rvp2018: We have leg room - we are in IMF programme - and we are doing well - nobody is expecting kenya to collapse - gov is thinking of doing great stuff - ambitious stuff - not ghana crisis
Keep talking - by Dec - you'll be offline.
Ghana has a whole room for 20 people not just leg room. Ghana is not facing a debt problem because Ghana is highly solvent What is happening is Ghana bureaucratic problem causing a liquidity problem. Something that can easily be solved by moving money from Ghana stabilization fund into Ghana sinking fund and getting approval to to use the money. Doing this will mean no IMF but govt does not have the numbers in parliament to make those changes and the opposition is not ready to help them pass the changes but will rather support govt in cutting down on it expenditure which will be a death blow to the govt. Other options is to declare the seat of some Mps vacant to organize by-elections but the speaker of parliament won't agree. Ghana political scene is not for kids
Kenya is in a serious full blown crisis and that is why you ended up at the IMF far back in 2021. Ghana has not gotten to that problem yet. IMF has caused serious inflation issues for ordinary Kenyans as prices of most thing that used to be subsidized by your govt have had to double in price. We saw the shortages of basic stuff in your country such that if not for the IMF, you wouldn't have been able to purchase fuel or even grains for your economy. That is how bad things got
rvp2018: Focus on Ghana Kenya we are very okay. One thing we have never lacked - BRAINS - ask Tanzanian how many times they close their borders for fear of kenya brains. FUNDAMENTALS ARE AS USUAL GREAT - underlying inflation 5%, base or policy interest rate 8%, headline inflation 9%, currency deprecation 8%,
Our little problems ended when we elected Ruto
Ruto's Chief economist advisor says
https://twitter.com/DavidNdii/status/1585663898371383299 Zero chance. Eurobond Markets are closed but banks are open . We are on course to raise this years $900m external commercial financing target at below 8% and there is no shortage of appetite for more.
unfortunately the fundamentals don't look great on your finances hence the default and not even China wants to loan you money at the moment.
Your country has no room to pay the debt it currently holds because wage bill and debt servicing is already 125% of revenue. And unlike Ghana that has raining day funds, you guys even cutting down on expenditure will still not be enough.
rvp2018: Do you have degree in economics and teach in John Hopkins if you dont; madcow; only Nana take you seriously.
I rather listen to : Steve Hanke @steve_hanke Professor of Applied Economics @JohnsHopkins | Senior Fellow @IndependentInst | @NRO | FX & Commodity Trader | Reagan White House | Views are my own
Yes I have economics background and all the economist I know from all the various Ivy league schools all come to the same 37% inflation using the laid down structure accepted world wide by IMF, WB, UN and etc.
Why are food prices so high in Kenya than in Ghana? Why are you running away from that? Is that too hard for you to answer? You'll end up spending more of your money feeding in Kenya than in Ghana
rvp2018: Usual excuses. Last few months it was about getting mobile money tax - came and went. The problem is whatever you do - Eurobond is sinking you. I think IMF is delaying this because soverign default is inevitable and required. They have been playing games for a year now.
Ghana eurobond are now at 41 percent yield rate
41.0088 Yield Ghana, Republic of 7,75% 21/29 Yield in % (last price) 41.0088 Yield in % (ask) 39.3577 Yield in % (bid) 41.0088 Flat notation n.a. Accrued interest in % 0.4521
Eurobond is not responsible for Ghana liquidity problems.
Kenya debt servicing ratio is 70% of revenue and Ghana will be at 55% by year end 2023. Kenya wage bill already takes 55% of revenue. The country is not allowed to take on anymore debt due to IMF sanctions and creditors fear of your inability to repay. Your sorry country does not have any sovereign wealth fund to fall unto.
rvp2018: Kenya food inflation is 9% That mean if incomes havent risen - people are suffering 9% more. Ghana is 120% These figures are from experts - not from you googling around and trying to compare.
Ghana inflation is 37% which is mostly driven by transportation, fuel and utilities. With all of that, Ghana manage to have lower food prices in various markets than Kenya... So while A Ghanaian with a higher standard of living is paying less for food, Kenyans with lower standard of living have to spend 1.5 times on food than a Ghanaian will.
