Dis Guy:
If I run a one man painting service, how does an e-commerce seminar/lecture help me in Nnewi for example, this should have been directed at students or start-ups who at least know something about the internet/computing.
There are internet service providers in Nnewi, and the mobile internet trend is spreading fast across Nigeria, including Nnewi. It will do a one man painting service business lots of good if he can create a platform that can make it easy for him to be contacted, without necessarily being visited at his shop. This will among other things, attract big customers e.g Banks, Government establishments etc, who will prefer to get such a service through a simple click or call, than dashing down to the market to get same at the same cost.
Moreover, The service price will be fixed online, thereby giving customers the opportunity to make estimates based on feasible prices, which automatically removes the stress of negotiation and the problem of lack of transparency (The price needs to be the same with those of the other people offering the same service ).
It takes four steps;
1. Development of a platform, which I plan to do for them plus internet for free (For a year).
2. Advertisement of service through Complementary cards, B to B and B to C direct visits,  Banners etc. I will guide them.
3. An internet mail check schedule to attend to inquiries through the laptop I will give to some of them and phones that some already have.
4. Create a page for feedback to assess quality of service.

The idea is, Why would a customer want to go the market to search for painters, when he/she can just connect to the net on his/her GSM (While browsing FB), to book a painting time at a cost that is the same with the ones in the market? Even if the person is a non-educated senior citizen, he/she will find it more convenient to call his/her kid or neighbor to make the contact on his/her phone, while facing more pressing issues at home.
The most difficult part of it is making it popular and ensuring that services offered are of high quality. I will help them in the popularity aspect. But, as far as the service quality aspect is concerned, I will emphasize on its importance in the class. As a matter of fact, I will tell them not to bother to embark on the project if they cannot offer a good service. I also want to tell them to always be open to criticism, which will serve as a differentiating factor.

You will agree with me that you don't need an extra skill to check your mail (Which I will still teach them), Read a message, and just put the sender's e-mail address on a pre-existent normal reply and send (I will give them a page load of potential replies to messages, and teach them how to use each). Moreover, some contacts can come in the form of SMS and Calls.
PoliticsNigerian Masses Are As Corrupt As Nigerian Politicians (evidence) by Justcash(op): 1:13am On May 26, 2011
Nigerians in general, especially the masses are corrupt. The dreams of most Nigerians, both rich and poor, are to get an opportunity to dig their forks into the national cake and loot their part. This explains why as soon as a pauper is elected into an electoral position, he or she turns into something else, and suddenly becomes very corrupt.

I flew back from Yankee some few days ago and decided to organize a 5 hours e-commerce skill acquisition class for two days, where I intended to give out some of my new model laptops to some very small scale businessmen.

I contacted a not well to do man in the neighborhood 2 days ago, and decided to employ him on a part-time basis with a paltry salary of 15,000 P/day (Around $100), for the duration of the course. This, I expected to be enough for him to at least start up a petty shop after the end of the program. I even made him to promise to do so. All he had to do was to get as many small scale businessmen to attend the class, by going from shop to shop and talking to them. I was aware that they would exhibit some form of apathy about going to sit and listen, when they should be in their shops.

I specifically told him not to tell them that laptops would be given out. I intended to give them only to some outstanding few. I, however, planted some of my boys to monitor him and bring reports of his progress back to me.

To my biggest surprise, I got a report that the man had spread the news that laptops would be given out to everyone that would attend the class. Not only that, he was demanding for 500 Naira as attendance fee. He even went ahead to collect the money from some people and promised them brand new laptops, when he is not even the one that is responsible for that.

The question is, what is the difference between this man and a normal Nigerian politician? If this man happens to become a politician tomorrow, and leads Nigeria, you can guess how wayward he would be!!! Even after getting a contract to make 30,000 Naira in two days, he went ahead to extort money from his fellow countrymen, without even considering that they also find it hard to feed themselves and their families.
I think corruption is worse among the Nigerian masses than politicians.

I don't think that it is the nature of Nigerians. It is just a work of greed and lack of empathy.
Let's be real.

The reason why people are downplaying his accomplishments are:
A) He is in the ACN
B) He is Yoruba

Bluntly speaking, that is the reason why this happening, right? Let's be real with ourselves.

Those who don't care about either of these factors (e.g., the US ambassador I mentioned) will be honest. Or the analysis from the Economist. Or the credit agencies that are trying to assess a state's ability to repay a loan. They don't give a crap about ACN, Yoruba, etc. All they care about is performance.

No one is downplaying Fashola's accomplishment. He is infact, my best governor. I am Igbo, as you know. It is also not everyone that is a tribal bigot. Personally, I don't hate Yorubas. I only hate some segment of Yorubas because they have shown that they hate Igbos (My own ethnic group). The fact is that Fashola is doing well and fine. But, for me, he is being over hyped.  If you live abroad, and read about Fashola's achievement online, you will be very disappointed when you land in Lagos state to see the reality on ground. That does not in anyway mean that he is not trying. It is only those that know how Lagos was, that will appreciate how it is now.
For example, If you go to Anambra state, you will call Peter Obi the worst (est) governor in Nigeria. But, those that saw Anambra in the past will confirm that it has changed alot (Though, slowly). It is a gradual thing.
There is no basis for comparing Fashola with Arnold. Fashola is not close to him yet. Drop it man, you cannot prove it.
@Justcash: I disagree. The hype wouldn't be there if what he were doing were common in Africa.

Frankly speaking, it is not. So relative to the governance most are able to obtain on this continent, he is doing "extraordinarily" well.

