Politics / Ondo 2020: Agboola Ajayi Eyes SDP As PDP Aspirants Reject Automatic Ticket by joshuaakindele7(m): 7:30am On Jun 29, 2020
The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has reportedly opened discussions with the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after he failed to secure the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This development, according to a source close to Ajayi is coming on the heels of the adamant posture of the PDP governorship aspirants who have refused to stand down their ambitions for Ajayi to emerge as consensus candidate for the party.

It could not be independently confirmed as at press time, if Agboola is among the various aspirants who have been discussing with the SDP but the party’s National Vice Chairman (Southwest), Olu Agunloye affirmed that some governorship hopefuls had approached the party to run on its platform.

According to the source, all entreaties to the PDP aspirants appear to have been unsuccessful even as the support of the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has not helped matters.

“The deputy can win on any platform since the aspirants of the PDP are becoming adamant. What they fail to realize is that it’s only the Deputy Governor who can stand shoulder to shoulder with Aketi and defeat him”.

“It is disappointing that the Oyo State governor will be openly backing Eyitayo Jegede simply because he is from Akure. We have been briefed of all his moves and logistics support for Jegede”.

“But I can assure you that if the PDP fails to play their own part of the bargain before the defection of the deputy governor, SDP shall be there for us and we will win the contest”, he said.

It was gathered that one of the issues mutually agreed upon by the Deputy Governor and the national leadership of the PDP was that the state leaders of the party were to rein in their 3 per ward delegates that have been elected many weeks before the defection of the deputy governor.

This write up doesn't make sense.

Why does it not make sense? None of the PDP governors were at the defection ceremony held yesterday in Akure. Agboola Ajayi was also the only one that defected. None of the assembly members or commissioner decamped with him.

Do you know what doesn't make sense, it's Secondus and Fayose coming down to Akure only to see that none of the people Agboola had promised the PDP came to the defection ceremony. He deceived them.

Politics / Ondo 2020: Why PDP Governors Shunned Defection Of Agoola Ajayi by joshuaakindele7(m): 8:00am On Jun 23, 2020
Less than 12 hours after his defection, fresh facts have emerged that deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi may have sold a dummy to the national leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on the state lawmakers who will defect along with him ahead of his formal defection to the party .

This comes as PDP Governors Forum at their virtual meeting over the weekend, resolved to excuse themselves from yesterday’s event because their presence could be interpreted as encouraging rebellion and treachery.

PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus had led a handful of party leaders to Akure, the Ondo State capital to receive Ajayi who dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) to run against his boss, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the October 10, 2020 governorship election on the ticket of the PDP.

It was gathered that the deputy governor had informed the PDP NWC and other national leaders of the party that about nine members of the State Assembly, two state commissioners as well as five special advisers were to resign their membership of the APC to join the PDP.

It was this assurance that reportedly encouraged Secondus to personally storm Akure to make a “harvest “, a source close to the national leadership of the PDP disclosed shortly after the departure of the national chairman of the opposition party to Abuja.

Ajayi had boasted at Kiribo, his hometown that nine Lawmakers were to follow him to the venue of the declaration just as the seven cabinet members would drop their resignation letters same day to accompany him to the state office of the PDP.

However, Secondus who had expected to see the new decampees was said to have asked from the deputy governor why they were unavailable. He reportedly asked: where are the nine lawmakers and commissioners, deputy governor?

“Nothing built on lies can stand. Now he has joined us and we have all seen how he deceived the NWC to risk the life our national chairman to come all the way from Abuja.

“As for the PDP governors, they weighed the implications of their possible presence at the event because they had held a virtual meeting where they concluded that none should come to the event so as not to encourage rebellion and treachery because it could be any of them tomorrow.

“It was quite embarrassing that the national chairman asked from the deputy governor the whereabouts of the nine Assembly members and the commissioners he promised would join him to defect.

“At least those of us who were selling some credible aspirants are now vindicated that the deputy governor cannot be trusted. They have seen it and the disappointment was written all over them at the event. The man, I mean Secondus left Akure unfulfilled because those lies could not make up.

“If he says it was his strategy to keep the commissioners and lawmakers in the APC, it is a lie because no politician who is worth his status will hide his potentials; they will rather flaunt borrowed potentials. So the question remains, where are the lawmakers?”

