Politics › Re: Obasanjo- The Man Who Saw Tomorrow. by jpphilips(m): 5:13pm On Feb 08, 2017
mekaboy:
Some say Obasanjo was the problem PDP had, Some said the party collapsed after he left.

The main reason Jonathan lost the election and why Obasanjo allowed the party to sink was this.

Yaradua died and based on the parties agreement of zonning it was the turn of the north to do 8 years in office. Unfortunately Yaradua could not complete his 8 years and the constitution made provision for the VP to take over. There is nothing the north could do about it.

So I believe the agreement was for Gej to do 1 tenure and hand over to the north to complete the north's 4 years.

Jonathan decided to violate that agreement and do eight years, either because he wanted to see the result of the seeds he planted in the economy or for personal interest.

Obasanjo would not stay and watch Gej violate this agreement which could cause bloodshed, even though he would not deny the fact that he was OK with Gejs leadership of the country. But he had to put party interest of zonning above national interest , or put national interest above selfish interest as it would have led to a bloody war.

Even Gej knew that the battle line was drawn and had to call and congratulate Buhari even before the results were concluded. This is because both the North and the south were ready for the clash, but the blood would be on his head for violating the agreement. So since he violated and lost, no need to shed blood. I respect Gej for that decision.

However, there was one thing both Gej and Obasanjo were worried about. What would happen to our economy if Buhari took over. That is why he said Nigerians will celebrate him when he left office.

So what was the pilar that gave both Gej and Obasanjo confidence in Gejs administration?

Ngozi Okonjo iweala. She was the reason and the force behind most achievements in Obasanjo's regime and Gejs.

Obasanjo would not be a part of a PDP that violates it's agreement with the north, but on the other hand he was worried about what will become of Nigerian economy in the hands of Buhari.

Obasanjo was caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. If he supported Gej and he won, a lot of blood will be shed , but if he supported Buhari, the economy will collapse and there will be untold hardship. So he left PDP and would not join APC.

It was better for him that Nigerians suffer hunger and economic hardship than die from post election violence.

Obasanjo said that Buhari was not a good civilian administrator. That is why he wanted Okonjo iweala as Vice president, as his condition to support Buhari's presidency when he choose pastor bakare as vice.

Finally, Buhari is now president, and Obasanjo's other fear, which was our economy is happening before our eyes.

4 million jobs lost, inflation 17% , stagnation etc. He saw all this, but his hands were tied. In less than 2 years, we have to sell our assets to fund 2016 budget. what will we sell to fund 2017 and 2018?

Some blame the oil, but Obasanjo knew that it is not about oil, but Buhari's ability to manage our economy. He would only support Buhari's candidate if he was sure there will be an Okonjo Iweala as vice to prevent the economic disaster we face today.
The bold part is Supersonic ignorance!!

What caught my attention is the paragraph where you said you have not exhausted your meter credit in months and you wonder how the discos manage to survive.

My dear, I can tell you for free that the discos survive on Estimated Bills. That is the reason they (Discos) especially Ikeja Disco, do not want to reduce the number of people on Estimated bills by providing prepaid meters. When they can make the majority of Nigerians pay for darkness, why would they want to buy energy from Gencos to supply to you. All Nigerians on Estimated Bills must reject this MENACE by saying enough is enough!!!
There you have it, we subsidize those on prepaid meters!!

Yes.

What revenue do you think the 774 LGAs, 36 states and federal government share monthly in Abuja from the Federation Account? Groundnut oil, palm oil or cocoa?
Ask yourself also why Buhari said he would "stabilise the price of oil" during his campaign?

