in London from February 10–12, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Financial Officer, Adedapo Segun, joined a distinguished panel to discuss Africa’s energy future. In his submission, Segun emphasized the urgent need for African countries to prioritize energy access for citizens, while leveraging green financing initiatives to achieve this goal. He noted that energy policies must reflect Africa’s realities, especially given the continent’s limited contribution to global emissions. Highlighting regional collaboration, he pointed to the African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project as a strategic initiative to unite African nations in pursuit of energy access and security. He explained that developing infrastructure to monetize Nigeria’s over 200 trillion scf would not only enhance energy supply but also provide a sustainable solution to Nigeria’s revenue challenges. By Golok Nanmwa,Jos Special Envoy on Peace and Security to the Government of Plateau state Professor Chris Kwaja has defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State. Professor Kwaja registered in his Gurum ward, Bassa local government area of the state, alongside his supporters, with prominent APC members in attendance. Speaking with newsmen after the reception, Professor Kwaja said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts to promote peace and unity across the divided nation had a significant impact on his decision to join the party. According to him, Nigeria's current position necessitates collaboration with the president to address the country's insecurity, and while the government is doing its best, its efforts must be complemented. "President Tinubu has demonstrated tenacity and made efforts to realign the nation's economy, and the benefits are becoming apparent. As part of my efforts to support Mr. President's peace-building initiatives and his administration's strategic attempts to realign the nation, I defected to the APC. "In addition, Nigeria's political environment is changing as a result of national and state-level leadership attempts to promote unity and development. President Tinubu's Governor Caleb Mutfwang's efforts in this regard are feasible, and especially his inclusive administration in Plateau State equally influenced my decision to join the ruling party. “Nigeria is the focus, and some of us believe we can contribute in our own modest way to achieving the goal of a united Nigeria,” he said. Prof. Kwaja stated that his primary purpose in APC would be to integrate the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and the Governor’s “Time Is Now” mantra with the overall goal of promoting peace, unity, progress, and equity. He refuted the idea that Nigeria is moving in the direction of a one-party state, stating that the country is still multi-party and that the strength of one party does not imply a one-party state. "The goal here is not to establish a one-party system. There have been instances in the past where the PDP controlled a large number of governors. Voting and choosing their own path are still rights for Nigerians. What matters is that the public holds the APC accountable," he said. Welcoming him into the party, the APC Chairman of Gurum Ward, Alhaji Rilwanu Usman, described Kwaja’s entry as a historic moment, citing his capacity and influence as assets that would strengthen the party at the grassroots. Also speaking at the event, Barr. Beatrice Dakas, National Coordinator of Renewed Hope Advocates for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027, said Prof. Kwaja’s decision to join the APC would enhance unity and progress in Bassa LGA, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large. She expressed confidence that his experience in peacebuilding would further strengthen the party’s development agenda and provide a platform for greater national engagement. https://leaders.ng/2026/02/13/peace-envoy-prof-kwaja-defects-to-apc-in-plateau/

Kwada also took time to explain to the Middle-Belt leaders, that Governor Mutfwang's recent realignment with the APC was in the interest of the North Central and Middle-Belt regions and the manifestation is the recently approved Akwanga/ Jos road which was announced by the vice president Sen. Kashim Shettima recently during his visit to Jos. He urged leaders to mobilize their people for the ongoing voter registration exercise, stating that the Plateau Middle-Belt ethnic Nationalities alone can generate over 1 million votes if properly mobilized. The leaders praised Governor Mutfwang's inclusivity and pledged their support. IN DEFENCE OF PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP: WHY JAY KAY CHRISTOPHER’S RECORD IN JOS NORTH DESERVES FAIRNESS, NOT FICTION By Comrade Prince Miaphen In politics, criticism is normal. In fact, it is healthy. But there is a clear line between constructive scrutiny and deliberate distortion. That line has been crossed repeatedly in recent commentaries targeted at the Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government, Barr. Jay Kay Christopher. As someone who knows him personally, works closely within the same political family, and more importantly, lives in Jos North, I find it necessary to respond not with insults or counter-attacks, but with facts, context, and balance. Governance should be judged by evidence on the ground, not by recycled talking points or