CrimeForceful Covenant And Oath In Unijos... by Jtownonline(op): 1:08pm On Sep 19, 2016
I wanted to write this article way back during my undergraduate days but I couldn't because I lacked the proper channel to tell the world how I feel about the present state of Student Unionism in Nigerian universities especially my dear Unijos. I guess another thing that deterred me from writing long ago was the fear of being expelled from the University. Now I guess it is time for me to say something about unionism in Unijos and how the former VC Hayward Babale Mafuyai and his cohorts killed student uninionism in Unijos. I promise not to make this lengthy.

I must commend the leadership of the past SUG President of Unijos Mr Abel (AKA Abel is able) for reviving the Spirit of Aluta in Unijos which was in the state of comatose before he assumed office in the 2013/2014 academic session. The newly elected SUG president met a dead student union body but worked very hard to revive student unionism in Unijos. In November of 2014, the SUG President called for a meeting of faculty and departmental Presidents in Unijos. This meeting was meant for student representative to point out areas that the School authority needs to look into for better welfare of the students. Top on the list was the reduction of tuition fee. Students were made to pay developmental levy of ten thousand naira (10,000). The problem then was not in paying the developmental levy but in the fact that the University was still in its state of of Infrastructural decay even after students have being paying developmental levy for the past 5 years. With this and other issues in mind, the SUG decided to table in their request which represented what they students want. The VCs as usual refuse to meet with the student body; not only did he refuse to meet with the student body he also called the student body "rascals".
After this unfortunate and senseless comment by the Vc, the student body was left with no other option but to stage a peaceful protest. Before I forget to mention that I was in my final year then and I know what it entails if the University should be shutdown due to the protest. At that time, I wasn't thinking of myself but my family and friends that will be coming into Unijos in years to come. All I wanted at that time was for them to meet a better Unijos.
The protest which was suppose to be a one day thing got to reach the next day due to the insensitivity ego of the VC to come and the address the students who came out en mass to fight for better welfare of students. On the second day, students came out en mass for another round of protest. Mind you the second day of the protest was peaceful not until some cowards dressed in military uniforms shot some students at the gate of Naraguta hostel. With this development, students started breaking windows in the school premises.
On the second day of the protest, the school was shutdown and students were forced out of their hostels and the military took over the school premises. Unijos was shutdown for about 3 months. During that period, a disciplinary pannel was set up to look for scapegoats to punish.
When academic activities finally resumed, students were told to pay twelve thousand for damages incurred during the protest. Mind you the SUG excos have been suspended/dissolved and nobody will stand in for they students.
Now these sets of political and academic thugs dressed in the regalia of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by its President and Senate President who happens to be a student of Unijos in the Person of Mr Royce Ochai. Permit me for not including the accolade "comrade" to his name because at that time he was not a friend to Unijos students. This thugs were suppose to fight for Unijos students but rather they went to dialogue with the school administration with the sole aim of gaining from this unfair situation Unijos students found themselves. After the said "dialogue" NANS agreed students should pay the sum of six thousand naira and to take forceful covenant of good conduct. It was rumoured that NANS executive went home with good packages.
Not only were students forced to pay surcharges of #6,000 which I considered as uncalled-for, we were also forced to take oath of good conduct. This act alone has forever chained Student Unionism in Unijos. With this oath, nobody dares to protest any eventual increment of tuition fee by the school authority . I am not wrong to say that STUDENT UNIONISM IS DEAD IN UNIJOS.
Finally, Student Unionism in Nigeria has fallen from its pinnacle of intellectual doggedness and lost it activist steam and therefore has become a mere appendage of ruling political parties and a tool in the hands of corrupt politicians and VCs of Nigerian Universities.
THERE IS NOTHING GREAT ABOUT NIGERIAN STUDENTS.

PoliticsNeed For A Cabinet Shake-up In Nigeria. by Jtownonline(op): 3:42pm On Sep 15, 2016
THE economic meltdown current being experienced in the country has occupied public discourse from all the states of the federation lately. Recently, Senator Dino Melaye, the Senate Committee Chairman on Federal Capital Territory called on President Muhammadu Buhari to carry out a minor cabinet shake-up to remove those he described as not performing well. Senator Melaye mentioned the names of the cabinet members which included: Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Adeosun – Minister of Finance, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma –Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, and Mr. Godwin Emiefele – Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Senator specifically pointed out that the Minister of Finance; Dr. Kemi Adeosun has demonstrated gross incompetence in the handling of the nation’s economy. He emphasized that she has not fashioned out economic policies that would help to take the country out of the economic recession which has lingered for so long.
On the part of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma, he said with due respect that he (Udoma) is a distinguished and an accomplished lawyer with integrity. But being that he is not an economist, he lacks the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to manage such a very critical and important ministry.
Similarly, Senator Melaye criticized the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emiefele for initiating and implementing policies that have only helped to slow-down and negate the effort of the current administration to improve the well-being of Nigerians and take her out of the recession. He pointed to the fact that the Emiefele was not prudent in handling the disbursement of the money meant for the purchase of arms during the last administration of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (now tagged as the Dasuki-gate).
Take it or leave it, Senator Melaye’s call for the heads of these ministers and the governor of the Central bank is not only appropriate but timely. For instance, the Minister of Finance, during the second quarter of this year, assured Nigerians that as soon as the implementation of the 2016 budget begins, the social safety net embedded in the budget will help to cushion the effects of the meltdown and will systematically stimulate and enhance the revival of the ailing economy. Again, by the time money for capital projects is injected into the economy, it will create more jobs and reduce unemployment especially among youths.
The passage of the budget into law is four months old now but instead of the economy to improve, we have seen it deteriorating by the day. In fact, the economy is currently in recession, the worst ever, the last of which was since the past thirty three years.
The recent statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicates that ....... READ MORE..http://jtownonline..com.ng/2016/09/need-for-cabinet-shake-up-in-nigeria.html#more

