@JustCare.

When I searched your suggested title, this thread came up as one of the first page results. It does look intriguing.
It was great you saw this...I never knew this particular thread existed here. I actually created one earlier this year, but that one is far behind on religion section. Just try and get the book. You can get it anywhere in the world... but if you wish, you may start reading it online @ grailmessage.com/en/ click on start reading, to begin from the start. You can also download all lectures of the message in pdf on the same site.
Namaste!

Sadist? How is it you don't like the taste of your own medicine?
Easy people!

Hello Enlightenedsoul! I'm done with Siddhartha, it was a great book. I have always come to believe in ultimate truth through experiencing alone and other stuff concerning our purpose in creation.
I have read similar and more enlightening books in the past... I'm even on a continuous reading of one. Hope you've come across the grail message? If you haven't, try and and a composite volume. It is a book worth examining with strict sense of logic.
Danke!

BusinessCement Price Rises To N2 ,200 by JustCare(op): 7:49am On Dec 16, 2014
The hope of construction experts and cement consumers over a crash in the price of cement was
dashed yesterday with a fresh hike in the price of the commodity.

Some weeks ago, a major cement producer in the country said it had crashed the price of the product
to as low as N 1, 000 eliciting excitement in the construction sector . Even with the promise , the
product was never sold at N1000 anywhere across the country.

A dealer in the Ibafo area of Ogun State who spoke on condition of anonymity said one of the major
manufacturers had indicated that its next consignment would be delivered at N1, 900 , adding that by
the time other variables are added, a bag of the product would get to the final consumer at N2 ,200 .

To make the product available to customers , the firm said it had set up depots across the nation and
also offered opportunity for direct purchase .

LiteratureRe: The Singularity Is Near- Nairaland Readers Club by JustCare: 6:41am On Dec 04, 2014
amnestylaw1:
I like reading a lot and I know I am not the only one. Currently, I am reading: "The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology" by Ray Kurzweil.

This book takes the reader on a journey into the world of transhumanism- a world where human and machine become one. According to this award winning author and futurist, very soon, we as humans would be able to alter the ageing process and "conquer" death. We would be able to use technology to hack biology. I find this book fascinating because it discusses a point in time when there will be such an exponential increase in technology such that would lead to technological singularity.

Isn't it interesting that (as predicted by Kurzweil) by 2045 we will be able to communicate with one another via our thoughts without the need for phone or other handheld devices? By then, smartphones may be outdated technology and the in-thing would be chips wired through our brains, veins, and bodies. It's kinda weird to think that these will make us cyborgs and help us read other people's thoughts. Have you ever wondered how possible it would be to be able to download someone's else's thoughts on computer and present them as evidence(s) againts that person in a criminal proceeding before a court of law? How about hacking into other people's brains, minds etc? Think about the possibility of "thinking machines" who will tell us that we are committing murder for destroying them.

There are so many ideas discussed in this book and I have attached a pdf version of the first chapter of this book to this thread for your enjoyment. smiley. This man (google him and watch him on Youtube) is not another time-wasting author. He has predicted with accuracy some of the advancement in technology we enjoy today. He invented a reading device for the blind. If you are one who is interested in Artificial Intelligence, nanotechnology, science, robotics, computer, genetics, biology, reading, learning new things, etc, this book is a must read.

I was wondering whether there are others out there who would like to read this and other books and then we can come together and discuss. I was thinking (assuming there isn't currently anything of such on Nairaland) of something along the line of a Nairaland Readers Club where we agree to read a particular book over a period of time and meet on Nairaland to experience the thrill of sharing ideas and opinions with other readers worldwide as we ponder over the hidden messages and our place(s) in what we read.

What do you think?

Please drop some thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks for reading.

I just downloaded the full PDF. tnx bro

INTERVIEW

V/O: “What do you know about Germany?”
Me: “The official name is ‘The federal Republic of Germany’ (Bundesrepublik Deutschland), Germany is a cosmopolitan Democratic country located in central Europe, with a land area of about 357,000 sqkm bordered by 9 countries namely, Denmark, the Netherland, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech republic and Poland; it has a population of about 82 million people comprising of the indigenous Ethnic Germans, which are the majority, and the minority Danes in the North around Schleswig Holstein and the Sorbians in the East around Brandenburg. There are also about 2 million ethnic Turks and other people from neighboring European countries and others from all over the world; the capital is Berlin and its largest city with about 3.4 million people. Others are Hamburg (1.8 million), Munich (1.3 Million), and Cologne (1 million). Germany has one of the strongest economies and their major production includes, engineering, chemicals, medical equipments and the service industry in the World and they use the Euros as currency. They are the pioneering member of the EU and also a Shengen country. The constitutional head of Germany is the chancellor, Angela Merkel and the ceremonial president, Joachim Gauck. They have a bicameral system of government comprising the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. They have 16 states namely, Baden Wu…..”

V/O: “stop! Thank you, stop! Thank you!”
I gifted her a smile as she typed into her system, that was what I wanted, I’m not gonna stop until she says so.
I wanted to add that East and West Germany was reunified as one in 1990 after about 45 years of separation and that reunification day was October 3rd, I wanted to add that Germany is a cool temperate country and the great river Rhine, Danube and Elbe runs through it.

