iv4fb: @frankie9ce, I disagree totally with you about Reuben Abati. He was one guy that always hit government hard. If you were old enough and read his piece on Guardian, you'll understand that. We were always looking for his articles-he was objective and direct! He may have become an 'ass licker', he was not always like that.

About , she created a niche, her piece might be geared towards praising those folks, but she educate and teach us history in a positive way, aint u tired of all the negativity that abounds?

@, please remain 'unmovable' by all these talks and keep up your good work, just add a little more objectivity. You sometimes gotta talk about the bad sides too!
Nigerian youths are better off learning about the wives of people who have made genuine sacrifices for this nation, people whose blood and efforts gave us a sense of national pride.

The Abubakars are very far from that, it takes a stale mind to believe the crap abayamo is writing up there.

who are the heroes of the Nigerian civil war, people whose blood actualized the "one Nigeria" our founding fathers fought for?

who were the wives of heads of state who shielded Nigeria from the hegemony and economic terrorism of the IMF and world bank?

How many Nigerian youths know about TAIWO AKINKUMI?

How many Nigerians know the people in the front lines of disaster management in our country?

How many Nigerians know about the Civilian JTF who in recent times have put their lives on the line to extricate the borno people from the clutches of sanguinary terrorists?

The Nigerian who rescued our soldiers from the west side rebels in Liberia.

it is deceptive write ups like this that skews the minds of our leaders to pass national honors to riffraffs who don't deserve it.

next you write about obasanjo's house girl who was silent when her oga was looting us dry as a sign of humility. crap!!

There is no honor in what the Abubakars did to the Nigerian people, making a hero outta them insults the least moral fiber left of my sensibilities.

pheliciti: Much as I do not like to derail this thread, may I ask that you list the names of Nigeria's previous leaders? Except we are about to start a voyage in revisionism, Zik (one of the greatest Nigerians that ever lived, and who would have been one of the greatest heads of the Nigerian State) was never head of state or president.
Secondly, I plead that when we criticize write-ups, we should keep out the abuse as it hinders and derails intellectual discussion. Interestingly, the Late Tafawa Balewa, never put anybody out as 1st Lady. The usage in 's piece was only referential to state that Hajia Balewa was one of those that did not enjoy the public glare as wife of the Prime Minister; I suspect that same historic reference could be made to Mrs Flora Azikwe, were the late Dr. Azikwe PM or President.

Kind Regards and do enjoy the weekend all.
you cannot pass off your impotent opinion as intellectual. first, the question was directed to someone else not you. so, dont put it on me that you didnt pay enough school fees to learn who were the past heads of state of Nigeria.

DerideGull: Please, the wife or wives of a Prime Minister is/are not first lady/ladies of a country especially if the country has president and commander in chief. It is intellectually absurd for person with average intellect to inject silly facts into learning streams of undiscerning society.

You have committed the same blunder before now when you posted the pictures of previous Nigerian heads of states. Tafawa Balewa was the prime minister not head of state or commander in chief.

Abali2013: How many people really care what happens?
Why the Non-Challant attitude, towards Sickle Cell Disease?
I don't care how long it will take, but I have made up my mind to lend my voice to SickleCellAwareness campaign. I am not soliciting for funds, neither am I advertising. But I have made it my life's duty to educate people about SCD. Not only because am a sufferer, but because I am a Survivor.
Awareness is a form of campaign no doubt but i doubt how much results it produces. If not for the roman catholic church, many carriers still go ahead to marry themselves which i find very absurd.

the churches care about HIV but pay little or no attention to Sickle cell, Dr oni(not real name) has sickle cell kids, how do you explain that? a doctor? what other awareness does he need, well educated folks have sickle pro genies.

forgive me to say but i don't subscribe to your campaign, sickle cell organizations should lobby the National assembly to make it a felony for any parent/parents who has sickle cell progenies. This is man's inhumanity to Man and spouses are not ready to listen.

Having an SS child should carry the same sentence as willfully infecting someone with HIV because i see no difference.

my sickle cell campaign is simple, if you are SS, shoot your father in the Head, and there should be Amnesty for any child who adopts this noble medical Jihad grin grin

cman77: D reason y nig has struggled to score or perhaps put up a draw in d qualifiers is because keshi keeps invitin 'dead strikers' like ideye.d fact dat sm1 is a top scorer in his club doesn't translate smtimes dat u will do well in d natl team.4 example,u will rememba makinwa of palermo in italy who neva had an impressive perfrmance wif d SE.luck smtimes plays a role.ideye has bin tryd several tymns nd he is a bigtime flop.if we r to defeat spain(which is possible)we must do away wif dos ideye, babatunde, akpala.I hope oduamadi recovers soon, cos u don't have 5 goalscorin chances as a striker and miss all.
As a coach, if you were to choose between strikers at club performance level and some obscure name that has never scored a goal which will you choose?
ideye did very well at club level and it is commonsensical to give him a chance to replicate it at a National level, however, one can only hope that luck will smile on him in big games like these.
Keshi has done no wrong with his ideye's choice, i cant say for the other two clowns though.

ginas: NIGERIA VS URUGUAY GAME OVERALL ASSESSMENT.

