Child rights law 2025 - Child Protection Network trains Plateau judges, security operatives , others

By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

The Child Protection Network (CPN ) Plateau state Chapter with support from The Rule of Law and Corruption ( ROLAC) has commenced a two day training for judges and law enforcement officers in order to improve the application and enforcement of the state child rights law 2025 in the state.

Speaking at the occasion on Tuesday, the Plateau State Coordinator for the Child Protection Network (CPN), Mrs. Sandra Chikan said the training, which started on Tuesday, was to ensure that law enforcement officials, especially those dealing with gender and children’s issues, are fully versed in the law and its implementation.

Mrs Chikan elaborated on the rights granted to children under the law, emphasising the responsibility of parents and community leaders in guiding children.

In her words "I want to begin by saying that the key stakeholders in this room represent the men and women working tirelessly in the field to uphold the cause and the rights of children. '

"It is for that reason that you were carefully selected and invited to this capacity-building workshop."

"The Child Protection Network is a coalition of state and non-state actors united in the prevention of, and response to, child abuse, neglect, and exploitation at all levels."

She added that "Plateau State, in recent times, has continued to witness an increase in the number of child abuse cases."

"The Child Protection Network, in partnership with ROLA, initiated, supported, and put this program together because we found that it would be greatly beneficial to the children of Plateau State if we built the capacity of core stakeholders who are the duty bearers, of those who have been given the responsibility of ensuring that our children get justice."

". We hope that through this workshop, we will talk with one another, engage in meaningful conversations, and reach a point where we all agree as stakeholders that this cause is important enough for us to put systems and structures in place, and to collaborate."

The Plateau State Coordinator for the Child Protection Network (CPN) Mrs Chikan also added that at the end of training, participants would come up with strategies, collaborative calls to action, and programs within their respective organizations that will help protect children's rights.

"Especially for our legal officers, we hope that you will be strategically positioned to handle these issues effectively and ensure that justice for children is not delayed or denied."

Deborah Nyam a court Magistrate lauded child protection network for the training .

She charged participants to be open to learning ,this training is very important to the Judiciary ,Nyam further said .

PoliticsEgberipapa Lauds Return Of Democracy To Rivers State, Welcomes Fubara, Others by Josepholome(op): 1:08pm On Oct 27, 2025
RGM National Leader, Egberipapa lauds Return of Democracy to Rivers State ,Welcomes Fubara , Rivers Assembly Members

Distinguished members of the press, fellow Rivers people, stakeholders, and friends,.

After months of stalled democratic governance, Rivers people felt the pains of fading promises and hopes. It is not just refreshing but also reassuring to once again return to democratic governance.

On behalf of the Rivers Grassroots Movement, it is our honour to officially welcome His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, and the Rivers State House of Assembly as they resume the solemn duty of democratic governance in our state.

The turn of constitutional democracy in our state demanded that leadership would immediately respond to the yearnings of the people and restore confidence to the system.

We therefore commend the Governor for his swift response to the call of duty and for taking bold, people-centered steps that have begun to reactivate the economic life of Rivers State.

Under his swift direction, many previously stalled projects have been reactivated and contractors mobilised back to site — a development that signals renewed progress across critical infrastructure projects in the state and restores hope to communities that endured months of uncertainty.

We especially appreciate and applaud the Governor’s decisive action to revoke the ₦134 billion Secretariat Renovation contract awarded during the emergency administration — a contract that, in the judgment of Rivers people, did not reflect prudent fiscal management or the developmental priorities of the state.

By annulling this contract and ordering refunds of ₦20 billion in hastily-awarded payments, His Excellency has demonstrated the fiscal discipline and public-interest stewardship our people rightly expect.

We also applaud Governor Fubara’s approval for the payment of eight months’ salary arrears to newly recruited health workers under the Rivers State Hospitals Management Board.

The payment, confirmed to be disbursed alongside October salaries and covering approximately 1,000 health personnel deployed across the state’s 23 local government areas, addresses an urgent welfare concern and reaffirms the administration’s commitment to strengthening our health sector and supporting the professionals who serve our people.

Taken together, these actions — the reactivation of projects, the reversal of imprudent expenditures, and the prioritisation of workers’ welfare and health system improvements — illustrate a clear and welcome shift toward transparent, people-oriented governance that places the interests of Rivers people first.

The restoration of democratic governance has created the enabling environment for these positive changes.
As an organisation rooted in the grassroots and committed to promoting good governance and accountability, the Rivers Grassroots Movement hereby reaffirms its support for the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.

Our endorsement is not merely personal. It is an endorsement of the future of Rivers State — a future grounded in prudent stewardship, social investment, and tangible development for the people.

We congratulate the Rivers State House of Assembly for resuming its constitutional role and for partnering in restoring democratic governance. The swift return to legislative responsibility is a welcome signal that the checks, balances, and oversight necessary for accountable governance are being restored in the state.

In the same spirit of protecting the welfare of ordinary Rivers people, the Rivers Grassroots Movement is deeply concerned about the rapid escalation of rents and the proliferation of excessive agent fees and sundry charges in Port Harcourt, which are making housing increasingly unaffordable for many families.

The current economic realities — rising prices and dwindling household incomes — demand proactive legislative action.

We therefore call on the Rivers State House of Assembly to urgently review and carry out necessary amendments to the Rivers State Landlord & Tenants Law (Revised Edition Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, Edict 1991) to contain exploitative practices by some real estate practitioners, regulate unreasonable agent fees and sundry charges, and create mechanisms that protect tenants from arbitrary and predatory increases — while also ensuring that legitimate property owners continue to receive fair value for their assets.

Such amendments should be guided by the dual aims of housing affordability and equitable protection — to shield vulnerable families from exploitative practices, to promote transparent rental processes and fee structures, and to set enforceable standards that provide certainty to both tenants and property owners.

We urge legislators to engage stakeholders, including tenants’ associations, landlords, estate agents, consumer advocates, and community leaders, in crafting amendments that are fair, enforceable, and responsive to the prevailing economic challenges faced by Rivers people.

Taken together, the reactivation of projects, the reversal of imprudent expenditures, the prioritisation of workers’ welfare, and the urgent call to make housing affordable represent the kind of people-oriented governance that Rivers people sorely need.

As an organisation rooted in the grassroots and committed to good governance and accountability, the Rivers Grassroots Movement hereby reaffirms its support for the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS — not merely for the man but for the future of Rivers State that his leadership promises.

We call on all arms of government, civil society, traditional institutions, and every well-meaning Rivers person to join hands in rebuilding trust, accelerating inclusive development, and defending the common good.