Centralising Electricity called Central Power Grid is the major problem of power generation, transmission and distribution in Nigeria and until the whole Power System is decentralised, the problem will continue regardless of whoever is the Minister of Power or the amount of money spent to improve the system!
Yes we agree, where will you get the money to balkanize TCN? was the TCN not concessioned? why is the concessionaire not investing? those are the real questions.
Politics › Re: Clueless Investors Bought Over Nigeria’s Power Sector – Saraki by jpphilips(m):
ofwest47:
The problem of the power sector transcend the thinking of many commentators on the issue on hand. The long period of military administration in the country was the major cause of the situation we find our selves today in the country. All the then military head of states had no vision as to the need for improved power supply for the future need.
Gowon a former military head of state because of lack of vision for future need said during the oil boom era said in quote " Money is not our problem but how to spend it" and that was when Kainji Dam which plan was started in 1955 by the colonial master to generate 1200 MW and true to form the then political administration of Tawa Balewa was following the original plan until Gowon took over and by 1969 was only able to do 4 Units @ 80 MW per unit. totalling 320 MW instead of 12 Units @ 100 MW per unit as designed by the colonial masters and just about that time Ghana was able to complete Akosombo 1000 MW dam.
Similarly Babangida even did worse by relegating the power sector to category C above Nigerian ports system and that was the era of FORM "M"form M is all just you need to import anything from fly covered meat to tokunboh pants and you can also use form M to fake any form of exportation. The CBN which came under category A was used as capital flight by he Babangida and his cohorts. According to him NEPA and Radio Nigeria on category C are cash generating establishment and can take care of themselves. A strike protest by NEPA in1992 led to the "11jailed NEPA men" when he sentenced 11NEPA Union members to life jail for treason for going on strike.
Sanni Abbacha did similar thing when he was approached over the dwindling Power situation in the country hear him Abbacha , " Quariam no be light be this you are all thieves get away" pointing to a point of light in his office. It will be recalled then that Abuja was never to be load shed irrespective of the amount of load available in the system it was an order not to be flouted then and by 1999 the total load available in the system was less than 1000 MW and between 1999 till date we have not been able to achieve much due to the high level of corruption in the system be it private or non private operators.
People were saying we were not able to move forward because the present minister of power Babatunde Fashola was a lawyer who had no knowledge of electricity, forgetting that the last administration of Good luck Jonathan had two professors of electrical engineering even one of them was a professor of robotic engineering as power ministers one after the other what did they achieve ? Recall in the first republic Mataima Sule was the minister of mines and power he was never an engineer but had the desire to achieve and he really did well before the vision less military administrations took over.
All that is required in this situation is the availability of fund and the desire to perform without involving in corrupt practices. No more no less.
Obasanjo's NIPP birth over 13 power plants, that was the highest investment we have ever witnessed in power. The truth is that we don't need to make any power investments, the investors are supposed to do that but when a DISCO can not replace a transformer on your street, then the DISCO has lost it, that is what Saraki is talking about.
Speaking of Robotics prof who came to help us, his name is Barth Nnaji, he knew his onions and his competence was never in doubt, it was he who reasoned that balkanising the sector was the way forward, he did that successfully, that is why you can mention DISCOS, GENCOS and TCN, during the NEPA & PHCN era there was nothing like that it was his idea, brain child and ingenuity.

The moment it was time to privatize the setup was where the nepotism and selfish considerations crept in. Jonathan told us that Nnaji was removed because of conflict of interest, tell me, a Man who by himself built Alaoji power plant, running it perfectly, generating 114MW all by himself, he was the only Nigerian who built a private power plant (IPP) from scratch, how can Jonathan not allow a man with such pedigree to compete rather he preferred EEDC, a conglomerate of shops that have no clue the difference between +ve and -ve to bid, the man left with his integrity intact.
investigate the quality of companies he invited and tell me how we ended up with economic wastes. The man had a great plan with sound vision, if not for Jonathan's corruption, Prof Nnaji would have solved our power challenge. I wish he will consider working for this government again.