EducationAlarming Rate Of Examination Question Papers Leakage In Unijos.. by Jtownonline(op): 10:39pm On Sep 14, 2016
I am a student of University of Jos and it pains me that I have to write this piece. Unijos was one time the best university in Nigeria and among the first twenty in Africa. So the question now is what went wrong? what is the university authority not getting right?. Sometimes I seat with consternation and ask myself many question which I have failed to find answers to.

Before gaining admission into the University, I thought examination question papers leakage is only synonymous to WAEC and NECO but to my greatest surprise this shameful act has rear its ugly head in my dear University of Jos.
The first time I came across a leaked question paper was in my 200 level and it was a course in Psychology department of the University. At first I said to the students that brought the question to the Naraguta Hostel of the university that the question paper is fake and they should better go and study their books to avoid carrying over the course which is a 4 credit load course. During the exams, it happened to be the same question with what they students had before the exams. To be sincere with you guys I was not happy with myself for not studying the question paper. This was the only one I saw only God knows how many questions papers leaked during that session's examination.
Now the most useless department in the University is the Department of General Studies (GST). Examination question papers from this department have been leaked for 2 consecutive session. These courses include GST 101, 102, 103, 104, 222 223. The University authority should do something before this ugly situation gets out of hand.
I love my Unijos..... GREATEST JOSITE.
Hopefully this sessions question papers will be leaked and I will post it for you guy to see.. SOURCE: http://jtownonline..com.ng/2016/09/alarming-rate-of-examination-question.html#more

Hello Jtownonline blog readers....

My name is Grace and I am a student of Unijos and I am presently in 100 level. I am not going to include my department and faculty for my safety. I have being hearing of rape cases but I never knew that one day I will be a victim of such inhumane act. Before this incident, I thought that most victims of rape are girls who dress indecently, Just as it is being portray in Nigeria home videos.
This is how it all happened.

Before gaining admission into the University, my elder sister warned me not to get close or too close to any male lecturer. I followed her advise and avoided anything that will make me close to my male lecturers. I rejected the post of a class rep, I reject any group leadership that will require me to report back to the lecturer. I had to do all these just to avoid issues even though I love assuming leadership positions.
On this faithful day that I was experiencing my monthly girls issues you know what I mean, I decided to take permission from my class rep that I can't make it to school on that faithful day. Late at night, I decided to call my class rep to find out what happened in school that day and he told me we had a test. I asked him if he took permission for me which he said yes but the lecturer demanded that I should see him in his office the next day. Now my greatest fear is staring at me with confidence.
After thinking over it, I decided not to see him regarding the test. During his next class, he announced to the class that anyone that missed his test last week should come and see him in his office and that he was going to mark the test over 30. Now I had no choice but to go to his office; I didn't go alone I begged my class rep to accompany me to his office which he agreed. EducationCategorise Of Professors In Unijos. by Jtownonline(op): 10:04am On Sep 13, 2016
Every University or tertiary institution in Nigeria has its own categorise of lecturers. In this series, I will be concentrating on Professors from the "Prestigious" University of Jos. Unijos a University that I believe is living on past glory. In early 2000, Unijos was among the bset University in Nigeria but it nowhere to be found in the recent University ranking. Let me go straight to our topic of discussion which is the categorise of professors in Unijos.

I will be concentrating on two department at the Naraguta Campus (Psite) of the University.
First on my list today is a professor from Sociology department of Unijos. I am not going to mention names but believe me after this you will get to know the professor that I am referring to. Funny enough I got to know this prof. even before I got admission into Unijos. I was seriously warned never to pick one of his course that was an elective for my department. This Prof. LOVES girls or should I say he lusts over girls. Let me tell you the type of girls the Prof. LOVES. He loves girls that have big BOOBS, girls that dress crazy and if you love showing yourself. There was a day that I was coming out from GST class with a friend and we happen to pass-by his office and from the window he called my friend who has Big BOOBS. Innocently my friend went to his office and he immediately grabbed and hugged her just to have a feel of her boobs.