armchair assumptions. Leadership Is Not About Comfort, It Is About Choices From the very first day he assumed office, Barr. J.K. Christopher made it clear that Jos North would not continue with the old culture where local government resources were treated as personal allowances to be shared among a few political actors. That declaration alone unsettled many who were used to a different order. When you disrupt entrenched interests, resistance is inevitable. What critics describe as “centralization” is, in many instances, simply fiscal discipline. What is painted as “authoritarianism” is often the insistence that public funds must be tied to verifiable projects, not scattered without accountability. Local government is not a social club. It is a tier of government with constitutional responsibility to deliver services. The Councilors’ Narrative and the Truth Much has been made of the so-called “symbolic” constituency allowances given to councilors. What is conveniently ignored is the economic reality facing all tiers of government, including dwindling allocations, rising costs, and inherited liabilities. Leadership requires prioritization. Rather than throwing scarce funds into fragmented spending with no measurable impact, this administration chose to channel resources into projects that benefit entire communities - health centres, bridges, markets, security infrastructure, and power supply. That choice may not flatter individual egos, but it serves the collective interest of the people. Councilors remain critical partners in governance, and engagement continues. But partnership does not mean abdication of oversight or surrender of prudence. From Paper Criticism to Physical Projects Those who claim that achievements are “invisible” can only say so if they have chosen not to look. Across Jos North, projects are not only visible; they are active and verifiable. Primary Health Care centres in Kabong, Angwan Rimi, Babale, and Tudun Wada are being renovated and upgraded, complete with water and sanitation facilities. These are not photo-ops. These are facilities that serve thousands of ordinary people - women, children, the elderly, who rely on public healthcare every day. The construction of the Farin Gada–Russau vehicular bridge addresses a long-standing traffic and safety challenge, especially around the busy Farin Gada market corridor. Students, traders, and commuters will benefit daily from this single intervention. At Bauchi Road, the once-chaotic motor park is being transformed into a modern, centralized transport hub with proper layout, security posts, toilets, and shops. Cities do not grow by accident. Order, planning, and courage to confront illegal structures are part of development. Power, Light, and Security: The Quiet Impact In Ali Kazaure community, the installation of a 500KVA transformer brought an end to years of darkness and economic frustration. That project did not trend on social media, but it changed lives. Businesses reopened. Children studied at night. That is what governance is about. In Tudun Wada, two brand new transformers were delivered. In Dong community, a police outpost was constructed and commissioned, strengthening grassroots security in an area previously vulnerable to crime and kidnapping. Security is not rhetoric; it is infrastructure, coordination, and presence. These are not isolated acts. They are part of a deliberate effort to spread projects across wards, not concentrate them around political allies or loud supporters. The “100 Days” Strawman Argument Another recurring line is the mockery of the administration’s first 100 days appraisal. Let us be clear: referencing early milestones does not mean nothing has happened since. It simply provides a baseline to measure continuity and growth. That 100-day period laid foundations that subsequent projects are building upon. ICT infrastructure, markets, healthcare upgrades, and security interventions. Governance is cumulative. You do not discard foundations simply because time has passed. You build on them. The documented appraisal of those early achievements remains part of the public record. On Personality Attacks and Human Relations Perhaps the weakest part of the criticism is the attempt to reduce governance to gossip about hospitality, generosity, or private conduct. Leadership is not a popularity contest based on who spends the most or entertains the loudest. It is about stewardship. Barr. J.K. Christopher is not in office to please courtiers. He is there to make decisions, sometimes hard ones, in the interest of Jos North. Those who equate generosity with effectiveness should ask themselves whether they prefer a leader who shares money or one who builds clinics, bridges, markets, and police stations. Institutions Over Individuals Ironically, many of the critics claim to be defending democracy while attacking the very idea of institutional discipline. Democracy does not mean everyone does as they please. It means elected leaders act within the law, manage resources responsibly, and are accountable for outcomes. Jos North today is not being run as a “personal fiefdom.” It is being run with a clear chain of responsibility. Contractors are monitored. Projects are inspected. Timelines are enforced. That is why the Chairman personally goes on inspection tours not to pose for cameras, but to ensure value for money. Progress Is Not Always Noisy Development