Chinedu the Hawker who makes 1million monthly in Lagos- A lesson For Everyone
Penwise

You must have heard the story of Chinedu a man who earned about 1million every month from his job, which is "Hawking in Lagos traffic".

If you haven't, let me give you a quick run down of the story and then we can go into what we can all take away from his story.

According to a story on LinkedIn and howwemadeitinafrica.com Chinedu moved to Lagos from his hometown, an eastern part of the country to Lagos about 6 years ago.

When he started Hawking, he was making a N5 profit on every unit of Gala he sold and made an average sale of 300 units daily, solely in the Mile 2 traffic. This is about N40,000 monthly because Chinedu, like many other hawkers work for limited hours on Sundays.

In his sixth month in business, Chinedu had explored more than a few of the traffic hotspots across Lagos and decidedly moved to Oshodi. He started selling 10 cartons a day, more than tripling his previous average daily sales, and his monthly income jumped to N150,000.

Later, her travelled down to eastern Nigeria for Christmas. Inspired by his story, 12 young, able men in his village who weren’t gainfully employed followed him back to Lagos. He bought goods at whole prices and gave it to those boys to sell.

About two years after coming to Lagos, he had over 100 young men and women who were buying consumer goods directly from him, at least, once in a week.

At this time, Chinedu earned a monthly average of N550,000 – about N3,000 from each of the hawkers buying from him, totalling N300,000 and N250,000 from his own direct sales.

Chinedu still didn’t stop hawking at this point, he claims this is his secret to the knowledge of what works in traffic and what doesn’t.

It was around this period Chinedu diversified from sausage rolls and widened his portfolio, exploring newer products with better profit: Pure Bliss wafers, Bigi carbonated drinks, plantain chips, etc. His average profit per unit sale stared to average 38% of the unit cost.

Mangers from multinational companies started to seek him out. He provided a unique service to them. When they need a quick sales spurt, to end the month on a high, they visit him, offering a larger discount than normal.

Also, when consumables are close to expiry, these companies offer him ridiculous discounts, sometimes as high as 60%, to sell off the stock. With his network of hawkers, he quickly sells to consumers who do not have to keep the products longer than a few minutes or hours.

Presently, it was said that he made up to 1million per month based on his work.

Now here are the lessons we can learn from his story.

1. Don't look down on any work
No job that pays should be looked down upon, as long has it is legitimate, we should have nothing to be ashamed of. Imagine if Chinedu didn't hawk, I wonder if anyone would be telling his story today

2. Chinedu started small
He did not wait for a big sum of money to start or wait until he got a big loan before starting. We should start with what we have and then grow along the way.

3. Chinedu showed others the way.
Most people would not have brought others from their village, they would prefer to go home and be seen as the rich and give small small change to the boys. Without those boys, chinedu wouldn't have become what he his today.

By teaching them how to make money for themselves, he made some more for himself.

4. Chinedu didn't stop when he started making some money
Many people would have settled as a middle man, just reselling to others but he continued hawking, that way he knows the products that sell and the ones that don't thereby knowing what to buy and resell to others.

Also he tried different areas in Lagos to know the areas that sell the most. That is something all business owners should learn. Don't be too comfortable with what you have. Learn more about your market and find ways to improve.

5. Chinedu Offers Value
Even though his job is ordinary hawking, mangers of multinational companies sought him out. No matter what it is that you do as a business, as long as you add value to other people or other business people would look for you and money will come in.

They would soon free them and claim victory.

The real Bokoharam has been defeated what we have now is government machineries playing script.

Most of you don't know the billions of dollars the government is generating in the war against insurgency.

From both international and our local fund.

Ask yourself why does Bokoharam only strike villages that's even once in 2 to 3 months.

Why is it that they no longer bomb or attack Borno cities as they used to do? What is now stopping them from taking over local governments?

Why the sudden stop of bokoharam attacks in Adamawa, yobe, bauchi and Gombe?? Why only villages in Borno?

Everything is now politics... North east is currently one of the richest region in Nigeria.

Nigerians don't investigate and are too lazy to critically think and ask questions.

Why is Borno state rapidly developing despite years of insurgency??

Go through this thread and see things for yourself.

The Government staged kankara kidnap.

That exact script was played in dapchi.

Very intelligent assertions, which might be true, afterall it happened during the dapchi abduction.

lolz funny you

Both father and son; Akalaka even though they assimilated into the Benin way of life where they were resident on trade, never forgot home. Infact they were never accepted fully and when Akalaka was returning home, the bini culture never came back with him. This is why with all the uproar and promotion of the bini ikwerre connection, an unbiased observer would wonder how come there is no single trace of bini culture in the present day ikwerre way of life. Distance is not a factor here. Yoruba and Igbo slaves and their descendants in far away, US, Jamaica, Cuba Haiti and the carribean nations have somehow managed to retain even to tiny degrees their various cultures in these nations. Things like culture, language and customs don't easily get eroded completely like that.

