Atiku reacts to Mambilla attack, calls for justice

Former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the attack on Mambilla, which left many dead on Sunday.

About 20 persons were reported killed and 300 cows stolen, following a fresh outbreak of ethnic violence on the Mambilla Plateau in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, on Sunday.

The former Vice president expressed sadness at the increasing rate of violence in Mambilla

He urged security agencies to ensure that culprits were brought to book in order to avoid a repeat of the same incident.

“It breaks my heart that the Mambilla has lost its serenity to violence and avoidable deaths.

“It is important that we bring culprits to justice else others will be emboldened to thread the same path as the resurgence of violence in Mambilla has shown,” Atiku tweeted.

Not a single sentence in this is wrong IMO. It’s like a simple rule of thumb, an insurgency (any type) cannot exist in an area without being embraced by the local people ! Why is the North West (sokoto and it’s surrounding environs) relatively safe today ? Because the elites came together and rejected this ideology from the start!

We don’t need to fool ourselves here
North west was as traumatized as the NE, the only difference is that we allowed the NE to be consolidated as their headquarters while the later was battled away from them, another point you must note is that terror likes ungoverned areas where there is little or no Government and administrative presence. The NE has it more than the NW.

BHTs have always enjoyed tacit supports from its hundred of thousands of sympathizers in the North which is why any Imam that publicly criticize the group, for its atrocities, is automatically signing his death warrant. Even if BHTs don't necessarily have foot soldiers in that locale.

Take Kano and Kaduna for instance, dozens of Imams have been assassinated by the group's sympathizers. We shouldn't forget the Kano 2014 bombing that saw well over 200 souls lost just because Sanusi Lamido spoke against BHTs.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/bomb-blasts-kill-200-kano-central-mosque/

I can recall the premature explosion that occurred in a built-up area in Kaduna several years ago. The bomb maker, his toddler, wife and some family members died when karma struck them in their home(that doubles as IED making factory. The bomb maker was just a civilian who suddenly decided that he would be making bombs for BHTs. He did succeed in killing hundred of people.

There are homes you will see in the North with glaring anti-west graffitis written on their walls, typical of terrorist organizations. The North fostered and nurtured Boko Haram, especially the fundamentalist Muslim population in Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto and Borno. And the only reason they are screaming blue murder now is because BHTs focuses most of its attacks on Muslims population.

Walahi, if it had been Christian and other minority groups bearing the brunt of this psychoes alone, they wouldn't have given enough hoot.
In every environment where terrorism is rife, there are victims of their radicalization process, we always wear myopic lenses to analyse complex issues, radicalization doesn't necessarily mean they must be muslims to key into their ideology, how about the British, french
girls that travelled to Syria just to fvck ISIS fighters, were they all muslims?

I agree it is easier to radicalize muslims than Christians but you forgot that it is equally difficult to radicalize educated muslims.
The Northern muslims in Nigeria were just ignorant of global terrorism by thinking the insurgence came for their generational christian rivals, if you still recall their initial targets, that I believe was just a gimmick by BHT to gain grounds, hide amongst the population for a while to gain acceptance.

Today, they know better, most of the Sheikhs that Blew BHT trumpet few years ago are all dead, from the same BHT, so they have come to the sad realization this is not a religious game, in fact, it might interest you to note that terrorism will likely fester faster where you have divisions and ideological factions, a typical example is Saudi Arabia and Iran, these countries have a homogenous majority muslim population, they are hardly hit by terror because there is little or no crack for terror to feed on, are they not muslims?
Cracks, discontentment, tribal differences, etc in your society will breed terror faster than religion.

You claimed BHT gained grounds in the NE because of islam, but you quickly forgot that the civilian JTF whose help we solicited to fight them were equally muslims, how do you ratiocinate that?
Lastly, look at what Al qaeda from the Sahel is doing to us with Fulani herdsmen, there are irrefutable evidence that Al Qaeda elements are disguising as herdsmen to unleash terror in Nigeria, instead of fighting the terror amongst the herdsmen, we are isolating and condemning our local fulanis in Nigeria, those we have lived peacefully with for decades, that is how terror propagate. That is precisely what Al qaeda wants us to do and we are just playing into their hands.

once we start fighting our fulani population, al Qaeda will walk through the dichotomy and propagate, so if we don't embrace our fulani population, we run the risk of having another NE crisis in the NC. Mark my words!!
If I see a terrorist, I blame his education first before religion.

oga I understand you well, I am speaking about some of these ROOT causes traceable to the early fifties before AQIM, MAJAO and others came to light. These are after shocks and more will still come in my own opinion. Don't mix the growth of terrorism in Nigeria to the Sahel. Unlike the Sahel where clamour for independence turned insurgency by indigenes seeking for a state of AZAWAD, the Libyan and Sudanese connection giving birth to AQIM, Ours have steamed from roots involving religious intolerance, perpetually encouraged indoctrination allowed to continue due to ignorance and poverty.
These were all cracks on the walls which finally lead to the collapse of what we sadly have now. I could go on and on but there is a limit to what I can say before I end up somewhere nasty.
Countries where everything you mentioned up there aren't obvious still experience terrorism, how do you explain it?

BREAKING NEWS!!

New evidence showing that the Nigerian military was informed that Boko Haram was planning mass abductions in Yobe State has emerged. A document obtained by SaharaReporters indicated that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) was notified by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) of plans by Boko Haram militants to carry out a massive attack in February.

