Politics / Threat To Blow Up Alaba Market: CP Odumosu Deploys EOD Personnel, Others To LAG. by Journi2America(m): 10:12pm On Jun 02, 2021 |
Threat to blow up Alaba market: CP Odumosu deploys EOD personnel, others to Lagos markets Vanguard News CP Odumosu The Commissioner of Police , Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu has deplored personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal , EOD unit to markets dominated by Igbo traders in the state , with a view to detecting and detonating any combustive substance that could be planted there. This move followed a video that went viral on social media where traders, especially those in Alaba International market, Ojo, were warned of an impending attack on the market by some unknown persons. In the video, traders were instructed not to treat the information with kid gloves but to be alert . In a meeting with leaders of markets dominated by the Igbos in Lagos, yesterday , at the Police Officers Wives ,POWA hall, Ikeja , CP Odumosu, reiterated the command’s resolve to ensure safety of every Lagosian , irrespective of their tribes . Addressing the traders, Odumosu, stated that information of such , would never be treated lightly, whether it turned out to be true or false. As a first step to ensuring that none of the markets was attacked, he said the Police had begun a Show of Force across the state , in collaboration with other security agencies, informing that all the security agencies were prepared to wade off anyone or group of persons that intend to create problems in Lagos. Noting that security was a responsibility of everyone, he urged the leaders to go back to their respective markets and pass the message to others, calling on the need for them to strengthen their internal security at their respective markets and watch out for strangers and any suspicious movement of materials into the markets. Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, Odumosu said, “ We are aware that about 72 hours , avideo went viral wherein somebody b alleged that Alaba International market wants to be attacked, especially the electronic section. Because it was said to be a particular group, we decided to extend the meeting to all the major markets, not only Alaba International market alone. We have those from TradeFair where we have the concentration of same set of people. We have them at Ladipo market, computer village and part of the Island. ” The purpose of the meeting is to let them know the preparedness of the command , should any security breach come up and that they should go about their lawful businesses without any fear of any attack. “We have heard of the areas where they said they needed assistance, like manpower , police stations and posts. I advised them on how to enforce their own regulations within their markets, to empower their own officers because we know at their markets they have their own task force that enforce their regulations. We told them to empower them (task force ) and that they must not ascribe it to any tribe and also , that they must not allow any form of disunity among them because they need to close ranks so that collectively they will fight any external aggression if there is any”. “Some of the resolutions reached include the need to illuminate the market because in darkness crime strives; that nobody should be allowed to sleep in the market at night; that they should have a holding bay where goods are kept because If they allow them to load at night, some people may cash-in in on that . “ It was also agreed that combustive substances should not be sold in the market; that all electricity gadgets must be put off before leaving the shops to avoid fire incidents and the need for them to say something if they see anything and we have given them our telephone numbers to that effect. On the part of the command, “ our strategy won’t be disclosed but one thing is that as part of our proactive measure, we started a show of force at the Alaba International market and across the length and breadth of Lagos to mobilize our resources, in order to let the criminals know that we are ready, as well as to let law abiding citizens know Police are there to protect them. “ We are not just having covert patrol . What we have is increasing our presence. The EOD personnel are already out. They are everywhere. Infact for the past two months now, we have been b having training and retraining of all the officers of the command right from Area Commanders, DPOs and others . All are part of proactive measures to prepare the police for any eventuality”. Earlier in their responses, some leaders from the respective markets who spoke, lauded Odumosu’s efforts at ensuring they were saved and called for more action on the part of the command, noting thatsince Lagos was the only secured state in the country, there was need for all hands to be on deck tosustain the tempo. Sports / EPL Take Decision On Deducting Points From Chelsea After Leicester City Brawl by Journi2America(m): 9:44pm On Jun 01, 2021 |
