CelebritiesWanna Strike More Photogenic Poses? Here Are Five Tips To Guide You by Jumkye(op): 9:17pm On Jul 26, 2015
Everyone is taking a selfie but not everyone is photogenic. I have seen pictures of people who are not photogenic, people who are a little bit photogenic and people who extremely photogenic.

Truth is we all wanna take photogenic pictures. We want people to look at our pictures and say Wow, you look so photogenic, I always wonder what is special about that phrase but Ladies, it gets us going.

Here are Five Tips to Guide you on the steps to taking photogenic pictures.

Strike a Pose

Don’t stand like a Zombie, strike a pose, use your body to your advantage, and give your body more dimensions. There are a million and one poses, in fact you can invent a million more. Don’t wait for the photographer to complain about your static pose before you strike more engaging ones.

Know Your Angles

Always position your shoulders and hips as an angle to the Camera. By doing this, you are instantly creating a slimmer profile. You can also cross your legs and make sure the leg facing the camera is on top, it will reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Keep It Neutral

Photographers and makeup artists agree: Stick to neutrals. Whether it’s your clothing or makeup, opt for warm, neutral hues that will complement your skin instead of highlighting its flaws. The neutral rule applies to undergarments, too. Try to keep them skin-toned so you don’t have any fashion mishaps, especially under the harsh light of a flash.

Cleanse and Blend

The trade secret to a flawless photo? Clean, clear skin. You should always remove makeup with a makeup remover, and gently cleanse, tone and moisturize the skin. Make sure your skin is clean and your make up blends with your dressing.

The Ultimate Accessory

We know you’ve heard it, but we’re going to say it again: Confidence is the best accessory. Under the hard focus of the lens, it’s easy to let your insecurities bubble to the surface.

Music/RadioQuestions To Ask When Selecting A Digital Music Distributor by Jumkye(op): 1:41pm On Jul 24, 2015
When it comes to choosing a digital music distributor to get your music on sites like iTunes, Spinlet, YSGHubs, StarMusic App, Amazon MP3 and Spotify, you want to feel confident in your choice. If music is important to you, you want to know who’s handling your music assets, the quality of the service and the value you’re getting for the distribution fees you’re paying.

Here are 10 questions you should ask any digital music distributor before you entrust your music to them. Choosing the right distributor is just as crucial as picking the right guitar (or microphone or drum set or, well, you get the point).

Is music distribution their primary business?
Many companies provide other products and services in addition to distribution. That’s not a bad thing, but you want to make sure that they equally support and invest in the distribution portion of their business and are not using it as marketing “hook” to build other parts of their business.

Do they take any portion of the sales revenue your music generates from distribution?
Different distributors have different business models. Some distributors will take a cut of the distribution revenue you earn from downloads and streams of your music. While some other distributors believe that artists should keep 100% of their distribution sales revenue.

Do they have a dedicated Customer Care team?
Let’s face it. We all need a little help sometimes. If you run into trouble during the distribution process is there a team that can answer all of your questions quickly and get your music back on track and headed to stores?

Do they have an online help tool so you can easily find answers to questions you might have?
Many of your distribution questions can likely be answered very quickly, and without the help of a living, breathing human. An easily searchable help section can often get you the answers you need to get through a few minor hiccups.

Do they provide guidelines on how to format your release so you have smooth distribution to stores?
The digital stores have very specific requirements when it comes to the format of your release (audio files, artwork, and release information). You’ll want to know these details ahead of time so you won’t experience any holdup on distribution. Does the distributor monitor the assets being delivered to double check that everything is formatted correctly?

Do they support their artist community?
As an artist, you want to feel like you’re part of a large, creative community. The distributor you choose is lucky to have you, and should provide you with the kind of support you deserve. Are there opportunities for you to increase your fan base? Or do they give you tips from other artists to help your career move forward?

How transparent and detailed is the sales reporting?
It’s important for your digital distributor to be completely transparent with respect to your digital sales and streaming revenue from all the stores you sent your music to. You should know exactly which songs/albums were downloaded and streamed where, and for how much (to the penny). Do you have access to your sales information 24/7? Is it presented in a way that is easy to understand, filter and sort?

Do they offer Publishing Administration to help you collect your worldwide songwriter/publisher royalties?
If you’re a songwriter, you earn additional royalties from the sales, streams, and use of your music around the world. When a distributor offers a publishing administration service, there’s a built-in audit trail that lets the distributor make sure you’re receiving the correct amount of songwriter royalties. Also, ask them if the service is in-house or if they use a third party.

