Last year no doubt, was a tough year, for me and most people I know. Despite this, something kept me laughing through the sad times…memes! Yes, memes. Wikipedia defines memes as; "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture. A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme". Memes are the reason why sometimes, when I pull out my phone in a public place or in a public transport, I laugh all by myself. I try to contain this laughter as best as possible so people don’t think I’m nuts |
I shared a video I found recently on my Instagram. It’s a story about two twin brothers who grew up with an alcoholic father who would always get drunk and beat up their mother. img_20170108_084001_937.jpg One grew up to be a drunk just like his father, when asked about his life out turn, he said, “I watched my father”. img_20170108_083921_065.jpg The other brother grew up to be a responsible person, never indulging in drinking, when asked about his life out turn, he said, ” I watched my father “. img_20170108_084030_880.jpg Two persons exposed to the same conditions but different outcomes. So what was the reason for the different outcome? The mind! Yes, the mind has everything to do with it. How you think, how you process your thoughts, all consciously and non-consciously affects your actions and life’s decisions. It doesn’t matter the environment you grew up in, it shouldn’t be the deciding factor for your future or how you end up in life. Recall, they’ve been several persons who grew up with little or no privileges, deep down somewhere in a ghetto but today, live a successful and prosperous life. The rose seed planted in a refuse dump site still buds and grows into a rose flower. It doesn’t matter the life conditions you grew up in, the situations you were constantly exposed to. It doesn’t matter if you were abused (in any way) growing up, don’t let that depict you future! All that happened can’t rule you, you are the master of your own life, you have your own story to write and your own success to talk about. Will you say what happened to you stopped you? No way! You are far better than that, you are worth way higher to be put down. Don’t let circumstances determine your future. Reset your thinking today, the power is in your mind. Whether you’re fully motivated or not, you’ll still get back into the work groove in no time anyway. You’ll be fine! ☺ |
Now that the holidays are finally over, you have to think of getting back to work or school, not so easy when your whole being has been in rest mode. So just how do you get all motivated and be in work mode again. Let’s see some. 1) Think about the rewards of your work: You know your work helps you pay the bills. You really want to earn your usual income or monthly take home. This motivation is a no brainer, plan to go back to work. Bills 2) Rearrange your space: Think about giving your work space a make-over, change somethings to make and mark a new start. Restructure the settings, take away unwanted materials and make your workspace a breathe of freshair. 3) Think about your office crush: If nothing seems to motivate you to resume after the holidays, then think of your office crush you probably didn’t see all through the holidays. |

It’s almost time for that “New year, new me” posts that floods your timeline. This time of the year, almost everyone wants to make that decision to start something new or be a better version of themselves (we all do) but taking all the right steps is all that matters. 1) Keep it Realistic: Don’t come up with ridiculous resolutions. Let’s be frank, aside a miracle, you can’t buy a brand new car and own a new mansion in 2017 when you earn very low income, all in the space of 12 months. Yes, it is okay to dream and your resolution has to be something that triggers you on a daily, then again, don’t make “outer space” kind of resolution. Keep it real. 2) Connect it with your Aspirations: Linking your new year’s resolutions to your Life’s aspirations is one sure way of finding strength and inspiration. Your aspiration is your ultimate life goal. Think of those things you desire most in life and use it to drive your new year’s resolution. 3) Have a (Bad ass) Plan!: If your plan doesn’t make you laugh like a villain in a movie, then something’s not right : ) I mean, your plan has to be ‘genius’ enough to make you say ‘Damn!’. It should make you jump off your seat and say, ‘Yes!’ You need to come up with a step-by-step strategic plan to actualise your new year’s resolutions (or any plan for that matter) 4) Be willing to be flexible: Sometimes, our new year’s resolutions are made based on emotions. The truth is, these resolutions are not set in stone. Somethings can happen in the new year that can cause you to make certain changes or make a certain turn. Stick to your core plan, be flexible to changes but don’t go off track! 5) Act and Review: After coming up with your strategic plan, you have to start working on it immediately. I recommend you paste this plan/vision/resolution somewhere you can see it everyday, so each time you look at it, you get reminded and it pushes you to work. You really don’t want your new year’s resolution to be your next year’s new year resolution. Start acting, your times starts…now! |

6) Avoid Oversized accessories: A short girl carrying an oversize handbag looks like a child helping her mother carry her handbag or her foodstuff bag from the market. Carry accessories that are in proportion to your size. Extra Tip: Avoid wearing fat belts, opt for slim belts instead to give you a slender, hence taller look.
|
5) Wear V-necks: A plunging V-neckline will help elongated your upper body and make your look talle
|
4) Hair’s got to do with it. Your hairdo plays a role in your overall appearance. To look taller, avoid overly full, extra long, thick curly hair. A hairdo that shows off your neckline and shoulder will make you look leaner and tall
|
3) Opt for a Mono-shade Wearing an entire outfit of one basic colour gives a taller silhouette, for example, when you wear a dark top, with a dark trousers, an observer seeing this dark shade from shoulder to torso to thighs, down to the feet, will get the impression of a taller frame.
|
2) Wear Vertical stripes One way of creating an illusion of a taller appearance is to wear clothings with long standing lines as this gives an impression of more length to your actual height. For example, when you wear a vertically striped shirt, an observer sees more length on your torso. You would definitely want to incorporate vertically striped pieces into your wardrobe when next you go shopping.
|
Let’s get straight to it. 1) Wear heels: We all know this is the simplest trick in the book but take into consideration the type of shoes/heels. Avoid wearing chunky heels as it will make you look stumpy, instead, opt for slim, narrow heels. An extra tip is to wear heels with nude colour, this will make your legs look longer.