at the local government level is often quiet, incremental, and unglamorous. It is a renovated clinic that prevents a maternal death. A bridge that saves commuters thirty minutes daily. A transformer that keeps a market alive. A police outpost that deters crime before it happens. These are the metrics that matter, not the volume of press statements or the bitterness of critics. A Call for Fair Scrutiny, Not Cynicism No administration is perfect, and Jos North still has challenges. But honesty demands that criticism be grounded in facts, not frustration. Those calling for external audits should also acknowledge ongoing projects and completed ones. Accountability is a two-way street. As residents, we should ask tough questions, yes, but we should also recognize progress where it exists. Tearing down every effort does not strengthen democracy; it weakens public trust. Conclusion: Let the Record Speak Barr. Jay Kay Christopher may not satisfy everyone, but leadership is not about universal applause. It is about direction, discipline, and delivery. On these counts, his administration has shown seriousness of purpose. History will not judge this tenure by press releases written in anger, but by concrete structures that remain long after the noise has faded. Clinics will still treat patients. Bridges will still carry traffic. Markets will still support livelihoods. Police outposts will still provide security. That is the real verdict. COMRADE PRINCE MIAPHEN is a resident and stakeholder in Jos North Local Government Area https://leaders.ng/2026/02/07/in-defence-of-purposeful-leadership-why-jay-kay-christophers-record-in-jos-north-deserves-fairness-not-fiction/

He highlighted potential dividends from the move, including the Vice President's recent pronouncement on the proposed dualisation of the Akwanga–Jos Road, and optimism surrounding the Korot–Bakin Kogi–Gindiri Road following inspections by the Commissioner for Works. Hon. Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot reaffirmed commitments to unity and development, while Hon. Markus Yakubu Gyang and Hon. Absolom pledged to contribute meaningfully to the party and advance grassroots initiatives. The ceremony reached its peak with the symbolic presentation of APC membership cards and brooms to the new members, who collectively pledged allegiance to the party and chanted its slogans amid widespread celebrations. NNPC Ltd Engaging Partners with Proven Capacity to Revamp its Refineries -Ojulari The Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has stated that the Company is currently in talks with partners with proven track record of refining and petrochemical operations, in order to build sustainable, self-financing, and profitable solutions for its refineries. Ojulari disclosed this while fielding questions during a fireside chat themed “Securing Nigeria’s Energy Future at NIES 2026”, at the ongoing Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 in Abuja, on Wednesday. The GCEO observed that historically, the focus on refineries has largely been on financing and EPC delivery, noting that the approach has now moved towards getting the operating model right for sustainability. “Getting refineries up and running requires three critical elements: financing, a competent EPC contractor, and world-class operational capacity. That is exactly our focus at the moment,” he noted. The GCEO added that NNPC Ltd is now better positioned for commerciality and sustained profitability, driven by ongoing transformation agenda aimed at securing Nigeria’s energy future. On the recent gains made in the reduction of crude oil theft and improved pipeline availability, the NNPC Ltd GCEO attributed the success to strengthened collaboration with upstream operators, noting that renewed engagement and trust have significantly proven to be a major boost for investor confidence, commercial outcomes, and productivity. “When the current leadership of NNPC Ltd was appointed, we initiated a fundamentally different engagement model with our partners which focused on improving systems and processes for win-win outcomes in production acceleration and contracting,” Ojulari said. “There was also the decisive intervention by the Federal Government to mitigate security challenges in the Niger Delta through a structured surveillance framework, including the deployment of AI-enabled solutions and security personnel. This has helped stabilise operations, ensure production consistency, and deepen collaboration with host communities through targeted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives that address fundamental social issues,” the GCEO noted. On the recently-launched NNPC Ltd Gas Master Plan 2026, Ojulari explained that the Company is firmly focused on delivering in-country value through gas utilisation initiatives, describing the plan as a customer-driven strategy designed to stimulate market growth and shared prosperity. According to him, the Plan is closely aligned with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which positions gas as a pillar of economic growth, industrialisation, and energy transition. On leadership and governance, Ojulari commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the unprecedented inclusion of industry experts on the NNPC Ltd Board and Senior Management Team, describing it as a strategic move that strengthens commercial discipline and