That's not true. Governor Akeredolu does not have any reason to jubilate over his suspension when it's not as if they have any disparity between them before now. They enjoy good relationship. Even Oshiomhole said it recently that Aketi is doing well in Ondo State.
Politics / Governor Akeredolu Denies Celebrating Oshiomhole’s Suspension by joshuaakindele7(m): 9:14am On Jun 19, 2020
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, on Thursday denied a report that he and his supporters were jubilating over the Appeal Court’s verdict affirming the suspension of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

The governor, who spoke through the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, described a report that he welcomed the plight of Oshiomhole as untrue and mischievous.

The governor said he could not be happy if the party was engulfed in a crisis let alone jubilating over the judgment against the national chairman of the party.

He said, “The level of concern may vary but as leaders and members of APC in Ondo State, we were greatly concerned not because of any personal reason but because we felt that the party didn’t need whatever intrigues that may shake the table at this point in time.

“So, like every other member of the party nationwide, we were all concerned. Mr Governor is the leader of the party and as such, he will be so much disturbed if there are crises in the party.”

If the government is waiving taxes, how are they going to generate funds to carry out their responsibilities?

I'm not trying to be inhumane or a bad belle, but these are uncomfortable issues that will arise after these waivers

I see it as a way of our politicians avoiding their duties and maybe chopping money sef throughout the post covid-19 era

After all, if dem no do your road, you no go fit complain because people no dey pay complete tax or some no dey pay again.

Make I dey watch sha

Pay tax, you complain. Tax cut, you still complain. So you would rather prefer the Government to continue to tax people even when they're not making much sales/revenue during this lockdown? You must be very wicked. When businesses use all their profits and capital to pay tax now and everything crumble, who will pay tax to the Government after the pandemic? The Governor has simply given Businesses a conducive atmosphere to continue to operate. You rub my back, I rub yours. That's how the society grows.

Kudos to Governor Akeredolu for this, He has set the pace. Hopefully other states' Governors will follow suit.

Politics / Akeredolu: I Am Not Bothered If Amotekun Will Cost Me Second Term Ambition by joshuaakindele7(m): 10:54am On Jan 21, 2020
Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that he is not disturbed over whether ‘Operation Amotekun’ may affect his chances of getting a second term in office.

Akeredolu, who is Chairman of South West Governors Forum, said he was only on the path of national cohesion with the collaborative internal security by the formation of Amotekun and not for any political ambition.

In a statement by his spokesman, Donald Ojogo, the Ondo State governor said that he will not be discouraged by the de-marketing of the regional security outfit aimed at addressing the daunting security challenges in the South-West.

He said, “In the case of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of Ondo State, it is pertinent to state that he is not perturbed by the possible consequences of leading governors of the South-West in the formation of Amotekun.

“In particular, fears and apprehension have been expressed in many quarters that his role in the formation of Amotekun could affect his second term chances.

“This is far from the truth because Governor Akeredolu is on the path of national cohesion through collaborative internal security.

“The decision taken in respect of Amotekun was in the interest of the entire country and not the South-West alone.

“The political insinuations and blackmail are the required ingredients needed to make it credible. But such will not discourage the governor in any manner.”

American football is a very lucrative sport. Far more lucrative than football. As at today, American Football is the highest grossing sport in the world. The Dallas Cowboys of the USA is the richest sport club in the world with net-worth value of $5billion. Only real Madrid came close with $4billion. I am certain Nigeria will definitely profit from this sport if we look into it.

Politics / Ondo Promotes 9,704 Public Servants As Governor Appoints Four New Aides by joshuaakindele7(m): 10:56am On Nov 20, 2019
The Chairman of the state Civil Service Commission, Afolabi Adewakun, who stated this on Tuesday, in Akure, added that three civil engineers at the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure were given special promotion for their outstanding performance.

Mr Adewakun said the promotion exercise was part of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants in the state.

He said a total of 2,261 deserving civil servants were promoted, based on the briefs forwarded to the commission by the service matters department, office of establishment and training, various ministries and extra-ministerial departments.

Mr Adewakun said same exercise also took place in all self-accounting government agencies, boards and parastatals, where 7,443 officers were promoted.

He further stated that 190 officers across various the civil service cadres had been given approval to retire either mandatorily or voluntarily after serving the state.

The chairman said promotion was never automatic as being insinuated in some quarters, adding that only deserving officers benefitted from the exercise.

