A South African woman was jailed after being accused of picking up a stranger in her car and forcing him to have sex with another woman in the back of the vehicle. Zumala Gift, a 28-year-old resident of King Williams Town, was charged with armed robbery and sexual assault stemming from the alleged crime, according to DNA Info. Gift was booked Sept. 5 at the Durban Police Department, where she is being held in lieu of R75,000 bail, according to police records. Assistant Attorney Amanda Amula told a Durban judge in court on Thursday that the alleged incident began around 5 a.m. on the morning of July 26 when Gift offered the victim a ride, reports DNA Info. After he got into the car, however, Gift pulled a gun and “demanded [he] get into the backseat of the car and have sex with [her] friend,” Amula said, according to the site. The man eventually escaped and — wearing only his shirt — flagged down a nearby cab, according to the Durban Sun-Times. The cab driver allowed the victim to email himself a picture of his alleged attackers’ license plate. The victim also later picked Gift out of a line-up, per the Sun-Times. Gift, a mother of two who works at a local Denny’s restaurant, has a previous misdemeanor conviction for prostitution, according to the Sun-Times. In a similar case in April, a Johannesburg man told police he was sexually assaulted by four women who offered to drive him home from a nightclub, according to the National Post. Female-on-male rape is “presumed to be greatly under-reported,” writes Salon. National studies report anywhere between 1.4 and 3 percent of men say they have been raped at some point, according to The Johannesburg Times. Another one in 21 men “had been forced to penetrate an acquaintance or a partner, usually a woman; had been the victim of an attempt to force penetration; or had been made to receive MouthAction,” according to The Times. Ok I still find it difficult to believe that a man can be rape by a woman. Sex can not work when or if a man does not achieve erection. So if a man does not achieve this erection how can he penetrate a woman?? What do I even know about sex. Please someone should educate us about this topic of men being victims of rape.. A Soldier fighting Boko Haram Borno State in the North Eastern part of Nigeria said the terrorist group usually send letters to the Nigeria Military before attacking their camps in Maiduguri. Last week, I attended a seminar on Social Media Entrepreneurship in Gombe State. After the seminar, I boarded a cab with a Military man to Abuja. On our way, one of the passenger brought up the issue of insurgency in Nigeria; how the present administration is fighting it and the progress so far. He was mute for a while before he decided to contribute to the topic of discussion. Before uttering a word, he said there are so many things that Nigerians are oblivious of regarding the fight against the Boko Haram terrorist group. He said he has been in Borno State since 2010 and he has experienced most of the attacks by the terrorist group. Boko haram before most of their attack send us letters before they attack our camps. I was shocked and I told him this should give you guys an edge over them, he looked at me and laughed and said how can we prepare that time when the weapons we had that time can not stand their sophisticated weapons? the only preparation is based on weapons we had . At one point the Federal government upgraded our weapons that was when were able to start recapturing placed captured by Boko Haram. Before Boko Haram killed one of the best commanders I have fought side by side with Lt. Col Abu Ali of blessed memories, Boko Haram sent a letter to us notifying us that they will attack us. We had our best preparation before the attack, we repelled them back. We defeated them that day but they took us unawares when a suicide bomber drove a car laded bombs into our camp. That was when we lost our Commander. All Nigerians can do is to pray for us because it will only take the grace of God to totally defeat Boko Haram or any terrorist group. HE ‘IS THE REASON’ IGODYE HAS A FLOURISHING CAREER IGoDye Abubakar adds that he oversaw the telecoms revolution in Nigeria, and he is the reason why young people like IGoDye have a great career — which leveraged on the power of telecommunications. “I oversaw the telecoms revolution, which is why young people like you, I Go Dye, now have a flourishing career. Under our tenure, we witnessed a large repatriation of Nigerians back to Nigeria, driven by the hope of the recovering economy. “It is sad that many of those young people are heading back abroad now — this is to show you that leadership matters.” ALSO READ...'OSINBAJO NOT TO BLAME FOR BUHARI’S FAILURE'---Atiku https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/12/osinbajo-not-to-blame-for-buharis.html I am the Reason Why Nigerian Celebrities have a flourishing Career.. When last did you spend or see one naira? Abubakar took a slight jab at the All Progressive Congress, who were reported by NAN in 2015, to have promised dramatic naira to dollar recovery. He said: “I Go Dye, I’m not a messiah. I do not promise Eldorado or $1 = N1. But I always ask to look at the economic progress we