“It’s no doubt that having an attractive height can help a lot with your confidence but nature may not be fair to us all as some people are, well, “down to earth”’ Last time on ‘How to dress to look taller’, we saw some fashion tips for guys to achieve this. Today, we’ll look at tips the ladies can employ to look taller.

Earlier this week, I was at a HR office and I witnessed first hand, the dialogue between the HR manager and a potential employee. “How much do we pay you?”, said the HR manager. “Pay me what you have on your payscale”, replied the interviewee, sounding unsure. I have not realised how dumb and unprofessional this reply is till I heard him utter them. Going for an interview with a company, you should have at least done a background check (including their payscale) This shows you have done your homework. You should reply with the sum you feel is worth your service(s). While it doesn’t mean that the figure you suggest will end up being what you’re paid, establishing a ground for negotiation gives you some level of authority. Of course, if you are changing your job, it is only right to suggest a sum that is higher than that of your previous or current job. Be smart about it, being overly demanding or too insisting will come off as rude. Convince the HR manager that you truly deserve to be paid the right sum. I wish you Good luck. thankgodeboh:This is very nice and meaningful write-up, OP. However, I wouldn't totally agree that we Nigerian Youths are our own "PROBLEM" (especially not in capital letter) There are lots of youths out there striving hard to make it- trying to set up something for themselves, there are youths out there with really creative and innovative ideas (that can move this country forward) but the situation in the country makes it terribly difficult for them, a conducive platform just isn't there. The problem is in the system- the leadership. What I think the Nigerian youths need to do is STAND UP (not only when it's time for voting or snatching boxes or beating up a couple of people during elections). The youths have to stand up and have a place and a say in government. |
Hi guys, there's a new platform that let's you obtain items for FREE whenever you are in need. This is a new "E-charity" innovation which allows you to view available items ranging from clothing to books to foodstuffs to household items and more, and express your need for them. Imagine an OLX website where you get uploaded items...for FREE! These donated items were uploaded by charitable individuals so if you have items you no longer have a need for, why not upload it today? there's someone out there who really needs them. Also, you can refer people who you know are in need of the (available) items on the site or you can choose to pick it up on their behalf and give to them. Be sure to select items whose giveaway location is closest to you. Items collection should be done in a public area (e.g mall) and in daylight. We love Osita! |
Two things came to mind- it’s either this dog is an actual horse or Osita is having a reversal growth to toddler height! Try out these tips, look in the mirror, see the difference and go out and strut in style! (I’ll be back with the girl version- HOW TO DRESS TO LOOK TALL- FOR SHORT GIRLS) |
Bonus Tip: When taking pictures, be wary of the object you stand next to, so you don’t sell yourself short (pun intended) For example, posting a photo of you standing next to a water dispenser when your head isn’t up to the bottle or posing next to a flower pot where the highest leaf is taller than you just sends a message that you are indeed, very short. And most certainly, don’t post a photo of you standing next to your pet that for some odd reason, happens to be taller than you, like our dear Osita Iheme, posing next to his giant dog.

4) Hats Off! A very short person wearing a hat can somehow look like a 35cl coke bottle with the crown on top, for this reason, I wouldn’t recommend a hat, however, wearing a hat gives a more mature look which is something a short person would want (they don’t want to be mistaken for a child) -so between not looking short and looking mature, make your pick. |
3) Get a Sole! How many of you know that famous actor ,Tom Cruise, is only 5’7″ but in the movie, ‘Knight and Day’, where he starred with Cameron Diaz, 5’10”, the pair stood next to each other, shoulder to shoulder! How did they accomplish this? Easy, give Tom the sole, give Cameron the flats! It’s a no-brainer that a pair of shoes with a thick sole (and heel) can instantly add several inches to your height but do you know that there’s also something called an “inner sole”? An inner sole is implanted INSIDE the shoes, this way, a regular 2-inches heeled shoe has an additional 1.5-inches sole padded inside. You can get a shoe-maker to customize one for you, this is a secret known only to celebrities (Shh!)
|
2) Opt for a Mono-shade Wearing an entire outfit of one basic colour gives a taller silhouette, for example, when you wear a dark suit, with an inner dark shirt and a dark trousers, an observer seeing this dark shade from shoulder to torso to thighs, down to the feet, will get the impression of a taller frame.