May this renewed season of governance heal divisions, restore confidence, and deliver tangible improvements to the daily lives of Rivers people.

High Chief Hon. Amb. Sobomabo Jackrich (Egberipapa)

HealthPlateau Govt Restates Commitment To Nysc’s Rural Health Initiative by Josepholome(op): 2:08pm On Oct 26, 2025
By Golok Nanmwa,Jos

The Plateau State Government has reiterated its unwavering support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and its innovative programmes designed to improve youth welfare and promote community health across the state.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, gave the assurance during the flag-off of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), jointly organized by the Ministry and the Corps at Zandi, Jos East Local Government Area.

Declaring the free medical outreach open, Ashoms said the Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led administration remains firmly committed to partnering with the NYSC and other relevant agencies to enhance healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities.

He explained that the outreach reflects the administration’s broader vision of providing accessible, affordable, and community-centered healthcare to citizens across Plateau State.

“The Mutfwang administration is people-focused and dedicated to touching lives in tangible ways, Supporting NYSC’s health initiatives aligns perfectly with our resolve to take government presence to the grassroots where it is most needed.”

The Commissioner, who hails from Zandi, expressed delight that the outreach was being hosted in his hometown, describing it as symbolic of the government’s determination to deliver tangible impact at the local level.

He urged residents to take full advantage of the medical consultations and follow professional advice, noting that healthy citizens form the foundation of a productive society.

Ashoms further commended the NYSC for sustaining the initiative since its inception, describing HIRD as one of the Corps’ most laudable interventions, which continues to strengthen the bond between the scheme and host communities.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Yavala Jonathan, said the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, introduced in 2014, was conceived as part of the Corps’ corporate social responsibility to deliver free medical services to rural populations who lack easy access to healthcare facilities.

He revealed that in the eleven years since the initiative was launched, hundreds of thousands of rural dwellers across Nigeria have benefited from free consultations, treatments, and health sensitization programmes.

“The outreach has been extended to communities such as Lur in Kanke, Kwall and Miango in Bassa, and Angware in Jos East, Our team comprises doctors, pharmacists, optometrists, dentists, nurses, and other health professionals who volunteer their expertise to serve humanity.”

Tosin Ajayi’s DSS: Balancing Security with the Rule of Law

By: Deji Adesogan

One year on, DSS reforms show quiet transformation under Ajayi’s leadership. When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) on August 26 2024, expectations were high that the new boss would reform and reposition Nigeria’s foremost intelligence agency for professionalism, accountability and efficiency.

One year later, Mr. Ajayi’s quiet but firm leadership is reshaping the Service and restoring public confidence in its operations.

A career intelligence officer who joined the DSS in 1990, Ajayi is widely regarded within the security community as a disciplined, meticulous and reform-minded professional. Before his appointment he served as State Director in several states including Rivers, Bayelsa, Bauchi, Enugu and Kogi and later rose to the rank of Assistant Director-General. His elevation came at a time Nigerians were demanding greater transparency, professionalism and respect for human rights from security institutions.

Since assuming office, Ajayi has anchored his leadership on two core principles strict adherence to the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ rights within the framework of national security. He has made it clear that the DSS must operate as a lawful institution guided by constitutional boundaries, due process and accountability to the Nigerian people.

One of the most remarkable shifts under his tenure has been the Service’s effort to correct past injustices and strengthen its human-rights record. In July 2025, the DSS released 12 detainees who had been held under prolonged investigations and paid millions of naira in compensation. In another instance a Sokoto-based businessman who was accidentally shot during a past operation received ₦20 million and lifetime medical care from the Service.

These unprecedented gestures have been hailed by human-rights groups, civil society organisations and community leaders as a bold demonstration of the Service’s new commitment to fairness and justice.

Beyond reforms and rights protection, the DSS under Ajayi has also achieved notable operational successes through its tactical and field units nationwide. Working closely with sister security agencies, DSS operatives have disrupted several terror cells, foiled kidnapping plots and neutralised armed criminal networks across the North-East, North-West and Middle Belt regions. The Service has equally played key roles in pre-empting threats to national institutions, preventing sabotage and protecting critical infrastructure.

Security sources say many of these operations were intelligence-led and executed with precision a reflection of Ajayi’s insistence on professionalism, minimal collateral damage and inter-agency coordination. His emphasis on intelligence-sharing and community cooperation has improved synergy between the DSS, military, police and civil defence services.

Within the Service, Ajayi has implemented sweeping internal reforms to promote merit, discipline and gender inclusion. The appointment of Mrs. Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the first female Deputy Director-General of the DSS marked a historic milestone and underscored his commitment to inclusivity and leadership diversity.

In a major morale-boosting initiative, Ajayi approved a comprehensive welfare package that included salary and allowance increases for operatives, as well as the clearance of backlogs for officers due for promotion. These steps have significantly improved motivation, discipline and loyalty across the Service. Many personnel describe him as a leader who listens, leads by example and commands deep respect among staff.

Under his watch, the DSS has also expanded training opportunities for officers in modern intelligence techniques, cybersecurity and counter-terrorism. The Service now prioritises early warning systems, mediation and community-based intelligence particularly in volatile regions such as Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa where partnerships with local stakeholders have helped to prevent violent outbreaks.

High-profile prosecutions have featured strongly under Ajayi’s leadership. The DSS is prosecuting key terror suspects including alleged commanders of the Ansaru faction such as Mahmud Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) who was sentenced to 15 years following a guilty plea in a 32-count charge of terrorism and illegal mining. The Service also obtained a court order to fast-track the trial of Khalid Al‑Barnawi and four others, suspects in the August 26 2011 bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja. In addition, DSS action has targeted dismissed operatives: two former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, were arrested for impersonation and fraud and are set to face prosecution. These cases reflect a broader push by Ajayi’s DSS to ensure that both external and internal threats are addressed through the courts.

Despite these gains, challenges remain. Nigeria continues to confront terrorism, banditry and organised crime, while public scrutiny of security operations grows more intense. Balancing secrecy with transparency, and firmness with fairness, remains a delicate task. Yet under Ajayi’s leadership the DSS appears to be navigating this balance with renewed purpose and professionalism.

As he enters his second year in office, Ajayi’s leadership embodies a quiet revolution within Nigeria’s intelligence community one rooted in accountability, human rights, operational excellence and respect for the rule of law.

For many Nigerians, the DSS is gradually transforming from a secretive institution into a professional agency that safeguards national security while upholding citizens’ rights and dignity. If sustained, Ajayi’s era may well be remembered as the period the DSS truly redefined its mission in service to both the state and its people.