Do they offer Ringtones?
Ringtones are a great way to make more money from your music by turning a 30 second snippet of a song into a ringtone to sell in the iTunes store. Why not make a little extra money and let your friends hear your music whenever someone calls?

Obviously there’s a lot to consider when it comes to choosing a digital music distributor. Getting your music for sale online is a big deal! We urge you check google for answers to all these questions and more, and always feel free to reach out if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

Did we forget some critical questions to ask? Let us know in the comments.

Romance3 Reasons Why You Should Wait A Little Longer To Get Married by Jumkye(op): 11:43am On Jul 23, 2015
These days, no one wants to wait before getting married. People are rushing into marriage and rushing out in Nigeria. People are not getting their facts and life in order before committing to someone else. Most people usually view marriage as the lovey dovey arrangement portrayed in the media while forgetting that there are harsh realities attached to the union.

Here are Three Reasons why you should wait longer to get married.

Financial Security: When both couples have reached a certain age after years of working, they tend to have more financial security than people who run into early marriages. These days you have to have a considerable amount of money before you can send your kids to a good school and live a good life. Even raising kids is getting costlier by the second, that is why you need more financial security in a marriage.

Maturity: Research has taught us women have kids Ten years before they are psychologically ready to take care of a child. Maturity is vital in any relationship and you can only be mature at a certain age. This is one vital ingredient, early marriages lack and that is why they tend to fail sometimes. Maturity is vital, sometimes maturity isn’t even a matter of age but we all know that the older you get, the more mature you become.

Communication Skills: Anyone who wants a lasting marriage would learn to have great communication skills, you have to be able to communicate with your partner, both of you have to learn to rely on each other to talk things out when one person is feeling cheated or sad. Talking to each other and looking in the same direction, that is the only trick and waiting longer will avail you these precious skills.

Family5 Reasons Women Prefer Male Hairdressers To Female Hairdressers by Jumkye(op): 2:31pm On Jul 22, 2015
A few years ago, there weren’t so many male hairdressers around, that side of the hair dressing profession was the exclusive preserve of few. Today more men are becoming hairdressers and this is fact is a big threat to a lot of female hairdressers.

Men always know their onions, that’s probably why you will trust your male hairdresser with your weaves. When it comes to fixing Weave On in Nigeria, men know how to navigate the long windy part.

Men can create styles and un create styles, men are also good carvers when it comes to carving the shape of the hair and cutting to fit appropriately, a male hairdresser is your go to man.

Here are five reasons why women prefer male hairdressers to female hairdressers.

• Confidence: Multiple doses of confidence exude when you meet a male hairdresser; you can completely trust him with your hair because for some reason, you are assured that he won’t take your trust for granted. Female Hairdressers overtime become relaxed when they know they have already gained your trust (they always take that for granted) because she knows you will always come back. A Male hairdresser is not interested in gaining your trust, he only wants to do his job and he does it well.

• No Gossiping: Women love gossip and where all the gossipers in the world converge is a hair salon. When you walk into a Salon, they are talking about someone who just left, when you leave know that they will talk about you. That is the way of the world. This is why Women prefer to avoid the titillating world of gossip. Male Hairdressers don’t gossip, they won’t snicker on your head. They won’t thoroughly appraise your dressing immediately you leave; now a male hairdresser might pass a comment on your endowments but not full out gossiping about how you always wear short skirts. Men mind their own business.

• Passionate: A Male Owned Hair Salon is always fundamentally different from a Female Owned Hair Salon. When you look closely and compare both, you will notice that men are on top of getting enough gadgets. Men are much more interested in getting better, learning new hairstyles as they surface, learning new techniques of cutting weave on. Female Hairdressers relax easily because they always assume that hair styling is a God given talent. Men hair dressers have come to prove that it is an acquire talent which is not the exclusive preserve of women.

• Top Quality: The best hair stylists in the world are men. Most women can attest to the fact that male hair dressers are keen on top quality and they always deliver, that is why women pay well in Male Owned Hair Salons. If you have any doubts, carry out an experiment, check out the same style made by a female hairdresser and a male hairdresser and pay attention to the finesse applied when making the hair.

• Male Perspective: A male hairdresser will know how to make women attractive to men. When you roll up your hair and he smiles at you, you know that he is keen on making you look very beautiful, because he sees what men see and what they see, female hairdressers cannot see.

CelebritiesExclusive: 7 Factors That Helped Dbanj Clinch The MAMA Evolution Award by Jumkye(op): 7:10pm On Jul 20, 2015
Its Don Jazzy again! Or sorry D’banj again, on Saturday, D’banj clinched the Evolution Category of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA). This is the Koko Master’s Second MAMA’s and it is very well deserved.

