@jpphilip,do you lack tact?.what i wrote was "Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu",clearly stating his rank as a Nigerian army officer,I then further went ahead to say "..was a trained Nigerian army general...",clearly stating his position as the leader of the Biafran revolution.what is so hard to understand in those two statements i typed?,i wasnt calling ojukwu a ranking general,i was simply highlighting his position as the topmost Biafran warlord.
kai!,do you call the leader of a revolution,a 'colonel'?,immediately ojukwu declared the sucessionist state of Biafra,he ceased to be a Nigerian army colonel, and became a general of his people.ojukwu was the hero of your people and that of your father.
Ojukwu took a sizeable portion of the Nigerian armoury, otherwise what did Biafran soldiers fight with for 3 years?,are you saying that biafran soldiers butchered over 50,000 Nigerian soldiers with only kitchen knives?
If you are still confused, then i rest my case.
PS: Nigeria had over 200,000 infantry men after the war, learn!.
Your falsehood will not get you any where, if there is any answer you desire in that conflict, by all means I will oblige you, speculations and emotions can never be a substitute for truth...............Gani Fawehinmi.

This was your comment:

Colonel Odumegwu Ogukwu, the then leader of the Peoples Army of Biafra was a trained Nigerian Army general,
Does that comment make any sense to you? how can a colonel in the Nigerian army be a trained Nigerian General? so in your village, after training a General, you give him the rank of a colonel? you must have made that statement in error, admit it and move on, you had no idea what Ojukwu's rank was before the war, you probably just learnt that, we all learn everyday!!

I will no longer join issues with you on how Ojukwu got his arms, I wrote a song you need to sing to a Biafran war veteran to get your answer, until you do that, I have nothing more for you, I believe it is easier than internet bickering,
I know that i must have thrown some older minds into nostalgia with that song I wrote, I dont expect any poor student of history to understand that anyways!!

Can you prove to us from a credible source that Nigeria raised 200,000 soldiers after the war? do you have any idea what defense budget will maintain 200,000 soldiers, I wait patiently for the miracle in your response.

@jpphilips,Ghadaffi proposed the disintegration of Nigeria,we had to recall our ambassador over ghadaffi's inciting statements.Did people really expect us to side against NATO and support ghadaffi?,to forfeit our interest, foreign policy and national pride all in the name of a non-existent african solidarity?,what brotherhood do we share with libya?,have you forgotten that libya is an arab country?,these people dont even consider themselves as africans!.
A country that makes decisions based on petty emotions will collapse..
at that time, libya was our enemy, and as the saying goes: the enemy of my enemy is my friend,so we supported NATO
tomorrow, libya could be our ally, thats how international politics works.
would you advocate that we should support palestinian invasion of isreal too?,that we should support islamic thugs masquerading as palestinians to surround isreal by inhabiting gaza and westbanks, all in the name of an imaginary brotherhood?.
use your sense,if you actually have one.
OK! do you as an African ever think of where your interest lie? Before the unfortunate comment from Ghaddafi, you forgot that same Ghaddaffi proposed the African Dinar for exporting African countries like Nigeria viz his united states of Africa, with a harmonized single currency backed by gold.
Have you ever thought of how robust that will make our economy? Can you imagine a Nigeria selling her crude oil in Naira thereby pushing demand for the naira? have you phantomed the economic benefits of a strong naira in an import dependent economy like ours?

Amidst the plethora of economic opportunities his proposal wield, you were only interested in an unfortunate comment he made, in your ingenuity, it is enough to remove and kill one of the most brilliant leaders Africa has ever produced, quite thoughtful of you.

Did you ever for see what you will lose if Ghadafi was removed? you supported NATO because of an unfortunate comment, but NATO did not tell you the intelligence report on Ghaddafi as evidenced by the committee of Inquiry on the circumstances that led to the death of the US ambassador to Libya, it is a fact that not only did he suppress clandestine opposition, he played a role of African police that kept most terrorist organizations like Alshabab and Al qaeda at bay, same thing Saddam hussein was doing that the west are regretting removing him, I guess you don't know that much, do you?