BusinessGECF : NNPC Ltd Hails President Tinubu On Ekperikpe, Mshelbila’s Emergence by Josepholome(op): 8:11am On Oct 24, 2025
PRESS RELEASE

NNPC Ltd Hails President Tinubu on Ekperikpe, Mshelbila’s Emergence as Chairman, Secretary General of GECF

NNPC Ltd. has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in the emergence of Nigeria's candidate, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Ltd., as the new Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), describing it as a historic moment for Nigeria and a testimony to the Federal Government’s Gas Agenda aimed at utilising natural gas as a major fuel for industrial growth and economic development.

Mshelbila, who was elected at the Forum’s 27th Ministerial Meeting held in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday, succeeds Algeria’s Mohamed Hamel as the 5th scribe of the global organisation, which has been a leading voice in positioning natural gas as a cornerstone of global sustainable development.

Speaking on the milestone, the Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari said, “NNPC Ltd. is proud of what Mshelbila has achieved at Nigeria LNG, where he has worked tirelessly to transform Nigeria's vast gas reserves into export-grade LNG, LPG, and condensates, serving domestic needs and global markets in the process,” he said.

“With this feat, Philip Mshelbila has put Nigeria on the global energy map for good. This shows that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s gas-to-prosperity agenda, aimed at utilising natural gas as the cornerstone of Nigeria's industrial growth, energy security, and economic transformation, is on the right trajectory,” Ojulari added.

He further assured that with Mshelbila at the helm of GECF, Africa, Nigeria, and indeed NNPC Ltd. will witness remarkable progress in the quest to make natural gas the pivotal resource for inclusive and sustainable development.

The GCEO also congratulated the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, on his emergence as President of the 2026 GECF Ministerial Meeting, saying the Minister has been at the forefront of championing efforts to harness Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for industrialisation and economic development.

The GECF is an international intergovernmental organisation that provides a platform for the exchange of experience and information among its Member Countries. Representing the world’s leading gas-exporting nations, the GECF aims to foster constructive dialogue between gas producers and consumers to enhance the stability and security of global gas supply and demand.

The organisation’s membership includes Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. It also has Observer Members in Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru, and Senegal.

Collectively, the GECF Member Countries hold 69% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, account for 39% of marketed production, contribute 40% of global gas exports, and represent 51% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

BusinessDigital Extraction: How Tech Giants Earn Big While Local Wealth Stagnates by Josepholome(op): 7:31pm On Oct 23, 2025
Nigeria’s Digital Extraction Problem: How Firms Like Optasia Profit from Nigerians Without Building Nigerian Wealth — and How to Fix It

A quiet digital drain is underway in Africa’s largest economy. A new generation of foreign “AI–fintech” vendors is monetising Nigerian consumers at vast scale, offering airtime advances, nano-loans, and algorithmic credit scoring through the country’s mobile networks. Optasia, formerly Channel VAS, exemplifies this model. It provides airtime and data credit services for telecom giants such as MTN and reportedly serves over 121 million monthly active users worldwide, processing tens of millions of micro-loans each day. Now, as the company seeks to raise roughly ZAR 6.3 billion, or about $375 million, through a public offering, much of its valuation rests on African—and especially Nigerian—transaction volumes. Yet the intellectual property, cloud infrastructure, and retained earnings all sit offshore. Nigeria provides the demand, the data, and the distribution rails; others reap the equity value.

Without deliberate policy intervention, the country is exporting value and importing dependency.
The mechanics of this extraction are straightforward but deeply consequential. These firms integrate directly with mobile network operators, mining subscriber data such as call logs, recharge patterns, data consumption, and repayment history to price nano-loans dynamically. They take a revenue share from every disbursed loan or airtime advance, yet the algorithms and data models that enable this system reside abroad while Nigerian users supply the behavioural fuel. Meanwhile, many of these companies operate through foreign parent entities, routing fees offshore under the guise of “technology services” or “licensing” payments.

This reduces local taxable income and deprives the Nigerian state of much-needed revenue. The rules that might address this—such as those governing Significant Economic Presence and transfer pricing—exist, but enforcement is inconsistent and often too slow to keep pace with the speed of digital innovation.

Even where these firms establish Nigerian subsidiaries, the local presence is minimal. Most employ only small teams handling sales, compliance, and customer operations. The high-value activities—research, data science, platform engineering—remain anchored abroad. The result is a digital ecosystem that extracts more than it contributes, providing few skilled jobs and almost no technology transfer or capital-market participation. Nigerians bear the credit risk and pay the fees, while foreign platforms capture the profits and, more importantly, the compounding equity value that global investors reward.

What Nigeria currently captures from this digital economy is a fraction of its potential. Taxation frameworks theoretically allow the country to tax non-resident firms and enforce transfer-pricing compliance, but profit shifting through intra-group service fees continues to erode the base. Consumer-protection regulations, such as the FCCPC’s digital-lending rules, focus narrowly on abusive lending practices without addressing broader questions of value capture, data localisation, or intellectual property retention.

The Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023 and the NITDA content guidelines provide a foundation for data governance, yet compliance remains uneven, particularly among telco-adjacent fintechs. Nigerians generate the data and pay the fees; others own the servers and the equity.

Other emerging markets have faced—and fixed—this imbalance. India’s central bank requires loans to be originated by regulated domestic entities and insists that financial data be processed within its borders. Indonesia’s financial regulator caps foreign ownership in peer-to-peer lending platforms and mandates local incorporation.

These policies are not protectionist but pragmatic: they invite foreign participation on terms that ensure domestic value creation. Market access, in other words, must come with national benefit.

Nigeria can achieve a similar balance. Policymakers should create a joint NCC–CBN licence category for telco-embedded credit and airtime advance services, ensuring that any firm offering such products operates through a locally incorporated and regulated entity. Data processing for Nigerian subscribers should occur within the country’s borders, using cloud environments that comply with national data-protection laws. Foreign firms seeking to profit from Nigerian users should hold a meaningful level of domestic equity, while intellectual property relevant to local operations should be escrowed within Nigerian jurisdiction for continuity and oversight. Companies should be required to disclose their Nigerian revenues, the share of data processed locally, and the scale of their investment in domestic R&grin.

Telecom contracts should be transparent and non-exclusive, ensuring that consumers, not just corporate intermediaries, share in the benefits. Enforcement of tax obligations should be strengthened through coordinated audits by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Central Bank, and the Nigerian Communications Commission. And when these firms list abroad, they should be required to offer Nigerian investors participation through depositary receipts or equivalent vehicles, ensuring that the country’s capital markets capture some of the upside generated by its consumers.

