coogar: the government isn't stüpid....
double income household means prices were doubled - they don't want the majority to have more money they can spend or to be too broke to afford basic necessities....

so they regulate the prices to be just enough. they already have the minimum wage threshol to guide them. so that the people will not riot, they made various credit facilities accessible to all & sundry with good income.

in the west, everything is buy now, pay later and that includes cars, houses, furniture & even mobile phones. it's a revolving doors of debt. as soon as people finish completing one cycle, they are already upgrading to another one.

is that life?
I thought corporations were after increasing value for the shareholders' investment, wouldn't such end be attained if everyone spent freely?! For all it worths, you appear to be a nutcase, so I will keep a healthy distance from you.

Nonso23: and i ask again what law doesn't grant both genders equal rights?
What else are feminists fighting forhuh
In your last few posts, you yourself said women were not equal to men.

@coogar

If taxes are high, wouldn't that make families spend less of their income since most of it has been taxed away. Hence few money chasing plenty goods and zero hyperinflation?!
Family › Re: Adichie’s Feminism: Vacuums And Fallacies By A. Gonzaga by Kay17: 7:02pm On Aug 02, 2014
coogar: that will apply to skilled single women.....not the skilled married women. you think the government will not tax at a higher rate if both couples are being paid say £150k per annum? why do you think they got women out in the first place?
That wasn't your argument, rather you said the employment of more women causes hyperinflation.

And even if the taxes are high, the available household income will invariably become higher. Feminism seeks to fight mentalities like yours.
Family › Re: Adichie’s Feminism: Vacuums And Fallacies By A. Gonzaga by Kay17: 6:52pm On Aug 02, 2014
If skilled women join the labour force, the result is more goods and services than before, which their wages can eventually chase. Hence there is a balance.

coogar: you are a consummate retärd
double income households are taxed more - which is the reason the system got women out in the first place to work as capitalist slaves.

pick a landphone & call your parents - they will tell you how it was easy for an ordinary bank clerk with a full housewife to cater for his family without hassles.

women joining the bandwagon en masse caused hyper-inflation & now 2 people working are having to live hand to mouth.

so much for your idiotic macroeconomics....

So you still want a housewife? And you believe feminism is destroying your dreams? And when you die prematurely into your marriage, who do you desire to take care of your penniless housewife of a widow? The catholic church?

Nonso23: Pray tell me what makes an amateur take on a heavyweight champion?
Is that equality.
Heavyweight vs heavy weight sounds equal to me.
But feminist say men and women are equal.
Then pitch champions of both gender against each other already.
1. Imagine George Foreman v. Joe Frazier, George won because he was physically superior to Joe Frazier, he was not equal to Joe Frazier in terms of physical strength. BUT they are equal on the basis of human rights and as human beings! They are equal in the eye of the law. AND that's the big picture!

Nonso23: is a person with asthma, emaciated fit to be in a boxing ring ? No.
Is a female boxer fit to be in a boxing ring ? Yes.
Is it the same game?
Yes.
Then by all means she should endure the blows that follow. That's equality.
Fairness is knowing she'll probably not be able to survive it and pairing her with her type.

Once again another DOA analogy.
You are missing the big picture. To make you feel better, substitute emaciated asthmatic boxer with boxer with poor pugilist skills.

Nonso23: A lot. If i cage the best female boxer with the best male boxer. That's equal treatment.
She'll get pounded to a pulp. They aren't equal. Get it now.
But if I'm to treat the female boxer equally, I shouldn't put her in the same ring?

Let's try what a different scenario. An emaciated asthmatic boxer with the healthiest brutal boxer (both males), of course the healthy boxer will win, does that mean the healthy boxer is not equal to the emaciated boxer as a human being and a legal person?! No!

The problem was, you did not know that the issue at hand is about rights. All humans are equal in rights they have. And some humans are physically inferior to others yet legally and morally equal. Please spot such differences next time.
Family › Re: Adichie’s Feminism: Vacuums And Fallacies By A. Gonzaga by Kay17: 4:31pm On Aug 02, 2014
Thank God for this. You believe women should be afforded same rights, choices and opportunities as men. Equality in its brightest glory. So where does the woman serving below the man come in?