“I wish to remark that the welfare of workers has continued to be on the front burner since the inception of this administration in February 2017 and that training and retraining programmes have engendered higher productivity, leading to better service delivery for the people of the state.

“In the light of his worker-friendly disposition, Gov. Akeredolu graciously approved the special promotion of one grade level credit for three (3) deserving civil engineers at the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for carrying out extensive cost-saving road rehabilitation works across the state.

“This is an indication that any outstanding performance will not go unnoticed and unrewarded by government.

“In line with other statutory functions of the commission, five prospective applicants were recruited into areas of special needs, as approved by the governor; they have since resumed duties,” he said.

Mr Adewakun added that some officers were not considered for promotion due to issues bordering on discipline, like financial embarrassment, prolonged absence from duty without official permission and general misconducts.

“Sanctions such as reprimand, written warning and downgrading have been meted on erring officers. Some officers have also been placed on suspension, pending the final determination of their cases,” he said.

Mr Adewakun urged the newly-promoted officers to reciprocate the gesture by being more productive, dedicated, diligent and absolutely loyal to the service. (NAN)

Meanwhile, Mr Akeredolu on Tuesday approved the appointments of Ebenezer Adekusibe, Lulu Fawehinmi, Clement Dada, as senior special assistants and Peace Odili as special assistant to the governor.

Olusegun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Akure, the state capital.

Mr Ajiboye said the appointments were with immediate effect.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Adekusibe was made Senior Special Assistant on Finance while Mr Fawehinmi was appointed as Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Strategic Communication.

Similarly, Mr Dada was enlisted as Senior Special Assistant on Mobilisation and Mrs Odili made Special Assistant on Public Procurement.

The new appointees were charged to see their appointments as a challenge to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

“The governor wishes them success in their respective assignments,” Mr Ajiboye said.

Politics / Gov Bello Is Our Choice Whatever It Takes,’ Oba Yoruba Community In Kogi Says by joshuaakindele7(m): 7:20pm On Nov 14, 2019
By Mohammed Ahmed Yabagi

The Oba of Yoruba Community in Kogi State, Alhaji Bello Audu-Oke has assured that members of his domain remain solidly behind the candidature of Governor Yahaya Bello in this weekend’s gubernatorial and Senate polls.

He said the Governor has given account of himself as the number one citizen of the state by carrying all groups along in his style of governance, hence their decision to back him solidly by voting him massively to ensure a landslide victory for the APC.

The Oba gave the charge on Wednesday when he granted audience to the APC leadership from Ondo State in company of the state’s government functionaries when they paid him a campaign visit at his palace in Lokoja.

Alhaji Bello said despite the presence of the Yoruba in Lokoja more than a century ago and their forebears being born in the Kogi State capital and environs, they have never enjoyed government patronage like they are currently doing under Governor Bello.

He particularly mentioned the decision of the Governor to grade their traditional Chieftaincy stool, a decision he said has endeared Governor Bello more to the hearts of the Yoruba people, hence their commitment to returning him for fresh mandate on Saturday.

The Oba used various positive adjectives to qualify the persona of Governor Bello, and assured his guests that he had already mobilised his subjects in all parts of the state to ensure block votes for the APC.

Speaking, the APC Chairman for Ondo State, Engr Ade Adetimehin stressed that they were in Kogi State as a mark of reciprocity for the sterling roles played by Governor Bello three years when the incumbent Governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu contested his election which the party won.

He said the Yoruba were people who appreciate any positive gesture done them, and urged the leadership and the entire members of the community to vote for and continue to canvass votes for the APC.

The party chairman noted that Governor Akeredolu, like Governor Bello, is a detribalised leader who has given a sense of belonging to all ethnic and religious bodies in Ondo State by appointing aides from their members to represent their interests in the state Executive Council.

The group, which was canvassing for votes for the APC visited many parts of Lokoja the state capital, especially Ward A which is populated by various ethnic groups in the country and took the message of need for the return of Governor Bello to them.

The delegation also included the Majority Leader of Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Jamiu Sulaiman Maito; the Special Adviser Political to the state Governor, Rt Hon. ;Victor Adekanye Olabimtan
APC Organizing secretary, Hon Charles Fagbohunka; the Women Leader, Mrs Renike witherspoon Renny Kay; the treasurer, Deacon Moshood lshoola; aides on Hausa, Ebira and numerous others.