made under my leadership and what I am doing in private business and judge me by those. “People say I became rich in government. It’s a lie. I had hundreds of millions of dollars in assets declared in 1999.” Source:https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/12/i-cantt-promise-nigerians-that-1-n1-i.html ALSO READ...'OSINBAJO NOT TO BLAME FOR BUHARI’S FAILURE'---Atiku https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/12/osinbajo-not-to-blame-for-buharis.html I am the Reason Why Nigerian Celebrities have a flourishing Career.. SOURCE: https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/12/atiku-cannot-win-any-election-even-in.html#more Lauretta Onochie, special assistant on new media to President Muhammadu Buhari, says former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar cannot win in his local government if he contests the 2019 presidential election. Abubakar, who defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, was quoted to have said he will definitely beat Buhari, should he decide to seek re-election in 2019. But speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels TV, Onochie said, “Atiku has lost touch with reality”. Onochie said: “Atiku may have had that weight some years ago but over the years he’s been losing that weight and at the moment, I can tell you the even in his local government area in his native Adamawa, he can’t win any election. “So where is the weight? I think Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has lost touch with reality; I think he needs to check again. “He is known to hobnob from one party to the other when he cannot have control in that party. “President Buhari is not competing with him at the moment. What he’s trying to do is to pull President Buhari out of the good work he’s doing and to come to wallow in the mud with him. “The president also knows that the ban on politics has not been lifted; so, he is not going to come out to wallow in the mud with him.” On Abubakar’s claim that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had failed Nigerians, Onochie said “absolute bunkum! There is nothing that is further from the truth than what the former vice-president Atiku Abubakar has said. “Nigeria was on its knees when this present government came into place and it was the same PDP that he has now returned to that has kept Nigeria on its knees for a period of 16 years. It was not under the APC that the economy of the nation almost collapsed right under our eyes. “I don’t see how this government has caused this problem that it is grappling with today. And this government is trying very hard to clean the mess that this government made over the last 16 years. “Nobody should expect that these problems will be sorted out in three years. It is not done anywhere. “As we speak, there is no inch of this country that is still under the occupation of Boko Haram. A lot needs to be done and this government is doing more.” Asked why the APC has been unable to deliver on its mandate to provide employment, Onochie said the money laundered in the previous administration is to blame. She, however, added that the Buhari-led government cannot be said to have failed as “jobs are being created every day. It is doing all the best it can. I will not accept nor agree that this government has failed in the aspect of job creation |
SOURCE: https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/12/does-buhari-deserve-second-term.html#more It is said that one good turn deserves another. Does President Muhammadu Buhari deserve a second term in office? Has he performed well to deserve another term? These questions have palpitated in my head effectuating mixed feelings. The reason is that President Buhari if weighed on the scale of some expected deliverable such as security (fighting insurgency specifically) and combating corruption; I would say he has performed five points above average. But if examined on the slab of economy, health, policy, national cohesion, impartiality, rule of law and fairness, I would say he has flunked the essential test of governance. Initially, I was one of those who rationalised every of Buhari’s administrative faux-pas, but I had to let my conscience find rest. Buhari has disappointed many of his non-fanatical admirers and supporters. He has disappointed me. President Buhari and his party – the All Progressives Congress – made appetising promises to Nigerians in the build-up to the 2015 presidential election, but none has been fulfilled. I stand to be challenged on this. I do not want to sound malevolent in this article, but the Buhari government infected a relatively healthy economy with policy-epilepsy. That said; let me briefly examine just four of Buhari’s 2015 campaign promises. On health, Buhari promised to “ensure that no Nigerian will have a reason to go outside of the country for medical treatment”. Has this promised been fulfilled? Are there signs that it will be fulfilled in the next one year in the life of this administration? On employment, the president promised to “target the creation of three million new jobs a year through industrialisation, public work and agricultural expansion”. Sadly, instead creating three million jobs, the