Here are 7 factors that helped D’banj clinch the Evolution Award.

1. Bonang Methebe Factor- D’banj’s current girlfriend is South African and she is perhaps the most celebrated entertainment/media female personality in Southern Africa. Remember that MAMA was hosted in South Africa. All things work together right. The relationship which has been well maintained over several months worked the right magic for D’banj.

2. Brand Power Factor: D’banj has created a great brand in the African Music Industry and for years to come, he will never ever be forgotten. His Koko is a great koko because everywhere he goes, he is a trail blazer who has redefined the way we see music.

3. Humility – As popular as he is D’banj walks around with a lot of humility, he publicly acknowledged his co nominees without idolising them. He also did a 15 seconds playful video with one Africa’s biggest names, Chameleon and this was a very calculative move that didn’t put him against them.

4. Media Stunts – His deft media stunts before the awards also put all odds in his favour. He dropped a bang video Knocking on my Door, two days before the awards. His Radio interview on Beat FM and Cool FM before travelling directly to South Africa.

5. Online PR Team – Immediately he was nominated, his online team made a lot of noise, everywhere, on BBM, on Facebook, on Twitter, the buzz was everywhere. It was a total online shutdown canvassing for people to vote for D’banj.

6. American Powerful Stars as Friends and Partners - From Common to Kanye West to Jay Z to Trey Song to Big Sean to Beyonce to Snoop Dog and other American superstars and even world richest man, Bill Gate they all know his name or have worked or partied with him. In case you don’t know, MAMA is the African franchise of US MTV which has massive global influence and reach and Dbanj is a charismatic brand they all adore!

7. Frenemies with Don Jazzy – D’banj publicly acknowledged Don Jazzy and he also dedicated the award to Don Jazzy, his former partner, that was one of the most iconic moments of the night. The kiss with Bonang too, that thrilled the audience.

This act will be one of the most talked about topic for a long time and therefore win more 'enemies' and 'indifferents' to Dbanj's camp!

Celebrities10 Reasons Why You Need An Artist Manager by Jumkye(op): 9:40am On Jun 15, 2015
All artists need management! When starting out as an artiste, your manager will wear many hats. A manager has to be a cheerleader, psychiatrist, advisor, guide, problem solver, and what can be affectionately referred to as babysitter.

A good manager will guide you protect you from bad business deals, and shady people as if his or her life depends on it.

It is important to note that having a bad manager is worse than having no manager at all.

The more successful you get, the bigger your team gets. Eventually your team will consist of a manager, an agent, a lawyer, concert promoters, your Artist Development Representative, Road manager, a Business manager and others but you must start from somewhere.

Here are ten reasons why you need an artist manager.

1. Career Guidance - It's often extremely difficult for artists to step back from the day-to-day activities and see the big picture. A knowledgeable manager can see how everything in the big picture fits together, and can help the artist navigate through the often-confusing maze of activities that seem unrelated yet are all part of a massive puzzle.

The manager provides career guidance and helps to set the overall game plan for the artist and the artists' team to follow. For example in the case of Olamide, after Tony Payne disengaged him from her outfit and seems to be having his career going south after the monster hit, “Eni Duro”, he contracted a manager (name withheld) who was able to help guide his budding career and within a year or more, Olamide was beckoning a force in the industry and now dining with “the kings”

2. Cheerleading - Even though fans are the main cheerleaders for an artist, someone has to communicate the same enthusiasm to the music business community. An artist manager will trumpet the artists' message to record labels, booking agents, promoters, media personnel, club bookers, independent retail accounts, etc., in order to keep them all engaged and enthusiastic.

A vivid example here is the case of Wizkid after being a studio rat since he was 11, was introduced to Banky W’s co-led EME Records by a female manager some years back and aside the Record Label taking up the mantle of grooming Wizkid, the manager was able to “Cheerlead” Wizkid to the record label and corporate/general public

3. Prestige - According to most record industry professionals, there is something to be said about an artist that has a manager. The logic is that if an artist is good enough to attract management, there must be something of value present. In fact, most major labels (not the mushroom “record labels” that dominate the entertainment scene in Nigeria) refuse to sign an artist unless they have solid team (manager, booking agent, attorney and publicist) in place.