The confidential memo dated February 6, 2018, and titled "Plans By BHT To Carry Out Massive Attacks In Maiduguri And Damaturu" was signed by Brigadier-General EA Adeniyi, he stated that intelligence gathered by the agency indicated that the most likely targets of large-scale Boko Haram attack will be the University of Maiduguri, mosques, markets, and parks in Borno. To carry out the attacks, the document further revealed that Boko Haram had hired about 17 suicide bombers, who were ready to strike as well as carry out abductions.

Specifically, the document stated and warned of mass abductions:"Similarly, mass abductions are ongoing purportedly to be used as Personnel-Borne Improvised Explosive Device"

This is in addition to Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device, using especially Golf cars with registration numbers from states of the North," the document stated.

To forestall a realisation of the terrorists' plans, the DIA said it was directed to request the DHQ to instruct troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to maintain high alert and vigilance. It also instructed that troops at checkpoints should pay special attention to Golf cars, but approach such with caution.

The military, however, disregarded the instruction to stay on high alert, as troops were withdrawn from Dapchi in Yobe state, where over 100 school girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram from an all-girls high school on Monday 19th of February 2018, the girls were later taken to Kanama on the Nigerian-Nigerien border according to sources.

Deputy Director (Public Relations), the Theatre Command, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement, said the military should not be blamed for the latest round of horror, as troops handed a peaceful and calm situation to the Police. however, the Nigerian police has denied the claim, stating there was not proper handing-over done to their men.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sumonu Abdulmaliki, said the military never handed over Dapchi town to the Police.

In a personally signed statement, Mr. Abdulmaliki explained that Yobe State remains a security emergency being monitored by security agencies.

In as much as I praise the Nigerian military for their action and grounds towards ISWAP and BHT, it's no doubt that they really flopped. An abduction will either lead to a SWAP or ransom except you're willing to make them a statistics of collateral damages.

Look, I am not saying Federal Police should be abolished, even though they have failed time and again and are not performing their core mandate. State Police will exist under the jurisdiction/oversight of F.P.

Ironically, the states that are viciously objecting to S.P are those that are always prone to barbaric inter-ethnic violence. They are the one that are quick to slaughter other countrymen just because of some stupid Charlie Hebdo in France or Denmark's Miss World. I am sure you still remember those incidents.
And the likelihood of the civil war happening would have been greatly reduced if they didn't turn the North to slaughterhouse of other countrymen!

They said they are scared of Politicians turning State Police Officers to their personal thugs, so we should be stuck with this messed up system. Can you sincerely tell me that the Federal Police we have now are not personal thugs of politicians and civilians alike? Just this afternoon, I heard a story of how a wealthy "Madam" locked a 17yrs old teenager in police cells just for purportedly stealing less than 50cent worth of yoghurt. The boy was tortured right in front of his helpless and uneducated parents. (Me, I think they are just plain stupid cos I will never watch some overzealous buffoons treat my children bad.)

Obviously, there are States that are overripe for State Police in Nigeria, FG should use them as a pilot scheme to test run the proposal.

If it's State Police and True Federalism that will break Nigeria apart, then it simply means we should never have been together in the first place.
You are like an employee who was asked to proffer a solution to a problem, on the day of your presentation, you address the board thus; ''Ladies and gentlemen, the solution to the problem is; there shouldn't be a problem in the first place. but if I must do this, i have a solution that will create a bigger problem"

You may read this again, this time very slowly......

it is one thing to identify a problem, it is another to have the ability to solve it, what you just said is not a solution to the problem you earlier mentioned. State police was instrumental to the civil war you fought between 1967-1970, going back to a problem solved over 40yrs ago is proof you have very little knowledge about how we got here.
I have noticed lately that young people in our country who missed history lessons jump to the media to attack the structure of governance with no knowledge how and why it is the way it is at the behest of selfish politicians who careless about their interest.

Borno state vigilante/police may help you protect Dapchi girls in Yobe state today, when yorubas or igbos disagree on a subject, you will realize that localized force will easily take sides in every conflict, that is why the Nigerian security apparatus is decentralized, first proposed during the Aburi conference, carried over to the 1979 constitution till date, a brilliant panacea to our ethnic charged society, Americans don't have ethnicity problems therefore they can afford NYPD unlike Nigeria like most dolts advocate.

While the Lazy governors are planning how to use those state structures as legal thugs to rig elections, civilians like you give a voice to their !diocy founded on poor understanding or outright chicanery to manipulate the structure that favors them. While singing their opinion to us, it is smarter to ask what is in it for you?
If there is a misunderstanding between Igbos and Yorubas in Lagos state, on whose side will the Yoruba dominated state police be?
in a decentralized system, a Northern commander is deployed to maintain peace and order. This structure is the only fabric that has glued together our fragile ethnic charged society, in pre 66, when we ran the structure you proposed, we ended up in a civil war, why will you want to replay such tragedy out of ignorance? Im sure you think the COAS is a Borno man by accident right? well, the current structure gives us the opportunity to send a man from Borno who is hard hit by BHT tragedy.
In countries that operate state policing there is a structure called inter agency cohesion, that is practically non existent in Nigeria but citizens like you dont ever see the big picture but the myopic picture presented by selfish politicians fighting for their economic future.
State police will Destroy Nigeria!

So, when smart and progressive folks suggested State and Community policing, some dotards were drooling "state folice my foot." Well where were the military and Federal police when the state and the community needed them mosthuh