Buhari government has thrown six million Nigerians into the job market. On housing, the president promised to “create a mortgage market by reforming land ownership to give ordinary Nigerians easy access to title deeds”. This has not been achieved. On electricity, it was promised that “the APC government shall vigorously pursue the expansion of electricity generation and distribution of up to 40,000 MW in 4 to 8 years”. Nigeria’s electricity generation currently oscillates between 2,500 MW and 3,500 MW. I have chosen to state just four seducing and lofty promises the president and his party made during the 2015 presidential election campaign. So, the question is, does Buhari deserve a second term in office? I cannot answer this question for Nigerians, but I have my answer. Twitter: FredrickNwabufo, Facebook: Fredrick Nwabufo

Okorocha and the statue Sometimes I sit and reason the rationale behind some actions taken by people especially our Politicians in Nigeria. The first time I saw the story on social media that Governor Rochas Okorocha is erecting statues of Presidents Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia and Zuma of South Africa. I thought it was a Joke or normal story by Nigerians, not until I read the story on a reputable media website in Nigeria. The Governor is set to commission the statue of President Nana Addo of Ghana in Owerri. Now the question is will this projects or act of madness by this mad Governor improve the lives of the people of Imo State? Sorry for referring to the Okorocha as a mad man but for God Sake why will a sane person spend over 1bn just to erect a statues of individuals who have not contributed to the development of people of Imo State. I just guess it is one of his ways of lavishing the State funds. Okorocha has consistently demonstrated lack of emotional intelligence. At the height of his rift with the state civil servants last year over nonpayment of salaries, he allegedly spent N600 million to decorate a Christmas tree. A few months ago, he celebrated his birthday with as many as 27 cakes and threw a huge party amid economic crunch. He has gradually turned himself into an emperor of sorts in Imo, some allege. It is an event that left many in awe, including South Africans most of whom mocked Nigerians and sarcastically asked that he, Zuma, be kept back in the country since according to them, he is a “very corrupt” president who should fit a “corrupt” country like Nigeria. “Well well!! Maybe Zuma is going to defect to Nigeria!” wrote Cherylynn Castelein. “He will fit right in. The most corrupt president and the most corrupt country.” Another, Rudzani Thewhite Walker opined that it was not surprising as birds of a feather flock together. “The corrupt recognizing and honouring each other! nothing surprising. Like the old saying, birds of a feather flock together,” she wrote. For the South Africans, the awe stems from the fact that Zuma who is facing series of corruption allegations in his own country, is being honored in Nigeria. But for Nigerians, especially Imo people, it is shocking especially as the government is owing over 24 months pension arrears while the active workers are still battling it out with him over outstanding salaries. Amid the outrage nonetheless, he has insisted that he owes no one an apology as according to him, he is attracting investment in the state https://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/11/gov-rochas-okorocha-and-statue-syndrome.html#more

It is no longer news that the gross human rights violation in Nigeria is showing no sign of abating. At the risk of sounding like a prophet of doom; the unprovoked attacks and senseless killings of defenseless citizens by ‘suspected‘ gunmen is on the rise. Most worrisome is the recent war declared on the people of Southern Kaduna State by some supposedly ‘faceless‘ Fulani militia. KENNETH DAKOP writes that what is most appalling about the Kaduna debacle is the seeming conspiracy of silence from the authorities to put a halt to massacre. WHAT started like a skirmish in Godogodo, a hitherto busy town along the Jos-Kaduna-Abuja highway, sometime last year has now grown in leaps and bounds leaving on its trail anguish, sorrow, tears and blood. The untamed wildfire kindled by deep seeded animosity amongst the people of the area for God-knows-how-long now has been further fueled by the blood of those caught in the web. Quite a number of theories have been propounded and postulated concerning the killings in Southern Kaduna. Notwithstanding, however, the inter-play of ‘bad‘ politics mixed with a lethal dose of manipulation of religion for selfish ends by state actors can hardly be divorced from the crisis. Crime and criminality could be described as another hypothesis for the disturbances when viewed through a different prism. But from a wider perspective, the siege on Southern Kaduna bore all the features of a Siamese twin to that of Plateau and Benue states. Not many people will agree that the incessant attacks on villages and communities on the so-called North Central Nigeria as we know it today by Fulani herdsmen is a fallout of cattle rustling or reprisal for wrong done the herders in the past by the locals as