Optasia’s planned public offering crystallises a wider problem: Nigeria’s digital demand is enriching global shareholders rather than Nigerian citizens. The country already has the legal and regulatory architecture to prevent this outcome—the NDPA, the NITDA content rules, the Significant Economic Presence framework—but it lacks coordinated enforcement. The solution lies not in rejecting foreign technology but in insisting that those who profit from Nigerian scale also invest in Nigerian capability. Market openness must be matched by value reciprocity.

The next six months are critical. Regulators should issue a joint NCC–CBN notice of intent to formalise licensing for telco-embedded credit services, direct mobile operators to disclose and revise exclusivity arrangements, and clarify how inter-company platform fees are treated under existing tax rules. NITDA should enforce compliance on data residency and model training, while the Ministry of Finance and the Securities and Exchange Commission work together to enable Nigerian depositary participation in offshore listings linked to local operations.

Nigeria need not close its digital borders to reclaim value. What it must do is renegotiate the terms of participation. If foreign firms wish to monetise Nigeria’s data and demand, the price of admission must be measured in jobs, taxes, skills, intellectual property, and shared capital-market inclusion.

To remain open without being exploited, Nigeria must ensure that the digital wealth created within its borders stays, at least in part, within them. Market access should no longer be a one-way street. If others seek Nigeria’s scale, they must also help build Nigeria’s wealth.

BusinessNigeria’s Digital Economy Is Losing Its Way, Leaders Are To Blame (Opinion) by Josepholome(op): 5:45pm On Oct 21, 2025
By all objective measures, Nigeria’s digital economy should be entering its golden decade. The country has talent, infrastructure, entrepreneurial depth, and international credibility.

What it lacks—fatally—is the kind of leadership willing to defend its domestic digital ecosystem from foreign capture.

Despite unprecedented trust and latitude from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the current custodians of Nigeria’s digital portfolio, Dr Bosun Tijani, (Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy), Dr Aminu Maida (Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission), and Kashifu Inuwa (Director General of NITDA)—have so far failed to articulate or enforce a Nigeria-First digital industrial policy.

The result is a creeping dependency that threatens to turn Africa’s largest digital market into a client economy—profitable, yes, but not sovereign.

Nigeria’s digital policy
Under this administration, Nigeria’s digital policy has lost coherence and strategic intent. There is no unified vision for nurturing domestic innovators, no guardrails to prevent market concentration, and no framework for managing the growing dominance of multinational platforms in payments, cloud services, and connectivity.

Where the previous administration—through the Central Bank of Nigeria—once took principled risks to empower local fintechs, today’s regulators have adopted a posture of quiet surrender.

It bears repeating that Moniepoint, Kuda, FairMoney, and PalmPay were not accidents of innovation. They were the product of deliberate policy decisions that restrained commercial banks and created space for new entrants. That boldness catalysed jobs, investment, and investor confidence.

Today, that spirit is gone. The new orthodoxy seems to be appeasement—an open-door policy for MTN, Airtel, and other multinational giants expanding unchecked into fintech, identity, and digital services.

These firms now occupy multiple layers of the digital stack—telecoms, finance, and infrastructure—while homegrown startups are left to compete in asymmetrical markets, often without regulatory protection.

Nigerian regulators as cheerleaders
Rather than acting as referees, Nigeria’s digital regulators have become cheerleaders, celebrating every new “partnership” with a global brand as a sign of progress.

These deals, often marketed as “innovation enablers,” too frequently result in the displacement of Nigerian companies, the offshoring of local data, and the quiet erosion of indigenous capacity.

The consequences are visible. Nigerian startups are scaling down or relocating abroad. International venture capital and domestic investors are drying up as confidence wanes. Government ministries increasingly procure foreign cloud and software services, marginalising local providers, while Telcos are consolidating dominance over payments, identity management, and data—core layers once led by innovators.

The silence from the ministry, the NCC, and NITDA is not neutrality, it is neglect. For those who believe regulatory passivity is harmless, Ghana offers a sobering case study. There, MTN Mobile Money became a gravitational monopoly that swallowed the country’s fintech ecosystem whole.

Innovation withered. Startups died. Market concentration deepened to the point where competition became theoretical.

Nigeria is drifting down the same path—only with a larger population and higher stakes. When policy timidity becomes the default, market monopolies become destiny.

Reclaiming Nigeria’s digital sovereignty
Nigeria must urgently reclaim control of its digital destiny through a Digital Sovereignty and Domestic Participation Policy.

The sector desperately needs a comprehensive framework that defines clear boundaries between telecoms, fintechs, and digital platforms, prioritises Nigerian ownership and equity in strategic technology sectors, mandates data localisation and value retention, and creates competitive safeguards to prevent vertical monopolies.

No economy achieves self-sufficiency by outsourcing its digital infrastructure. Every great digital nation—from India to South Korea—has used industrial policy to protect nascent industries before exposing them to global competition.

Nigeria must do the same, not out of isolationism, but out of realism. Without red lines, telcos will dominate infrastructure and innovation, without a national digital charter, Nigeria will become a user base, not a producer.

The harsh truth is that the digital economy is not about visibility. It is about vision, vigilance, and the willingness to make unpopular choices.

Dr Bosun Tijani and Idris Alubankudi Saliu have yet to articulate a coherent framework for digital sovereignty or startup protection. Same as Dr Aminu Maida’s NCC which remains reactive, allowing mobile network operators to expand into fintech without meaningful competition safeguards. It’s worth remembering that they (being a regulator) championed the tariff increase for telcos and word on the street is that they are likely to approve another in the coming months.

Kashifu Inuwa’s NITDA appears more focused on pilot projects and publicity than on confronting systemic vulnerabilities in the local innovation base.

Of course, these are failures of conviction, and they risk reducing Nigeria’s digital economy from a source of pride to a cautionary tale.

Nigeria still has the ingredients for greatness, world-class engineers, a thriving developer community, a global diaspora of innovators, and a resilient private sector. What it lacks is a state willing to defend its own future.

If we continue on the current trajectory, the next wave of African innovation will not emerge from Yaba or Abuja, but from Nairobi, Johannesburg, or Dubai. Nigeria will still have user, but zero ownership.

The digital economy is the new oil. But unlike crude, it cannot be exported raw. It must be refined, protected, and governed with foresight.

Until then, policymakers must understand that Nigeria’s so-called digital revolution will remain a story of potential squandered and sovereignty sold.

