Mkenya2019: He should long have been fired for he is solely responsible. Who takes Eurobond during COVID-19. When likes of Nigeria and South Africa were running to IMF. There was almost zero conditions attached to IMF Covid reliefs. But he choose to take commercial loan in period of covid because the campaign platform of Nana was to avoid IMF.
Leaders should always make the right move even if they had promised heaven. Now he is going to IMF under his fours and the conditions that will come will be acute.
There are no conditions from the IMF under the program I've seen. They are only going to restrict govt borrowing and with their negotiation with the opposition party, there will be a break through for the release of funds from Ghana sovereign wealth funds to end the liquidity issue.
Unfortunately for Kenya, you guys are suffering from the full force of the IMF with all kinds of conditions that has force your govt to cut subsides which were the back bone of your economy without preparing your citizens for the shock. IMF managed to force your govt to cut spending on it pro poor policies which is causing more suffering in Kenya. All because the Kenyan economy was dead when it approached the IMF in it debt crisis.
TookDownYourMum: You are talking about the same man (Mahama) who was in power for 8 years and did nothing for the average Ghanaian.
Your understanding of economics is thin especially on the world stage and how any changes affect Ghana's economy so I suggest you go and do alittle more research. The world is suffering from high levels of inflation especially those with less developed economies like Ghana (does include other factors) because the USD is the world's reserve currency that is used for international trade. Ghana's currency value is how it weighs against the dollar. Feds in America are hiking their interest rates to contain their recession to avoid people's objection to the falling value of money in their own country, which inturn strengthens the US dollar, they export their domestic inflation to other nations causing currencies to tank. They can support their currencies by raising rates in line with the Fed, but only at the cost of even lower growth.
Russia and Ukraine war does affect Ghana via oil prices and sourcing inputs for the agricultural sector.
Also, lets give a kind reminder of Mahama "achievements" while in office.
- When Mahama lost the national election to Nana Addo-Akufo, he liquified billions worth of national assets to himself and his brother.
- Aisha Huang was arrested 3 times for galamsey under NDC led by John Mahama only to be released and do the same thing.
- Poor management and inability to solve Dumsor sent Mahama to the IMF. NPP deciding to go back to the IMF again is not the same as the prevailing conditions under which Akufo-Addo's Government made the choice to go back.
- Mahama presided over low industrial growth during his four years in office and high unemployment which reached a record of nearly 7% in 2015. It only decreased down to 4.6% under NPP in 2020.
You would have to be a complete fool to vote for Mahama in 2024. I'm not saying NPP are saints as I believe they need to stop their excessive borrowing and their policies like the E-Levy being forced on already impoverished Ghanaians are a pretty terrible move but to compare NDC to NPP is stupid. Its like comparing the Republicans to the Democrats and saying theres no difference between them.
Stop lying to yourself kiddo
First of all, Mahama was not in power from r 8 years.
Mahama achievement in power only comes second to Nkrumah.
Mahama never accrued any national asset to himself or his brother or family. Even the bauxite deal was fraudulently scrapped from the hands of his brother company.. meanwhile the foreigners they rewarded the contract to will still end up going to his brother company to subcontract them.
Unemployment has only gone up since the NPP took power as it moved from 7% in 2016 to 13% now. This is all because of a vindictive destruction of Ghanaian businesses.
Yes Mahama presided over low industrial growth but saw an expansive growth in the service sector , a sector that has gone downhill under NPP.
Exactly, to compare NPP and NDC is foolish because NDC is far more developmental in their thinking and politics while the NPP is mostly mediocre and filled with hate.
This is a calculated effort to destroy the banking sector ... The Cedi current problem is all because the BOG decided to starve commercial banks of forex
GeneralDae: And U.S keep hiking their rates. They even did yesterday. I think the opposition is hard on the NPP this time because of how boastful the NPP were during the campaign in 2016 and how they ridiculed the NDC then. They also made mockery of the need to go to IMF even until June this year when it was clear they should go. The NDC even from the beginning of the year already predicted there was a crises and debts were at the unsustainable realm but the NPP shrugged it off claiming E-Levy was a needed panacea to the revenue problem. Oppositions always see things clearly than when they are in power.
The US exporting it inflation has nothing to do with the current situation here.... It is all self inflated
QueenNyakim: Cedi is slowly gaining against the dollar, its now ₵13.63 according to the Bank of Ghana and other currency converters like Google. Hopefully, this improvement is not shortlived.