the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai would want us to believe. Tracing the pattern of unprovoked attacks in the Middle Belt region will tell a tale of more than just the deliberate sacking of communities known to be naturally endowed with rich vegetation and arable land as it is a carefully orchestrated subjugation of the minority groups. Going a step further, deliberate annihilation of Christians and destruction of their places of worship suggests a more sinister plot to wipe out Christianity and cultural identities of nationalities in the affected areas. Well, one may stand corrected in this wise. Yet again, not many will concur that the government particularly the federal government does not have the solution to the persistent bloodletting in Kafanchan, Ninte, Goska, Godogodo and environs. But the criminal negligence to tackle the bloodletting head on by the Federal and Kaduna State governments have scaled up the level of impunity in Southern Kaduna. As expected, the conspiracy of silence by President Muhammadu Buhari and Nasir El-Rufai concerning the pogrom attracted series of criticisms from a broad spectrum of the society especially the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN. Chairman of CAN in the South East, Most Rev. Prof. David Eberechukwu and Dr. Joseph Aka Ajujungwa representing the seventeen southern states of Nigeria were emphatic in their condemnation of the carnage and particularly laid the blame for the killings on the door steps of the governor of Kaduna for allowing it to go on for this long. By implication, the umbrella body for Christians in the country is holding the governor responsible for the crisis. Apart from the religious leaders, other political leaders have also fingered El-Rufai and Buhari of complicity in the violence. Their silence or poor handling of the situation has fueled suggestions from political and religious leaders that the President and the Governor who are of the Fulani extraction are siding with the marauding Fulani warlords to unleash mayhem on the Christian dominated part of Kaduna State. The question then arise as to the gravity of this allegation: what does President Buhari and Governor El-Rufai stand to gain by promoting the violence? Are their willing accomplices from within or outside Nigeria? And why is the governor using huge sums of tax payers’ money to pay compensation to the aggressors? What becomes of the plight of the victims of this madness who are the aboriginal peoples of Southern Kaduna? Well, with the benefit of hindsight, the perennial crisis in that area dates back a long time in history and; to say that the recent violence is not an off-shoot of a long nursed ambition of the total islamization of that region by the Hausa and Fulani jihadists is to live in absolute self-denial. After all, the pattern of carefully planned attacks in Southern Kaduna and, one dares say, those in Agatu in Benue State, Donga in Taraba and some parts of Plateau speaks volume of this clandestine agenda. Perhaps, what El-Rufai failed to tell Nigerians and especially men of good conscience is how much he is using from state funds (part of which belongs to the people of Southern Kaduna) to doll out as compensation to the attackers and killers of his people. All we are told is that the present government is revisiting the recommendations of a committee set up by former governor Patrick Yakowa that investigated the 2011 post-election violence in that part of the state. The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, and Nigerians made demands to know the identity of the Fulani herdsmen to whom compensation or ransom was being paid by the government and the amount involved but the overtures met with a brick wall. What one finds curious in this arrangement is that the government finds it convenient to ‘hastily‘ pay compensation to those they claimed lost cattle during the violence which after all was not only in Southern Kaduna or Kaduna State for that matter but virtually all the states in North. Yet again, it is convenient for the Kaduna State government to advance such reasons behind the compensation in her bid to hoodwink that part of the general public that is gullible into believing that it was a Christian governor who recommended the state action. Be that as it may, what then happens to the thousands who lost loved ones, their limbs, sources of livelihood and dislocation from their ancestral homes as a result of the 2011 violence? Don’t they deserve some form of respite from the state government for their loss? “What is meat for the goose, “ goes that old cliché, “should also be meat for the gander. “ A similar pathetic situation is playing out in Taraba State where Darius Ishaku, the governor of the state came out to advise his people not to fold their arms and allow Fulani terrorists to overrun them. Guess what happened next? It was the lone voice of leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN in that state who shouted foul even when there was no reaction from them when their kith and kin were unleashing havoc on innocent citizens of the state. Ditto what is unfolding in Niger State and other Christian dominated areas in Central Nigeria. When on August 16, 2016 