Daily Post Chelsea have escaped a possible points deduction, after their players were involved in a brawl with some Leicester City stars, during a Premier League clash. Instead, the FA has decided to fine both clubs £22,500. Thomas Tuchel’s men won 2-1, to avenge their FA Cup final defeat. But tempers flared between the players, following Ricardo Pereira’s tackle on Ben Chilwell. Politics / Insecurity: No Plans To Attack Govt House, Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri .uzodinma by Journi2America(m): 10:52am On May 25, 2021 |
The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has come out to deny news making the rounds that some parts of the State would be attacked by hoodlums. The refutal by Uzodinma followed rumours in the wee hours of Sunday, about alleged fresh attack on the State Government House, and the foremost Assumpta Catholic Cathedral Owerri. Addressing worshippers at the Victory Chapel, Government House Owerri last Sunday, Uzodinma urged Imolites to disregard such news as they were baseless. Blaming rumour mongers for peddling falsehood as a new means of instilling fear in Owerri residents, Uzodinma declared that the State is safe and serene, hence charged everybody to go about their daily legitimate businesses. From the video clip of the governor obtained by Trumpeta Newspaper, he said, “I discovered that there is a deliberate attempt to put fear into our people by rumour mongers. They raised rumour that Assumpta Cathedral will be bombed, Government House will be bombed; “As I have spoken severally, I assure the people of Imo State that the events of last weeks or last month where hoodlums or bandits came into Imo State and started attacking people, I have said severally that those dissidents will not repeat itself in Imo State again”. Uzodinma continued, “So, I want you to ignore any rumour that will suggest that any part of this State will be bombed or attacked, I told you severally that God has taken over, and there is nothing, nothing God’s willing, will happen”. Reacting on Army and Police presence across Owerri metropolis, the Imo Chief Security Officer posited that both the army and police have been directed to do their work. He submitted that anybody claiming that Army people are invited to the State for shooting and killing people is a liar, rather he said that army and police can only come out if there are cases of robbery or shooting by hoodlums. “So, those who think they can blackmail security agents not to do their work, are wasting their time. If you are carrying AK47, or pomp Action guns without your license, and the security agents see you, they will arrest you. Those that have been arrested have been charged to court. In a related development, governor Uzodinma on Sunday made a revelation about true identities of the hoodlums. While all ears were open to hear of the culprits, he said out of the one hundred and fifty persons arrested and charged to court, over 70 something of them are not from Igbo. According to the governor, “And I want to let you know that those causing this havoc, most of them are not Igbo people. Most of them are not from here. So when people carry propaganda that Fulani people are here to kill Igbo people, it is not true. Rather, what we have seen are kidnappers and armed robbers going around robbing our people, sponsored by some idiots who think they can make Imo State a theatre of war”. Politics / Coup Rumours As Malian Soldiers Detain President, Prime Minister by Journi2America(m): 10:30am On May 25, 2021 |
Malian soldiers upset with a government reshuffle took the president and prime minister to an army camp outside the capital Monday, officials said, raising fears of a second coup within a year in the crisis-stricken country. President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane lead an interim government that was installed after a putsch in August under the threat of regional . Two senior officials, who declined to be named, told AFP that soldiers had taken Ndaw and Ouane to the Kati military camp on the outskirts of the capital Bamako. Their detention followed a sensitive government reshuffle on Monday afternoon, which was designed to respond to growing criticism of the interim government. The military kept the strategic portfolios it controlled during the previous administration in the reshuffle. But two coup leaders — ex-defence minister Sadio Camara and ex-security minister Colonel Modibo Kone — were replaced. The reshuffle also came at a time of growing political challenges in the capital Bamako, and pressure to stick to the deadline for promised reforms. Unconfirmed rumours of a potential coup were swirling around Bamako on Monday evening, but the city