global competitiveness. He added that the blend of internal expertise, international experience, and a highly skilled workforce positions NNPC Ltd as a commercially viable and performance-driven national energy company that will be the pride of all its stakeholders. NNPC Ltd Unveils Gas Master Plan 2.0 ...Milestone Represents Nigeria’s Dev’t Aspirations, Says Ekpo As part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s gas sector as the engine room of national industrialisation, energy security, and sustainable economic growth, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has officially unveiled its Gas Master Plan (GMP) 2026, tagged NGMP 2026. The unveiling, held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Friday, 30th Jan, 2026 marks a strategic inflection point in Nigeria’s energy transition journey, underscoring government’s resolve to translate the nation’s vast gas endowment into tangible economic value, infrastructure expansion, and global competitiveness, in alignment with its long-term development aspirations. Speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the Gas Master Plan as a deliberate pivot from policy articulation to disciplined execution, anchored on commercial viability and integrated sector-wide coordination. “Today’s launch is not merely the unveiling of a document; it represents a deliberate shift towards a more integrated, commercially driven, and execution-focused gas sector, aligned with Nigeria’s development aspirations. Nigeria is fundamentally a gas Nation. With one of the largest proven gas reserves in Africa, our challenge has never been potential, but translation: translating resources into reliable supply, infrastructure into value, and policy into measurable outcomes for our economy and our people. The Gas Master Plan speaks directly to this challenge.” Hon. Ekpo further noted that the Plan’s strong focus on supply reliability, infrastructure expansion, domestic and export market flexibility, and strategic partnerships aligns seamlessly with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, positioning natural gas as the backbone of Nigeria’s energy security, industrialisation, and just energy transition. In his address, the Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described the NNPC Gas Master Plan 2026 as a bold, effective execution-anchored roadmap designed to unlock Nigeria’s immense gas potential and elevate the country into a globally competitive gas hub. Ojulari noted that with about 210 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proven gas reserves and an upside potential of up to 600 Tcf, Nigeria possesses one of the most consequential hydrocarbon basins in the world; one reinforced by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the Federal Government’s gas-centric energy transition agenda. “The Plan is structured not just to deliver - but to exceed- the Presidential mandate of increasing national gas production to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030, while catalysing over 60 billion dollars in new investments across the oil and gas value chain by 2030.” He explained that the Plan prioritises cost optimisation, operational excellence, and systematic advancement of resources from 3P to bankable 2P reserves, while strengthening gas supply to power generation, CNG, LPG, Mini-LNG, and critical industrial off-takers. Reaffirming his personal commitment as Chief Sponsor of the initiative, the NNPC Ltd GCEO stressed that the Company has adopted a more collaborative, investor-centric approach in shaping the NGMP 2026, with strong alignment to industry stakeholders, partners, and investors. In a goodwill message at the occasion, the Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Producers’ Group (IPPG) and CEO of Aradel Holdings, Mr. Adegbite Falade, said: “This is giving a shot in the arm to the economy which will bridge the gap between intent and reality. Gas thrives on value chain, from upstream to offtakers. As IPPG members, we reiterate our commitment and support to this initiative.” Also lending his voice to the initiative, the Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) and MD of TotalEnergies Upstream Companies in Nigeria, Matthieu Bouyer, thanked the NNPC Ltd for the ambition behind the NNPC GMP, stressing that his organisation supports the core operating principles of the Plan. The Gas Master Plan 2026 is expected to serve as the definitive framework for coordinated gas sector development, execution discipline, and value creation over the next decade. The Gas Master Plan 2026 is an offshoot of the Nigerian Gas Master Plan (NGMP) 2008, which is a strategic framework aimed at maximizing the economic benefits from the country's abundant gas resources. Another significant dimension to the NGMP 2026 is the utmost attention to full alignment with the Nigerian Decade of Gas Programme. Andy Odeh Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd. The Origins and Development of the Tinubu and Mutfwang Green Cap Movement in Plateau State Initiated by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga By Golok Nanmwa,Jos The Tinubu and Mutfwang Green Cap Movement represents a significant political realignment effort in Plateau State, and the Nation at large aimed at fostering collaboration between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who was initially of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Spearheaded by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, the movement began as a strategic adoption of a symbolic "green cap" to promote reform, accountability, and cross-party unity. Launched in mid-2025 by Alhaji Zazzaga it ultimately contributed to Mutfwang's defection to the APC in December 2025, marking a pivotal shift in regional politics. Earlier before the launch , Alhaji Zazzaga had issued several press releases urging Gov Mutfwang to join the APC. Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, a prominent APC figure and Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, played a central role in initiating and driving the Green Cap Movement in Plateau State. This movement sought to bridge partisan divides by endorsing President Tinubu's leadership while supporting Governor Mutfwang's governance, despite his PDP affiliation at the time. Our correspondent reports that the green cap emerged as a non-partisan symbol representing a "mindset" for progress and reform, with the slogan "The Time is Now." Zazzaga's who spoke to newsmen said the efforts were rooted in his vision for enhanced federal-state collaboration to deliver development benefits to Plateau and the North-Central region. Plateau State has historically been a battleground for Nigeria's major political parties, with the APC and PDP vying for control. In the 2023 elections, Governor Caleb Mutfwang secured victory under the PDP banner, while President Bola Tinubu won the presidency for the APC. Despite partisan differences, Mutfwang's administration was noted for progressive policies, earning cross-party admiration. Zazzaga, as head of the North-Central APC Forum ,a nationally recognized body representing regional stakeholders identified an opportunity to realign Plateau's politics with the federal government. He viewed Mutfwang's performance as aligned with APC's progressive ideals and believed integrating him into the party would strengthen ties with Tinubu, facilitating better resource allocation and development for the state. The Green Cap Movement was initially associated with Governor Mutfwang's reform-oriented agenda in Plateau State, symbolizing growth and renewal (metaphorically tied to the "raining season" in Plateau, implying a time for change). Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga elevated it to a broader political platform by formally adopting it through the North-Central APC Forum. This adoption occurred during an expanded stakeholders' meeting in Jos on May 23, 2025 where the forum declared the green cap as its official logo for the 2027 elections in Plateau. Zazzaga positioned the movement as non-partisan, stating: "The Green Cap is not a symbol of any particular political party. It represents a mindset and the people, not a platform ,he then said . He also added that " The initiative aimed to endorse Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing his economic reforms and progress since assuming office on May 29, 2023, while simultaneously backing Mutfwang for re-election, urging him to defect to the APC for better synergy with the president. This dual endorsement marked the start of the "Tinubu and Mutfwang" aspect, framing the movement as a call for unity under Tinubu's leadership. The forum's adoption then faced internal resistance from some APC executive, who viewed it as potentially linked to the PDP. Zazzaga dismissed these claims as "baseless and misleading. Zazzaga's persistence earned him titles like "Captain of the Green Cap Movement" and "Table Shaker" among supporters, reflecting his role in disrupting traditional party lines. Amid resistance from local APC leaders, Zazzaga continued lobbying Mutfwang to join the APC, arguing it would align him with Tinubu, who "has the interest of Plateau in his heart." And the Governor Mutfwang formally defected to the APC on December 18, 2025, during the party's National Caucus meeting in Abuja, heeding the forum's call. Zazzaga hailed this as "historic and strategic," crediting it to the movement's advocacy. A grand reception for Mutfwang into the APC was held on January 27, 2026, at Jos Polo Field, organized by committees led by figures like Dr. Bernard Doro and Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase. Zazzaga commended the organizers, noting the event's success in solidifying the realignment. The movement, started by Zazzaga's strategic adoption and promotion, transformed Plateau's political landscape. It facilitated Mutfwang's defection, enabling closer collaboration with Tinubu's administration for regional development. President Tinubu himself hailed the realignment, calling for collective support to deepen democracy. Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga initiated the Tinubu and Mutfwang Green Cap Movement by leveraging his position in the North-Central APC Forum to adopt and champion a symbolic platform for political unity in Plateau State. Beginning with the May 2025 stakeholders' meeting, his efforts culminated in Mutfwang's APC defection and a strengthened alliance with President Tinubu. Meanwhile Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga on Thursday has expressed confidence that the North Central states would deliver over 6 Million votes to President Tinubu in the forthcoming election. He emphasized that the event underscored the APC's growing strength and the potential for accelerated development, peace, and inclusive governance in the region. Our correspondent reports that the reception followed Governor Mutfwang's formal resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in late December 2025 and his initial alignment with the APC earlier in January. The governor received the APC flag and broom symbol, pledging full support for President Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid and assuring massive votes from Plateau and the North-Central. Alhaji Zazzaga urged all stakeholders to build on this momentum, focusing on reconciliation, service delivery, and consolidating the APC's gains ahead of future elections. The North-Central APC Forum remains committed to advancing progressive ideals and supporting initiatives that foster unity and development across the zone , Zazzaga further added. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EAFSqUxiM/?mibextid=wwXIfr

The meeting, which brought together major stakeholders, political party leaders, elder statesmen and political office holders from across the Northern Zone of Plateau State, was held on Saturday. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Doro explained that one of the key reasons for the engagement was to interface with his constituency in the Plateau North Senatorial District, particularly in view of the ongoing electronic registration exercise of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “I am here to assess the situation, encourage participation and ensure that my constituency and Plateau State at large are adequately captured in the registration process. I am also here to interface with the people and encourage unity,” he said. 2027: APC Forum rejects moves to drop Shettima, says it will be political miscalculation The North-Central All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum has rejected fresh moves to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu's running mate in the 2027 election, warning that such a decision would amount to 'political miscalculation'. Indications recently emerged that some elements within the ruling party are pushing for Shettima's replacement as Tinubu's running mate after the Vice President's picture was omitted in a banner bearing images of APC leaders in the North-East zone. The banner, which surfaced during the North-East Zonal Public Hearing for the amendment of APC constitution in Maiduguri, only had the pictures of President Bola Tinubu, five APC governors in the zone and the party's national legal adviser. The development has led to renewed debate over the viability of the APC Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027, and Shettima's fate. Some APC stakeholders are demanding Shettima's replacement with a Christian from the North in the coming election. Also, some groups from the North-Central are specifically asking that a Christian from the region should be picked as Tinubu's running mate in 2027. However, in a statement on Thursday, the North-Central APC Forum warned that replacing Shettima would spell danger and disaster for the party and jeopardize President Bola Tinubu's reelection. The Forum added that the North-Central is not interested in the position of Vice President as it is eying the presidency in 2031, after Tinubu's tenure. Further warning against bringing religious sentiment into political calculations, the APC Forum said the North currently lacks a Christian candidate with enough grassroots support, national appeal, and political structure to complement Tinubu’s electoral strength as running mate. In a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the APC Forum argued that dropping the Muslim-Muslim ticket will be to the advantage of the opposition in 2027. "There is serious danger in changing a winning ticket, we totally and unequivocally reject calls and plans to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu's running mate in the next election. "We sincerely advise that President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the party should not listen to such calls because such a decision will turn out to be a grievous political miscalculation," the statement said. The APC Forum added that those behind the calls do not mean well for the party and Tinubu. "They don't want to see President Bola Tinubu reelected, that is the only reason anybody who has political knowledge could make such a request." Looking at the voting pattern in the North, the APC Forum stated that Tinubu would not win new votes by replacing Shettima. Rather, it warned that dropping Shettima on religious grounds would lead to the President losing support and votes in the North. The Forum noted that should the opposition coalition backed African Democratic Congress, ADC, pick Peter Obi as its presidential candidate, dropping Shettima would not make any strategic difference as most minorities in the North will still vote for Obi, regardless of who replaces Shettima as Tinubu's running mate. The APC Forum advised Tinubu to maintain the status quo and continue with Shettima as his running mate, in order to win the 2027 election. Insisting that those who are asking Tinubu to drop the Muslim-Muslim ticket did not vote for him in 2023 and would still also not give him their votes in 2027 - even if he bows to their wish by dropping Shettima, the Forum added, "Those that are calling on President Bola Tinubu to change Vice