TV01: Should women be afforded the same rights,
opportunities and choices as men? Certainly, I don't believe anyone seriously contests that. Or believes anything to the contrary is discriminatory, unfair and plain wrong.

Does that make me a feminist? Or make me appreciate a need for feminism? No. Absolutely not. I'm a Christian, and two thousand years ago when wives where still considered their husbands chattel in most societies, the gospel brought emancipation and equality for women.

"All equal in Christ" it proclaims - equal in value, equal in worth. "Husbands love your wives" it exhorted. Radical, revolutionary and even today beyond the comprehension and grasp of of many.

But the Bible is didactic regards the innate differences, unique gifts, biological imperatives and complimentarity which, if ordered properly leads to human flourishing. Feminism in it's insistence that men and women should be treated the same misses most of this, and can only lead to fractured societies if given it's head. This is already evidenced in nations where feminism has taken root.

It's instructive that the even the chieftest of our feminists on NL made sure they married/partnered with men of higher status and are happy to submit to them. That is a biological imperative that is undeniable - women are loathe to mate with males of equal or lesser status. On that basis alone, it's utterly absurd to think that women really want "equality as in sameness".

The feigned quest for parity in promiscuity and the right to kill the unborn as a matter of convenience is just straining, as well as nonsensical at best and pure wickedness if truth be told.

Feminism today is not about equal rights and it wasn't feminism that kicked off the struggle for, or delivered those rights in the first place. Christianity did cool.

I've touched on what I refer to as "the deal" before. Men and women come together to create families. This is best done with the understanding of the biological imperatives and uniqueness that makes us a complimentary whole, and leads to strong families and flourishing societies.

So, whilst I'm all for equal choice, rights and opportunity (not that I necessarily believe that "equality" in and of itself means the best for society - but I wouldn't want to force my perception), if anyone can show how these and the push for free sexual expression and unilateral reproductive rights for women, along with "sameness", enhance "the deal",, I'll convert to feminism - the radical kind sef grin!

Nonso23: nope.
No two different things can be equal.
I used 'inferior' in her context.
Nope again.
We argue that the need for feminism is redundant because judging from all angles their original goals have being achieved. Equal to men? Not!
So you say neither inferior nor superior doesn't necessarily mean equality? Because ordinarily equality is understood as a level playground. So how do you resolve the conflict?

Yet you know that the goals of feminism is to create equality between the sexes and you have already said that the sexes are not equal but different and yet neither inferior nor superior to one another (puzzling). Doesn't it seem that the goals of feminism haven't been reached since women are not still equal to men.

No sensible man believes women are inferior. We believe they are different and therefore aren't and shouldn't be subjected to the same laws and expectations as men. DIFFERENT NOT EQUAL.
Let's make sense out of the knot you have weaved here. Equality obvious means neither inferior nor superior. Now, since women are not neither inferior nor superior to men, isn't the natural/logical result that they are equal and yet different from men?!

If you paid attention to the contributions in this thread by the anti feminists, you would have discovered that most of them argue that feminism's goals are redundant since women are equal to men already. Do you agree to that?

1. Yes although men do not get pregnancy, yet they have full control and autonomy over their bodies because privacy is the enjoyment against state interference over the use of one's body (for example). So same ought to be applied to women. The state shouldn't decide when and how a woman should be pregnant or not be pregnant. So the governing premise: I do whatever I want with my body.

2. If you bother to go through the marriage laws, you'd find the idea that a marriage is a union and the husband is the CEO. In other words, the woman's identity submerges with the man's. It is hardly a partnership which is a better model.

3. When von Bismarck was drawing up labour laws in Germany, he said the concerns of the workman form the parameters. The workman is worried about whether he would always find work and whether he would always be healthy to work and eventually after his working years are over, his helpless state.

