Thanks Kaima2015. Problem is that my research area is offered in only a few universities. I am targeting those few universities and they all require above average GRE scores.

what is your area of research? you might get through...you should get a faculty member as a research advisor and who would likely sit on the graduate review committee because when shove comes to shove he or she can push your case through...good luck

I really can do this PhD and I don't want this yeye test to mar my chances. 162Q can't cover for both bad V and AW. I would not be so worried if I scored a 4 in AW. Ah!!!! But I don't want to rewrite that bloody exam if I don't have to. But there is just no way to tell.

I have been working towards writing both the GRE and TOEFL by the end of September...

I have almost all the materials needed for the GRE in port harcourt.

The package includes soft copies of the following: Barron, Princeton Review, ETS Official guide, Manhattan 8booklets and the heavy Premium Magoosh videos.

Nothing yet on the TOEFL, might start gathering stuffs from tonight. We will definitely survive.

Are you going for MSc or PhD?...For PhD most schools can waive TOEFL for you......even the most stringent can ask for an English Certificate of which WAEC will do

wonderful book by Professor Julie Posselt "Inside Graduate Admissions".....a most read for international students

this book came out this year....you can download her PhD Thesis Work (2013) which is free online.....what she wrote in the New Book came from that study

Thanks @ DanjaNinja....I strongly believe we Nigerians can make it.....with a combined score of 320 plus and an AWA score of 5.0, you are good to go for a PhD admission and full scholarship......for most Ivy League schools this is all they require (they usually place a very strong emphasis on the GRE) and a CGPA of at least 3.5/4.0

There is this wonderful book by Professor Julie Prosselt "Inside Graduate Admissions".....a most read for international students ...where she interviewed several Graduate Admission Commitees on the criteria they use to select students.....and do you know that Graduate Admission Committees place a preference for Minorities (Blacks, Africans etc) and American students?....they use the same standard for these two groups and use a higher standard for the Chinese and Indians (because some ""believe"" they cheat )

except you download it using utorrent...it is a heavy file (1.4G).....you have to install a software called Bitlord on your PC etc

Upgrade to Manhattan, Nova and magoosh ma... + use Google to search or use the nairaland search box to search the education page you'll surely see them

My two cents.....to make high scores on the GRE (to ace it)....start with the Magoosh videos, watch all 280 plus videos to ""learn"" the tricks in the GRE...then move to the Nova Math Bible (if you dont have this you can use Manhattan) or Princeton and then use the Barron for the Verbal Section.....for the Analytical Section I also recommend an ebook authored by Mark Alan Stewart ""Answers to the Real Essay Questions of the GRE"".....the whole essays...it is a current book...and GRE will select an essay question from Essay Pool on their website......you can save time with this on test day....if you read the book from cover to cover

@sir Riddy...thanks very much for doing a great job on this forum....more kudos......for 4 pointers...it is strongly advised (as mentioned by sir Riddy) that you apply for the PhD route (which is normally 5 years) and only (IMO) apply to schools that can fully fund your PhD programs .....top schools can....and try to ACE the GRE....there are very good materials that can help...also join some GRE forums and look at testimonies of those that aced the exam (these indians and chinese sef!)...and learn what they did and did not good.....wishing you all the very best!

It is funny how people think and limit themselves with their minds. I am a graduate of plant Biology and Biotechnology from the university of benin and I don't have regrets. Currently, Biotechnology is being merged with pharmacy. As an undergrad, u get to do some pharmaceutical and medical courses. The areas open for specialization are medical/pharmaceutical biotech, industrial biotech, Agricultural biotech, and Environmental biotech. Presently Biotechnology is paving ways in the medical field and as a biotechologist u can further in the field of Medicine/pharmacology. Moreover, these courses were once small until people made them matter. The problem with Nigerians is that we are myopic and do not envision the future. Bro, if ur mind isn't centred on it then do not even accept the admission. Sit for anoda jamb. I chose the course myself. And before any one starts blaming it on age/constant delay of admission, I got into school early enough, made a gpa of 4.4.....and at almost 24years old have served and currently waiting to further in Biotechnology and Molecular medicine. Talk of production of antibiotics, hormones etc, biotechologist are at the fore front to mention a few. I know first hand that it isn't useless, it becomes useless only if the individual lets it. why ask for $5 to do a test....have you heard that before?

they claim to be in their 8th year of grant with a website that is less than a year old!!

presence on facebook with only 44 likes!!!.....and only showing activity for this year!!


it is a scam!!!