Let me recount the fall out of that petty decision you took, the death of Ghadafi emboldened several terrorist organisations to operate in Africa freely, already existing terrorist organisations became tougher that an army like ours at some point looked like Boy scout where boko haram is, do you sincerely believe that it was a coincidence that Ghaddafi's armoury was looted and terrorists over ran Mali in months?

Do you think it was a coincidence that Ghaddafi's amoury was looted and boko haram graduated from local guns to anti aircraft guns?

The emboldened Boko haram has cost us over 13,000 citizens (Army and civilians so far), large swathe of territory, made a mockery of our national pride with Chad (may Allah reward you guys) coming to our rescue, Nigeria losing revenue in billions to sustain the war leading to an economic mess that has greatly devalued the naira, three Nigerian states in that region ended up with a state of emergency for a long time crippling economic activities that rewarded them as one of Nigeria's most indebted states, a liability the country will have to shoulder for a pretty long time, sincerely tell me,

If you knew Ghaddafi's death will cost you this much, would you sanction his death if you were given a second chance?

Meanwhile Chad has asked for permission to move in but you were dragging your feet, hope it is not Chad moving in on friday because you hav e just made their job very difficult.

Why are they not working like POS machines?

I just don't have ample time on my hands right now to correct some of their erroneous misconceptions about karma
especially the one the OP made and ridiculously used Christ's crucifixion to buttress her error, not knowing that it is
Christ's crucifixion that makes the concept of karma useless!

Nobody is saying actions don't have consequences but you have to put it in context and not chalk up every

GEJ all the way till Buhari finds his Certificate.
too late bro

OBJ may not have insurgency but how much did Jonathan spend in fighting insurgency? which is clear to you and I that it prolonged because of his negligence, (judging by 6wks success vs 5yrs cluelessness).

If GEJ had the least sincerity of purpose, Boko haram was not supposed to last beyond 1yr, max 2yrs, is it why a govt wont achieve anything in 5yrs?
he may have spent 900b fighting Boko haram also remember that OBJ spent $12b, to declare Nigeria debt free, the reason Jonathan is able to borrow today?

Also recall that OBJ saved over $40b in our foreign reserves and created the Excess crude revenue account, two smart moves that immune Nigeria from Global melt down twice in his administration.

Fall in crude prices= Affect oil producers alone, other nations can still help.

Global meltdown = low oil price + declining world economy, in Global melt down, all your foreign investors will pull out their investments and funds, you don't make money because crude price will be low and you cannot borrow because the major creditors IMF, World bank are all broke, even when they have, their terms is so over the roof that no sane govt can meet it, that was what OBJ dealt with and you and I did not even notice.

Today, ordinary Subsidy that Obj paid with ease, was causing riot for Jonathan let alone drop in crude prices, Nigeria nearly collapsed.

There is no leader without Challenges but how you manage yours is what shows your depth and content, Jonathan has proved that he lacks what it takes to lead this nation, only his beneficiaries think otherwise.

Do you know that there was a full blown war between 1967 to 1970 in Nigeria, not insurgency, a conflict with the highest casualty figures in the history of Africa, can you imagine what our economy looks like at the time? Enugu where our coal was coming from was affected, oloibiri oil was affected, but by the time Awolowo took over finance and the political will of a 32yr old Gowan, Murtala Mohammed and Obj, Nigeria enjoyed yet another oil boom in 1975-78, ask yourself, when was the investment, planning etc made?

If Jonathan ever fought a war even if it is 6 months, he will hide behind it and sleep for 10yrs without raising a finger.

What distraction is bigger than that, but they never complained and still did their jobs, that was the resilience of our heroes past not these chop chop politicians, do you know that our military heads of state live everyday like there will not be a tomorow?
you may be in office today the next day is a coup and you are out, yet even in that fear still did their jobs.

If you face the truth, GEJ is a bunch of excuses, Nigerians have seen worse.

As much as your account of the biafran war might be more accurate, your swift impulse to lecture Evarn numbed your sensitivity to what he was saying. His emphasis was on the Nigerian army. He never sided or implied Ojukwu was a hero.

I would love to see more detailed account of military history and standing from you just like in your last post, that is, hoping your penchant for putting a patriotic Nigerian down doesn't become the overwhelming compulsion.
I don't really care about what he is saying, I am of the opinion that twisting the history of Nigeria for any reason is dangerous and not acceptable.
He can joke, play pranks etc with the southies but he shouldn't dare twist facts about our past, hope I am not asking for too much.
BTW, what is patriotic about someone who lies to another national about his country's history for faceless vain internet glory??

