HealthEbola Killing Robot That Destroys The Virus In Minutes Is Now In USA Hospitals by Justice629(op): 8:09am On Oct 08, 2014
A germ-killing robot designed to rid a room of dangerous viruses in minutes is being used to keep hospitals Ebola-free. Called 'Little Moe', the robot works by damaging viral DNA using pulses of ultraviolet light.

It is currently being used in 250 hospitals and health facilities across the US, including a Dallas hospital where a patient with the first case of Ebola diagnosed in America is being treated. The robot rolls around on four wheels and uses xenon, a non-toxic gas, to create the ultraviolet rays needed to destroy viruses.

It blasts 1.5 pulses per second up to ten feet (three metres) in every direction to kill viruses including Ebola.

Light that is 25,000 times bright than sunlight is created in each flash. The robot was first made available in 2010 and each unit costs £65,000 ($104,000).
'Our robot ensures the room is safe for the next patient by destroying germs on high-touch surfaces, and in hard to clean nooks and crannies,' a spokesperson for Xenex said.

Ebola, however, is actually easier to kill than other infectious diseases such as superbugs that mutate
and become immune to disinfection.

It takes just two minutes for the robot to destroy Ebola on a surface, while other viruses can be eradicated in five minutes.
Such technology, using UV rays to sterilize a room, has been around for decades, but Little Moe speeds up the process by using xenon in place of mercury.

By comparison, a mercury-based UV machine takes up to an hour to disinfect a room.
'Our mission has always been to eliminate the pathogens that cause the infections that impact the health and lives of millions of patients and their families, and Ebola is no different,' Xenex said in a statement.

Damilare Babajide, a 4th year law student at the University of Lagos (Unilag), over the weekend took home a brand new car and other unnamed perks after emerging winner of the 2014 Miss Unilag pageant. Ms. Babajide’s windfall immediately ignited a debate among students and lecturers, with some criticizing the material rewards bestowed on a so-called beauty queen when the same university hands a mere computer and some cash to winners of its demanding debate contest.

One lecturer, who asked for anonymity, said he was troubled that the car and other gifts to the university’s beauty queen far outstripped the prizes given on September 10 to the winner of the university debate competition. Zainab Olaitan, a 2nd year political science major at Unilag who won the university’s rigorous academic debate competition, was awarded N100,000 and a laptop computer.

The lecturer also noted that last year’s winner of the debate competition, Ms. Mary Adegunloye, received a laptop and N50,000. “I understand that the university management was planning to give the same paltry sum of N50,000 cash prize this year to the winner of the debate, but decided to double the cash prize because of criticisms from some lecturers and student leaders,” said the source.

Reacting to the disparity in gifts for the beauty contest and the debate competition, a few students told correspondents that the relatively small reward for intellectual achievement was likely to affect the academic morale of students on campus.

PhonesSamsung Makes Its Prettiest Phone, But Does It Look Familiar?? (see Photos) by Justice629(op): 5:43am On Oct 06, 2014
Samsung consistently pumps out phones with big, beautiful screens, powerful processors, and high-quality cameras. On paper, that seems amazing. These are best-in-class phones. Supercomputers in your pocket.

But for design snoots like me, it's hard to see past all the plastic. Samsung phones may have those gorgeous displays — the best in the world, according to some experts — but they're encased in cheap-feeling, creaky plastic. If the iPhone is a well-designed tool, then Samsung phones are plastic playthings.

Samsung's newest phone, the Galaxy Alpha, is a response to all that design criticism. It's Samsung's first Galaxy phone to incorporate metal — an aluminum band with chamfered edges wrapped around the case. Oh, and it looks eerily similar to the iPhone 5/5S

AT&T is the only US carrier selling the Galaxy Alpha right now . It costs $200 with a two-year contract, or $613 off-contract.

Feature-wise, the Galaxy Alpha can do pretty much the same stuff as the Galaxy S5, so I'm not going to waste time going over all that. Here's a quick recap: It has a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button that lets you unlock the phone without entering a passcode, but it doesn't work as well as the iPhone's fingerprint sensor. I often have to try multiple times to get it to work. The Alpha also runs the same version of Android. The screen is a bit smaller at 4.7 inches. It's also not water resistant like the Galaxy S5 is. Still, to make it easy, just think of the Alpha as a slightly smaller Galaxy S5.

The Alpha is all about Samsung testing its design chops. The phone looks good, but it's disappointing to see Samsung using the iPhone 5 design from two years ago for inspiration instead of pushing forward on its own. HTC has been able make phones that are just as beautiful as anything Apple can build without copying the iPhone style. The Alpha looks like Samsung took the iPhone 5, made the screen slightly larger, and added a flimsy, removable plastic back cover.