An artist without management is just too much drama! Labels would rather deal with someone who knows how the music business works and can make decisions on a non-emotional basis. Imagine everyone who want to have D’banj as a performing artiste for their event calling him directly to book him, of course they could even ‘price’ his performance fee to N10,000 whereas if you call his manager, you could end up paying as high as N8 million (depend on the client)

4. Buffer - A manager can act as an effective screening buffer between the artist and people that want to do business with the artist. This buffer tends to attract legitimate industry players while at the same time scaring away scam artists. There are no scarier words to a scam artist than "please talk to my manager". Example here could be as the same way explained in No. 3 - Prestige

5. Time management - There simply is not enough time in the day to do everything that needs to be done in order to further the career of an artist. In between writing songs, conducting interviews, designing artwork for CD's and merchandise, managing a mailing list, filling out copyright paperwork, rehearsing with the band, hiring and firing producers, updating artistes websites and social media profiles, getting pictures taken, shooting and editing DVD's and YouTube videos, s researching, repairing and purchasing equipment, liaising with media outfits etc., there isn't time to also craft a master game plan, solicit potential sponsorship partners, reach out to industry gatekeepers, attend industry networking events, harass labels for tour support, and so on.

Some tasks can be delegated to the project while others can be handled by the manager who still coordinate them and then regularly update the artiste whose career depends on everything. Few artistes in Nigeria such as D-banj, P-square can afford to have strong management team of Business Manager, PR Manager, Tour manager and so on in their management team but they all started from somewhere!

6. Accountability - Part of a manager's job is to hold people accountable. What happens when the financial tour support that was promised by the label fails to materialize? Or the check from the booking agent bounces? Or the Radio station and TV stations are not playing the artiste song? Or the licensee fails to sign and return the contract but is using the artist's songs anyway? Somebody has to keep people honest, and that is most appropriately the manager's job.

The Manager stays on peoples neck to ensure that everyone is responsible and accountable to the artist.

7. Good Cop/Bad Cop - Need to fire the bass player or team member not performing optimally but don't want to create an enemy? Let the manager play bad cop and do the firing. Need to re-negotiate your contract and request more of a promotion budget? Let the manager play good cop and keep a positive spin on the proceedings. There are plenty of occasions when the artist and manager can trade off playing good cop/ bad cop.

8. Sounding board - A manager, even though basically an "honorary member of the band", is frequently on the outside looking in. Managers usually see things differently than the artist, and can often provide different perspectives, insights and solutions to problems the artist is encountering.

Running ideas by a knowledgeable manager prior to making decisions often allows for good ideas to become better and bad ideas to be removed altogether from the to-do list.

9. Professional Music Production: An artist manager ensures that you get the best deal in terms od music production. If you want that record deal, you need to bring yourself to a certain marketable level before approaching record labels. That means making an investment of time and money. You need professional music production, exciting pictures and a serious internet presence! Bring your music directly to the people and build up your fans! If you're successful enough on your own, record labels will start approaching you, and then you can dictate the terms and your manager ensures that success.

10. Contacts – If you are a newbie in the music industry, a good manager would furnish you with contacts of agents and promoters, who would help advance your career. No one can exist in a vacuum, that is why you need as many contacts as possible and it is your manager’s duty to ensure you have enough contacts.

Do You Need a Manager

All artists need good management! It’s hard getting a successful music manager to listen to your demo package, let alone manage your career, but don’t give up The Ultra Music Group is here.

CelebritiesFACTS: How Dbanj Is Truly The Definition Of African Entertainment Pace-setter by Jumkye(op): 8:51pm On Jun 08, 2015
On the 8th of June, D'banj will be a year older. As fans, friends and family join the Koko Master to celebrate his birthday, we explore facts to prove to you that D'banj is definition of African entertainment pacesetter.

The Koko Master himself redefined Nigerian and African Entertainment. Before he came to the scene, our entertainers were not respected and recognised, D'banj revolutionised the entertainment industry.

Here are facts to corroborate that assertion.

Producer Recognition- Before D'banj came to the scene, Producers were relegated to the background, they were hardly given any recognition, D'banj changed all that with four letters, IDJA. Its Don Jazzy Again paved the way for producers to get more recognition from the music audience, people started looking out for the name of the music producer, and today Producers are becoming celebrities with swelling bank accounts.

Producers started getting the respect they deserve.

Now you have the likes of Sarz, Tymix, Cobhams, Shizi, Mastercraft, Dtunes etc getting their dues alongside the artiste.

D'banj is the Pace Setter for Nigerian musicians coming home - Most Artists preferred living abroad because of the poor living conditions of artistes in the country. After working as a security guard in the UK for a while, he decided to return to the country with Don Jazzy and until they broke up, both of them made good music.