These figures I'm comparing are from the retail prices of basic commodities in both countries. Those are the realities on the ground that ordinary Kenyans face.
This explains why a lot of Kenyans go hungry daily
popizaino: Is the vawulence you are witnessing is not enough ?
Truth is the worst is yet to happen to Ghana. The country has to borrow to even pay debt that tells you the dire situation the country is right now. I am no expert in economics but I will help out by posting the speech of former Ghana president John Mahama on the state of Economic and the solutions to it later.
Ghana is in a better position than Kenya.
At least we haven't defaulted on any of our debt and neither have we restructured any of them yet... That shows we have enough room to avoid the Kenya situation.
While Mahama is recommending cutting expenditure on key govt policies, the govt will prefer using Sinking Fund inflows for debt servicing. This will be difficult for the govt to have access to because they don't have the numbers in parliament to get it approved.
rvp2018: Your pedestrian calculation won't help Ghana 120 percent inflation. You dont compare countries cost of living that way. Focus on NANA the Big Fool who has sunk your economy 100% plus dollar depreciation. 1 dollar - 14 cedis
Yet hyperinflation has dealth a bitter blow to Kenyans than Ghanaians effectively driving more Kenyans into poverty than last year.
Why are food prices more expensive in Kenya than in Ghana?
Do the 45 million poor Kenyans all live in turkana? Or the 18 million starving ones all live in turkana? Are turkana people not Kenyans?
You've continuously had foolish leaders since independence who have worked hard to make sure Kenyans are poor, instead of fixing your issues, you're busy making excuses yearly
I've seen Egypt turn dry desert soil fertile yet you sit on fertile soil that you only need to water and cry.
Why are Soo many Kenyans starving in this 21st century?
rvp2018: Focus Ghana 120% inflation. Where did you get this 18 million kenyans. 18 million people across horn of Africa - that mean Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, etc Are facing a serious drought. There is nothing one can do about such a NATURAL disaster.
Ghana is facing a human disaster called NANA THE BIG FOOL who sunk Ghana economy
even with Ghana 37% inflation, food prices in Ghana are far lower than in Kenya. Make that make sense
What's wrong with your shit hole?
You can't grow much in Ghana without irrigation so your argument does not even hold water.
Nana Addo is far better than your current and past presidents combined. He will never run his economy down for this number of Ghanaians to start starving. We all know Kenya has never had any sensible leader before.
All I see is excuse upon excuse.
Ghana used to have similar yearly starvation up north 30 years ago and we managed to solve those issues.
obaaderemi: No matter how bad the situation is, I'm sure Ghana will weather the storm. Ghana is a mineral rich country and resilient.
things are okay for everyone who is working because the economy manages to absorb adjustment for everyone offering service in one form or the other. Ratio
rvp2018: Desperately trying to pull a strawman argument. Kenya is not part of your problem. The problem starts with short man called Nana who speaks and sometimes dress like a witch. He has completely failed.
And surely there was only one way out for such empty-headed cross-dresser
You're desperate here when your people are waiting for insect infested WFP food because they can't afford anything in Kenya...
Don't ever compare yourself to Ghanaians.. we will always be better than you in everything. Try bringing the quality of life of Kenyans to our standard
obaaderemi: I don't understand what's going on with the Ghanaian economy. Guess I'll just glean what I can from just40 and pokuasi's back and forth. Wish vankelvin and popizaino would join in as well to balance the equation.
That idiot just like to whin like a woman for nothing ....
I wonder why he is still arguing despite the fact that he confirmed everything here himself when he posted melcom prices.
Because those prices exposed him, he decided to remove the pics
POKUASI2: You're a nitwit appointed by your govt to come here and misinforme people.
You're so desperate in your attempt to dispute the price of made in Ghana rice I gave you. Go and ask for the price of Oheneba rice and see .... It used to be 45 cedis and now at 48 cedis. Abena rice is 50 cedis but used to be 45 cedis
Nana Rice also their long grain in green bag is 50 cedis while their Reb bag own is 80 cedis and their price has remain the same since the beginning of the year.
