National leader of the All Progressives Congress APC and Presidential hopeful, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said he has confidence in becoming Nigeria’s President in 2023 not minding a Muslim being his running mate if he is given the opportunity.
Tinubu said this while assuring leaders of thought in the northern part of the country last weekend.
He said they should leave the task of convincing the Yoruba to him if selected by his APC party to carry the banner of the party in the 2023 elections.
The issue of who will be his running mate according to our sources became a major issue.
They told him flatly they will not accept a Christian northerner to be his running mate.
He was said to have promised to pick a Northwest politician who will be a Muslim. It was then a prominent politician and former governor asked him how that will be taken in the South.
According to ObservesTimes, the APC leader told his guests that the South East and South South who are largely Christians will not matter.
It is the South West, he was quoted to have said, that could raise issues but he will manage that and they will not mind.
Tinubu, at the meeting was said to have argued that the vote of the North West, North East, some largely Muslim states in the North Central as well as South West were enough to make him President.
“All I need is your support,” he was quoted as saying.
“Leave the rest to me, I will handle it.” His guests were said not to have been convinced by his assurance as no regime in the country since independence has governed with both head and deputy as Muslims.
It is believed that come February, the party APC, under which he want to seek the office is most certain to pick a Muslim Chairman from the North Central part of the country.
Aspirants for this position are already emerging from Niger, Kwara and Nasarawa states. These candidates are all Muslims.
If Tinubu therefore emerges as APC candidate and picks a Muslim candidate from the North West it means all of the important positions in the party are held by Muslims to the exclusion of the Christians.
Part of the argument of the pro -Tinubu elements is that this has happened before when the late billionaire Muslim Aare Moshood Abiola selected Alhaji Babagana Kingibe as his running mate.
One of the northern leaders present at the meeting said, while this is true, that time is different from now.
There are all manners of tensions in the land and the security of the nation is fragile.
If anybody does that now it will be like deliberately setting the country on fire. “ The IPOB issue is still raging in the South East, young elements are restless in the SW and calling for Oodua Republic, banditry , Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency has enveloped the North.
Why would anyone want to add religious crisis to it”, he asked.
“Only a non patriot will experiment with this. I told him my mind.

Tinubu recently paid a ‘plea’ visit to the All Progress Congress, APC, lawmakers in support for his presidential bid.
Those who expected that the Asiwaju Tinubu’s presidential campaign would be an unrelenting distribution of raw cash along the way, may not be wrong after all. But don’t tell that to the members of the ruling APC caucus who received the former Lagos State Governor.
Two days ago, Wednesday March 16, 2022, the All Progressives Congress caucus in the House of Representatives received the former Governor but now they could be heard expressing disappointment that what they were given as “kolanut” for the meeting was disappointing.
Some members of the National Assembly who confirmed this to Quest Times said “most members expected at least $10,000 each, so there is some sense of disappointment that Reps got only $2,000 and Senators got only $3,000.”
A member who was disgusted by the whole thing said “the shameless way some of the NASS members especially Representatives were complaining that they expected more from Asiwaju is so bad, coming from elected representatives of the Nigerian people.”
Media reports had relayed that Tinubu visited the National Assembly to address the APC caucus in the Senate and House, and got a voice endorsement during the House of Representatives meeting.
The meeting with the Senators didn’t have such a ringing endorsement however, but some of the members may have been attracted to the meeting and joined the “voice endorsement” in the hope for at least $10k.
“But now, some of them are feeling short-changed, even though they collected their portions of the medium dollar rain.”