PoliticsGroup Tells Tinubu To Call Professor Nentawe And The Plateau Apc To Order by Josepholome(op): 11:04am On Oct 18, 2025
OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR
THE PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

18th October, 2025

CALL PROFESSOR NENTAWE AND THE PLATEAU APC LEADERSHIP TO ORDER — THEIR ACTIONS ARE A THREAT TO YOUR 2027 RE-ELECTION BID

Your Excellency,

I write as a loyal foot soldier of your Renewed Hope Administration and as a committed advocate for your 2027 re-election, to express my deep concern over the recent political missteps of the Plateau State chapter of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and more specifically, the disturbing posture of its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

At a stakeholders’ meeting recently held in Jos — presided over by the National Chairman himself — a motion was not only moved but unanimously adopted to bar the incumbent Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, from joining the APC. The same meeting that enthusiastically endorsed your second term bid, paradoxically decided to block a sitting governor who could have been one of your strongest electoral assets in the North Central region. Sir, this contradiction speaks volumes about the growing disconnect between the Plateau APC leadership and your strategic national vision.

Mr. President, your administration’s success story is built upon political inclusion and bridge-building. Under your leadership, we have seen the Governors of Cross River, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom either align with or show strong indications of partnership with the APC in recent years. These moves have not only expanded our national base but reinforced your image as a President for all Nigerians. It therefore defies logic that the National Chairman of the APC — whose foremost responsibility should be to expand the party’s reach — is instead shrinking its horizon in his own home state.

How can a party that celebrates the defection of governors in other regions suddenly turn hostile toward one in Plateau, a state that remains crucial to the political arithmetic of 2027? Plateau is not a small state — it boasts over 2.5 million registered voters, a figure that could significantly influence the next presidential outcome. Any strategy that alienates its sitting governor is not only shortsighted but politically suicidal.

Your Excellency, the optics are terrible. It raises questions about the competence, sincerity, and political maturity of the National Chairman and his caucus. Rather than convening a meeting to block Governor Mutfwang, Professor Nentawe should have been hosting strategic engagement sessions to woo him and his supporters into the party — especially since he governs a state that produced the current National Chairman of the APC. What sense does it make that the National Chairman’s own governor is still in the opposition?

Sir, the lesson of 2023 should not be forgotten. Plateau was one of the states where we lost the presidential election despite having a sitting APC governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, as the Director-General of your Presidential Campaign. That alone should have taught our party that personality politics and local disunity can destroy even the strongest national efforts. Now that history is threatening to repeat itself, do we stand idly by and watch it happen again — this time under the watch of a National Chairman who appears to be more preoccupied with settling old political scores than ensuring victory for the President who appointed him?

It is widely whispered on the Plateau that Professor Nentawe still nurses personal bitterness over his 2023 gubernatorial loss and is quietly positioning himself for another attempt in 2027. If true, that would explain his hostility toward the current governor — and his attempt to sabotage your re-election bid in the process. Sir, if the man charged with uniting the APC nationwide cannot reconcile himself with his own state’s political reality, then it is time to re-evaluate his capacity to lead.

Your Excellency, Plateau people remain some of your most passionate supporters. We remember your fatherly intervention during the tragic episodes of insecurity, your empathy during the recent floods, and your generous appointments of Plateau indigenes into key national positions. The least we can do in return is to ensure that Plateau delivers overwhelmingly for you in 2027. But that will be impossible if internal saboteurs are allowed to weaponize party structures against genuine political expansion.

Mr. President, you are a master strategist — a bridge builder who understands that no region should be politically isolated. It is in that spirit that I respectfully urge you to call Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and the Plateau APC caucus to order. Their recent posture does not reflect your inclusive politics of unity, progress, and renewed hope. The door to any well-meaning Plateau citizen — including Governor Mutfwang — must remain open, if indeed our goal is to secure and strengthen your 2027 re-election.

I have no doubt that with your wisdom and statesmanship, you will once again act decisively to preserve the unity and strength of our great party — and to ensure that the North Central remains solidly behind your leadership.

Long live Mr. President!
Long live the All Progressives Congress!!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

Yours in struggle and loyalty,

COMRADE Prince Miaphen
National Coordinator,
Renewed Hope Advocates of Nigeria (RHAN)

IBUAM: Keyamo, Midala, Others Hail Balami, Say Through University, Tinubu Will Win Borno in 2027

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, has hailed Comrade Isaac Balami for his initiative in establishing a private university, describing it as a development that will attract more people to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the unveiling of the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), Keyamo said the “transfer season” was still open for anyone willing to join the APC, urging Balami to take charge of political mobilization in Borno State.

Commending Balami’s energy and vision, the minister recalled how the young entrepreneur first presented his dream of an aviation university to him shortly after his appointment.

“The moment I was sworn in as Minister of Aviation, one of the first people who came to my office was Isaac Balami. He shared his plans for the aviation sector. I remember it was around his 39th birthday. He told me he had just established an MRO in Lagos and that the Isaac Balami University was on the way,” Keyamo said.

He expressed surprise and admiration for Balami’s initiative at such a young age, adding that he was inspired to support him until the university received approval.

“This is another feather to my cap as Minister of Aviation. I can proudly say I’ve delivered my own polling unit in this sector. This aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to support the private sector and promote human capital development — two key pillars in our five-point agenda,” Keyamo added.

He described IBUAM as a “revolutionary achievement,” noting that it is the first of its kind in Africa by combining a flying school, aviation professional training, and an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility under one umbrella.

Also speaking, the member representing Askira Uba Federal Constituency, Hon. Midala Balami, praised the university’s founder, describing him as a symbol of resilience and determination. He said with the unveiling of IBUAM, political opposition in Borno had been weakened, and the stage set for President Tinubu’s victory in 2027.

“Congratulations to Isaac Balami for completing 40 to 50 percent of the campaign for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

In his remarks, Comrade Isaac Balami expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, Keyamo, Seyi Tinubu, Captain Chris Najomo, and others who contributed to the success of the project. He said his decision to remain in Nigeria and invest locally, despite the ongoing brain drain, was driven by his passion to contribute to nation-building.

Balami recounted his humble beginnings, noting how his parents sold their properties to support his education.

“The university is not just another tertiary institution; it is tied to an aircraft maintenance and overhaul facility in Lagos. Our goal is to produce 21-year-old graduates who can work anywhere in the world without supervision,” he said.

He called on state governments, ministries, agencies, and political leaders to sponsor students on scholarships, emphasizing that profits from the university would be reinvested into society through his foundation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced scholarships for 100 female students willing to enroll in the university, noting that empowering young women in critical sectors aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for gender inclusion and national growth.