Poor boy don't talk about things you don't know Dim guy
POKUASI2: you're mentally unstable. You made wild claims rubbishing my statement about how inaccurate your inflationary figures are by providing cooked up prices of household essentials and I'm showing you evidence that backed my earlier pronouncement questioning the data your govt released and here you're talking nonsense as always
which one was a wild claim... Haven't you yourself confirm everything here by melcom prices ?
POKUASI2: when you want to be a liar forgetting the world is more advanced than your stone age brain. This is made in ghana local rice the thief claimed is sold for 45 cedis
You're comparing a local grown rice which has the same quality as Basmati rich to the rice that are commonly bought on the market by every Ghanaian?
POKUASI2: the tail waging NPP propagandist has resort to flee so as to save face since his utopian ghana is being exposed. The world is getting ready to sing another "WE'RE THE WORLD " for ghana.
I don't like to deal with stupid liars
And I'm not an NPP person, I'm too smart for party politics.
Ghana makes your dream a possibility just like it provide good standard of living for every single Ghanaian.
Try Kenya and you'll be cooking rock by now or queueing for food aid
POKUASI2: So steal workers are special beings hence why their take home pay is detached from the average Ghanaian worker. You see why I've always maintained that you're not smart.. Some of the brain numbing, kindergarten logic you push forward sometimes forces one to question how intelligent you really are.
The average Ghanaian earn relatively the same salary as them or above depending on the company...
Better get informed than to post the usual nonsense you like to post here.
POKUASI2: you're delusional and lie through your teeth. Don't think because your govt waste borrowed money on you urchins called party propagandists means private entities that knows about prudent management of resources do same. I work with a corporate entity in your country and know that 80 percent of my colleagues take home 450 to 500 a month..
POKUASI2: What is 37? Inflation? Hahahaha.. How is inflation 37 when a loaf of bread is now 18 cedis from 8 cedis at the beginning of the year. A cup of cooked rice that used to go for 2cedis at the beginning of the year now 5 cedis and you want to tell sane, discerning humans that inflation is 37 percent?
why do you like to lie like that?
Standard ShopRite size bread begun the year at 10 cedis and it is 13 cedis today.
Fruit bread that used to sell for 12 cedis at the beginning of the year is now 15 cedis.. Always ultra thin pad 18pcs per pack which used to sell for 21 cedis is now going for 24 cedis. Transportation from tetteh quarshie to Tema used to be 5 cedis and it is 7 cedis and 8 cedis for certain cars, Aayalolo is still charging 5 cedis.
I don't buy cup of rice I usually buy 5Kgs and my Ghana rice which used to go for 45 cedis is now 48 cedis while imported rice which used to go for 50 cedis is now 55, 60 and 70 depending on brand.
Desperate liar Calculate the inflation on that if you're educated.
POKUASI2: You're a chronic liar with no shame. Which unskilled workers earn 1500 when drivers of fan milk are earning 900 cedis a month. Unskilled workers between 450 to 500 a month. Some of them started with 300 a month. Continue lying so as to look good before these Kenyans. Your women are wailing cos they can't afford sanitary pad that's now 15 cedis. You should be ashamed of yourself downplaying the suffering your compatriots are going through.
Go to steal works and see how much their workers are earning.. go to beverage companies and see..
Dont always be desperate to lie... No driver will take 900 cedis especially when their colleagues doing just taxi are earning more than 3,000 cedis per month.
Sanitary pad price has only gone up by 2 cedis over the entire year for 16 pieces per pack... No one wail over that.
Desperate*idiot who can't spell or compose proper sentences
rvp2018: So he leaves his work to go construction sites? It's already been done by John Hopkins economic lecturer - it's 120% as we speak And definitely the income of people have not been increased this year by even 10%. And this not just food inflation - it seem to be core/underlying inflation - everything is inflated. In kenya at least it's most food inflation - underlying core inflation stuck 5% forever amen -
it's actually 37% and will decrease to 25% by year end.
Nothing here has gone up by 120% ... Not transportation and not food.
