Super-structure is to provide support in the construction of the building as per designed plan and various members of super-structure such as columns and beams are designed to provide strength for carrying the dead load and live load expected to come on the various parts of the structure in a safe and well-distributed manner. Also, Blockwork is constructed up to the roof level( for a bungalow) or first floor slab (for a storey-structure) as the case may be.

Foundation: The excavated area needs to be well compacted by a Hand Compactor before blinding takes place. Blinding is the pouring of concrete of a particular mix ratio( usually 1:3:6 or 1:4:8 depending on the type of project) on the excavated trench to receive foundation.
Then hollow sandcrete blocks usually between 2-3 courses are laid before German floor is done

Excavation of Trench
This involves digging trenches to receive the foundation of the structure. Regarding the drawing’s defined lengths and widths, excavation should be carried out. Depending on the depth and composition of the subsurface, suitable machines are used to excavate the earth. For regularly smaller structures, we use manual digging tools

Setting out- The land to be used for the proposed building needs to be set out. This is done to define accurately, the outline and width of excavation. It is necessary to mark the area of land that needs to be used as designed by the Architect. The information in the drawing needs to be transferred to the ground where the building will be situated.

Note: The drawing must be sealed by a registered Architect

3. There may be need to provide a structural drawing especially if the structure to be built is a multi-storey structure/duplex/framed building/sky scrapper etc. That can only be provided by a Structural Engineer

4. To be able to manage effectively the cost implication of the proposed structure, a client should consult a registered Quantity Surveyor (cost estimator) to give a detailed costing of the entire elements of the building from the foundation level to roof level. This will ensure you to have a clear view of how the project is going to span when the budget have been adequately put in place.

5. If it is a big project (not a residential building), the services of service Engineers (Mechanical and Electrical) is needed since the piping and electrical system will be run systematically for those kind of projects.