By Jonathan's standard, a man who has generated 114MW by himself was not qualified to bid but Emeka offor who has not seen a cable in his life was allowed to buy the whole SE DISCOS and you think God will not punish Jonathan? Where have you heard that a company will bid to buy an asset, when it defaults, the BPE restructures their payment plan, who does that? that was how our power assets were sold, knowing any sane government will not allow that, they tied a huge indemnity on the contract, in the end even a sincere government can not do anything, Jonathan's incompetence handed us darkness for life!!

Dumb Jonathan sold Nigerian power assets to traders.
Complete local, parochial idiot.wiyjout strategic ability.
Yet people continue to tell lies crediting him with qualities the guy has not even heard of not to talk of possessing. At least in Obj time, privatization was done with some technical depth and process audited by credible international Consultants.

The FG may need to revoke these ownerships even if they are going to be costly. Alternatively, arm twist them to go down into technical partnerships with utility companies overseas.
Your last paragraph is the problem, because they knew what they did, they tied a huge indemnity around the contract, Fashola will want to cancel it but the indemnity will ruin the credibility of this administration. Jonathan has made this government a sitting duck while Nigerians languish in darkness, in the end, one lout who just left darkness will call him a hero.
Same thing with the Amnesty package, no consideration for low crude price and production cut, Jonathan will never escape the wrath of God!!

Interesting.

While I do not agree with what the original poster wrote, I want to take you up on some of the issues you wrote.

Osibanjo is the brain behind the current reformed criminal Justice system of Nigeria today...what has this led to? What reform?
When has it become wisdom to disagree with what you don't know?

single handedly led Lagos to victory in several legal battles against the FG...besides the case of the Lagos State Govt creating additional LGA which they later had to convert to LCDA`s after the Supreme Court verdict, what other cases are you refering to?
The matter you just mentioned had how many cases to it?
On the contrary, I believe he will perform creditably.

1. 'Career politicians' are what has gotten us to this state. I am not sure that more of them is the solution. The only requirement we need in a president is the ability and sincerity to hire the right people for the right positions.
Politicians are all talks no action, Donald Trump has proved it, in one week, he has fulfilled 90% of his campaign promises, the only major one left is the US debt, every other that requires a presidential fiat is done and dusted (obama care, NPP, NAFTA, common core all dusted), meanwhile his predecessor Obama has not closed Gitmo after 8yrs. Anybody trusting his future on career politicians is as dumb as the OP!!

3. The North did nothing to frustrate GEJ. His close associates caused all the harm, and they were mainly non-Northerners. He was lied to and deceived throughout his rule, trusting people almost always are.
That misconception can only come from an unintelligent person like the OP, how did the north frustrate Jonathan? Boko haram arrived and so what? it was his job to deal with them decisively so what is the OP talking about? Did ISIS not arrive Iraq and Syria did their presidents complain of frustration? Did isis not attempt to enter Turkey before Erdogan showed them the difference between table salt and gunpowder? Jonathan was as unintelligent as the OP reason they reason alike, jonathan's NSA fell from a helicopter after telling Nigerians the truth about BH, he hired another that goes to the CBN to sign off arms funds for campaign purposes at his behest of course. Yet an unitelligent OP believes Jonathan doesn't know what he is doing.

REASONS
- Osibanjo is not a career politician and neither is he so smart like Idiagbon to manage the economy of a big country like Nigeria. Remember, academic qualification/prowess is different from Political power. After all, there are so many Professors in the Senate who have never sponsored nor supported any motion in the Senate.
Osibanjo is the brain behind the current reformed criminal Justice system of Nigeria today, while he headed our economic team without success, he has no power to hire or fire any member of that team including the waste called Emefiele, as Attorney General of Lagos state, he single handedly led Lagos to victory in several legal battles against the FG, saying he isn't smart is puerile and an abuse of your freedom of speech.
It is only an unintelligent person will pass a judgement of opinion with little or no information.
On the other childish issues you raised, my advise to you is this; "Grow up" kids have no business with national discourse.

The BPE under Osibanjo recently queried Fashola's procurement strategies another Tinubu's boy by your unintelligent logic, like I said earlier, your opinion is not fit for national discourse, you may stick to cartoons if you must air it.