Now, how does he stack up against say Western administrators?

He'd probably be well above average even compared to US governors. I'd certainly take him over Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, for example. That guy didn't really do a good job, imo
And there you go. LMAO!

However, part of this is just because the competition isn't doing as well as they should. People aren't used to good government, so they become surprised when they get it.

BTW, for those claiming it is purely media hype. . . well then the hype machine has done an excellent job of bamboozling the following organizations:
1) Ambassadors (Read what the US ambassador wrote about him on Huffington Post, for example.)
2) foreign investors
3) international media
4) Other nigerian governors
5) The credit rating agency that rates Lagos State's credit as strong as that of Nigeria's

All sentiments aside, we know who is performing the best. Just some for various reasons will refuse to admit it.
The post is not about which governor is performing the best. It is about the uselessness of the hype about Fashola when he is not doing anything extra -ordinary (Especially for someone that has seen it all in developed countries). Your statement in bold is a good answer for the post.

PoliticsRe: What Is The Big Deal About Fashola? Nonsense! by Justcash(m): 5:56pm On May 24, 2011
@Poster; I understand your point. Fashola is truly doing what he should do as a governor. However, given the type of backward leadership that Nigerians have experienced in their brief nationhood, his achievements can qualify as "extra ordinary" achievements.
In the developed world, Fashola would surely have been thoroughly criticized. Alot still needs to be done.

But at least from the quick glance I gave it, it looks pretty standard.
Thanks.
That isn't how this sort of statistical methodology works. You don't need a database. If you get sufficiently randomized and unbiased samples, it should accurately represent that of the population as a whole. This is pretty much a science, at this point.

And the studies weren't conducted by wuruwuru Nigerian organizations, but by international researchers.

I get your point about statistical significance. But for the AIDs stuff, life expectancy, and education levels, the gaps were huge. Probably statistically significant. . . I didn't read each study that carefully though.
I am interested in this your response.
I will like to know how one can RANDOMIZE without a prior DATABASE? How one can get the UNBIASED SAMPLE to represent a whole population without an idea of the database.  How can one determine the WHOLE POPULATION without a database?
@Justcash: I travel there once a year. Granted, I've not been to Ebonyi (or the SE zone period). But the guys who conducted these studies have. I have no real reason to doubt the results of say a life expectancy study, for example.
Statistics depends on "Significance", which on it's own is roughly mathematically calculated and is a rough estimate. Now, they pick samples, conduct experiments and assume that their findings are genuine, until a new research is conducted to disprove them. With the obvious lack of a sound database of Nigerians, one would wonder how they select their samples, and what indicators they used to assume and reach their findings?
Well, that aside, Ekiti is not in anyway more developed than Ebonyi state. Infrastructurally and otherwise. The string of pathetic leadership that have always led the state have not helped issues. That does not in anyway imply that Ebonyi is close to developed. It is the least developed out of all the SE states.  Ekiti to me is also the least developed in the SW if I have not ignored any state.

Regarding Ekiti vs Ebonyi, I don't think there is a single statistic Ebonyi is ahead in grin

Ekiti leads Ebonyi in the following (and you can look them up yourself):
1) Education rates (some of the best in southern Nigeria, period)
2) Literacy rates (same as above)
3) poverty rates
4) life expectancy (one of the highest in Nigeria)
5) GDP
6) GDP/capita,
7) HIV rates (one of the lowest in Nigeria, while Ebonyi and the SE zone have amongst the highest)

etc, etc. Not so bad for such a young state.
No offense man, but when last did you return to Nigeria? Really, I mean no insult. When last did you visit Nigeria?
Statistics is really different from realities. Statistics are from indicators, and available database. Over-reliance on statistics fakes up reality. Drowns practicality, and promotes theory. If you are depending on it, then you gat some real problems to handle when you meet the reality on ground.

If they like. It is up to them, I cannot control what others want to take pride in.
Again, do what you like.
Which advantage am I claiming? I'm not claiming Lagos on the behalf of Ekiti State. Or the Ekiti people. I'm doing so on the behalf of the Yoruba people. Yorubaland is Yorubaland.
Lagos state is not your state. Stop claiming it.
If you have to claim it, others have the right to claim it. It is a Nigerian state.
Yorubas are in other countries. It will be too strange to claim Lagos state for Yorubas, when it is a Nigerian state and was built and developed by Nigerians. Abi una dey wait for us to develop am, so that you guys can come and claim Yoruba dominance. I laugh in Awori Lingua.
Ekiti is way backwards than any South Eastern state, Ebonyi included. So, don't yap crap about the east being under-developed, while your state is worse off.

Desola:
Beaf, Ekiti state is a relatively new state and a non oil producing one. Rather than harping on about their alleged underdevelopment, do you care to boast about your state's achievements? I am not exactly sure if you are ibo or Deltan and for my short stint here, I have only come to know you as goodluck's voltron.

So, beef, care to tell us a bit about you and how much your state has achieved in Nigeria as opposed to Ekiti state?
No, don't go there. Niger-Delta is the only reason Nigeria gat some bragging right. It is the only reason other countries wish to have diplomatic ties with Nigeria. OIL. Yes, that is it.
Lagos is contributing nothing but shame. If Lagos does not win the "Biggest slum in the world", It will win "The most dangerous city in the world". No insult intended. It is a fact.
Foreigners ignore all those bad images created by Lagos state to come to Nigeria against all odds because of oil.
And you will agree that it is OIL that is the oxygen that is keeping Nigeria going. Remove it and see how deep down Nigeria will fall.