Politics / Senate Approves N10 Billion For Kogi Three Days To Election by joshuaakindele7(m): 6:33pm On Nov 14, 2019
Source: PM Newspaper

Three days to the governorship election in Kogi State, the Senate has approved promissory notes and bond issuance of N10.069 billion to the state as refund for projects executed on behalf of the federal government.

The approval on Wednesday was criticised by opposition lawmakers who asked that the approval be delayed till after the election.

They were, however, outvoted by majority senators.

Kogi, like the Senate and the federal government, is controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The approval was a sequel to the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts which considered the promissory note programme and a bond issuance to settle inherited local debts and contractual ibligations on the refund to state governments for projects executed on behalf of the federal government.
A promissory note is a debt instrument which one party promises in writing to pay a determinate sum of money to the other, either at a fixed or determinable future time, under specific terms.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on October 15 asked the Senate to approve the issuance of N10.069 billion promissory note to Kogi State government for projects done on behalf of the Federal Government.

He had said the 8th National Assembly passed the resolutions approving the issuance of promissory notes to 24 out of 25 state governments, leaving Kogi State.

The chairman of the committee Clifford Ordia, presented the report, asking the Senate to approve the amount requested having met with the permanent secretaries of the ministries of Finance and Works and Housing.

He said the committee also met with representatives from ministries of finance and works and Housing in Kogi State to consider the report.

Mr Ordia said the Kogi State Government conducted projects on seven federal roads and has paid all the contractors – hence the recommendation that the amount be approved.

“Based on our findings, some of the highways were in the state of disrepair before the intervention was carried out. The state government has paid all the contractors that constructed the road.

“Our humble recommendation, is that the Senate do approve the refund of N10 billion for projects executed on behalf of the federal government,” he said.

Prior to the approval, the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, kicked against the recommendation to approve the refund.
He noted that the timing for the approval is wrong as the state is expected to hold its governorship election on Saturday.

He asked that the approval of the money be delayed by one week.

“What I don’t want is the misuse of these funds because it is for the people of the Kogi State. This is not the right time, this is the time where the exigencies of the moment may be used.

“There is no harm in approving this money. Let the approval be delayed by just a week,” he said.

But the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said the Senate’s approval of the refund is only coinciding with election.

“Kogi State applied applied for this in the last Senate, all the other states were paid. Kogi was not approved at that time, we as a Senate has seen as a necessity and it is a coincidence,” he said.

Despite disagreement from some lawmakers in the chamber, Mr Lawan put the question to vote. The amount was eventually approved after a voice vote.

The approval by the Senate means the state can now access the funds amidst fears it could boost incumbent governor Yahaya Bello’s war chest for the Saturday election. The governor had in the past, however, pledged to ensure judicious use of the refund.

The Kogi State governorship election holds on Saturday. The election is expected to be a close contest between the governing APC and the main opposition PDP.

Nairaland / General / From The Len Of An Observer: The Exceptional Leader Loved By All by joshuaakindele7(m): 7:57pm On Nov 11, 2019
Friday, the 8th day of November, 2019 smelt different in my town.

There were small clusters of people in different nooks and crannies and everyone I met that day had a big smile on their face. Bike men were extremely nice and I wondered what infected everyone.

For one reason or the other, I had to be at the airport and the what I saw made me wonder a little more.

Men and Women in different uniformed groups,
Young and old danced to an imaginary beat as the only sound I heard were those of car and bike honks.

The joy and exuberance in the atmosphere was so thick and infectious.

I forgot to mention this was about 2.30pm and no single squeezed face did was in sight under that scorching sun and high heat.

It was a tug of war to go in, you’ll think the likes of Burnaboy or Davido were in town.

Eventually, I entered and the airport at that time was filled with cars and so many people that I wondered if the town still had people left in it because it seemed everyone gathered here.

Women danced to beats from talking drums,
Young guys danced zanku, Ibo boys with the legendary striped red, white and black cloth cap (the type Santa wears) danced the traditional Ibo dance to their traditional beat and whistle,
I even counted about three pregnant women,
Old men who counted their steps while walking,
Matching outfits everywhere.

Lest I forget; the dignitaries, lots of dignitaries showed up.

Was there a carnival I did not get a memo to?

