The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will jail more corrupt Nigerians if re-elected. Prof. Osinbajo spoke on Sunday during his house-to-house campaign in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State. He said grand corruption, which plagued the 16 years administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contributed to the lack of infrastructure for Nigerians. Osinbajo said the Buhari-led APC government would focus on jobs for youths, power and providing enough resources to financially empower petty traders and business owners. “The difference between us and the PDP is that we don’t steal government resources. We use it for the people. We earn less and we spend more on the welfare of people than the previous government. “Everybody know Buhari is an honest man. He will not steal public fund. We shall continue to fight corruption so that we can have enough money to provide infrastructure. We have to build on the foundation we have laid. “The corrupt people will be jailed. That is why the corrupt elements in the opposition are desperate to regain power. We can’t leave government for the thieves. “You should vote for APC because it is the only party that can do the job. We should not allow PDP to return to power,” he said. Prof. Osinbajo said that the issue in the coming election was creation of jobs for youths, more power supply, provision of infrastructure, adding that the present administration planned to complete Lagos-Kano Rail, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Second Niger Bridge. “The next level will be much better than today. More power will be available to the people and there will be more infrastructure. Too much corruption have retarded our progress. That is why Buhari is fighting corruption. “If there is no corruption, there will be money to carry out the developmental projects. Buhari will fight for young and old. He will not allow anybody to steal public funds. “Government will decentralized power so that there will be adequate and efficient distribution of power in the country. Government will provide adequate electricity supply for the household, artisans, corporate organisations and business enterprise,” he added. 1 Like 1 Share

In a bid to breed fish and have a high yield, the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), is set to introduce cage culture for fishermen in the riverine area of the state. The Chairman of the commission, Mr Gbenga Edema stated this while featuring as a guest on The Hope platform recently According to him, the cage culture was to encourage people to breed fish, so that they can have total control over yield against the usual crude fish catching in the wild. His words:”One of the problems we have in the riverine area is that we don’t culture fish. Fish is still being caught in the wild. So they don’t have control over yield. “Some people who are at the brink of the Atlantic Ocean just go to the sea to catch fish or crayfish and they are subjected to the vagaries of the sea. “Sometimes they can’t go there because the tidal waves is very high and sometimes they go without a single catch and they have burnt fuel down there. The same way in the inland waters, they don’t have control over the catch. “This is why we are trying to introduce what we called the cage culture. “So we are already discussing with a lot of organisations including the Fishery Society of Nigeria, FISON, to help us train our people and supervise the project. “By the time we have cage culture and we put the people in cooperatives, they can harvest up to three times a year because we were told we can crop from four to six months a year. depending on the specie of the fish. Edema also said that the commission was demonstrating a drying or smoking kiln to give fishermen modern way of smoking or drying the fish and to also improve the shelf life of the products. “When we finish our experimentation and it works, we are planning to mass-produce the kiln for the benefit of our people. We also want to see that the cage culture is replicated for our people’s use. He restated that the commission would bring people in under cooperative societies as they may not be able to afford it as individuals. “And by this, we can also invite the banks to come and give financial support”, he added. The Provost of the College, Dr Felix Olawoye made the disclosure while monitoring the probation examinations organized for year one students of the school in Akure. According to him, the health facility will be used as a model for other health schools in Nigeria saying, “it is one of the best in Nigeria.” While speaking on the examination, he noted that it is important to organize it so as to confirm the authenticity of students’ results. His words; “The probation problem examination is for year one students and the pass mark is 50. They write it after three months of training, after which the best students was chosen according to performance. “We have the capacity to admit 964 students but because we don’t compromise, we can go lower than that if we feel they are not really performing.” While lamenting the poor performance exhibited by some students of the school, he attributed it to their desire to study courses they have little knowledge of. He said: “We have discovered that most of these students are not science based. You can’t give what you don’t have. Most of them get their results from miracle centres, and when they get here, they find it difficult to cope.” He appealed to parents to allow their children have solid foundation before sending them to health schools saying, “We cannot compromise standard.” While affirming the school’s high standard, he hinted that the school has been leading other schools in the country, noting that “our students in NLT department did excellently well in the last Council examination as 67 out of 68 students presented passed compared to other institutions which recorded less than 20 percent pass. “We have been dealing with standard and we won’t compromise. President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in Abuja reiterated his commitment to eliminate corruption in campaign financing in the country, pledging that he will not authorise the use of any money from the treasury for his re-election campaign. Speaking at the close of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, President Buhari directed cabinet ministers to take advantage of technology to