Political leaders have been advised to avoid succumbing to the antics of their supporters that could cause disaffection among them in order to eschew bitterness. Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State gave the advice shortly after embracing his predecessor, Chief Rasheed Ladoja in Ibadan on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two political opponents met at the 8th day fidau prayer for late High Chief Omowale Kuye, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland. The governor said, “even when you don’t want to quarrel, your supporters will be inciting you to quarrel. Such is the nature of politics. Politics makes siblings to go against one another. Ajimobi said he was not in any way at loggerheads with Ladoja whom he referred to as his elder brother. The governor said that the bond between him and Ladoja was still intact, despite their political differences. “Politics is a funny game which pitches brothers against brothers, friends against friends and even majority ethnic groups against minority groups. “And this is exactly what has happened between me and my brother, Ladoja. “But honestly, politics apart, there is no personal animosity between us. Ladoja is my brother; I will never fight him’’, he said. NAN recalls that Ladoja, the Accord Party governorship candidate for 2015 election, had challenged the victory of Ajimobi of APC, and lost at both the tribunal and Appeal Court. The governor praised late Kuye, who he described as a role model for anybody who aspires to be successful in any field of human endeavour. He said the deceased was an extremely brilliant, honest and candid man, whose integrity could not be faulted. He urged Priscilla, wife of Kuye, and family members, to take solace in the good legacies he left behind. Ajimobi said Kuye’s great works would surely outlive him. Kuye was a former Federal Director of Budget. (NAN) dailypost.ng/2015/11/27/ajimobi-ladoja-embrace-at-burial-of-olubadans-deputy/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
Premier league giants, Chelsea and Arsenal are battling to secure the signature of 17-year-old attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali following his eye-catching performance during the U-17 World Cup in Chile. According to reports, Chelsea have opened talks with him with Arsenal yet to do so. His agent Klay Ekeocha has also come out to confirm that he is in talks with a number of sides in Europe, including the Blues, as his client is likely to be making a transfer in the near future. “We are in contact with Chelsea, Udinese and Olympiakos,” he said. It was believed that the Gunners were favourites to his signature after he admitted he was keen to play for the club earlier last week. However, his agent also added that he already opened talks with Arsenal, but is yet to receive any sort of reply. “We got in touch with Arsenal and there’s no feedback yet.” Following his performance for Nigeria in the tournament, Nwakali was named Most Valuable Player of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup. Manchester City and West Ham United were also keeping an eye on his services, but later ruled out a move due to problems with his work permit. www.theheraldng.com/chelsea-arsenal-fight-kelechi-nwakali/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned that any person caught crossing the road without using pedestrian bridge in the FCT will be arrested, prosecuted and possibly jailed for three months. Speaking at the 2015 Nigerian Breweries/ Federal Road Safety Corps; ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ road safety campaign held in Abuja yesterday, the FCT corps commander, Sunday Oghenekaro said sub-regulations (10) and (11) of the National Road Traffic Regulation (NRTR) 2012 empowers the corps to arrest any defaulter of the pedestrian bridge and such person is liable on conviction to a fine of N2000.00 or to a term of three months imprisonment or both. The corps commander also noted that it is unwise and unsafe to combine alcohol with driving, warning against driving under influence as it is unsafe, affects the vision, judgement, reduces coordination and slows down reactions. Ahead of the festive season and the travelling that is involved, corps commander Oghenekaro warned drivers against overloading, dangerous overtaking, distracted driving (making or receiving calls) and excessive speeding, as anyone caught violating these rules will be prosecuted accordingly. While speaking on the repeated sponsoring of the programme, the representative of the Nigerian Breweries, Vivian Ikem noted that though the firm produces alcoholic drinks, it values the lives of its customers to that of the profits of the shareholders. https://www.today.ng/news/national/43910/failure-to-use-pedestrian-bridge-to-attract-3-months-jail-term-frsc?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
UN Women/United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women has said from the statistics available that only 3 per cent of adolescent girls complete their secondary education in the Northern Nigeria. Speaking at the Planning/Review Meeting with Media Partners in Jos, Plateau State, the Deputy Programme Manager, UN Women, Peter Mancha, said in the North West and North East regions that only about 20per cent of women are literate. Mancha blamed high rate of poverty and ignorance as being responsible for this ugly development, as some parents of these drop-out girls do not understand the value of education. He also identified culture and traditions that have restricted women from going to school, adding that such obnoxious culture should be jettisoned by various communities to promote girl-child education. The Deputy Programme Manager urged the parents to look beyond the immediate benefits they derive by not sending their children especially the girl child, noting women and girls should be encouraged and supported to be literate for socio-economic development of the region. Commenting on the programme tagged “Promoting Women Engagement in Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria, which is a project being funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women, Mancha explained that a baseline survey has been carried out in the three pilot States of Adamawa, Gombe and Plateau where the project is being implemented. https://www.today.ng/news/national/43904/only-3-adolescent-girls-in-northern-nigeria-complete-secondary-school-un?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

CountDracula:and do you think if they wanna give every unemployed Bro and Sis 5k it can't get stuck in some senators or governors pocket. at th junction am no longer waiting for gov appointment but I think if this government want to be more serious it's preferable and more save to create job with 7b. with our present economy problem. giving out 7.5b every month will do us more evil than good. |
CountDracula:I don't agree with Alfa but I want to let you know that the 5k can be used to create job, am not in support of this program ever since APC manifesto. if this thing didn't turn out like the past surep where the only loyal party members will benefit from it. let's just agree that APC are sincere with this promise and they wanna pay about 1.5millons unemployed youth, how much will that cost them in a month?that would be like 7.5b just imagine if fg pump half of that into skill acquisition not to talk of agriculture and monitor it. ok let's just agree that they didn't divert into employment. they decided to be paying 1.5m people 7b in a month how much will that cost fg in a year?isnt that a waste of resources cos I don't know how 5k will influence a grown up man in a month. it can't even feed my fowls in a week. this a lame Idea. |