V/O: “Name your course structure and courses from beginning to end?”
I remembered that I was not supposed to act like I know the entire questions before hand, so my eyes widened (Bernie Mac would be proud of this CIA prodigy imitating him), and I contorted my face in confusion before I regained a fake confidence to answer the questions with occasional pauses and scholarly muses.
Me: “My course master in monumental heritage comprises of 120 credit units spread across 4 semesters and the courses for my first semester includes…………”
I gave her all the courses from first semester to the 4th with occasional ‘ehs’, ‘ahs’ and ‘hnnns’

V/O: What is the relationship between your planned Masters degree and your Bsc?”
Me: well, my planned masters degree focuses on the conservation and preservation of Monumental heritages. This entails the management and maintenance of these monuments. In the same vein, property management, facility management and building maintenance are basic aspect of my Bsc degree, which deals with the conservation, management and maintenance of building whether old or new in order to achieve the goal of the owner. My planned Masters degree is just a specialized aspect of my Bsc degree.
She was happy, with my answer from her encouraging nods as she typed something unknown to me in her system. Progress!

V/O: “What do you plan on doing after your studies”
I quickly bellowed loudly and passionately,
“I will come back to my darling country NIIIGGEEERIIAA as a consultant and lecturer” grin
She typed, looked up and asked;
“Do you want to be a consultant or a lecturer?”
Me: “well, consultant”
I said that for the records though. “Who cares about Monuments in Nigeria? You want me to go broke? Who I want give advice?” I mused reflectively. As I remembered that I choose the course as a last option because of my late application.

V/O: “what do you know about the city where your school is located?”
Me: “Dessau is in Saxony Anhalt, home of the Bauhaus Architecture and Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom. it has a population of about 77, 000 people, its less than I hour from the country’s capital Berlin, less than 20 minutes from Halle and about 30 minutes from Leipzig by road”
I pronounced the last city proudly as ‘lipzeeg’. She interjected and registered a mild frown/smile for ‘murdering’ the name of her precious city.
“Laip-tigk?” she corrected.
I wanted to protest that I used the English pronunciation but I let it go.

Other question bordered on my sponsor’s info like Name, my relationship with him, Profession, Address, how long he has lived in Germany, the kind of accommodation he stays in, whether House or Apartment and the amount earns
She was interested In the amount he earns particularly…….so I told her, “ He is a self-employed businessman so his earning varies due to the nature of his business and therefore doesn’t have a constant amount but he earn very well above 1500 euros every month.
I had to improvise that though and I guess I was right.
She didn’t quite query much in that aspect as I had expected, because I was really ready, I even know his favorite colour and the size of his shoes and not forgetting the colour of his car. No time!

That was how the session ended, she typed in her last words and motioned me to go with the usual compliments, got my passport, indicating the end of the life changing interview, the essence of the whole waiting…I walked out majestically with both hand in pocket, “Eke40seven, you have done a good job, you hit your targets” I mused as I gulped in some fresh air ready for the second phase of waiting, for either good or bad news.
your performance was really outstanding. kudos bro! #learning from you

One of my cousins made me read "Plato's Republic" which was more enjoyable as I got into it.

"Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse

"The Concept of Mind" by Gilbert Ryle.

"The Prince" by Machiavelli - I actually have this sitting in my room right now.

Might you be interested in Eastern Philosophy? Why not give these a try, and see how you like it.
Thanks. I will get them right away

Hi there.

Considering I don't know your area (or level) of philosophical interest, it would be hard for me to recommend a title outright. I can list my own personal favorites, but you may or may not enjoy them - there's just so much out there!

Have you had any kind of introduction to philosophy? The book that turned me on to philosophy in HS was "Beyond Good and Evil" by Friedrich Nietzsche. I thought it was very intriguing, and I can honestly say it changed my perspective. Little known fact, the popular saying "that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger" was coined by Nietzsche.
chai! ...I'm enjoying your company already! actually, I have been a private philosophy student and a researcher into the extraordinary with deep curiosity. I have read a little on philosophy and more on spiritual works...but I have always been a rational thinker, and a question asker who's been getting answers as well. Just give me a list...and be rest assured that I will download and read them, I will also get hard copies as necessity demands.
thanks... *heading to download Beyond good and evil*

That's very nice of you to say walal, but everyone is different. At the time I signed up, I was deep into Yoga and reading a whole bunch of philosophical works...and I suspect that's where the name came from. I still have these interests, but I'm no more enlightened than the next person lol. But thanks really, I think you're a decent person too, Artan! smiley

You're right. I'll try not to show any bias loll.
just the reason I followed you... seems you've read
could you pls recommend some of such books?

that's same thing I say to myself when I observe myself as an outsider but when I look in the mirror, I appreciate the container and the content. It will also get 'weirdier' if I tell you am more energised when I get closer to nature. I'm getting sensitive to energies around me. There r just some people you merely stand few meters away and you get drained while have experienced boosts of energies when someone walks into a room. It is quite funny being human.