Fast forward to 5pm, whoever everyone gathered there to see had not arrived but all were patient, excitement fast turned to admiration and longing on the faces of the people. Anytime a siren was heard, people who were denied access to the arrival lounge gathered around the barricade of the runway and hailed whilst chanting songs of victory. (I was of the opinion that a plane be in sight before the shoutings but the opposite happened).

In 15mins, everyone went to sit. Some sat in and on cars, some on grasses, some in gutters, more under the sun than under shades.

The dedication was jaw dropping.

Finally, as if some kind of rapture was about to take place at the sound and sight of a plane, the singing and dancing began again, everyone on their feet, I even saw guys climb the reservoir to watch.

The beautiful part was immediately the man they all patiently waited for showed face, every one had their two fists up and all moved it upwards at the same time whilst hailing.

I heard women praying, thanking God he came back

Men greeting themselves in some form of victory code

I couldn’t help but smile, Security men ran around trying to clear the road, It looked like the people’s saviour had arrived.

Like a flash of light, I saw the man, glowing, all smiles, waving at the people and I did not even know when I waved too.

All I saw was pure love.

No, what I saw was beyond if some people were mobilized or not,
It was beyond humans working for their pay check, What I saw was pure love.

My town is Akure City, Ondo State.
This man is the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu.

Regardless of what you’ve read, heard or seen about this man,

Be reminded today that he is loved by his people.

Politics / Ondo Re-awards Road Project, Saves N4billion by joshuaakindele7(m): 5:17pm On Nov 09, 2019
The Ondo State Exective Council on Monday reawarded the 28.5 km Aboto / Atijere road in Ilaje Local Government Area of the State for a contract sum of N8billion.

The project was inherited from the immediate past administration which had awareded the contract for the sum of N12 Billion on a contractor/client financing arrangement.

Briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting on Monday evening, Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands, Works and Infrastructure, Engr Aminu Raimi said the state government after reappraisal of the project, saved N4 Billion by re-awarding it for N8billion.

He said: “Part of the issues considered at the Exco meeting is a project inherited from the previous administration. Before the present administration came on board , the Aboto / Atijere road was awarded for N12bbillions as a contractor / Client financed project.

"The immediate past administration awarded the contract to Zhi Jiang Construction Limited in October 2016, but this administration reappraised and revalued the project and converted it to client financing which saved the state of N4 Billion after the contract sum was brought down to N8 Billion.

”This government was also magnanimous enough by reawarding it to Zhi Jiang Construction Limited, the same contractor that was the engaged by the previous administration to continue with the job but when the government realized that the contractor refused to mobilize to site , the second bidder , LEE Fakino Nigeria Limited , was invited and went through the tender board where it got the contract.

“So, the second bidder was considered and and the memo was sent to council which has now been approved. The contractor will mobilize to site as soon as the weather is clear and as usual, payment will be made on milestone achieved .

Raimi also disclosed that some school projects in Ikorigho Ugbo in Ilaje local government area of the stastat which were to be constructed as model schools would now be constructed as classroom blocks with a concrete walkway so as to allow the pupils access to the schools. The school projects were also awarded by the last administration .

Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) acting Managing Director, Akwagaga Enyia, has disclosed that N6 billion 132/33kv sub station to provide electricity for over 2,000 riverside communities in Ondo State, will be ready for use soon.

The NDDC acting managing director, who was in company with the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, said she was excited the commission was constructing a huge power station in the oil-producing area of the state.

It was gathered that the project got stalled for over 10 months due to non-payment of outstanding Interim Payment Certificate (IPC).

However, the NDDC met the obligation last week and work began in earnest as a target completion period of first quarter of 2020 has been agreed between contractors and the commission.

“I was told that for sometime, there was delay in the progress of work on site. When I came on board as the acting managing director, I made sure funds were released to put the project on fast-track. That is why work is going on at a much faster pace now,” she said.

Enyia stated that it was one of the key projects with many months of outstanding IPC, which the commission had cleared to pave the way for progress at the site.

Enyia assured that as more funds were made available to the commission, payment would be sustained to guarantee early completion of the project, stating that the contractor had promised to complete the project by the first quarter of 2020.

The deputy governor expressed delight that over 2,000 oil-producing communities spread across five local government areas of Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Okitipupa, Odigbo and Irele, all in Ondo South Senatorial District, would benefit from the sub-station.

Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, Niger Delta Power Holding Co Ltd., Ifeoluwa Oyedele, said the inspection by NDDC was significant because it underscored the importance of collaboration among agencies of government.