one Dr. Haruna Usman made statements that the sacking of Ninte and other surrounding villages in Southern Kaduna by Fulani militia was in response to the killing of an ardo in Ninte, the security operatives chose to look the other way even where such remarks were incriminating. As if that was not enough evidence for the security forces to swoop in on these perpetrators and their sponsors, on November 7, 2016 another set of rather dare devil individuals under aegis of Jema‘a Foundation, MACBAN and Mobgal Fulbe Foundation Development Association bewildered people of good conscience by the content of the message of their press conference in Kaduna. At that conference, the representatives of the Hausa and Fulani nations did little to absolve their ilk from the mayhem. If for anything, their grandstanding and comments, albeit unequivocally, affirmed that the Hausa and Fulani Muslims are behind the ethnic cleansing and destruction of villages and places of worship in Southern Kaduna. If you thought that bold showing by those merchants of death stopped at that conference then wait until you hear this: Again on December 31, 2016, just when the world was preparing to usher in a new year, the National Secretary of MACBAN also echoed the same position earlier canvassed by their co-travelers. Against the background of these developments, one would have thought that these set of persons would have been cooling their heels with the security operatives but the opposite is the case. One wonders what more evidence is needed by the appropriate authorities to kick start the wheel of prosecution against those responsible for turning that part of Kaduna into a killing fields. The choice of the police and the judicial system not to institute an action against the chieftains of MACBAN and their collaborators leaves much to be desired. And so armed with these evidences, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, responded swiftly to remind the world and especially the security operatives to live up to their constitutional obligations. But even the reaction from CAN came only after the Council of Imams and Ulamas in Kaduna State issued a statement calling for the arrest of Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle, the President of CAN. Ignominiously, the Imams and Ulamas also called for the arrest of Senator Danjuma Laah, Senator representing Southern Kaduna, Dr. Solomon Musa, Rev. Zechariah Gado, Hon. Sunday Marshal and Secretary General of CAN, Rev. Dr. Musa Asake. The ‘sins‘ of the aforementioned personalities, according to the council, was that they dared to call a spade by its name. On the other hand, CAN accused the Imams and Ulamas, and rightly so too, of being hypocritical in its call for the arrests of CAN leaders for what they described as ‘inciting and inflammatory comments on the Southern Kaduna issue. ‘ The Christian body did not mince words when they pointed out that ‘since May last year to date in Southern Kaduna alone, over one hundred Christians have been killed; over fifty three communities with their churches have been destroyed and not less than sixteen villages have been conquered and are now being occupied by Fulani herdsmen terrorists.‘ While the accusations and counter-accusations were going on, a bit of respite for the people of Southern Kaduna may be in the offing and probably, the world will come to know the true position of situation. This is so because an earlier petition sent to the office of the United Nations, UN, by Socio-Economic Rights and accountability Project, SERAP, got the attention of the international body. A memo sent to SERAP last Wednesday by Dr. Agnes Callarmard, Special Rapportuer of the UN on Extra-Judicial or Arbitrary Execution, in response to the petition sent on December 30, 2016, said the UN had indicated interest in the issue and would investigate it. CAN, the umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria welcomed the decision of the UN, more so that Callamard possess vast experience in human rights investigation on behalf of the UN in approximately, thirty countries around the world. The prayer is that she will translate her wealth of experience in other areas into unraveling those behind the massacre. Interestingly, both the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai and Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris said Special Forces of the army were already in Southern Kaduna even as Idris disclosed the intention of government to establish a unit of Mobile Police force in Kafanchan to check the incessant arm conflicts in that area. Like the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo said at a forum in Abuja last Thursday, there are elites who are benefiting from these crises, but then one is tempted to ask: why is the government unwilling to unmask these individuals? Are they sacred cows that cannot be touched? One fails to comprehend how this conspiracy of silence from the authorities will help heal wounds inflicted on the psyche of Nigerians by these senseless and mindless acts of violence over the years. This, indeed, calls for a rethink from each and sundry http://jtownonline..com.ng/2017/01/southern-kaduna-carnage-and-conspiracy.html#more |