That's what makes the Galaxy Alpha such a strange device. It's supposed to offer a "premium" feel, but the result is a curious Frankensteinish mishmash of plastic and high quality metal. Yes, it looks better than any other Samsung phone, but I wish Samsung had gone all the way and made a unibody, all-metal device.

Other than that, the Alpha performs just as well as the Galaxy S5, which is a good phone if you like Android. The screen on the Alpha isn't as sharp as the one on its big brother, but I doubt most people will notice. It also fits in my hand a lot easier than the Galaxy S5, and the metal band makes it feel more solid and sturdy. The battery can get you through a day and the camera can hold its own against other high-end smartphones.

It's best to think of the Alpha as an experiment, an offshoot of the Galaxy S5 that's more about design and build quality than trying to innovate new features. Samsung will likely wait until its next flagship Galaxy phones launches to wow us with something really new. Conclusion If you like Samsung phones, I think you should buy the Galaxy S5 over the Alpha. It has a bigger, nicer screen and costs about the same. But if you've dying for a Samsung phone with some metal on it, choose the Alpha.

PoliticsFemale Robbery Suspects Arrested In Calabar by Justice629(op): 6:37am On Oct 02, 2014
Women have continued proving that what man can do, a woman can do it even more better, oshee!!! Well a female robbery suspect, Joy Ugoro and three other accomplices, Eso Esoh Ekoh, Imoke Bassey, and Emmanuel Ohi Euba, said to be members of a notorious robbery gang in Calabar have been arrested by the Police in Cross River State.

Joy and her gang were alleged to have robbed and raped one Chima Ogiuke of Catholic Church Essien Town and Chineye Uzoegbu of Flour Mills all in Calabar in the first week of September 2014 and carted away three plasma television sets, one IPad phone, two air conditioners, refrigerator, wearing apparels and other valuables.

The spokesman of the Cross River State Police Command, Hogan Bassey who paraded the robbery suspects, said the gang specialises in robbing people around Flour Mills, MCC Road, and Parliamentary Road .
These people have made life a hell for the people of Parliamentary Village, MCC Road and Flour Mills by constantly carrying out raids in those areas, prompting the police to undertake sustained efforts by our foot and vehicular patrols which led to the arrest of the hoodlums.
Joy confessed that the items they robbed from their victims were sold at give- away prices in and outside Calabar. We sell plasma Tv for N5,000 and Ipad phone for N3,000 or N5000 naira and we pack house hold items because people do not keep much money at home these days
The Police spokesman also stated that a 30- year- old man, Joseph Edet Essien, suspected to have kidnapped a 3-year -old girl, Dorcas Michael Udofia, and took her to Eziama in Abia State where he negotiated to sell her for the sum of N200,000.00 is now in police net.
On the strength of the complaint, officers and men of this Command swung into action and the suspect was apprehended and the victim recovered and reunited with her parents.

PoliticsRe: Cameroonian Army Claims Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau Has Been Killed (pix) by Justice629(op): 7:14pm On Sep 22, 2014
Nigerian military intelligence source has told SaharaReporters that the top Boko Haram figure killed in a recent operation was one Bashir Mohammed, leader of the Islamist sect’s Uye camp.

Cameroonian authorities yesterday released a photo of a dead man they identified as Abubakar Shekau, the loquacious and attention-seeking leader of the terrorist group that has launched deadly strikes in Nigeria’s northeast zone as well as Cameroon.

The Nigerian intelligence source told SaharaReporters that Nigerian soldiers, not Cameroonian troops, had killed Mr. Bashir last Friday in a fierce battle against Boko Haram insurgents in Konduga, Borno State. The late Mr. Bashir, who bore a striking resemblance to Abubakar Shekau and had appeared in a recent video, was killed as he led insurgents who were attempting to capture Konduga and then made a bid to seize Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, as well. Nigerian soldiers routed the Islamist militants in Konduga, killing hundreds of them and capturing weapons as well as vehicles abandoned by fleeing insurgents.

The military as well as Nigerian government-appointed negotiators claim that the original Mr. Shekau had died since last year, reportedly assassinated by his lieutenants.

The intelligence source said Mr. Bashir had adopted Mr. Shekau’s nom deguere and had been the person responsible for issuing video messages in recent times.

Even though our source said the military was cautious not to claim credit for Mr. “Shekau’s” death, he added that the Nigerian military was buoyed by the capture of the armored tank usually displayed in the background of recent videos issued by the sect’s spokesman.

Cameroon Military Kill Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram Leader ……Five Insurgents Surrender, Beg Jonathan For Mercy

The menace of Boko Haram took a new twist yesterday (September 21, 2015) when the Cameroon army in a rare show of bravado, released the photographs of the Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau to the public, claiming he was killed during a cross border raid deep inside Nigeria by the Cameroon military.