remained relatively calm. Briefly reached by phone before the line cut, Prime Minister Ouane told AFP that soldiers “came to get him”. The United Nations’ mission in Mali, known as MINUSMA, called for calm in a tweet, and urged the immediate release of Ndaw and Ouane. “Those who hold them will have to answer for their actions,” the UN said. ‘Send a message’ Young military officers ousted Keita on August 18 after weeks of protests concerning perceived government corruption and his handling of Mali’s jihadist insurgency. After the 15-nation West Africa bloc ECOWAS threatened sanctions, the military junta handed power to a caretaker government that pledged to reform the constitution and stage elections within 18 months. Coup leader Assimi Goita was appointed as vice president of the caretaker administration, and the interim president, Bah Ndaw, is a retired army officer. Many have doubted whether the military-dominated government has the will, or the ability, to stage reforms on a short timescale. Among other problems, the vast nation faces a major logistical and security challenge, as swathes of territory are in the hands of jihadists. Doubts remained despite the interim government last month pledging to hold a constitutional referendum on October 31, with elections to follow in February next year. On May 14, amid growing anger, the government then said it would appoint a new “broad-based” cabinet. An official at Mali’s interim presidency, who requested anonymity, said the reshuffle was designed to send a message that “respect for the transition deadline remains the priority”. He also underscored the necessity of replacing the defence and security ministers. “They are not emblematic figures of the junta,” the official said, referring to the newly appointed ministers. – Political feuding -In an example of mounting unease, the opposition M5 movement — which spearheaded protests against Keita in 2020 — this month urged dissolving the interim government and demanded a “more legitimate” body. But the M5 is divided. Two members of the Union for the Republic and Democracy party, for example, were appointed interim ministers Monday. The party is part of the M5. Civil disputes in Mali are also adding to the pressure created by political feuding. The country’s largest union, UNTM, called a second week of strikes Monday after pay negotiations with the interim government collapsed. Education / Senate Approves Bill Seeking To Upgrade Yabatech To Varsity Status by Journi2America(m): 12:50pm On May 24, 2019 |
Source;https://lailasnews.com/senate-approves-bill-seeking-to-upgrade-yabatech-to-varsity-status/amp/ Senate approves bill seeking to upgrade Yabatech to varsity status lailasnews.com May 23, 2019 8:32 PM The Nigerian Senate has on Thursday May 23 passed the bill that Yabatech be upgraded to the City University of Technology (Est, etc) Yaba Bill, 2018 for second reading. Ll Senate approves bill seeking to upgrade Yabatech to varsity status - lailasnews Senator Gbenga Ashafa (APC-Lagos) moved the motion at the plenary presided over by Senate President, Bukola Saraki in Abuja. The bill was sought to transform the Yaba College Technology (YabaTech) in Lagos State to the City University of Technology Yaba, NAN reported. Leading the debate, Ashafa, who represents Lagos east senatorial district, argued that if the bill is considered, it would enhance the capability of the institution to achieve its objectives. “Nigeria’s steady march towards education for all in the shortest possible time has taken a giant leap with the introduction of this bill. “I am personally excited by the prospect of transforming this polytechnic to a university of technology because it will motivate both students and academic staff. It will also upgrade the facilities and enhance it capability to achieve its objectives. Similarly, the new university of technology will encourage the advancement of learning and hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring a higher and liberal education,” he said. Citing instances, the lawmaker noted that in similar circumstances in the United Kingdom, most of the polytechnics were upgraded to universities. ”If Nigeria has plan to become one of the world’s leading economies as currently being pursued by government, we must be ready to adjust and position our educational institutions so that its products are geared for the technological challenges inherent in such projections,” he said. When the motion was put on a voice vote, it was unanimously adopted by the legislators. Saraki, therefore, referred the bill to Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND for further legislative action and report back within a week. Also, the Senate also passed a Bill for the Establishment of Federal Polytechnic Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki Lagos, sponsored by Ashafa for second reading.