reach out to voters on the need to return the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration in next month’s general elections. “As political parties spread their ideologies and views to every nook and corner of the country, the issue of cash payment to voters and its corrupting influence in electioneering has once again become a topical issue. “Try and use text and multi-media messages to seek votes for the party and government. ‘‘There is no money from the treasury for use in the campaigns. I will not authorize that,” he said. President Buhari declared that the APC-led administration has a clear development agenda best suited to take Nigeria forward and sustain economic development. ‘‘This message needs to be taken to all Nigerians but we cannot use money from the treasury to share out to prospective voters. ‘‘Nigerians want change and we alone can deliver that change. Our people can no longer be swayed by money politics,’’ he said. The President also used the occasion, which was a valedictory session for the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Hajiya Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, to wish the minister success in her electoral contest. For example, the first phase, (i.e. A-Division to NEPA Roundabout portion), of the A-Division to Ijoka Road dual carriage way will be completed before the end of the first quarter of 2019. Also, the 7km Akure-Idanre alternative route will soon be completed. The Ondo State Government has intervened on several fronts to ameliorate the suffering of our people. Some of the completed/on-going interventions include: Construction of Ore Intersection Fly over bridge; ‘A’ Division – Ijoka Dual Carriage Road; Construction of Oke Alabojuto in Ikare; Construction of Gaga Community Road, Akure; Rehabilitation of Owo-Ikare Road; Construction of Ajagba – Sabomi Road Construction of 2.76km Idanre Township Road; Construction of Iwalewa – Alafiatayo – Hospital Road; Completion of dual carriageway of Owo Township Road; Construction of Bye Pass, Igbokoda Road, (12.7km); and In sum, the total project cost of these initiatives is over N60 billion out of which more than N10 Billion has been paid. As part of our effort to salvage the perennial power outage in the Southern Senatorial District of the State, the Ondo State Government are deploying stand-alone solar power solutions in 33 Communities of the Zone. As at now, the Aboto, Ebute-Ipare and Igbobini have been powered while another Community will also be energized in the next few weeks. It may also interest you to know that Ode-Aye has been reconnected to the national grid after about a decade of darkness and other towns will soon be reconnected in Southern Senatorial District. As workers jockeyed for a new minimum wage of N30,000 across the country, the labour force in Ondo State yesterday expressed confidence in the ability of the state government to pay the anticipated wage. The vote of confidence was passed by the National President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba at a rally organized by the NLC to drum support for the minimum wage. Wabba who spoke through the congress National Auditor, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose said the labour friendly disposition of the Akeredolu led administration showed that it would solidarise with labour. He lauded the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for his commitment to the N30,000 minimum wage and urged him to prevail on his recalcitrant colleagues to shift position. He emphasised that workers were even convinced that the N30,000 was small as it was not up to 60 dollars at the exchange rate, arguing that workers have been sympathetic enough to the federal government. “I remembered when they increased the fuel pump price from N97 to N145, this government promised to give palliative measures but up to this moment there is no palliative measure and labour did not foment any trouble. “For two years now we have been on this. We proposed N65, 000 new National Minimum Wage but later came down from N65,000 to N30,000 during negotiations to enable government pay, and I think it is magnanimous enough for any government to embrace. “Today, we are here because we don’t believe in fomenting trouble. Labour doesn’t believe in bringing Nigeria down and that is why we staged the peaceful protest to sensitise all the governors for them to know that workers have been cooperating enough and we also need their cooperation. This issue of N30,000 minimum wage is not about today. “Workers are the landlord. Governors will come and go but workers remain. We are appealing because we don’t want to call workers to vote against this government in the forthcoming general elections,” added. A letter of appeal written by organised labour was also presented to the government. Addressing the organised labour, the governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ifedayo Abegunde, appreciated the organised labour for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner and promised that the state would do the best for the workers when the National minimum wage is approved by the Federal Government. The governor reassured the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of its administration’s unwavering commitment to improved welfare of workers in the state, noting that government would not relent in its efforts to better their lots. According to him, government would do the needful and make workers happy, even though the present minimum wage was a national issue. He explained that the workers have always appreciated the present administration for regular payment of salary including arrears inherited from immediate past government. In separate interviews with The Hope, the Chairman, Ondo State council of the NLC, comrade Tayo Ogunleye, and his TUC counterpart, comrade Ekundayo Soladoye, expressed worry over what they called undue delay by the federal government to transmit the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee on a new National Minimum Wage to the National Assembly for approval. According to the duo, the peaceful mass protest was to sensitise the public including Nigerian workers on the possible nationwide strike, adding that government is insensitive to the plight of workers in the country. They threatened that the organised labour would not hesitate to mobilise against any anti-workers’ government in the forthcoming general elections.