He promised to provide job to 7000, who are interested in Truck Officer ownership /Entrepreneurship scheme, which advertised in almost Nigeria dailies in some years ago, Aliko Dangote Defraud Nigeria graduates with job scam and uses police to force 800 staff to collect sack letters. It however seems the rich can’t stay rich for too long in the
midst of Nigeria’s economic recession as Africa’s richest
man, Aliko Dangote reportedly sacked 800 graduate workers employed last year under Truck entrepreneurship scheme.
Affected Truck/Fleet officers were forced out of the company’s premises with the management using anti-riot policemen, forcing them to collect their termination letters and also handover company property in their possession. Mr. Aliko Dangote scam, is people and rubbish tomorrow's leaders of this wonderful nation, with job he promised to provide as stated in the advertisement placed in Nigeria dailies.
The management of Dangote Cement Transport breached the contract agreement between both parties. We the affected graduates is hereby calling on NANS, honourable Speaker in person of Senator Bukola Saraki and the entire house of assembly, all the human activitist, Barr. Femi Falana, et al, should come to our rescue. The management lies against, to us,during the course of our staying in the company we were under paid, with rigorous labour in that hazardous environment. We
were humiliated and treated like dogs. “It was very unfortunate the way the management treated
like dogs or even worse than dogs. Many of us had
resumed work on Monday, February 6, 2017, only to meet fully armed mobile policemen all over the place.
While still wondering what was going on, were told that we have been sacked and the policemen forced us to collect the sack letters and hand over company properties before they forced us to leave. We were indicted of stealing, and so many things, all these are flimsy excuses, Aliko Dangote should search for thieves and vandalizers among the senior staffs of Dantrans. Is because the so called Truck Officer/fleet officers, we're exposing there ridiculous, uncouth, malicious theft and diversion of company consignments, that prompt this hatred against the innocent fleet officers. Fleet officers have their proof to show case if the need be. Some of the fleet managers, Drivers supervisors, and chief drivers were not excluded. Though I am not saying there's no unscrupulous element among the fleet officers, one of which is Mr Isaac...... Who cooperated with driver to sell tyres, notwithstanding that one does not warrant sacking of others who are innocent. Aliko Dangote should set up a panel to review the issue that warrant massive sacking of the Truck /fleet officers and the Security personnel should not on they said if Aliko Dangote knows that he doesn't scammed Nigeria youth.
With this grammar, dont refer to yourself as a graduate but a truck driver, second, you should be grateful that Dangote managed to hire this quality of "graduate", third, Dangote said that you guys stole his tyres to some reasonable extent you agreed with him, so why are you disturbing Nairaland?

But am looking at instrumentation or welding embarassed

Pls someone should help me out, don't know much about certifications.

Cc: 9ijaMan, jpphilips ...
As a chemical engineer, you are a process engineer, all your certifications must target process completion.
I will recommend the following for you;

# Engineering design application

# Mud engineering certification.

#Quality implementation certification ( NACE, ASNT, ISO, API , CWI, ASME etc)
# Integrity assessment and corrosion monitoring.

# Instrumentation is good but I will employ an electrical major with instrumentation before a chemical guy with it. It is not a standard procedure but just a matter of preference.

If you decide to stick to oil companies then the following will help;

# Production and test separation systems

# Oil export systems operations

# Chemical treatment

# crude oil storage, oil stabilization, pigging, oil fiscal metering.

If you prefer gas then these certifications may help;

# Two phase separation

# Gas sweetening, Gas compression and dehydration systems, Gas lift systems.

# water oil and Gas sampling analysis.

You can combine all of these individual certifications under

# Oil field surface facilities operations, it has an introductory and advanced, whichever you can afford.

If you watch closely, they are basically production operations, since service companies are employed to assist them in most operations, for sure one of these must land you in a servicing company.
