The desire of Nigerians to travel abroad (eg. Canada) is receiving great attention. No thanks to our unfriendly atmosphere due to insecurity, poverty, inadequate healthcare, epileptic power supply and unemployment. We try to blame only our political leaders and leave out our religious leaders (touch not!). We fail to acknowledge that these politicians seek endorsement from them. Despite our religiosity, we are very eager to travel to less religious but advanced countries. It is even embarrassing to the extent of sharing emigration testimonies. Canadians developed Canada, who will develop ours? We cannot leave everything to government alone. How many of us can boast of health insurance in case of health complications? Are we not tired of having more worship centers than hospitals, factories etc. If our religious leaders will also invest heavily in manufacturing and healthcare sectors, maybe unemployment rate and avoidable deaths will reduce. In the bible, it was convenient for the farmers to bring in Tithe at end of harvest. They don't think about house rent, nepa bill, school fees and other responsibilities. I am not against paying of tithe, if you can afford it, but make sure you have a personal property, profitable investments and health insurance. Be a cheerful giver, not out of intimidation, compulsion or expectation. |
shullamite:Daily income expectation is bound to default/fail once a while. Monthly expectation is better. |
Aconomist:At least let's boast of local production and job creation for now instead of importation. Only the big players can survive in Nigeria's manufacturing sector. Just like the days of MTN monopoly is over, that of Dangote will soon be over too. Permit me to divert into oil refining, electricity, health care, education and agriculture. Oil refining: Economy sabotage through corruption & fuel importation subsidy made NNPC and oil importers to frustrate the resurrection of our refineries. Electricity: Economy sabotage through corruption, generator import business, estimated billing and refusal to circulate prepaid meters. Healthcare: Economy sabotage through foreign hospital patronage by celebrities, politicians and elites. Education:Same as health sector. Agriculture: Economy sabotage through smuggling, foreign goods patronage, hoarding/exportation by local farmers for more profit instead of meeting local demands. |
Wholesale/Depot price of Dangote cement is #2500. We have other cement brands in Nigeria. Dangote cement is just a favourite choice. Generally, we like to exploit/oppress ourselves as Nigerians (NIN as case study). However, the price of imported cement several years ago would have doubled from around #1800 to around #3600, due to our weak naira exchange rate to dollar. |
The Trinity Square Insecurity, Poverty and Unemployment. Exploitation, Sabotage and Embezzlement. |
Our problem is multi-faceted. China and India started with patronising homemade 'inferior' goods and services. They learnt from their mistakes, and moved on to improve every sector. Unfortunately our leaders and celebrities don't patronise made in Nigeria. Our taste for foreign goods and services killed our education, healthcare and manufacturing sectors. Thus, reduction in employment opportunities for our youths. We desire a working system but indirectly destroy our own. We mostly perform well in systems we don't fully control. |
The citizens will still queue behind exploiters, looters & deceivers in 2023. Oh God of creation! Help our youth, the truth to know. Any politician that patronizes foreign education, healthcare, goods and services cannot be trusted to develop the critical sectors that will help Nigeria grow. |

The middle class in any society is regarded as ‘the salt of life’. Without it, society decays. Often made up of youths with university degrees, they constitute the bulk of bureaucrats, professionals including doctors, lawyers, journalists, university teachers, accountants, engineers etc. It carries the awesome responsibility of designing and constructing the roads we traverse, the dams that supply our drinking water, finding solution to physical and psychological ailments and determining the quality of the education our children receive. In return for their immeasurable services to humanity, all it ever asks for its highly trained members are freedom and security to plan their lives, own houses even if through mortgage, receive non-slave wages that guarantee a decent living and ability to send their children to good schools with some savings for their old age. Some of our uninformed ministers who today celebrate $24b diaspora funds, while ignoring the repatriation of over $25b as profit back to the west by multinationals share the same mind-set with our forebears who traded our middle class for mirrors, spirits and horses during slavery, a synonym for globalization. Unfortunately, some of our round pegs in square holes of ministers only provide additional incentive for our qualified professionals to flee the country. https://thenationonlineng.net/politicians-and-middle-class-exodus/ |

I don't have issues with Nigerian religious leaders or proliferation of worship centers. I am only concerned about the increase in moral decadence and abominable acts within and without. I wish we could proliferate our country with factories and primary healthcare centers, instead of worship centers, hotels, bars and private schools. An idle mind is the devil's workshop. |
No one solves a problem by running away from it. It is understandable to lose hope and japa or teleport. However, let future generations see your efforts. |
After 60 years of independence, we have no one to blame but ourselves. We cannot claim our achievements and shift our failures to others. |
"This country is beyond Redemption" The above popular phrase is completely False, If you believe you can make 'Heaven' as a Nigerian. |
Subsequent elections will tell whether we've learnt a lesson or not. |
I attended a secondary boarding school. Do seniors bully juniors irrespective of small age difference? YES Do some juniors and some seniors bedwet? YES Can a junior feel comfortable for hours after pooing on shorts? NO Can young & adults poo on their clothes due to far/restricted/occupied toilet? YES Do some juniors wear dirty clothes or go without bathing for days? YES Will a student refuse going to dining for days without strong reasons? NO Is the accuser story completely correct? NO Is the accused story completely correct? NO Who deserves the greatest punishment? SCHOOL (due to negligence) |

Flaunting luxuries to trend/oppress (in the midst of poverty, hunger, unemployment & foreign aids) is pointless. Such Nigerian celebrities are not good role models for our youths, who are becoming desperate. |
