Suspected bandits Wednesday killed at least 12 people in an attack at a tea joint at Badarawa village in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Residents told Daily Trust that the armed men stormed the village around 8:30pm shooting indiscriminately at those in the area. A resident, who simply identified himself as Ahmad, said he narrowly escaped death as no sooner did he leave the joint than the bandits arrived at the place. “I went to the tea joint with my tumbler and I was served the tea and a loaf of bread. Initially, I decided to take the tea there, later, I changed my mind and went back home which is very close to the place. “Just three minutes after I had left the place and entered my house, I heard something like a gunshot, I listened attentively and heard another gunshot for the second time, then I came to thes conclusion that we were under attack. “My wife then advised me to lock the house. The sound of gunshots rented the air and there was pandemonium outside. People were running to different directions in order to escape,” he added. He said after the attackers had fled, 12 bodies were found at the scene and its surroundings. The spokesman of Operation Sharan Daji in the state, Major CK Abiade, who confirmed the incident. He said the troops were on an assessment tour to the place. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/bandits-kill-12-at-zamfara-village.html |

The immediate past national publicity secretary of the APC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has declared his intention to contest for the 2019 governorship position in Kwara State on the platform of the PDP. Abdullahi, who stated this at a ceremony in Ilorin, yesterday, said his administration would be pro-youth. He said part of his goals as governor is to empower youth in the state for growth, competitiveness and economic transformation. Abdullahi, who dismissed arguments by opponents on the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki’s leadership style, said Saraki had rather empowered young people from poor background like him, who ordinarily would not have had a shot at public office. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/bolaji-abdullahi-declares-for-kwara-govship.html |

Oil and gas mogul, Tonye Dele Cole, says he will leverage on his business contacts to attract local and international investments to Rivers State if elected as the governor of the state in the 2019 polls. He also promised to ensure wealth is distributed to the grassroots and the rural poor when he becomes the state governor. The co-founder of Sahara Group, who recently resigned his appointment to contest the Rivers Governorship seat told journalists in Abuja on Wednesday that one of the critical incentives he will provide to investor is to secure their businesses by enabling conducive business environment. Cole, who also submitted his APC nomination forms today, said he also intends to restore hope among the Rivers people. “First of all, we need to make sure that Rivers people never lose hope because they are a great nation and great people. Wealth distribution among the grassroot people is extremely vital and that is something that I want to make sure that everybody in Rivers at the grassroot who have been down, who has been impoverished, who does not have peace and security are taken care of. These are things they can get again,” he assured. On investments, he said from an industry perspective, one of the things investors look at is the quality of governance as that can attract them to the state for business. Also “for them to come, apart from the global investment that we have the capacity to bring, they also need to be sure that their investment is secure and rule of law is respected. These are things that I have realized that can guarantee what we want to achieve,” he said. “I have been operating at the global level. I travel a lot. I have worked with a lot of people and people know me for doing business with passion and business is about personal relationship,” he stated. “We believe that we can attract investors and we believe that we can secure investment in Rivers State, rule of law will be protected and they would be able to generate employment for the people of the state” he said. On security, he said “security is a relationship thing as well, it has to deal with people because people who perpetrate crime and bring insecurity are human beings like you and I. “One of the things that we are going to do is to engage with them wholly to make them understand what the outcome is as it affects them, not just their families but as it affects their communities,” he noted. He also expressed confidence that the APC will chase out PDP from Rivers State. “Nigeria was a PDP state for a long time and now that has changed and change is a constant thing,” he said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/i-will-attract-investors-to-rivers-distribute-wealth-at-grassroots-says-tonye-cole.html |