Nairaland / General / The Pains And Cry Of African Child. by Journi2America(m): 6:46am On Feb 22, 2018 |
Found this educating.... May every guilty parents as me, learn from this. #Copied African Kids. When I was about nine years old, one Saturday morning, my mom travelled and my siblings weren't around, it was only me and my Dad that were at home. I decided to do something great, first to make my Dad happy and second to make my mom ask who did this when she returns. I decided to mop the house. To make the places clean. I took the rubber bucket in the house while my dad was in his room, put some water and was carrying it to clean the room. Suddenly the bucket slipped from my hand and broke. The bucket broke. I was sad. But I felt bad more because I couldn't fulfil my dream of making my Dad say "you are a good boy", that statement that always made me high inside. I had to first clean the spilled water and report my mistake to my Dad. So when my Dad came out and saw the splashed water and broken bucket, I was still explaining how I wanted to mop the house and then... He was getting a whip and he flogged me. I wept and more so bitterness filled my heart. Oh this is a man I wanted to make happy, did he really see I was trying to be a good child, doing a job without being asked? I went to the back of the building and cried bitterly. As I was crying, I vowed that I will hate back, do evil and even leave that house. Revenge is what I wished. Though little time cleansed the resolution but the experience is still here even after two decades. Most of our African parents due to poverty, transferred aggression and impatience kill the genius in their kids. They flog out the problem solver in their kids. When the child would take one week to figure out how to Make an electric car with woods, how his parents would be called the parents of the one that invented a car... Just as he is about starting the construction, the mother would use a whip and format his brain. "is it the expensive firewood that I bought that you are cutting, have you washed all the plates in this house it's now car you want to build, car builder, do you know how much firewood costs and do expect me to cook the food you and your brothers will eat with my hair?" Each statement is sandwiched with a slap. Such kills thinking and morale. It makes kid very bitter. The African child has no support to be adventurous. The African kid's innovation is killed when he's still trying to start. The genius in him gets a stupid mockery. His actions are judged and not his intentions. Even if you have a mischievous child, causing problems everywhere, be careful with that little child. Be careful enough to separate when he is being unruly and when he's being innovative. Ask him questions, if he starts crying before talking or if he keeps quiet, give him confidence to talk. When he takes scissors and cut your clothes because the tailor in him is shacking his head, the action may leave you furious at first such you can't remember his/her good intentions, you can scold him but the next day, make sure you go to the market and get her pieces of clothes to practice with. Tell her/him to sew all he wants. A dream suppressed in a child may never rise again. The African child do not have access to the best of schools, he doesn't have access to the best enabling environment, he lacks the best of teachers and resources. He is naturally disadvantaged to be an innovator, the last thing he needs is for his mind to be shut from exploring that equal advantage of thoughtfulness. Meanwhile my Dad is a great man, just an African parents who can make decision catalyzed by poverty, many of our parents are great, but we the younger generation should be better. We should let our kids evolve. |
Religion / Why you must avoid lateness to Church.A must to Read!!! by Journi2America(m): 6:18pm On Jan 28, 2018 |
*LATENESS TO CHURCH...!!!* Ever since I was born, I have not seen many people arrive late to the airport when they are traveling. In fact, when the plane is taking off at 11:00pm, the person will be at the airport by 7:00pm, wow! That's how much people value travelling overseas!! Same when they have to go to court they will be at that Court not less than 30 minutes before the appointed time. But on a Sunday morning when Church has long begun, that's when you see men and women with 'swag' gliding like a wounded tortoise to Church. They know they are late, Church starts at 10:00 am but people will come at 10:30am or 11: 00 am why? They think all they need is just to be present and show their faces to their friends. Just take the test to call them on Monday at 5:30 or 6:00 am , you'll realise they are already on their way to work and some will be there already. Know this today, anytime you go to Church one minute late, you have NOT attended Church at all. If Christ is saying 'where two or three are gathered, I'm in their midst', you think He comes late? The time you give is the time He keeps. What does it mean to arrive late to Church? 1) Disrespect to Christ 2) Betrayal of Christ 3) Disregard to the Church and the Pastor 4) Interruption of an eternal program *Very important. Forward to as many Christians you know. We must deal with this situation in the church.* |