This is not the first time that a consultation meeting by Asiwaju and the attendant sharing of cash will leave behind it sour tales. It happened not too long ago when the former governor visited traditional rulers in Ekiti and Ondo states not too long ago. How Tinubu’s Naira rain tears apart Ondo Monarchs In Ondo State specifically, the cash left behind “a wide gulf between the minority Class A kings and the majority 130 Crowns in the Sunshine State, who belong to the B and C grades.” According to a journalist from the state; “the Presidential aspirant and former Governor of Lagos State famous for keeping cash in bullion vans, Tinubu brought sacks of Naira as homage to the royal fathers in their domains. His entourage’s first port of call was Ondo South Senatorial District, where they met the Obas at an Events Centre in Okitipupa. Below is the narration from the journalist: After exchanging pleasantries and declaring his intention to contest the 2023 Presidential Election, Tinubu’s aides were said to have rolled in millions of Naira notes stacked in Ghana-Must-Go bags, for the kings to share. N30m was allocated to each of the three senatorial political zones. Whereas things went according to plan under the supervision of HRM Olugbo in the South, what obtained in Central and North Senatorial Districts were outright row and chaos. A cold war indeed! In Akure, 18 Monarchs met Tinubu in the Palace of the Deji of Akure, but only 3 of them are Grade A while 15 are in B and C categories. Surprisingly, we learnt from insiders that only a meagre N5m was doled out to the 15 rulers to share while the chunk was kept by the few three senior monarchs. To worsen the situation, no information on the actual largesse was given to the second class Obas. Rage then set in and the N5m offered, by a popular politician in Ondo State, was reportedly dumped at the doorstep of the Paramount ruler of Akure land, the Deji. The protesting royals were said to have staged a walk out without collecting the money.
A similar ugly incident transpired in the North Senatorial District meeting held in Owo, where monarchs converged on the Palace of the new Olowo of Owo. The 7 Grade A Obas present were said to have outsmarted the 26 B and C kings, who were blocked from knowing what transpired between the August Visitor and the royals. At the end of the day, after Team Tinubu had left, a paltry sum of N5.7m was dished out by the Coordinating Grade A Oba Olowo, to the 26 representatives of the lower cadre royals. Having failed to disclose the total monetary gift from the Lagos frontline politician, anger got the best of the cheated Grade B and C Obas, who politely declined collecting their own ‘share’ of ‘Tinubu’s cake.’ Efforts were made to settle the matter equitably and fairly, in order to keep the issue off the public domain.

Brownpiro: Nigeria Youngest Presidential Candidate met with His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Alh Aminu Ado Bayero on Thursday the 17th.
The Sarki Kano was pleased to receive him and his team in his palace. The place was filled with so much excitement and glamor as they received the deligates.
In his speech to the Emir he expressed and shared his vision of Nigeria with him. The vision of Nigeria with justice and equity - one that her people are prosperous. He further explained why he is running for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In the same context he also asked that he use his good office and influence to ensure the way the system has sidelined young people from contesting positions could be changed.
In response, His Highness, Alh Aminu Ado Bayero expressed that he was pleased about the visit and wished him well. He also gave counsel that as the youths are seeking to take up leadership positions, they should not neglect elderly counsel. He mentioned that many elders of today played active roles in some of the good things we see in Nigeria today. That we should learn to consult them and not label all of them as bad. He however noted that it is true that some of the elders had let the people down.
Towards the end of the meeting, the Presidential Candidate personally presented a gift of "gangan" drum - the Yoruba cultural talking drum to His Highness, the Emir of Kano. The Emir then reciprocated by presenting him with an official palace souvenir.

President Muhammadu Buhari is a man that had been serially de-marketed, flagellated and excoriated as a religious bigot. It was a narrative deliberately concocted and conjured by those who were afraid of the probity and integrity he could bring into public office. They tarred him with the brush of bigotry, which hindered the man from attaining the presidency for a long while.
But every lie has an expiry date. A time came when the public no longer bought the jejune argument. Pro-Buhari forces fought back vigorously. One of them was eminent virologist, Prof Tam David-West (God rest his soul). He wrote a book with the title ‘16 Sins of Muhammadu Buhari,’ in which he debunked the lies being told against the former military head of state. One of them was the allegation of being a religious bigot.
A larger number of Nigerians got to understand that the bigotry tag was fake, false, an attempt to give the dog a bad name, in order to hang it. Muhammadu Buhari coasted to office as President in 2015, after three earlier trials.
But there is still a remnant that maintains its entrenched position. And they are the ones who look down on us Christians, for going to “work with a Fulani Muslim, a jihadist who does not want to see Christians at all.” True? False.
Who else can you trust more than the man (or woman) that cooks or serves your meal? Possibly nobody. Buhari has Christian cooks, male and female.
And who can you also trust more than the man that drives you? He can decide to do bad, bad things to you. Buhari has Christian drivers.