13.01 by BOG and 13.50 by bureaus but this is not the momentum that will bring it back.
samorobo: Lol is this not what malls in kisumu looks like. This basic looking thing is what you trying to hype. This should be called a plaza not a shopping mall.
POKUASI2: stupid.ity is when you spent 26 dollars at the mall and see the nerd to post it on nairaland so as to prove to whoever that cares to listen " Ghanaians arenot hungry".
Why, were you expecting me to spend more than that on breakfast stuff?
You're really insecure ... That was just to tell you that your ulcer narrative is only concocted in your head..
POKUASI2: dude you're hungry hence why you're posting marina mall receipts just to prove "you indeed shop at the mall". You collapsing govt has given you a token at the end of the month and as part of the propaganda project, you went shopping at the mall. Dude you spent less than I dash a colleague to complete his rent yesterday. Imagine this homoerectus showing receipts of 400 cedis on nairaland. Negro, you're hungry and proud.
GeneralDae2: I think Ghana at some point would have to control the prices of fuel or do some type of subsidy with the way the prices seem to go up almost every now and then.
POKUASI2: This one is marina mall receipts just to prove a point and the fact he's not a slum dweller.. hahahaha.. Dude save your small man syndrome BS cos nobody is impressed.
Hungry boy ... Get something good doing. Looking at the way you're ranting over 15% to 30% price adjustments only tells me that you won't even survive in Kenya. Find something better doing and you will have it easy. Spend sometime educating yourself.
POKUASI2: one can actually sense hunger in this BS. Imagine a country where 8 in 10 people you come across have ULCER during the good old days. The new phenomenon now is people taking their own lives cos they can't continue to suffer..
Does this look like hunger to you ?
Ulcer is not even among the first 100 lifestyle conditions reported at hospitals.
If you have ulcer because you can't feed yourself, its only because you're lazy and not bright.
vankelvin: [b] You are talking about patriotism? You left all the multifaceted problems facing your country to lie about Ghana and you think we should assume it's normal? Even if things are too expensive in Ghana is it your country? oga face your front
If you want to critize Ghana do it constructively (full of facts) and stop the persistent lies you keep spewing about Ghana
The kid is really suffering from OCD
He hasn't learnt to create a business for himself so that living in Ghana can be easy for him instead of carrying things on his head daily for peanuts. He is casting his own suffering on everyone
Shma2022: Yes, there is inflation in Kenya. That's not the point. The point here is ghana is on the verge pf facing hyperinflation - Kenya is not anywhere close.
Kenya is already facing hyperinflation and it is part of the reason why general cost of commodity is expensive there than in Ghana..with the weekly change in cost of food stuff in your shithole.. mother's are already crying of being unable to feed their children
Kenya has a serious cost of living crisis as most Kenyans can't feed themselves With food prices and basic commodity prices far higher than cost in Ghana. There's fear that without serious decision taken, the world might have another terrible humanitarian crisis. This is all happening because Kenyans are lazy and generally poor, always tipping at the edge of a crisis.
rvp2018: Outside Africa - being skinny is considered beautiful - while your fat arse is considered lazy bone coming to smooche their system. Nobody has the time to distinguish btw Ghana and Nigeria - they are same criminals.
there's a difference between being skinny, being plumby and being skeletal.
I'm sure you've seen the captain Phillips movie, there's no honour in looking like that
Need I show you the most respected Africans in the Americas for their achievement and Europe for their achievements?
They don't like you east Africans because you're usually lazy and only coming to depend on their social system. Most East Africans only entered there as refugees and have stayed so even into your second and third generation depending on aid.
I know the stories from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, UK and Germany so well
rvp2018: Identity of the unwanted and the unwelcomed. Even in African countries - you'll struggle if they know you're from the Zoo. And Ghana. Bad repuation. You'll cry in many airports as they subject you to cavity and orifice searches.
Ghanaians are few of the most respected Africans at various immigration points around the world...
They pull Ghanaian away all the time to allow us to spit lines at various immigration points while lots of you East Africans go through unnecessary checks all because they suspect you guys to be poor and not well traveled.
The mere fact that you guys keep looking like skeletons from the zoo causes immigration officers to disrespect you