You guys call this nonsense you are doing here patriotism? now let me give you a clue, if you guys are who you said you are representing different African countries, you should consider yourselves as brothers in arms not continental enemies, from what we have seen here, there are a lot to learn from the southies and vice versa,

This should be an opportunity for the Nigerian Naval personnel here who have not "seen" a submarine on their shores to get information about it and hopefully convince themselves why they need it, that is the way to grow!!, The south Africans should be able to learn one or two things about Nigeria's coastal capabilities and how much we have transformed our army due to boko haram insurgence.

Over all, you guys are really painting a calligraphy of vanity, putting your continent at risk in the long run, why has egypt remained passive to the AU? but will rather be a force in the Arab league? it is simply because of distrust in regional cohesion caused by the nonsense you guys are doing here.

What is wrong with Nigeria being the West African police? South Africa, manning the Southern block? Egypt on the Northern block and Ethiopia/kenya on the eastern block?

Do you know what such military cohesion will do to the psyche of the likes of Al qaeda in the Islamic Mahreb, Boko haram et al if we project continental interest above national bickerings?

why is Europe so united forming tough alliances that project their interest better than any other continent in the world? Cant we learn from them.

Let me tell you guys more of the disadvantage of the nonsense you guys are doing here;

Boko haram has ravaged Nigeria for 6yrs today, do you guys care? Nigerians and your fellow brothers in arms have paid the supreme price to the tune of over 13,000, do you guys care?

To form a regional alliance of Nigeria's west african neighbors have been a tough call, why is it supposed to be so? an Alliance of Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon has broken down twice and Nigerians paid dearly for it, 2,000 lives at the fall of Baga alleged by Amnesty international is no child's play, how can you secure an alliance when you are enmeshed in a petty mindset like I read here.

The few weeks we managed to sustain the alliance, Boko haram has had it very rough this past weeks, can't you see? the future of Africa rests on cohesion for regional stability not bickerings over the internet.

Our west African neighbors are ravaged by Ebola, who came to their rescue? MSF (French), WHO, where are the likes of Nigeria and south Africa who are housing the 1st 10th African's wealthiest?

Ivory coast nearly tilted to the brink of a civil war, who helped them? France, where was their west African allies, ECOWAS and co? is this how it is supposed to be? Who protected Ghaddafi when the westerners took him from us? who came to Mali's rescue when Al queda nearly took half of their territory?

We should be ashamed of this petty mindset we have as Africans. We are losing a lot already with this nonsense you guys are doing here.

@jpphilips,i thought that we arrived at a mutual concensus?,there was no misinformation in anything i posted,i wasnt around during the civil war,but nevertheless,i recieved the undiluted account of events from sources who personally participated heavily in the war.
I wasnt hailing Ojukwu, neither did i aggrandize his insane lust for power, infact,i detest him for the act of cowardice he performed towards the end{though i respect his intelligence}.
Revolutionaries such as Adolf Hitler,Napoleon Bonaparte,Moussoulinni etc....fought and died for their cause, they didnt run away like wimpering dogs when they tasted defeat.
I dont understand the reason why you are being so unfairly antagonistic towards me,did i ever offend you?.
You spun a sobering tale about how ojukwu was a selfish coward with an oversized ego{a notion which i duly support},yet you failed to document the reason why he started the war in the first place,as much as Ojukwu was a power monger,he didnt just wake up one morning and decide to start a war.
Let me break it down where I had Issues with your post;

EVarn:
We crushed Republic of Biafra into smithereens,Biafra had the unholy support of france and other unscrupulous corroborators, yet we squeeze them hard until they became charred husks.
This is a Lie because France's help came towards the end of the conflict when Kwashiokor has secured Victory for Nigeria, however, I agree completely on the crushing Biafra part, I would love to read a History I was indirectly part of in blue tales of undiluted reality.