People feel in love with D banj and the Koko Master Revolution began. Today we have Nigerian artistes like Banky W, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shey, Eldee amongst others who came back home because the likes of Dbanj took the first step.

Artist Endorsement – D'banj was the first Artist to be endorsed by a corporate organisation in Nigeria. His 16 Million Naira Power Fist Contract is the reason why many corporate organisations started selecting Nigerian Celebrities to become the face of their brands. Remember the 70 Million Globacom Deal; many people started using Globacom because the Koko Master gave Nigerians total assurance.

In October 2014, D'banj was named the official African ambassador for Beats by Dre. In February 2015, D'banj was named the official African ambassador for Ciroc Nigeria.

Romance7 Bad Habits That Can Damage Your Hair by Jumkye(op): 3:20pm On May 14, 2015
We’re all much aware that our hair needs to be treated with care, daily we must proceed with caution when it comes to our hair. Here are seven hair crimes we can be guilty of.

Our hair is delicate and we put it through a lot. Let’s take a look at this list below and learn how we can avoid mistreating our hair!

1. BAD BRUSHING

One of the top worst things to do to your hair is to grab a brush and just randomly tear through your strands. I know you’re in a hurry, but you can damage your hair, rip it out and it can hurt! Work in time to properly brush or comb your hair before you run out the door. Also, don’t feel obligated to brush your hair 100 strokes a day. This is a bad hair habit that can cause hair to break or split!

2. DIRTY BRUSHES

Another common mistake people make with hair brushes is to not clean them on a regular basis! Hair brushes can get dirty from oil, sweat and styling products, so it’s a must to clean them about once a month to remove dirt and bacteria. You can use shampoo or baking soda mixed with water for a quick cleanup to remove oil and grime. Also, don’t forget to remove any leftover hairs after you brush your hair!

3. BLEACHING

You might already be aware of this, but bleaching your hair can be a sure way to damage your hair!

4. TOO MUCH HEAT

A common bad hair habit that we’re guilty of is using a lot of heat tools on our hair. If you use a blow dryer, curling or flat iron on a daily basis, this can cause permanent damage to your hair. Heat tools can dry out and damage the structure of your hair from the constant heat, so be sure to give your hair a break every once in a while

5. PRODUCT OVERLOAD

Your hair can only take so much! Using too many products can weigh hair down, cause build-up on your hair and scalp and removing this entire gunk can end up stripping your hair of its natural oils.

Do your hair a favour and don’t use too many products at once and always use less than you need. You can always add more later but you can’t take back too much product!

6. OVERWASHING HAIR

If you like to feel totally fresh from head to toe day in and day out, you might wash your hair on a daily basis. While this bad hair habit might help us feel refreshed, it can be too much cleansing for your hair to handle. You don’t want to wait too long to wash your hair but washing it daily can strip your hair of its natural oils, which can result in an overproduction of oils from your scalp. Unless your hair is dirty, wash it every other day or so.

7. TIGHT HAIRSTYLES

Did you know your favorite hairstyle could be a way to damage your hair? Add some variety to your looks and wear your styles loose or just wear it au naturel every once in a while. Wearing tight hairstyles can cause a headache or hair damage-both of which we want to avoid!

Have you ever committed any of these hair offenses? I know I have! Even if we’ve made some mistakes in the past, we can always make changes now to correct those mistakes. Our hair is a delicate fiber that needs lots of care Treat your hair well and it’ll treat you well in return! Do you have any bad hair habits you want to add to this list?

FamilyRe: Wife Opens Secret: What My Husband Did To Me In The Bedroom by Jumkye: 8:00am On Feb 12, 2015
What happens on your marriage bed should never been an issue for a public space like Nairaland. You husband is asking you to suck his fluid, you guys should sit down and talk about it, let him tell you about his likes and dislikes. Since he is an expert on the bed, let him teach you what you need to do to satisfy him and you also teach him what to do to satisfy you. Sex is not as abhorrent as people make it seem. All this people screaming God Forbid, is it not the same thing he inserts in your Vagina, so that doesn't disgust you, if you are asexual then why did you get married.

And you people cuddled before marriage, you didn't talk about sex?

Jeez, you sound like my Mum when she is talking about sex too. How much she can do without it.

Don't go and ruin your marriage, use google, read about MouthAction, you can tell him that you don't like swallowing it, that is not a crime. You don't have to like it but talk to your husband, read about sex, sex is not a sin, if God didn't want us to have sex, he won't have created sexual organs.

If you like, listen to all these morons on Nairaland.