Who was Akalaka father ? From what part of upland Igbo clan did he originate from and where did he migrate from to Bini to trade. Onitsha/Aboh /Nri/ Akwa axis most probably.
These are questions Ikwerre historians should be asking and researching on and quit this bini connection thing.
I also believe akalaka's mother is not igbo, during that period their were many groups under the control of Benin kingdom. A100% igbo seed like the mainland Igboes and some Delta Igboes cannot be so cowardly and afraid of herders from futa-jalon, to frightenenly attach himself to an ethnic group he has no single cultural connection to whether by language or tradition. Although their amongst them, some who still show that they are from the loins of akalaka's father.

Truely Akalaka's father like many upland igbos migrated to Benin for trade with the benin people and portuguese. He was coopted into the royal family due to his enterprising bearings. His son Akalaka was fingered in an assassination attempt on the Oba of his time and what did he do after- he ran back to his ancestral roots for protection. He didn't run to yorubaland neither did he run south. He ran back eastwards to join his kiths his father left behind and the rest is history.

Note: Not all ikwerre trace their ancestry from Akalaka genealogy though it is the most prominent narrative currently. There were waves if migration from Aro, Ngwa, Owerri , Anioma, and even far away Awka. Ikwerre clans like Isiokpo, some Obio clans have a different origin and it is well documented.
This is the exact true story of the ikwerre, but, why should we divulge the truth to them, what will we use to cure hbp, ontop say na the Tory wet their papa tell them, still remember the time when I dey primary school, Dem tell us say na zik hold the key of river niger, India beat Nigeria 99 vs 0, So much for elders tales.

See the Woman Trying to bring back the old Igbo System of Writing called "Nsibidi"
Favourbest388Dec 10, 2020 8:02 PM
The Igbo people who are majorly found in the Eastern part of Nigeria long long ago even before the coming of the Europeans had a means and system of communication through a writing system, this system of writing possessed by the Igbo is called the "Nsibidi" and it has been existing for over 4000 years.

According to Wikipedia "Nsibidi" is a system of writing that makes use of pictograms and logograms and in some cases syllabograms. But this system of writing if it has been allowed to grow and reach it's full potential, maybe it would have been one of the recognised system of writing in the world just like the English Alphabets. but "Nisibidi" system of writing was cut shot and slowed down over the years when the Europeans (British and Portuguese) made some striking revelations (lie) to Africans that we never had a written language only oral language. Note that The "Nsibidi" writing system started long before the English alphabets.

Because of the suppression the Europeans the written language called "Nsibidi" was not able to climb to it's full potential as it was cut shot by European imposed system of writing and language.

From this it won't be wrong if we say that the Igbo people started civilization long before other ethnic groups in Africa as they had unique and specialized language that has spread over the years to form other languages, some of the languages formed from Igbo language are the Ibibio-Efik (Nigeria), Anaforuna (Cuba), Veve (Haiti). And the igbo language is spoken by millions of people all over the world.

An Igbo Woman who hails from the Eastern part of Nigeria called , is doing her best to bring back the old Igbo system of writing and Invented a New Writing System For Igbo similar to the "Nsibidi" but called "Ndebe Script".

According to Lotanna, "Ndebe script" is to replenish and furniture the gap brought by the annihilation of native growth of the Igbo language due to the missionary evangelism of the Europeans

The biggest lesson that Nigerians should have learnt from ENDSARS was lost on them. They should have learnt never to condone injustice, no matter who it is happening to. These same Nigerians saw pictures and videos of unarmed IPOB and IMN being shot and killed by the Nigerian Army just for protesting, they looked the other way. Nigerian Army shoots and kills ENDSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate, the same Nigerian who looked away when it was IPOB and IMN, suddenly remembers that to shoot peaceful protesters is a bad thing. The same people shouting that the Army is killing people in Lekki toll gate are the same who kept quiet when the same Army went to Obigbo to kill defenceless people. Hypocrites.

ENDSARS was peaceful until the Army opened fire on unarmed people at Lekki toll gate. It became violent after that and the violence spread throughout Southern Nigeria. Police stations were burnt and lives were lost on both sides, protesters and security agents alike. But it was only Wike who decided to turn his state into a war zone over the same matter. Wike just got up one morning, without any investigation, with no evidence and no proof whatsoever, blamed the violence on IPOB. He proscribed them and invited in the military. As a result, far more people were killed and more properties destroyed. While other states were already peaceful and cleaning up the mess of ENDSARS, they were still shooting and killing people in Obigbo, all for what? Because the idiot called Wike hates both IPOB and Igbos.

Today, look at Northerners coming to thank Wike for going after IPOB. Yet nobody in Rivers state has come to thank Wike for the same, not even the King of Obigbo Wike claims IPOB was terrorising. The only fool here is Wike. Neither Igbos nor the Northerners are fools. Everyone knows that the Obigbo massacre was all about Wike looking appealing to the North for his future political ambitions. But even the North will not be able to save Wike from what will later befall him.