The Street Journal reliably gathered from a Cameroon military source late last night that Abubakar Shekau was killed following an aerial bombardment of his hideout inside Nigeria. The Cameroon army has ever since yesterday been in serious combat against thousands of Boko Haram fighters trying to enter Cameroon via Fotokol from Gambaral Ngala in Nigeria.

It was further gathered that the development has put the Boko Haram camp in disarray in Nigeria culminating in the devastating blow the insurgents experienced in Konduga, near Maiduguri on Friday. The Nigeria Army had on Sunday (September 21, 2014) announced the capture of a number of insurgents.

A week after soldiers stopped the Boko Haram insurgents from taking over Konduga, a town 35 kilometers from the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, the military has said five members of the insurgent group have surrendered in the town.

In a tweet on Sunday, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, said five members of the Boko Haram on Saturday surrendered their weapons to soldiers

The military said the insurgents surrendered because they could not endure the massive onslaught by troops. It said the insurgents also pleaded for mercy.

The DHQ also said other captured insurgents are giving useful information on the group’s subsequent attack plans.

Several battles between the military and the Boko Haram in the past week in different Borno towns have left scores of people dead

The latest of such occurred on Friday in Mainok, a village about 56 kilometres from Maiduguri. The insurgents had attacked the village on Friday afternoon killing about 20 people.

A senior security official in Maiduguri, on condition of anonymity, said at least 48 insurgents were killed by soldiers who chased them while the former returned to their base in Damboa Town.
The official blamed poor service by telecom networks for the late arrival of soldiers to prevent the Mainok attack.

“Due to the poor telecom network around Mainok town, troops (from 7 Division in Maiduguri) could not get the alert on time, until they (Boko Haram) had attacked and killed some of the traders – about 20 or so – and even stole money and food items from the poor traders”, the official told The Street Journal.

“But as soon as the message got to us, troops arrived Mainok and tracked them towards the direction and were able to intercept them as they were taking some rest or attending to a broken down vehicle.

“It was another tough battle but within hours, our gallant soldiers subdued them, as we counted 48 corpses and recovered several weapons and vehicle abandoned by some few others who fled.”

The handling of the Boko Haram menace had put to question the capability of the Nigeria military to contain insurgency in the country, leading to a big blow on the armed forces’ integrity.

A top government official who spoke with The Street Journal on condition of anonymity said the alleged killing of Shekau by the Cameroon military would further erode whatever remains of the integrity of the Nigeria Army.

He noted with dismay the menace of Boko Haram had caused Nigeria, particularly, in the North Eastern region of the country thousands of lives with properties worth billions of naira destroyed while the military had exhibited helplessness in the fight against the insurgents.

Solynta Energy, a UK registered Solar Energy Company, has launched Abuja’s first solar-powered filling station in Nigeria.

The filling station, Bakka Oil, located along the Lokoja Expressway in Gwagwalada, is only the 2nd ever fully solar powered Filling Station in West Africa. The first of which is Total filling station on Mobolaji Bank - Anthony way, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking about the project, Alh. Abdulrahaman Mohammed, MD of Bakka Oil Nigeria Limited said, “the installation of the Solar Power System has been a great fillip for the Filling Station, as it has lead to a significant reduction in the cost of power, and has made the working environment far better for staff and customers alike.

The noise and fumes from the generator, previously a constant problem has been eliminated completely. ‘Going Solar’ has proved to be a tremendous investment for us, both financially and environmentally.”

The 15 pump Filling Station, which is installed with a 20KWp Solar Power System includes 80 high quality 250 watt mono-crystalline solar panels which are mounted on the roof of the Filling Station. The low maintenance and reliable system makes use of sunlight to save cost and energy.
Also speaking on the new development, Uvie Ugono, Founder & CEO of Solynta Energy stated that the successful installation was just the beginning in transforming Nigeria into the world’s number one Solar Energy country, with a target of 5 million roof mounted PV Solar Power Systems by 2020 across homes and businesses.

Munda wasn’t pleased with her parents’ selection of a groom, saying, “I am not happy with this marriage.”

According to Yahoo news, Munda’s mother was adamant about the need for her daughter to get hitched to the hound named Sheru. The pooch even arrived stylin’ and profilin’ as most grooms often do chauffeured in a car.

Munda’s mother mentioned, “We have to spend money on this wedding. That is the only way we can get rid of her bad luck and ensure the benevolence of the village.”

But luckily, the relationship isn’t legally binding, It’s just a tradition meant to ensure the longevity of a couple’s marriage when Munda is eventually married to a human groom.

Former beauty queen (She won Miss Nigeria UK) Dabota Lawson is engaged and we are so happy for her. The model and actress who is in her 20's got engaged to a billionaire who I hear is old enough to be her dad.
The man is Prince Sunny Aku, the owner of Novena Majesty Furniture and in his 50s. The man who is from Abia State also recently got her one of the latest Range Rovers and owns a private jet.