The event was attended by dignitaries including the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, as well as senators, permanent secretaries, and captains of industry.

The convener further assured all candidates who scored cut off points of 200 and above to quickly go to https://www.ibuam.edu.ng/ to register.

It assured candidates that most of its scholarships will come from development agencies, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and North East Development Commission, NEDC.

PoliticsITF Screens 15,000 Plateau Artisans For Fg’s Skill-up Programme by Josepholome(op): 12:57pm On Oct 16, 2025
By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

The Industrial Training Fund yesterday began the screening of 15,000 artisans in Plateau State under the Federal Government’s Skill-Up Artisans programme, aimed at equipping Nigerians with vocational and technical skills.

Our correspondent reports that the screening exercise, held at the ITF Vocational Training Centre in Jos, attracted thousands of applicants seeking to participate in the nationwide empowerment scheme.

Speaking with journalists after addressing the artisans, ITF Director-General, Dr. Afiz Ogun, said the screening was crucial to identifying genuine applicants and ensuring proper placement into suitable training centres.

“We want to screen the artisans. We do not know who they are or whether some of these applications were done by proxy,” Ogun explained, stressing the need for physical verification.

He said the SUPA programme offers training in 24 trade areas, including information and communications technology, tailoring, plumbing, electrical installation, and hospitality, among others.

“We want to take as many people as possible off the streets and give them financial independence,” the DG said.

“For Plateau alone, we are screening 15,000 artisans within this period. We have our officers across all local governments of the state, and similar exercises are ongoing in other states of the federation.”

Ogun noted that one of the major challenges facing the agency was the shortage of standard training centres, appealing to both government and private individuals to invest in modern facilities.

“One of our biggest challenges is the inadequate number of centres,” he said. “We are not going to onboard trainees to shops in markets or makeshift spaces.

They will be trained in state-of-the-art facilities equipped with the right tools because they will be sitting for internationally recognised certification exams,”he said.

He added that such certifications would enhance the employability and competitiveness of Nigerian artisans both locally and internationally.

“We are looking for centres with proper tools, equipment, and a conducive learning environment. Look at the number here in Plateau, over 15,000 artisans and similar numbers are being screened across the 36 states and the FCT. Without adequate centres, we will have problems,” he said.

Ogun, represented by the Director of Technical and Vocational Skills Training, Mrs. Nancy Ekong, urged state governments to establish at least three well-equipped training centres in their states to support the programme.

“We are appealing to governments to help build quality training centres with the necessary equipment. If each state can provide at least three centres for key trades, it will make implementation easier,” Ekong said.

The Skill-Up Artisans programme is part of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's led Federal Government broader initiative to empower Nigerians with vocational skills, reduce unemployment, and promote inclusive economic growth.

CareerBuilding Wealth With Friends: A Legal Guide To Creating An Spv by Josepholome(op): 11:49am On Oct 16, 2025
By DAVID G. ENANG ESQ. MICIArb, AICMC

*INTRODUCTION*

In today’s fast-paced economy, riddled with inflation and multiple opportunities, most young people are faced with peculiar challenges of capital and mentorship. Yet, we have young people who are rewriting the rules of wealth creation. Instead of waiting for big capital or solo success, many are teaming up with friends to invest, build businesses, and grow assets. Imagine pooling resources with your closest friends to buy real estate, invest in startups, or launch a business. Instead of looking for financial freedom alone, you build wealth together with your closest friends. One powerful tool for this? Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs).

*WHAT IS A SPECIAL PURPOSE VEHICLE (SPV)?*

An SPV is a company formed for a specific purpose, such as:
1. Buying real estate or any kind of asset
2. Investing in a startup
3. Launching a joint business venture, etc.

An SPV is not just a group chat with friends talking about money and investments. It is a legally recognized business structure that protects your interests, defines your roles, and helps you scale. That’s the power of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) when done correctly.

*WHY SHOULD YOU CREATE SPVs WITH FRIENDS?*

Pooling resources with trusted friends allows you to:
1. Access bigger opportunities (e.g, a ₦10M land split among 5 people, likewise, a ₦7 billion land split among 10 friends to seize an opportunity in the real estate sector).
2. Share risks and responsibilities
3. Leverage diverse skills (finance, marketing, legal, tech)
4. Build a track record for future investors or lenders.

This business structure promises growth and opportunities, but without a legal structure, things can go bad very quickly.

As a rule of thumb in this type of venture, "Begin with trust but continue with contracts."

*HOW DO YOU SET UP AN SPV?*

Step 1: Assemble Your Dream Team.

Before you think about paperwork and profits, think about people. Your SPV partners should share a common vision, be trustworthy and financially responsible individuals. While you may hold the strong notion that even our most trustworthy friends can betray our trust given the right circumstances, the coming contents of this article will describe the safeguards to mitigate such occurrences.

Step 2: Form Your SPV

An SPV is typically a private limited company registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. If your company is to be registered in the United States, then it will be a Limited Liability Company (popularly called an LLC).

Step 3: Define Your Investment Strategy

Your SPV should have a clear investment goal. For examples:
1. Buy and flip residential properties in Abuja.
2. Rent, renovate and put out residential properties for short-lets.
3. Buy landed property and resale after it's value increases (Land Banking).
4. Invest in early-stage fintech startups
5. Launch a joint e-commerce brand

This clear goal will steer the direction of your SPV.

*LEGAL DOCUMENTATION & SAFEGUARDS*

For an SPV to succeed, every member or partner must be regulated and accountable. This is guaranteed by contracts and financial safeguards.

Considering that an SPV is typically a limited liability Company, it would typically have shares. You and your friends will own these shares. These shares should be regulated with a Shareholders Agreement. The shareholder agreement will spell out the profit-sharing formula using shareholding ratios, it will describe when and how to deal with the shares you own and even dictate the decision making power of every shareholder.

For instance, your Shareholders Agreement can restrict Shareholders from selling shares to outsiders without first offering them to existing shareholders in the SPV.

Every member and director of the company must be aware of their duties, powers, and liabilities. These are typically contained in the Articles of Association of the SPV. This document will spell out how the company will make its decisions and the number of votes required to make those decisions binding on the members and the company.

How about the issue of finance and misappropriation of company funds? Our banking system is more advanced than it used to be. A board resolution will be passed to determine who is responsible for what. This board resolution together with the mechanics of a well structured Articles of Association will safeguard how money is disbursed from your SPV's account, the Directors and Shareholders responsible for such disbursements and the requirements for any disbursement of company funds.