President Kashim Shettima, basing their position on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, if you check, you will notice that in 2023, most of their communities voted for Peter Obi of the Labour Party. "Now if Peter Obi is to come out again in 2027 for ADC, what is the guarantee that they will vote for Tinubu even if he is to drop Shettima and replace him with a Christian? Does it mean that these people will now leave Peter Obi and vote for Tinubu? That is not going to happen. What is likely to happen in such situation is that Tinubu will lose support among core northerners, thereby reducing his votes and giving the advantage to Peter Obi. Basic political calculation shows that dropping Shettima makes no sense and is actually very dangerous. "We don't see any reason President Tinubu should listen to those that are asking him to change Shettima. These people did not contribute to his victory in 2023, they were not with him. Tinubu should ignore them and go ahead with Vice President Shettima because those that will vote for him will vote for him. But he will be driving many of his voters away if he changes Shettima." There are suggestions that the international community, particularly the United States and the Western powers, might not be comfortable with the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket and will want it changed in 2027, especially against the backdrop of the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria. The APC Forum, however, insisted that Nigeria is a sovereign nation, and should not bow to any foreign influence. "The Muslim-Muslim ticket gave us victory in 2023, Nigeria is an independent nation and nobody is going to dictate to us," the statement said, warning that any outside interference could derail democratic rule in Nigeria and throw the country into avoidable conflict. https://www.facebook.com/share/1DufWP93uU/?mibextid=wwXIfr

APC Faithful Reaffirms Party Supremacy in Langtang South, Disowns Unrecognized Groups, Endorses Lalong and Bulus for 2027 The APC Faithful, the umbrella body of all registered All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups in Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday , reaffirmed it's party supremacy, unity, and internal discipline, while disowning unrecognized groups parading themselves as APC structures in the area. The declaration was made at a press conference held at the APC Secretariat in Mabudi, where the leader of the APC Faithful, Nimzing Dadi, addressed journalists and party members on recent political developments within the local government. Speaking on behalf of the group, Dadi clarified that the APC Faithful remains the only recognized umbrella body of APC support groups in Langtang South, noting that there are 56 duly registered APC groups operating under its platform. He warned against the activities of groups such as the so-called Langtang South APC Vanguard, describing them as unknown, unregistered, and illegitimate within the APC structure. According to him, such groups have not followed the constitutional process of registration at ward levels and therefore lack the authority to speak or act on behalf of the party. “The APC Faithful will not tolerate impersonation, indiscipline, or the promotion of tribal sentiments under the guise of party politics,” Dadi said, adding that any group promoting division or tribalism stands in clear violation of the party’s core values. The gathering, which witnessed a large turnout of party leaders and supporters, also featured a strong endorsement of Distinguished Senator Simon Bako Lalong and Hon. Prince Vincent Venman Bulus for continuity into the 2027 general elections. While endorsing Senator Lalong, the APC Faithful highlighted his achievements during his tenure as Governor of Plateau State, particularly the completion of the Mabudi General Hospital, which had been abandoned for political reasons, and its upgrade with ultra-modern medical equipment valued at billions of naira. The group also commended Lalong for what it described as the liberation of the Tarok people through the creation of additional districts across Tarokland, especially in Langtang South, where districts increased from one to eight, alongside the historic establishment of the Byan Chiefdom. Hon. Prince Vincent Venman Bulus, the current Representative of Langtang North and South Federal Constituency, was equally endorsed for his grassroots focused representation and visible impact across the constituency. In a related development, the APC Faithful formally welcomed Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, into the All Progressives Congress, describing his decision to join the party as a significant boost to APC unity and strength in the state. The group emphasized that the welcome was in the spirit of party growth and reconciliation, without any declaration on future electoral contests. The press conference and endorsement meeting were attended by APC stakeholders from across Langtang South, led by the APC Stakeholders Chairman, Nicholas Vongsing, alongside ward chairmen, chairladies, party executives, and numerous party supporters. The APC Faithful concluded by calling on the public and the media to disregard any statements or endorsements not issued or sanctioned by recognized APC structures, reaffirming its commitment to party supremacy, unity, and electoral victory in 2027.