For 18 million Kenyans to join the starvation band is quite a disaster.. can't you guys create a resilient economy that trickles down so that everyone benefits instead of leaving that many people to be increasingly vulnerable?
Ghanaians are doing okay and wouldn't join Kenyans who are increasingly starving by the day as 18 million are waiting for food stamps from WFP. Hence you're also better off
POKUASI2: earn daily from where? The average Ghanaian goes home with 24 dollars a month. I know cos those are what 90 percent of my colleagues take home. I'm talking what I know and you're talking from your a.ss. I frequent your industrial enclaves and know people take home 450 a month. Most of the teachers of privately owned schools are going home with 300 cedis a month. Worker of latest foam, fan milk ghana etc go home with 450 a month.
Go to construction sites and ask how much labourers are paid... Go and ask gardeners and cleaners
I hire a few, once a while and know how much I am charged.
I frequent industrial areas too and know that most unskilled workers there are earning between 1500 to 2,000 monthly which is paid weekly
POKUASI2: lies like these is the reason your country is on the verge of collapse. Who pays 150 cedis daily when the average Ghanaian earn 450 a month. Us this guy ok up there or what? If people earn 150 cedis daily, there wouldn't be kiosks and containers littered all over Accra. If people take home 150 cedis daily, Accra wouldn't have 256 slums.
if you want to know Ghana living wage, ask for the price of a labourer as determined by the market. Go to construction sites and ask laboures how much they earn daily, ask cleaners, gardeners and co. The market pays between a 100 cedis 150 cedis daily.
See the English you're even typing... Are you hungry?
There's is kiosk because people want to own their own business and they have to start from somewhere... Most of them make more than that in a day.
POKUASI2: Daily Minimum wage in ghana is 11:80ghc.. Now to eat, you need 5 cedis to buy rice, 7 cedis to buy either, fish, meat or chicken.. Plus 0.40 cedis to buy a sachet of pure water.. now that's how much? 12:40ghc for say breakfast. That's entails that you spend more money buying breakfast than your daily Minimum wage. This basically means if you're gonna eat 3times in a day, you need 37.20ghc. 37.20ghc to eat 3times daily in a country where daily minimum wage is 11:80ghc.. Now times 11.80 by 30.. you get 354 cedis a month. Now convert 354 cedis to US DOLLAR.. that 23.70 dollars. 23.70 dollar is what the average Ghanaian worker is surviving on in a month.
that expense is less than 10% of what most Ghanaians earn daily so a lot of people are okay though it has eaten into their pocket a bit...
They will rather be in Ghana where they earn between $200 to $400 dollars as peasants and spend less than 10% of it on food than Kenyan peasants who are currently waiting for food aid because of starvation.
POKUASI2: there the resident idiat goes again!! You're here painting a perfect picture of what your country that's on life support is not. Your people are dying of hunger.. this is a country where 8 in 10 people you come across have ULCER. A country where minimum wage is 11.80 cedis a day and you need at least 15 cedis before you could eat. Businesses are closing up and sending workers early 450 cedis a month home to go die of starvation. Some of us are the ones sustaining alot of Ghanaians by giving them 20 cedis from time to time to feed.
see you can't even spell well.
Must you always lie? What kool aid have you been drinking this time?
Living wage has increased to 150 per day and no business has closed down because they are all making money.
You mean you're being sustained by Ghanaians who give you 20 cedis day after day to feed because you have nothing doing than to hope daily that goods arrive somewhere so you can pack.
POKUASI2: early this year, you could buy 2 cedis rice without meat but now, you need 5 cedis yet they claim inflation is 37. A ball of banku early this year was 0.50 cedis.. Now it's 2 cedis yet inflation is 37 percent. One egg early this year was 0.50 cedis.. now is 2.50 cedis yet inflation is 37 percent. How do you lie to your own citizens going through difficult moments. Their women can't even buy sanitary napkins anymore cos it's 15 cedis now from 6 cedis early this year.
You're far better off... If you were in Kenya, you would have been part of the 12 million people who joined the starvation league waiting for Usaid and WFP food packages.
Your don't have to be dramatic kiddo with your price hikes which exist only in your mind.