The team is Really improving, atleast they seems to have added something to their game since Keshi took over:
1) perfecting the art of knocking the ball around and stopping the opposition from playing.
2) Learning to choke-up the middle and allow the full backs to overlap.
3) being very comfortable on the ball and overall team play.

LESSONS TO LEARN:

1) Learn to counter attack well.
2) Learn to quickly respond to opposition change of strategy
3) Effective use of set piece
4) Respect their opposition and Keep concentration 100 percent
5) The coach must have a plan B and C if A don't work.
6) This team needs atleast five above exceptional talent to dominate africa for a long time and pose serious competition to the best in the world.

Uruguay was not better but more experienced that is why the won.

The team is inexperience and unexposed to matches of such calibre. I seriously hope they learnt from this.

FINAL NOTE

There is no doubt the team has made tremedeous improvement and I hope this continues for a long time.
truth is; it is the strikers that Initiate counters not the coach,a fast paced striker will initiate a counter by default as soon as the opponent is dispossessed in his half.

what i think keshi is avoiding is a counter attack from the opposition in case our boys are dispossessed and his strategy is fair if i must say.
we can make our runs through the flanks and Ambrose overlap and perhaps Echiejile or so isn't bad. also, you must note that keshi positions players in the midfield who has the ability to make defense splitting passes (Mikel and Moses does it very well for eagles and recently ideye).

what is the point asking for a counter attack and leaving your back vulnerable to fast paced attackers (forlan, suarez and Cavani) when you can split the defense with a killer pass from your controlled midfield? same opportunity for the strikers to score (if you have one).

Spot kick is a natural talent, i doubt if one can be trained to do that, if you are lucky to put together a team where one person has the Ability, then your are good, if not you cant destabilize your team for a spot kick taker.

since the days of Okocha (who happens to be a lucky dube for spot kicks, grin) we haven't been that lucky anymore, even the so called big teams just manage with a few of them. our famous 94 squad hadn't a perfect one either, save for a few lucky ones.

Since Beckham and perhaps lucky lampard, England hadn't much, for over a decade, it was a Juninho and ronaldinho for a whole Brazilian team, rem. that it didn't stop scolari from dropping Dinho, when he dropped form.

most teams are like that, a 100capped pirlo does it so well for italy, whoelse? so at the exit of pirlo, no more for Italy, at least for now.
Most good teams in the world dont have spot kick takers except when they are lucky.
the truth is, there are a billion and one opportunities that can be created from skillful players, Spot kick is just a jara. i tell you what, if you have strikers that can bury any defense any day, you may not need good penalty takers.

If Enyeama cant arrange the defense nor position himself properly, i don't see why he cant be benched.
he seems like someone who talks too much, the first goal is not a mistake on his part but total incompetence. the second goal too, though i wasn't expecting him to make a save but if he had positioned properly, it would have forced forlan to make a cross, who knows, we may stand a chance from that point.
the angle was too tight for a shot on goal, Enyeama just forgot where the goal post ended, in a bid to beat a properly positioned Enyeama from that Angle, Forlan would have missed or forced to cross that ball.

Keshi has put together a near replica of the 94 defense and mid field, i was so impressed. kudos to baba keshi.

i only saw a fantastic defence line, a great midfield, a confused goal keeper and ojuelegba strikers.
keshi's face wasnt even helping matters.
imagine enyeama thanking forlan for a shot well struck, with teeth as wide as a dstv dish.
great runs from musa but what happend to his eyes?
he neither could see his team mates nor the goal post.
musa needs serious eye test. Mikel's defence splitting passes remains exquisite.

sorry to inform you that as we speak, US is producing 6mbbls of shale oil daily and has since cut down its 15% dependence on Nigeria's oil, the Obama administration is making huge investments to increase its shale oil production to 15mbbls by 2017.
the cost of war with Nigeria will be better utilized to develop their oil production capacity.

solomon111: And you are giving them no credit at all.
Btw,No world power can attack Nigeria without starting WW3 in 30minutes.
Given our huge natural resources there's so much vested interests in Nigeria from most of the world powers.
No nation is indispensable, natural resources? gimme a break, do you need a list of countries with more natural resources than Nigeria who faced serious international sanctions? some whose allies have even turned their back on them due to "other interests"?
BTW, why did Nigeria and its Natural resources face international sanctions during the Abacha regime?

The reason no Nation will attack Nigeria with impunity has nothing to do with natural resources but a UN security council resolution on sovereignty of nations, that magnanimity is equally extended to Tahiti,Haiti and other nations as tiny as ojuelegba.
