THE VOW PART 1

I slept in that day. I should have known my body was preparing me for something awful. I was feeling unwell and lazy. Now that I know everything I know, those were signs of something bad about to happen as my mom always said.
The door opened as I was finishing with dinner.
“Hey honey, I am in the kitchen!” I said as I finished serving everything on the table. When I heard no reply I called again. “Babe?”
When I heard nothing again I got scared because I did hear the door open. I almost started panicking when I went towards the passage and there he was, my husband. His tall and handsome self was busy whispering to an unknown woman. I sighed in relief because it was not some intruder.
“Honey, I have been talking to you from the kitchen and when you didn’t answer I thought an intruder was in the house. Why didn’t you answer, do you know how scared I was?” I said as I went and helped him remove his jacket and gave him a kiss on the mouth.
“So you are going to introduce us or should I do it myself?” I teased with a smile he didn’t return. I was becoming worried now.
“Baby, I think we should sit down first,” he took my hand and led me towards the couch. And the woman (maybe I should call her a girl as she looked to be about my younger sister’s age) sat at the couch as well.
“This is Mary and she is going to live with us from today onwards,” my husband said as he looked at me straight in the eyes, as if expecting me to go mad any minute.
“Baby I know you have no problem with adoption, but I think she is a little older to be adopted. She looks like she is 20 years old. Old enough to be able to have a family of her own,” I said as I stood up and made my way to the kitchen. “Honey, can I talk to you privately?”
“Whatever you want to say to him you can say in front of me. I mean, since we will be a family, we should start trusting each other. Sit down,” she said as she took my husband’s hand and pulled him back on the couch.
“Little girl, first, get your hands off of my husband. Who do you think you are? What gave you the guts to come into my house and order me about?” I was starting to feel angry. This girl was acting as if she owned both my husband and my home.
“What gives me the confidence? Well…you would be confident too if you were pregnant by a married man with a barren wife,”
I flinched like she had slapped me. I froze and become an ice sculpture. The only difference was I was a breathing one.
I turned to my husband, waiting for him to deny what the little girl just claimed. But he looked down in shame and I knew, I knew what she had said was the truth.
“Brilliant, did you cheat on me?”
I know it was obvious that he did, but I refused to believe it. There was nothing that I didn’t do for him, there was a lot that I sacrificed for him. Only a heartless man would cheat on a wife that was yet to deny him anything after being married for 6 years. And I refused to believe that my husband was heartless.
“Every month end, for 6 months, he has been going home to see his mom for a week. Come on, did you think he would just stay there for the whole week without sex? Grow up,” the girl answered for him again.
My friend’s sister loved to say ‘Just because your man is not having sex with you doesn’t mean he is not having sex at all,’ and now I understood what she meant.
I remembered him looking down when he came home 6 months ago, but I had thought it was probably his mother harassing him to take a second wife again. His mother hated me from the beginning and being unable to fall pregnant multiplied the hate.
“Even if you are pregnant girl, this is my house and you will respect me. Do you understand? You will not talk to me unless spoken too, so stay out of our conversation!”
She looked like she wanted to argue but my husband gave her a look and she kept quiet.
“Nyiko, I know you are angry but just be open-minded please. Mary will be living with us, so this is her house too,” my husband finally opened his mouth but what came out of it sounded like the biggest fart I have ever heard. The loudest and smelliest too.
“What will she be exactly? A prostitute or the second wife?” I said calmly. I was so calm I didn’t feel like myself. It was like I was having one of those out of body experience.
“She is having my baby, something you were unable to do despite being married for 6 years. If anything, she is more my wife than you, so I suggest you show her a little respect. Show her the guest room to put her things and finish serving the food, I am hungry. I didn’t get angry I just did what he said.

          BROKEN SCALES

A woman comes to a shop & asks for food to be cooked for her children.

The shop owner asks him how much money does he have?

The woman replied, "My husband died in the war, I have nothing to give except PRAYER."

The owner answered curtly, "Write down the prayer!"
 
The woman took out a piece of paper from her wallet & handed it to her.

"I wrote this last night while looking after my sick baby." said the woman

The shop owner roughly took the paper & put it on the side of the ancient scale.

 He said,
"I'll give you food as heavy as this paper."


How shocked he was, when he put a piece of bread on the other side of the scale, the scale didn't move at all ...

he added a piece of cheese ... then a piece of meat ... the scales still didn't budge.

Finally because he had put so much food in, the scales could no longer contain anything.

He handed a bag to the woman & said,
"You have to put it in the bag yourself."

The woman goes with tears of joy ...

The shopkeeper just found out that the scale was broken right when he put the woman's prayer paper.

In his curiosity he read what the woman wrote:
"GOD, Give us today our daily bread"

THE POWER OF PRAYER CAN DO SOMETHING AMAZING & DO THE PROBLEM THAT LOOKS IMPOSSIBLE.