*PRACTICAL EXAMPLE*

Imagine you and four friends want to rent a 4 bedroom terrace duplex in Wuye, Abuja, and set up a short-let apartment. You each contribute ₦10M. You form an SPV called “Cozy Short-stay Ltd.”

Your lawyer helps you:
1. Review the tenancy or lease agreement. 2. Conducts search on nature of property use.
3. Registers the company.
4. Drafts a Shareholders Agreement and
5. Creates a rental management contract.

Now, you’re not just co-owners. You’re co-founders of a legally sound business. Profits from the business will be shared according to each party's financial contribution.

*CONCLUSION*

Building wealth with friends isn’t just possible. It’s powerful. With the right structure, strategy, and legal support, your SPV can be the launchpad for financial freedom.

PoliticsLawmakers Now PR Agent To Corrupt Politicians - Coalition by Josepholome(op): 8:05am On Oct 13, 2025
The Coalition of Independent Online Media Platforms has raised alarm over what it described as a growing trend of blackmail, propaganda, and abuse of oversight powers by certain members of the National Assembly, warning that such conduct threatens the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Speaking at a press conference, Chairman of the Coalition, Olubade Jimoh, alleged that some lawmakers have abandoned their constitutional duties and now operate as public relations agents for government officials facing corruption charges, while simultaneously targeting appointees who refuse to yield to their demands.

“It has come to our attention that certain members of the National Assembly are engaging in unprofessional conduct, including blackmail and propaganda, against government appointees who refuse to succumb to their demands,” the coalition stated.

The group cited the case of Honourable Philip Agbese, who recently made public comments exonerating former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of wrongdoing, despite the matter being before a competent court. “It was Honourable to have waited for the court’s decision,” the coalition said.

Among those allegedly targeted for refusing to cooperate with the lawmakers’ demands are Dr. Dauda Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State; Senator Alkali, Minister of Transportation; and Dr. Senator Gaidam, Minister of Police Affairs. The coalition claimed that online platforms have been used to spread falsehoods against these individuals.

“They go to online mediums propagating all kinds of lies against them,” the statement read.

The coalition singled out Sahara Reporters for criticism, accusing the platform of publishing misleading reports, including a recent article about Minister Nyesom Wike and the Council of State meeting.

“Sahara Reporters should know better that Wike is not a member of the Council of State and as such cannot be in the meeting, talk more of the report of being absent because the President refused the appointment of his protégé,” the group said.

Calling for responsible journalism, the coalition urged media platforms to uphold ethical standards and verify information before publication. It also encouraged whistleblowers with credible evidence of corruption to come forward.

“We will support them in their efforts to promote transparency and accountability,” the group assured.

In a strong appeal to the presidency, the coalition demanded decisive action against individuals, including those close to the President, who are allegedly involved in these activities.

“It is essential to promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity in our governance,” the statement emphasized.

The group further called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to clamp down on media outlets that publish fake and unverified reports, and announced plans to lead a protest and submit a petition to the EFCC and Police Headquarters in the coming days.

“We will ensure prosecution of the NASS members fingered in the $150 million Binance bribe saga and many other corrupt practices,” it said.

The coalition praised Premium Times and other platforms for their commitment to ethical journalism.

“Their efforts are a testament to the power of responsible journalism,” the statement added.

Christianity EtcLoveworld Medicaid Offers Free Eye Treatments To 18,000 Individuals by Josepholome(op): 8:18am On Oct 10, 2025
Loveworld Medicaid, a member agency of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International says no fewer than 18,000 individuals having eye challenges have received full free treatment and improved vision.

The Assistant Director, Loveworld Medicaid, Dr. Olajumoke Ola-Akisanya, made this known during a news briefing to commemorate the World Sight Day, and to mark one year of Loveworld Medicaid Vision 10,000 Free Eye Surgeries Initiative.

Dr. Ola-Akisanya said that the initiative, which commenced in May 2024, was targeted at indigent and underserved communities, to deliver free eye care services, including screenings, medical check-ups, surgeries, and provision of free eyeglasses to beneficiaries across the country and beyond.

She said that the programme had restored sight and contributed significantly to improved vision for individuals across Africa and Asia, illuminating lives and communities.

Ola-Akisanya said that 725 free corrective eye surgeries were carried out successfully, while 8,507 prescription glasses were dispensed.

She said that 8,069 individuals were provided with essential eye medications, to manage their conditions effectively.

``Thousands of diagnostic screenings and consultations were carried out across various communities such as Olusosun, Ibeju-Lekki, Isolo, Abule-Egba, Waru, Isheri, Tombia Kingdom, Oko, Erediauwa, Warri and even in Mumbai in India.

``Some of the beneficiaries have been known to travel inter-state just to attend these interventions because of the burden of their ill health and their great desire for relief and treatment,'' the Assistant Director said.

She described the Vision 10,000 Free Eye Surgeries Initiative as a bold step toward eliminating avoidable blindness and ensuring that no one was left in the dark because they could not afford care.

According to her, the crisis of visual impairment remains a significant global health challenge, as 1.1 billion people worldwide live with vision loss.

She said that in Nigeria alone, more than 24 million people suffer from varying degrees of visual impairment, with 1.3 million completely blind.

Ola-Akisanya expressed deep significance of the intervention, noting that ''Every restored sight is a story of hope rekindled''.

``We have seen the joy of children who once struggled in school finally able to read clearly. These stories reflect the initiative’s ripple effect: improved health outcomes and increased accessibility to life-changing care,'' she said.

Ola-Akisanya expressed gratitude to Chris Oyakhilome Foundation and other partners for their investment and support for the project.

In his remarks, the Clinical Director, Loveworld Medical Centre, Mr Emeka Eze, described the initiative as touching and transforming.

Eze said that there was the need for urgent intervention on the part of well-to-do Nigerians to support those who could not access medical care, noting that many cases only required little intervention.

``The point is some people cannot afford even simple interventions. Loveworld Medicaid’s intervention goes beyond surgeries; it is about access to care. Many people cannot access care, even when it is available.

``Blindness is not always caused by cataracts; sometimes it is due to infections, such as by worms in riverine areas of Nigeria. It could also be trauma, but many causes are treatable,'' he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Elizabeth Solomon, who had been blind for a decade, recovered her sight after undergoing surgery.

``I can now engage with my children and live without fear. I am grateful to Loveworld Medicaid and the sponsors,'' Solomon said

ADEYANJU COMMENDS PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU ON APPOINTMENT OF NEW INEC CHAIR

I wish to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for nominating Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This appointment reflects the President’s recognition of competence, as Professor Amupitan is the first indigene from Kogi State’s minority Ijumu community, representing the North-Central region, to be appointed to this office.