In other words, the peculiarities of the woman worker and her grievances ought to dictate the labour laws obtainable. In addition to insurance, the employer ought to oblige the woman worker with nurseries, flexible work periods, childcare, maternity leaves etc.

4. Check your constitution.

5. Good. Note that free speech is not limited to "speaking" rather widely covers all expressions. However, the Nigerian constitution imposes a limitation on that right (justifiable at times), an ethical limitation. Expressions, acts which are considered ethically inappropriate for women automatically become illegal for women.
And such considerations are determined by how the society sees the woman.

6. The Nigerian constitution is written in such a manner, that women seem to have been forgotten. Also, man can confer his foreign wife a nigerian citizenship but not a woman.
MrAnony1: Remember that I asked you to name one right that men have that women don't. Now let us review your answers

Men do not have the right to abortion either. You may have to explain what you mean by "full privacy rights" and how it is equivalent to abortion

This is not a right. In some marriages, the woman is more prominent and the man's identity "dissolves" in the marriage. No woman is denied the right to speak for the union.

Name one of these laws that are tailored to the needs of men and detrimental to women.

In Nigeria, education is not a right, it is a privilege. Many male children do not get an education either

Really? Please where in the Nigerian law are women denied their right to free speech? And the typical post colonial idea of a man is a breadwinner. What do the roles of housekeeper or breadwinner have to do with the right to free speech?

Please come back with better instances. Your first expedition was unsuccessful.

Joshthefirst: of course the bible is validated supernaturally. But you dismiss its validation every time. Whichever way it is, you'd still doubt. No one can force a man to acknowledge the truth before him. He must do that himself.
But it is not directly from God.
Christianity Etc › Re: Problems With Biblical Inerrancy by Kay17: 11:29pm On Aug 01, 2014
Joshthefirst: an external source would have to be confirmed by another and another. An endless and foolish cycle.

The bible is a spiritual book written to a specific people of which you are not a part.

Only when you respond to the message will you be able to appreciate and realize the truth the written word provides.
True.

However God is the sole validator. His validation would be direct. Because the trust you place on the Bible, can be placed on any other holy book.

Secondly, you are for the removal of barriers and boundaries? Thank God you didn't create the world, we would have all been fishes. Lol. Do you have a house? A car? Clothes? Anything that is at all restrictive, even at all? I don't know how barriers and bounds are necessarily things to remove. How do you know them to be so?

Why do you assume that abortion is a good and a healthy thing for women? What's wrong with its being illegal?
1. The lack of suffrage, lack of property rights; just to mention a few.

2. By that I meant removing barriers such as I mentioned in 1.

3. It is a measure of respect to women, to reserve the autonomy over their bodies to them.

ihedinobi2: What exactly does history say about the 19th century? Does it say anything about centuries that preceded that?

I put it to you that you are wholly and entirely wrong that chivalry is just about courtship. Chivalry is the correct relationship between man and woman, between the strong and the weak. It is always about using one's strength to uphold a weaker person. It is what is expected of a man with a woman, whether he is courting her or living with her as her husband.
So you acknowledge women have been weaker, why don't you advocate strength. What's beautiful about being weak and helpless?

1. A right to abortion. Men are allowed full privacy rights, while women are denied the right to abort.

2. A woman lacks a corporate status in a marriage. The man assumed to speak for the union. Her identity dissolves in the marriage.

3. Labour laws in Nigeria are tailored to the needs of men. The legal obligations an employer has to the male employee do not exactly match those required for a woman.

4. The child girl is not fully guaranteed a right to education. Cultural regimes which indulge in early/child marriage are tolerated.

5. The woman doesn't have the right to free speech as a man. Her right is limited to cultural/moral/public considerations. And the typical post colonial African idea of a woman, is a housekeeper.

crackhaus: You're missing it again. What requisite rights do men have that women don't?
What economic rights?

The issue of maltreatment and poverty of widows is not an issue of rights but one of culture.
This is resolved at the grassroots level between the families involved and/or the community.
In fact, some women have been known to stubbornly refuse any traditional rites that diminish self worth after they loose their husbands...I know at least two.
They refused to be locked in the room, or sleep by the coffin holding the husband's corpse...and nothing happened to them. They stood their ground and they were left alone.