I was glad to hear Vice President ‘Yemi Osinbajo touch on the matter early this week. While receiving Senegal-based Grand Khalifa of Tijaniya Movement Worldwide, Sheikh Muhammadu Mahi Ibrahim Niass, he said in seven years of working with President Buhari, he has not had any issues with him, particularly in the area of religion.
Said the Vice President: “President Buhari is a serious Muslim, and I am a pastor. Both of us have worked together for about 7 years, we have not had any issues. The President has shown great leadership, he has shown that he wants a country where people of different faiths live in harmony and with love for one another.”
Well spoken, well proven. And I have stories to tell to buttress what VP Osinbajo has said.
Just two weeks ago, someone who was in the inner caucus when President Buhari was putting together his team in 2015, told me a story. It went this way:
“When the President likes you, he just likes you. I remember in 2015, when they brought three names to him as possible media advisers. They were made of Christians and Muslims. He just brought out his pen, and marked your name. That was all.”
A media adviser is in the inner caucus. You can see your boss whenever you want to, and that was what the President told me the very day I resumed: “Adesina, ensure that nobody keeps you away from me. Whenever you want to see me, just come.”
Bigot? He won’t give such position or latitude to a person of different faith.
Early in the first term, one of my spiritual fathers passed on. Rev Cornelius Obasi had taken keen interest in me as a young man growing up in the Foursquare Gospel Church in Lagos. That was in the 1980s.
He was the Assistant Pastor of the branch I attended in Omole area. The main pastor was Rev Felix Meduoye, who later went on to become General Overseer of the Church for many years.
I had completed National Service, was working as a Current Affairs Officer in Radio Lagos. But I never joked with church services, and soon became a teacher in the Sunday School.
One day, after service, Rev Obasi called me. “Brother Femi, you speak good English. Who are you really?” I told him about myself, and thus began a lifelong friendship.
When he passed on (was it late 2015 or 2016?), a two days funeral was being organized. And I wanted to attend, to pay my last respects. So I went to meet the President.
I asked him for two days off, and told him why I needed it. A religious bigot would never hear of such. But not President Buhari. He told me: “I am happy that you’ve decided to go and give last honors to such a man. Please go. We will be here till you return.” And that winsome smile.
When I returned to Abuja, I went to see him again, to say I was back. He welcomed me, and said something I’ll never forget.
“Adesina (he prefers to call me by my surname), I want to thank you for going to honour a man who contributed to bringing you up spiritually. God will give you lada for it.”
I thanked him and left. But lada, what does it mean?
I sought out my friend, Garba Deen Mohammed, now NNPC spokesman. What does lada mean? I told him the story. He laughed, and explained that lada means reward, or wages. He said the President was praying that God will reward me for attending the burial of Rev Cornelius Obasi.
A bigot? I hear.
Our first Christmas in government. December 2015. I wanted to spend the season in Lagos. And I asked him for permission. By all means, he answered. “I know the Vice President, yourself, and some others are church people. Please go. Spend Christmas and New Year with your families. When you now come back, me too I’ll go for a few days.” And he laughed. Bigot? They never want to hear of Christmas. Since 2015, he would give all Christians working with him time off every Easter and Christmas. I like that kind of ‘bigotry.’
When the Foursquare Gospel Church turned 60 years in Nigeria. I told the President, and he gladly agreed to meet with the leadership. He did. Bigot? Please tell me another story.
The Vice President survived an helicopter crash in 2019. The President publicly rejoiced with him, and then at the next Federal Executive Council meeting, he congratulated the VP again. Jocularly, he said: “I can imagine that when the chopper crashed with a bang, VP as a pastor must have shouted, Jesus!Jesus! Jesus! And fortunately, Jesus was not far away, so He saved him.”
We all laughed. But one instructive lesson. Bigots don’t like Jesus. They never want to hear His name, or attribute anything miraculous to Him. Buhari, a bigot? I beg, comot for road, make I pass.
It is said that as a military commander, he gave opportunity for Muslim soldiers to observe the jumat on Fridays, and Christian soldiers were allowed to go to church on Sundays. A bigot would allow Muslims, and pretend that Christians didn’t exist.
As the administration winds down (in 14 months) I pray for grace to be able to document my experiences with this President. People would then realize how unfair they’ve been to him. A man more sinned against, rather than sinning.