Dont forget that Colonel Odumegwu Ogukwu, the then leader of the Peoples Army of Biafra was a trained Nigerian Army general, and prior to his declared sucession,he was also governor of eastern nigeria under the supreme military council. He had manpower numbering over 30,000 before the war,and 100,000 during the climax of battle.he had a large cache of the nigerian armoury in his control.Yet,we won the war,and the rest is history.
This is another lie, Ojukwu never attained the rank of a General in the Nigerian army, the best he got was a colonel, if Ojukwu raised upto 30,000 men, he wouldn't have resorted to kidnapping to make up for his fighters, why do you think Niger deltans like Isaac Adaka boro was vehemently against Ojukwu's revolution?
To believe you pushed the number to 100,000 is most laughable, Nigeria with a population of 170m in 2015 has 138,000 soldiers, if you subtract the Boko haram casualties, that number will significantly drop to 95,000, then in 1967, what is the population of Nigeria to think that Ojukwu's eastern region, 1/4th of the federation by land mass and population will raise that outrageous number?
I also found the "LARGE CACHE OF WEAPONS" laughable, when next you meet an Igbo man aged 60 and above, sing this song to his hearing" that was our chanting slogan and morale booster for every war front.

"Ojukwu nye anyi egbe, nye anyi mma, na - hausa abatakwala Awka" it means; "Ojukwu give us dane/local gun, give us machete that the Nigerian forces have over run Awka (the present day capital of Anambra state and the seat of improvised weapons for Ojukwu's army and till date, we fondly called it "Egbe Awka"wink " with that song still playing in my head, how do I ratiocinate your "LARGE CACHE OF ARMS" claims?
very laughable indeed!!
Nigeria won the war no doubt but if you want to be honest, that victory was not as a result of a superior war strategy, never mind that Biafra was militarily disadvantaged with no organised Navy and a tiny air force, that victory of the Nigeria side is attributed to Awolowo's crude Blockade policy, Kwashiokor killed more Biafrans than the Nigerian bullet, if you dont know that much, then I will excuse your ignorance.

show me what the SANDF have achieved so far, aside from posing with swedish aircrafts and baseless paparazzi.
Another Nigerian who missed history classes, the highest rank Ojukwu attained before 1967 was the rank of colonel and a governor by political appointment, If he ever assumed a General status, it must have been self acclaimed not earned from the Nigerian army, he taught the likes of Murtala Mohammed and Adekunle (black scorpion) in the Ghana defence academy (whatever it is called now), same students of his championed the most fierce blow to Ojukwu's Biafra, that tells you how badly he implemented his board room strategies.

Dont forget to mention that same Ojukwu "ran away","absconded" and practically "abandoned" his own revolution, first of its kind in their history at the time, thanks to General Effiong who negotiated the truce that saved us in a war we were clearly losing but needs to be fueled by the selfish ego of one senseless individual. what is special about a proven coward to be mentioned in history?
The tale of cowardice is so boring to the ears.

I dont know whether you were born at the time but testimonies from survivors said they actually started the war with machete and pitch forks, there was just one military installation in the east and after the January 15 coup by the eastern officers, majority of the arms in that barracks was withdrawn and transferred to Kaduna, that paved the way for the retaliatory coup of July.
The Biafrans practically improvised most of the arms they used, in all fairness, real weaponry started trickling in towards the end of the war when the likes of Ivory coast and France came to their rescue.

It was no news that most Biafran soldiers fought 2 to 1 riffle at the onset of the conflict as a matter of undiluted fact, Calabar sector fell because Ojukwu at some point made a desperate attempt to sustain Enugu by withdrawing Sub machine guns from Calabar " we that are about to die salute you" hope it rings a bell.
Be very careful the level of misinformation you throw out here, your child may be reading and forming a clueless opinion with it.

Don't come on the Internet to showcase your ignorance. Buharis participation in the counter coup along with others like Murtala,Danjuma,Martin Adamu,Bako and others has been public knowledge for many many years. Even Buhari in an interview just last year confirmed that he was a young lieutenant posted to the Army transport corps in Lagos and was there when the first coup and subsequent counter coup took place although he did not elaborate on his involvement. Buhari even said in that interview that one of his duties was to arrange military transportation for Ironsi and his entourage. Even Buharis Wikipedia web page puts him as a participant in that bloody coup. The police account of the bloody counter coup in which Buhari and co killed many Eastern officers cab be read :