Did you hear that Akwa-ibom state government made it a criminal offence should any woman be forced into harsh and unfair treatment by in-laws at the demise of her husband?

As far as rights go, it already covers women in Nigeria. There are no rights enjoyed by men and restricted from women in Nigeria.
There is very little you understand about rights (judging from your post).

1. Economic rights such as equal employment and promotion, proper participation in the public space and other related rights empower women. Poverty is a prominent risk amongst widows, because they are deprived of careers, assets and properties AnD a voice in the public square. There wouldn't be need for charities like family and community AS is found in Western societies where the woman is fully independent economically.

2. Because women are seen as objects without humanity and rights, they can be beaten, locked, ra.ped and what so ever. If they had rights to human dignity, that wouldn't happen, such Igbo cultural norms would die out.

3. The fact the government criminalises an act does not mean the women are empowered with a resulting right. The right to prosecute is with the state. Don't confuse yourself.

4. I will pick out rights men enjoy that women don't have.

princefunmi: Obviously you know nothing about feminism.

I suggest you educate yourself on the tenets of feminism. You obviously are having a hard time coming to grips with play on words. Gender, Sex what is the sole difference? There really isn't any difference unless of-course you begin to lean towards the depraved western mentality that permits such "genders" as bisexual and the likes. A depraved western society of which feminism is a cultural thing. Let us not forget what culture is my friend - the way of life of a people. If feminism is the way of life of the so-called western world, why then should we adopt a foreign way of life simply because it has superficial benefits to a certain gender who are supposedly downtrodden and unequal to a certain "superior" gender. I think advocates of feminism suffer deeply from an inferiority complex that quite frankly I find hard to explain. The harsh reality is that the coefficients of the supposed gender inequality saga is perpetrated mostly by those of the same gender that happens to be victims. So what then exactly are we saying when the women are their own worst enemies.

Like I have said before, advocating for the rights of women within the context of the African setting is laudable. Saying that male and female gender must be treated as equals is highly immoral. Make no mistakes, no sex is superior to the other. The normal natural setting is that both sexes compliment each other.
What is gender to you? How do you define gender?
Family › Re: Adichie’s Feminism: Vacuums And Fallacies By A. Gonzaga by Kay17: 1:39pm On Aug 01, 2014
crackhaus: You see bro, I wasn't even supposed to provide that list but ever since I joined in this feminism gist on NL a long while ago, I have always asked them (feminists) to state exactly what their fight is about in regards to Nigeria...and every time I asked, they never mentioned any of those things I pointed out.
The NL/internet feminists only list things that are either about competition with the male gender or about economic inequality which in reality doesn't even exist in Nigeria.

This is one of the problems with Africans and Nigerians in particular, we copy things from the west and try to effect it directly without remembering that Africa is an entirely different society with different set of rules. This can be likened to a situation where a student during an exam copies answers from another student and replicates every single word, symbol, sentence, and punctuation...yet expects the examiner to not notice.
It's just stoopid, this is why I call African feminists jokers.

Copying or adopting western styled feminism into Africa is not even the crime, it's copying it and applying it hook, line, and sinker.
Not everyone is a genius, not everyone is authentic..the least these feminists can do is to copy and then readapt or reshape western feminism into what suits our society...meaning dealing with the real problems, this is what a smart person will do.

All that talk of equality in marriage, equality in work and pay grade, equality in acquiring property, equality in 'promiscuity', etc are just excuses competitive women use in the name of equality. It's not as if the divide in all these spheres of equality even exist or if they do, are peripheral.

The feminism in Nigeria should be about important things that affect the traditional Nigerian society, some of which I already highlighted in them examples earlier...not about some inexistent inequality in economic, marriage, or the social setting.
Same old assumptions.

1. The West is bad and evil

2. Feminists know nothing.

3. There is no discrimination against the female sex.

No 3 is the only engaging assumption. The other two are just plain hopeless. More like a boko haram committee meeting.