Professor Amupitan’s record of scholarship and service, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law, makes him a deserving choice to lead the Commission at this time in our democracy. I must admit that I had expected the President to appoint someone from his immediate circle or from Osun State, but this decision comes as a pleasant surprise.

PoliticsAMAC Chair Directs Immediate Withdrawal Of Radio-TV Taxes On Residential Houses by Josepholome(op): 8:51pm On Oct 09, 2025
AMAC Chairman Directs Immediate Withdrawal of Radio-TV Taxes on Residential Houses

The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has directed the immediate withdrawal of the radio and television tax on residential houses within the council.

This decision follows widespread concerns and outcry from residents who expressed dissatisfaction with the new levy.

The directive was announced at the AMAC headquarters, in a statement released by Kingsley Madaki
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Executive Chairman AMAC, Hon Christopher Zakka where the Chairman emphasized his administration’s commitment to listening to the voices of the people and ensuring that policies reflect the needs and welfare of the residents.

Hon. Maikalangu clarified that the initial rollout of the Radio-TV Taxes was intended to generate revenue for the council’s developmental projects, including provision of basic amenities, infrastructures and improvement of community facilities.

However, he acknowledged that the timing and implementation of the tax required broader stakeholder engagement and adequate publicity.

In response to the feedback, the Chairman instructed the council’s Revenue department to suspend all collection of the Radio - TV taxes from residential houses immediately and withdraw any demand notices already served to them.

He also ordered a review of the tax policy to ensure transparency and fairness.

Going forward, the AMAC administration will focus the Radio - Television Taxes solely on commercial establishments, such as hotels, restaurants, business premises and other offices, where the levy can be justified as a contribution to the council’s service delivery without burdening individual households.

PoliticsGov Mutfwang's Re Election, Most Noble Ambition For Plateau Says Commissioner by Josepholome(op): 3:27pm On Oct 08, 2025
By Golok Nanmwa, Jos

In what has been described as a moment of sober reflection and patriotic conviction, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman Gar has officially launched a campaign movement in support of the re-election of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, as Governor of Plateau State,
Tagged: VOTCA an acronym for Vote Caleb Again.

Speaking during the launch at his residence in Jos, Chief Usman Gar declared that at this crucial juncture in the state's history,"There is no ambition more important, more urgent, or more noble than ensuring the re-election of Governor Mutfwang."

The Commissioner extolled Governor Mutfwang's leadership qualities, describing him as "a rare gift to the state, a leader whose assertiveness, clarity of purpose, and unwavering prioritization of unity have steered Plateau through turbulent political waters."

He added that in a period when political tensions are heightening and sectional interests threatening to eclipse collective aspirations, "Governor Mutfwang has stood as a stabilizing force, prioritizing the state above self and politics."

Highlighting the Governor's developmental strides, the Honourable Commissioner cited infrastructural renewal, human capital investment, and deliberate efforts to foster unity across divides as tangible evidence of purposeful governance.

He warned that,It would be a monumental setback for Plateau to derail from this progressive path. God forbid!"

Chief Usman emphasized that a second term for Governor Mutfwang would provide the time and stability needed to consolidate his transformative vision, one aimed at restoring Plateau's lost glory and repositioning the State among the league of developed and progressive states in Nigeria.

Quoting from scripture, he said,
"Just as Joshua stood before the people and declared, 'Choose ye this day whom you will serve,' as for me and my house, we have chosen to follow the path of progress, unity, and development under the leadership of His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang."

Responding to issues bothering on his own senatorial ambition for Plateau Central, the Commissioner noted that while consultations with key stakeholders are ongoing, his political aspiration remains secondary to the collective goal of ensuring the Governor's return in 2027.

"Whatever ambition I have is fully aligned with consolidating the strides of His Excellency.

At this moment, the collective project is Mutfwang 2027, nothing else supersedes that," he declared.

With this bold and unambiguous stance, Chief Ephraim Usman Gar has demonstrated not only loyalty to Governor Mutfwang but also a deep sense of selfless leadership, placing the destiny of Plateau above personal political interests.

As the political atmosphere gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Commissioner's declaration signals the beginning of a strategic, people-driven movement founded on the conviction that Plateau's future remains safest under the leadership of a visionary and unifying figure whose impact is already evident across the state.

A delegation of PDP Ward Two from Mangu, led by the ward chairman, the councillor representing the ward, and other critical stakeholders, were also present at the unveiling.

They described Chief Usman Gar's initiative as timely, noble, and sacrificial.

They assured the Commissioner of their unwavering support at any given time.

Politics2027: Suit To Bar Jonathan Is Abuse Of Court Process, Says Senior Lawyer by Josepholome(op): 3:38pm On Oct 07, 2025
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oba Maduabuchi, has stated that the suit filed in the Federal High Court, Abuja to prevent ex-President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting in 2027 is “an abuse of court process.”

The senior lawyer made this known on Tuesday, while being interviewed on Arise TV's Morning Show.

An abuse of court process is when you want to relitigate a case or an issue that has already been settled by a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.

He added that Jonathan’s qualification or disqualification has already been adjudicated in Yenegoa, and since “nobody has taken that issue on appeal … until that judgment is set aside, it remains what the law is.”

Maduabuchi said any party who takes that settled issue to a court of coordinate jurisdiction is simply “abusing the process of the court” and branded such action as one by “a busy body.”

He observed that what controls any situation is the law in force “when the act in issue was done,” asking whether Section 1373 existed in 2010 when Jonathan took the oath of office.

He said the law only came into effect in 2018 and “when Goodluck Jonathan was taking the oath of office … there was no statutory limitation … which could inhibit him from running his constitutionally guaranteed two terms.”

He questioned whether Jonathan swore any oath after the amendment of 1373 and likened attempts to apply a later law earlier to punishing someone under a law that did not exist when the act occurred.

He recalled that judges’ retirement age was formerly 65, then changed to 70, and asked if a judge who had retired just before that change would sue to be reinstated under the new law.

He emphasised that law demands certainty, and noted that “in 2011 and 2010, when Goodluck Jonathan swore the oath … Prohibition of 1372 was not in existence. It was not binding on him.”

He said no “pyrotechnic” argument can breathe existence into a law that did not exist.

He further referenced a case in the Federal Court of Appeal which affirmed that Jonathan had the right to run and one cannot apply retrospective laws to him.
